Chapter 19

Rose woke up to find a note lying on the side table. She picked it up and noticed it had written across it, "Rosie."

She groaned and sat up in bed. She was wearing a t-shirt and pair of knickers that she had put on after Danny had taken a shower with her last night. She smiled as she thought back to the pair of them, standing under the hot water, snogging one another.

Her heart leaped into her chest as she thought back to Danny bringing her back into her bedroom after the shower, and making love to her again.

They had fallen asleep in one another's arms. Lying there, she had never felt so loved. So safe.

She opened the note and smiled when she found it was only a phone number. Taking her phone from the side table, she dialed. Her heart began to pound loudly as Danny answered with his deep voice. "Well, I must have worn you out then, huh? Or do you always sleep until lunch?"

She giggled and slid down in the sheets. "It's been a problem lately."

"Well, as long as it keeps your herpes from flaring up-"

"I do not have herpes!" She laughed. "Danny, you are just…."

She could hear his smile, "Look, I'm sorry I had to leave before you woke up, but I had some business to take care of."

"Business?"

"Yeah." He said, "And I'm still working on it. But, I wanted to see if you are available for dinner?"

"Well." She closed her eyes and thought about what would have to happen for her to meet him for dinner.

"I've already talked to Lewis. He has to go to Stark Tower this evening to meet with Pepper. I offered to keep you company, so he doesn't even think it's a date. I mean, if you don't want it to be a date…."

She smiled, "It can be a date."

"Yeah?" He asked.

She giggled. "Yeah."

"Perfect. I've handled everything. A secret date. Dinner. Tonight. And I've already picked out what you should wear."

"Wot?"

"Wot?" He mocked her. "I love your accent, Rosie."

"Do not call me Rosie."

She could see his smile through his words, "Ah, face it. You're warming up to it."

Rose looked over to her closet. A simple black dress hung on the door. "This dress is what you've picked out?"

"Yes. So, you can't tell me that you don't have anything to wear. I'll see you this evening."

She was beaming, "Alright, Danny."

He couldn't help himself. "You sound like you are smiling. Are you?"

She giggled, "Maybe."

"It looks good on you, Rosie."

"Thanks."

She ended the call and dropped the phone on the bed. She grabbed a pillow, buried her face into it, and screamed as loud as she could.

Mickey nodded as he listened to someone on the phone. He stood in front of the windows of the large sitting room, watching the Zeppelins fly above the city.

Rose walked in and kissed his cheek, "Good morning."

He turned in time to see her sit down on the sofa and sip her tea. Her and Mickey's causal dress showed that they had managed to make themselves at home during their time in New York. She wore her hair up in a messy bun on the back of her head.

"Yeah, I'll give it a think and get back to you. Yeah, cheers." He ended the call. "What are you in such a good mood about?"

She smiled over her cup. "No reason."

"Yeah, right. I'm not buying it." He sat down next to her. "What's going on?"

She laughed and sat down her cup.

Lewis appeared in the doorway, "Oh hey. You're awake."

She covered her mouth, "Yes. Sorry."

Lewis smiled, "What's the joke?"

"I don't know." Mickey shrugged his shoulders, "She's just….silly for some reason."

Lewis planted his feet and crossed his arms. "Silly, huh?"

Mickey laughed, "Yeah. She's finally cracked."

Lewis bit his lip as she considered, "You know, Danny asked me to see if you wanted to ride over to the Stark building tonight. He thought you two could have dinner. But, I think I missed something."

Mickey's eyes light up in realization, "You're going on a date with Danny?!"

She laughed, "Maybe."

Lewis and Mickey's reactions couldn't have been more opposite. Thankfully, Mickey had wrapped his arms around Rose in celebration and neither of them saw Lewis dramatically look at the ceiling and swear.

Lewis had managed to recover by the time that they stopped celebrating. He continued to stand in the doorway with his arms crossed.

Mickey laughed, "That's great! Danny is such a great guy! Isn't he, Lewis?"

"He's such a pain in the ass." Rose said in a matter of factly way.

Lewis said, "Oh, so…it's not a date?"

Rose smiled and Mickey answered for her. "Of course it's a date, Lewis! Rose is a free agent, why shouldn't she go out? I mean, it's with Danny!"

Lewis couldn't form words, "Yeah….but….ummm….."

Rose and Mickey sat staring at Lewis.

Lewis finally shook his head. "Umm." He managed and then walked out of the room.

Rose laughed at his reaction.

"Ah, don't worry about him." Mickey smiled. "So, you and Danny. Huh?"

"He absolutely drives me mental."

"And this is a good thing?"

She thought for a moment, "Yeah."

He laughed, "Well, you and Danny….I think it's brilliant. Maybe that's just your type. Men who drive you mental."

She laughed, "I suppose so."

He knew she had begun to think about The Doctor.

Mickey took her hand. "Danny isn't like him. Not at all."

"I just…."

"What?"

She found his eyes and smiled, "I haven't thought about him since last night. And that was the first time. Just now."

He smiled, "See? Danny is already helping."

"Mickey. Maybe this isn't a good idea at all…."

"Oh, Woah." Mickey insisted and wrapped his arm around her shoulder. "This is a great idea! Rose. You need to start living again. You've been in survival mode since you arrived. This is the happiest I've seen you since even before oh…what's his name. Maybe happier than you were with me."

Rose smiled at Mickey.

"Danny's really been through a lot. Just like you."

"Does he know…I mean…about me?"

"Being from another Dimension? No. That's classified through Torchwood. He doesn't know anything."

"What happened to him?"

He looked surprised, "He hasn't told you?"

"No. And when I asked about it, he told me to Google it."

Mickey laughed, "Boy, he really doesn't know you does he?"

"Why would anyone do that to anybody? Google them. Okay, well you have a gym membership and you have been in some movies. Big deal."

He nodded. "Yeah, I suppose he wouldn't talk about it. But, you know what? He needs to. Just like you need to talk about stuff."

She sighed. "Mickey…"

"I know you think it's shit, but seriously. He'll understand."

She closed her eyes tightly, "I like him."

Mickey smiled, "What's not to like?"

"Getting hurt again."

He nodded, leaned in, and embraced her.
