Jack Jr. couldn't believe his mother had bought him a car. She was supposed to be the one getting surprised, not him. Everyone's came over to look at the new car. He thanked everyone for their hard work. Tomorrow they would get back to work, but today was a celebration.

"Nice car" said a familiar voice. He turned around, it was Katherine.

"Thanks! Did you know about this surprise?" Jack Jr. asked

"Only until I got here today. They wanted a crowd to hide the car." Katherine answered.

"I was surprised" Jack Jr. said

"You did such a beautiful job on her house. I can't wait to see how the main house will turn out" Katherine said

"Let me give you a tour" Jack Jr. said

They both walked over to the main house. Sophie ran inside his mother's house.

"The porch is going to wrap around the house as you can see. The wood is going to be stained which will bring out the wood" Jack Jr. said. Katherine nodded along

Jack Jr. walked inside the construction site.

"I know it's not a lot right now but it is getting there. We are going to have a staircase right there when you walk in. The living room will be over there and the dining room will be huge, just like my father intended it to be. The kitchen will be just as big. I'll have a couple of the rooms on the first floor. Maybe a study." Jack Jr. pointed to all the places in the house.

"Now, take my hand and we'll go upstairs. The stairs are secure but I don't want you falling" Jack Jr. said with his hand out.

Katherine put her hand in his and when Jack Jr. felt her touch, it sent a shiver up his spine. He helped Katherine up the stairs and once they were up the stairs he showed her the 6 bedrooms upstairs and the master bedroom.

"Now, this is my favorite part" Jack Jr. said. He guided Katherine out onto a deck. The deck was off the master bedroom. You could see the whole back of the property and beyond.

"This is stunning. The whole house is stunning" Katherine said with a smile.

As Katherine looked out on the deck, the sunlight caught her in the right place. Suddenly, Jack Jr. had butterflies in his stomach. The same feeling he had for Maggie. Jack Jr. realized in that moment that he was in love with Katherine. He couldn't help it. Katherine was a sweet and warm person. He smiled all the time when he was around her. She was smart and funny. He made him laugh in a way that he hadn't laughed since Maggie. He tried not to fall in love with her. But then guilt started to set in. This was a married woman. Her husband could walk back into her life at any moment. Jack Jr. agreed to not tell anyone his feet for her. This would be his secret.

"You are looking at me like Andrew does." Katherine said

Jack Jr. snapped out of his head.

"Sorry. Just thinking about Maggie. Didn't mean to stare like that."

Katherine laughed. "Don't worry. I do that sometimes"

Katherine looked down at the ground and saw a book.

"What's this?" Katherine asked showing Jack the book.

"My sketch book. Sometimes after we are done, I come up here and sketch. I guess my father used to draw and I got his drawing abilities." Jack Jr. answered

"May I look at them" Katherine asked

Jack Jr. nodded his head. Katherine sat down on the deck and looked through the sketchbook. There were pictures of Sophie, Maggie, his mother, Sargent Jr. Katherine stopped at a sketch of herself.

"Is that me?" Katherine asked

Jack nodded his head.

"This is beautiful. Can I have this when you are done with it?"

"Sure" Jack Jr. said. He wanted to tell her that the picture didn't do her justice and that she was more beautiful than that. But he didn't. Katherine got to the end of the sketch book. It looked like Jack Jr. had started a sketch.

"Who is this?" Katherine asked

Jack Jr. laughed. "I started drawing Violet but after that horrible date, I stopped."

Katherine stood up. She laughed and handed him the sketch book.

"You know Violet can be a handful but she only acts like that to protect her heart" Katherine said

"What do you mean?" Jack Jr. asked

"She was in love once. His name was Brian. He was an American. They met while she was in New York City. He was everything that her family wasn't. He wasn't rich. He wasn't influential. He grew up in a rural town in America. And she loved him with all her heart. He was in the American Army and was shipped to France. Violet didn't hear from him. She finally contacted his family. They told her that he had died in Normandy. I think it broke her. They had planned on getting married. She moved away from her family. She picked Hope Valley because the train went through here. I don't think she'll ever give her heart like that again"

"I didn't know any of this." Jack Jr. said

"She doesn't talk about it. She opened up to me after a few glasses of wine. She asked me to forget about the story. But deep down, she is just a broken hearted"

Jack Jr. gave a sad smile.

There was silence between them.

"I'd better get going. I'm meeting some friends for dinner" Katherine said

"Right. Let me help you down the stairs" Jack Jr. said. He helped her down the stairs and led her out of the house.

"The house is beautiful." Katherine told Jack Jr.

"Thank you" Jack Jr. said

Katherine waved goodbye and he watched her leave. Jack Jr. sighed and headed into his mother's house.
