A/N: I think this is my new head-canon
Title: sword of gryffindor
Summary: Rowena confronts Godric about his sword.
WC: 308
Genre: Friendship (ish?)
Characters: Godric G., Rowena R.
Warnings: might just unintentionally be a tad Godric bashy...
"You should really give back that sword, Godric," Rowena says.
"Nonsense. It's mine now," he replies, and continues to twirl it around in his hands, as if it were simply a baton and not an exquisite goblin-made work of silver.
"We both know that's a lie," Rowena warns.
"Rowena, if you're saying all this because you're godfather's a goblin-" Godric starts but she quickly cuts him off.
"If you think," Rowena says darkly, stopping the sword from twirling in mid-air with a powerful non-verbal spell, "that this is because of familial attachment-"
"Well-"
She glares at him and he shuts up. He can tell she's being serious now, that she won't tolerate any of his usual messing around. "Then you are far more stupid than I thought you were," she finishes.
"But-"
"Words has it," she continues, "that the goblins tried to steal it from you."
"I didn't say anything!" Godric tries to defend himself.
"But we both know that's a lie. You're the one who stole it from them." Rowena looks right into his eyes, and usual, he can't lie to her. She's already reading deep into his soul.
"My- my name is engraved."
"Crudely," she points out, "Everyone can tell it's not a goblin who did that."
"Rowena-"
"You had better give it back, stop spreading or someone will have to pay a price," she tells him, forebodingly, "Maybe not you, but one of your precious Gryffindors."
And with those ominous words, she leaves the room, robes swishing behind her. The sword that was immobile in his hands suddenly regains its normal weight after she lifts the levitating spell. Godric barely catches it before it clatters to the ground.
Whatever, he thinks to himself, she's still bitter because Salazar left. No one apart from Rowena, himself and those spiteful goblins will ever know the truth anyway.
