Ana-

That's how the letter starts. She knows immediately it's from Sirius. She also knows it can't be good. Sirius always starts his letters with My favourite cousin.

Mother did it.

She's been expecting this letter. Every time her owl comes with a letter, she's afraid of opening it, afraid of reading the words that'll seal her fate forever. And now that it's here… She thinks it's particularly cruel of them to make Sirius do it. He doesn't deserve to be the bringer of bad news.

They've burnt you off the tapestry. You are no longer a Black.

Six little words, in blue ink, written in a hurry and in the messy scrawl of an eleven-year-old boy. She's shocked how just six words can break her heart. Just one sentence and that's it. The end of a family, of a sisterhood. She knows Cissy and Bella won't back her up, not like they used to.

Hope you're okay, and I can't wait to see you during the holidays, Sirius continues.

It's sweet of her cousin to say that, but she doesn't think the others will let him see her. She's glad he's still by her side, that little Gryffindor cousin of hers, another rebel in the family.

Love you and see you soon!

"What's wrong?" Ted asks as she puts the letter down, carefully folding it back in thirds and putting it back in it's envelope.

"Nothing," she says with a smile.

"You sure?"

"I'll cry about it later," she assures him and takes his hand.

She's no longer a Black, that's true, but she supposes it's been a long time since she stopped being a part of the family. She wonders if she's ever really been a Black, the way the others would like it.

But it doesn't matter now. She's got a new family, a new tapestry to start. Just Ted, her and Sirius. And that'll be enough for now.
