With a new year ahead, Jack Jr. decided his resolution for the year was to look to the future. He made a list. The first item on his list was to figure out what he wanted to do for a career. There were plenty of jobs in Hope Valley to choose from. He could work for the rail company or the oil company. Nathan offered to help him find something at the courthouse. None of those jobs interested in him. One night, while he was sketching, he sketched out a logo. Thornton Construction. Jack Jr. did enjoy sketching out houses and then building them and seeing them come to life. He decided to start a construction company.

His next resolution was to spend more time with his family. When spring came, Sophie and Jack Jr. went and picked out her horse. It was a beautiful black stallion. Sophie named the horse Maggie, after her mother. Jack Jr. thought it was the perfect name for the beautiful horse. Nafhan brought Sargent Jr. over to Jack Jr.'s stable. After a couple of rides, Jack Jr. was comfortable with Sargent Jr. After a few lessons with Nathan, Sophie was a pro on her horse. They took as many rides as they could.

After many years, Elizabeth and Jack Jr. started their tradition where they would put an hour aside each Saturday just to talk just like they used to do when he was younger but instead of Sunday's, it was Saturday's. Even though his mother was writing her next novel, she still took time to have an hour with him. Her novel was the third novel that takes place after the second book. The heroine moves back to the place she called home in the first book with her son and daughter. The heroine finds love once again with someone from her past. Jack Jr told her that it sounded like an excellent book. Jack Jr. was truly happy for his mother.

His final resolution was to find happiness. He didn't know what that meant to him but he knew it had something to do with Katherine. After Christmas, he and Katherine spent more time together. Jack Jr. knew that these outings were just as friends. After Katherine cancelled one of their outings, Jack Jr. saw Katherine out to lunch with Peter Waltz. He was the riches men in town. He was a pilot in the war. He was an all-around good man. But seeing Katherine with Peter made Jack Jr. jealous. Even though he had no right to be jealous, it still bugged him. But all he wanted was for Katherine to be happy. If Peter made her happy, then he was happy.

On the day of the opening of The Andrew Guff Memorial Park, the whole town was going there. Jack Jr. was impressed with how the park had turned out. There were a lot of swings and the playground was huge. A lot of slides and monkey bars. There were fountains on the end of the park for kids to play in during the summer. There was a lot of green space for families to have picnics or just to be together. At the entrance of the park was a statute of a horse and a man on top of the horse. There was a plaque that told Andrew's story and how he died a hero.

Mayor Hickam said a few words and then Katherine got up for her speech.

"I want to thank everyone who came out here today. Andrew would be grateful for everyone here. I want to thank the anonymous donor who made this park possible. Andrew once told me that he was worried about not being remembered once he was gone. Well Andrew, you don't have to worry now, we will always remember you" Katherine said

The crown applauded and Katherine went over to cut the ribbon. After she cut the ribbon, everyone applauded. For the next few hours, everyone enjoyed the park. Sophie played on the swings and playground. By the time was setting, she could barely keep her eyes opened. Jack Jr. wanted to stay a little longer at the park. Nathan and Elizabeth offered to take Sophie home. Jack Jr. was the only one at the park as it was setting. Jack Jr. looked at the park and smiled. Jack Jr. looked over at the swings and walked over to a swing. He started to swing a little. He heard someone coming up from behind him. It was Katherine. She took the swing next to him.

"I see that we have the same idea." Katherine teased

Jack Jr. laughed. "Sometimes, you just need a swing."

Katherine laughed. There was a few moment of silence between them.

"This is a nice park you built Jack." Katherine said

Jack Jr. looked at her shocked. "How do you know it's me? Maybe it was Peter"

"You're the only I ever told about Andrew's dream of the park" Katherine said

"Oh." Jack Jr. played with his hair. "I guess it was me. I just thought Andrew deserved to have his dream come to life."

Katherine nodded. She wiped tears from her eyes.

"I wouldn't have told Peter about Andrew's dream." Katherine said

"Why not" Jack Jr. asked

"Because I'm not in love with him" Katherine said

Jack Jr.'s heart skipped a beat when he heard that.

"I'm sorry to hear that. I'm sure you'll find a love one day" Jack Jr. said

"I already found him" Katherine said looking at Jack Jr.

Jack Jr. didn't say anything.

"This might sound strange. But I have loved you for a while. I knew it was wrong while Andrew might still have been alive. But I knew in my heart that he wasn't coming home. Last night, I had a dream. Andrew came to me. He told me that you saved his life once before and that you are a good man. He told me that it was okay I had fallen in love with you. And that feeling I had about him not coming home was him trying to reach me to tell me. He told me to give my heart to you because we belong together." Katherine said

Jack Jr. was shocked but smiled "Katherine, I have loved you for a long time. Before everything that happened. I love you Katherine." Jack Jr. said

Jack Jr. reached over and pulled Katherine's swing over. He kissed her softly. Katherine smiled after they kissed. Jack Jr. stood up and held Katherine's hand. She stood up to. They started to kiss again, this time with passion. The kiss was pure with no regrets or holding back.
