So no one told you life was gonna be this way?
In a dimly lit hotel room in Metropolis, on top of a generic white duvet, sat Garfield Dayton. A half eaten burger and fries were on the night stand and a bottle of soda sat beside him. The T.V played a familiar tune as Friends came on. He blinked as he zoned in.
"I must have zoned out hard and auto piloted back here... and ordered room service?" That was nothing new. Stressful days combined with a meta human brain lead to memory loss. "Yesterday was ... strange... wonder if Dick's messaged?"
He fumbled about and found his phone on the charging dock. Behind the shattered screen was a generic photo of the sunrise, and as he unlocked it, up came a pink back ground and a mass of social media apps. "I need to apologise..." He opened up Calotype and saw he had already uploaded a photo of a bath with the caption 'I know today was a total let down, but it doesn't have to end badly! Find the joy in the small things and throw yourself at each day! Having a well needed bath, could do with some candles. See you tomorrow!'
"OK..." He then opened up his text messages and found a note from 'Dicky bird'. 'Tomorrow, 9.00, breakfast, Morning Groove' "He's always so... to the point... Wait, nine? Is it tomorrow already? Nope, just... six... at night..."
Garfield had developed the habit of saying everything out loud to separate it from the things going on in his brain. It felt cluttered in there, but at the same time no information seemed to stick. There were these blank areas where he zoned out, caused by his shapeshifting powers. A brain that is forced to grow and shrink and change is bound to loose some information here and there.
Medication had become a big part of Gar's life. Pills to help his powers, pills to help his mood, pills to help his body, pills to help his illness...So many little, useful tablets that kept him ticking correctly. Plus, if it's a pill, it isn't an injection.
He pulled the organiser out if his jacket pocket and shook Sundays tablets into his palm. They came in useful colours. Green, pink, blue, red, yellow, but mostly white. It's easier to count them when they don't all look the same.
The soda came in useful as he took a swig and dropped the first few pills into his mouth, before swallowing. Three swigs later and he was done, ready to watch Friends and eat the rest of his dinner before bed.
Setting: An interview stage with two, red tub chairs facing each other on a wooden floor. The audience is obscured by the spot lights. "I'll be there for you" plays in the back ground.
*Gar walks onto the stage and can swear he saw someone leave. Probably just the sound guy. He sits in his chair thinking about nothing and everything.*
Authors note: I know it's all in little chapters, sorry. I write a bit then get excited so want to post it. If you've been paying attention you should have noticed a few important thing by now. I don't just writ things in for the heck of it, it all has it's reason for being in the story, no matter how small it might seem now. There is also an Easter egg! Keep your eyes open for those. It's also an important clue. Thank you for reading.
