Jack Jr. was looking in his mirror tying his tie. He was nervous even though he had done this before.
Nathan came into the room.
"Are you almost ready? There getting ready to start" Nathan said
"I can't get my tie perfect" Jack Jr. said
"Let me see" Nathan said as he tied Jack Jr.'s tie.
"There. Perfect" Nathan said slapping him on his shoulder. "Don't worry, it's like riding a horse. I'll see you out there." Nathan said
Jack Jr. looked in the mirror. It had been a year since Katherine and Jack Jr. had declared their love for each other. For the first couple months of their relationship, they took it slow. Katherine wanted to make sure she had grieved for Andrew. While she had grieved him for many years before, she wanted to make certain her feelings for Jack Jr. were genuine. After realizing her feelings were genuine, she told Jack Jr. she was ready to move forward. Jack Jr. couldn't think of anything better than to marry Katherine. He proposed and planned a wedding in less than two months. Sophie was excited to have a mother again.
There was a knock on the door.
"Jack, it's me, your mother" Elizabeth said
"Come in" Jack Jr. said
Jack Jr. turned around when his mother closed the door.
"How do I look?" Jack Jr. asked
"You look so handsome and that green tie brings out your eyes. You look so much like your father" Elizabeth answered
"Thank you" Jack Jr. said proudly.
"Now I know it's the bride who is supposed to have something old but I thought you might like this." Elizabeth said holding up a medal
"What is it?" Jack Jr. asked
"It was a medal that your father was awarded. I remember when he received this award, he was so proud of it. I think he would want you to wear it today." Elizabeth said as she pinned the medal on his jacket.
"There." Elizabeth said
"Thank you. And are you sure you are okay with watching Sophie while Katherine and I go to New York on our honeymoon? I don't want to take you away from your book tour" Jack Jr. asked
"I gave them a list of places I wanted to do the book tour and when. It's fine. My book is a bestseller\, they kind of have to listen to me. You two enjoy yourself" Elizabeth said
Jack Jr. smiled "Okay. We will"
"Now, I think it is time" Elizabeth said
Jack Jr. took in a breath of air and nodded.
Jack Jr. and Elizabeth walked out of Jack's house into the backyard. All their guests have arrived. And at the end of the aisle, Katherine and Jack Jr. were to be married under a gazebo which Nathan built as a wedding gift.
As he walked down the aisle with his mother He smiled and nodded at his guests. Sophie waved at him. Next to Sophie was Maggie. She was smiling at him and mouthed I love you. When they passed by, Maggie was gone. He led his mother to her seat. He stood up on the gazebo. He smiled at Nathan who was his best man. Out in the distance, he saw his father in the field. Jack Sr. tipped his hat at Jack Jr. When Jack Jr. looked away, Jack Sr. disappeared. Finally, the organ played the bridal song. Katherine was at the end of the aisle. Jack Jr.'s heart skipped. She was beautiful. Jack Jr.'s eyes started to tear up. As Katherine was walking down the aisle, he saw Andrew standing in the back. He smiled and nodded his head at Jack Jr. When Jack Jr. looked at Katherine, Andrew disappeared. When Katherine was by the gazebo, her father shook Jack Jr.'s hand and let Katherine go. Katherine and Jack Jr. exchanged vows and they were ready to become one.
