Sophie and Katherine were brushing Prince's mane. Jack Jr. was watching as they brushed the horse. Jack Jr. turned around to see what his mother and Nathan were up to.

"Where did they go?" Jack Jr. asked

Katherine looked away from the horse. "I didn't see them go. I was enjoying brushing Prince"

Jack Jr. ran around the stable. In the distance he saw his mother and Nathan writing on Sargent Jr. together. Jack Jr. smiled and walked back to Sophie and Katherine.

"Did you find them?" Katherine asked

"Yes. I think it will be just the three of us riding today." Jack Jr. answered

Seeing the look on Jack Jr.'s face, Katherine understood that Elizabeth and Nathan were having some private time.

"I don't think this horse will be able to fit all three of us" Jack Jr. said

"That's true" Katherine looked around the ranch and saw two horses in the distance. She walked over to them. She made a sound for the horses to come over and one of them did. She took that horse and saddled it up. With one try, she was mounted the horse.

"You are a natural with horses" Jack Jr. said to Katherine

"My family had horses growing up, so it is second nature for me." Katherine said

Jack Jr. put Sophie on Prince. Not wanting to embarrass himself again, he visualized getting on the horse. After a minute, he started mounting on the horse and was able to get on the horse in one try.

"Very good!" Katherine said excitedly.

"I had a good teacher" Jack Jr. said to Katherine. Katherine blushed

"Woah boy" Jack Jr. said to to Prince as he started moving.

Katherine giggled. Jack Jr. smiled.

"Let's go out that way." Jack Jr. pointed toward a hill.

They made their way toward the hill. Sophie was holding onto the saddle tight. Jack Jr. was pointing out things to Sophie as they were riding.

Once they got over the hill, there was a big meadow of flowers. They were all kind of flowers and they were all blooming. Sophie wanted to go play in the fields so they stopped. Katherine dismounted her horse first and helped Sophie get down. Jack Jr. dismounted his horse.

"This is place is beautiful. Look at all those flowers." Katherine said

"It is beautiful" Jack Jr. said as he was looking at Katherine. Katherine was wearing overalls and her hair was up. She could have been wearing a potato sack and she would have been beautiful. Suddenly, Jack Jr. snapped out of his daze. She is a married woman and a friend. He can't look at her any different. Jack Jr. tried to rationalize his feelings. He was just admiring her beauty. I'm sure many men looked at Maggie for her beauty and that was it.

Jack Jr. saw two stumps and sat on one of them. Katherine sat on the other one.

"You said you grew up with horses?" Jack Jr. asked Katherine.

"Yes. My father was a blacksmith. We didn't have a farm, but we did have a lot of space for horses. I had a horse growing up. Her name was Ivy. She was the best horse. We did everything together. I miss her a lot. She had the same coloring as Prince but with brown mane." Katherine answered

"That's sweet. After I came here for a summer, I wanted to bring Sargent home. My mother was for the idea but my stepfather said that I would lose interest in horses when I hit a certain age, so that was the end of the discussion. When we build our farm, Sophie will get her own horse and so will I." Jack Jr. said.

"I'm sorry you didn't get to take your horse home" Katherine said

"Me too" Jack Jr. said

After a minute of silence, Jack Jr. asked Katherine a question.

"What is Andrew like?" Jack Jr. asked

Katherine's eyes lit up. "We knew each other since we were little. One day there was a couple of bullies who were bullying me. Andrew stepped in and defended me. From that point on, I liked him and grew to love him. He felt the same way. When were eighteen, we got married. We moved to Hope Valley because Andrew worked for the railroad company laying down the rails. After the railroad was built, we decided to stay in Hope Valley. We were going to start a family but felt like it was his duty to join the military and defend countries who were being bullied. We wrote letters to each other every day. One day, two men from the military came to my house and told me that Andrew was missing in action. They weren't sure if he dead or taken prisoner but all they knew was that he was missing. For a whole year, I tried to find what happened. I didn't get any help from the military. I asked the men who came back to Hope Valley if they knew but they didn't. I'm in a limbo. I just want to know if he is alive or not. I want my husband to come back home." Katherine said

There was silence between them.

"I'm sorry, I didn't mean to unload on you" Katherine said to Jack Jr.

"If you can't unload on your friends, who can you unload to? But I want to help you find Andrew. I have some connections with higher ups in the military. I'll telegram them tomorrow." Jack Jr. said

"Thank you Jack. There is still a part of me that has hope he is alive and he'll be walking through our door. It's silly." Katherine said

"Having hope is never silly" Jack Jr. said looking at Katherine in her eyes. They held their gazes until Sophie came over.

"I got you some flowers Mr. Guff" Sophie said handing them to Katherine.

Katherine broke her gaze with Jack Jr. "They're beautiful. Thank you!" Katherine said

Sophie smiled.

Jack Jr. looked at his watch.

"Oh, we better get going. I don't want to smell like a horse when I go on my date with Violet." Jack Jr. said

"Oh. You're going on a date with Violet?" Katherine asked

"We are seeing Casablanca together" Jack Jr. answered

"Oh." Katherine said with disappointment in her tone.

"Is that okay? Jack Jr. asked

"You can go out with whomever you want. Just be careful with Violet. She's my best friend but you are a nice man and she might devour you." Katherine said

"Oh. I'll be careful" Jack Jr. said. He wasn't sure what she meant that she'll try to devour me. What was Jack Jr. getting himself into?

They all rode back to the stable. Nathan and his mother were not back from wherever they went. He asked Katherine for a ride home. As they stopped in front of Rosemary's, Katherine turned to Jack Jr.

"Thank you for inviting me. It was a lovely afternoon." Katherine said

"It was lovely." Jack Jr. looked in the back and Sophie had fallen asleep. "Looks like she had a fun afternoon too" Jack Jr. said pointing to Sophie.

Katherine turned around and saw Sophie sleeping. She mouthed awe to Jack Jr.

Jack Jr. gently took Sophie out of the back seat.

Jack Jr. mouthed by to Katherine. Katherine waved back.

As Jack Jr. watched Katherine drive off, Jack Jr. stood there smiling.
