Title: come with me (the wrackspurts will leave)

Summary: How Ginny and Luna became friends.

WC: 359

Genre: Friendship

Characters: Ginny W., Luna L.

"What're you doing?"

Ginny's head whips up, slamming the diary shut and hugging it close to her chest. She blushes furiously. "Nothing," she replies.

The girl in front of her blinks twice. She's got long blond hair, the kind of hair Ginny's always wanted. But she's also got really weird earrings. Carrots? Turnips? "Are you writing in a diary?"

Ginny blushes even harder but doesn't say anything.

"You can tell me," the girl says, as she props herself on the window-ledge, next to Ginny. "I won't tell anyone."

"Yes, it's my diary," Ginny finally admits.

"Cool." She nods. "I've also got one. They help keep the wrackspurts away."

"Wrackspurts?" Ginny asks. She's never heard the word, but she doesn't think it's a made-up word. The girl – a Ravenclaw, according to her tie – seems very serious.

"Yes, they're little creatures that come when you're sad or angry. They make your mind go fuzzy," she explains, swinging her legs to and fro.

"Oh." Ginny probably has a lot of wrackspurts then. She's very angry and sad at the moment. Tom says it's normal, and that she must use those feelings, like a weapon. Well, that's what he wants. She's not entirely sure it's a good idea.

"But I don't know if it's working very well," the girl tells her, "You seem to have got a lot of wrackspurts."

"Really?" Ginny asks, worried.

"Don't worry. Just think happy thoughts, they'll go away," she assures her.

Ginny frowns. She's not sure Tom would like that. But either way, this girl has made her feel a little better. It's nice to have someone to talk to, other than Tom.

"I'm Luna Lovegood, by the way," the girl – Luna – says.

"Ginny Weasely," Ginny replies.

"Want to have dinner with me?"

Ginny doesn't know if Ravenclaws and Gryffindors can have dinner together, but she figures it's worth trying. "Okay."

"Great!" Luna smiles so brightly it hurts. "Let's go then!"

The two girls leap of the window-ledge and make their way towards the Great Hall, chatting. Ginny's really glad someone has talked to her. She doesn't even realise she left Tom on the window-ledge till much later.
