"Susan, what are you doing?"

Susan is startled by Hannah's voice, not expecting to see her for another hour or two. She always gets up extra early to do this, but her newly made best-friend is onto her. Susan's claimed she gets up early to practice her Charms, but she knows Hannah doesn't really believe that, especially because Susan keeps getting better grades than her.

"Nothing," Susan says quickly, struggling to hide all of her things.

Hannah opens the door to the bathroom a little wider. "What's going on, are you okay?"

"It's fine, it's fine," Susan quickly tells her, "Could you just leave me alone?"

From the corner of her eye, she can see Hannah's disappointed face, and Susan immediately feels guilty for pushing her friend away. It's the middle of October, of their first year at Hogwarts. The two girls have bee firm friends from day one, and yet, Susan can't seem to bring herself to tell her the truth.

"Oh, alright, then," she says, sadness seeping into her voice.

Susan hesitates for a moment, struggling but calls her back anyway. "No, wait, Hannah! I'm sorry."

The other girl turns around and smiles. "Are you going to tell me…"

Her voice trails away as she sees what Susan's been trying to hide for two months now. Susan blushes and bows her head. She wants to cover her face up, but it's too late now. She's decided to trust Hannah."

"Wow, your eyes…" Hannah says, and Susan knows she must be horrified.

"It's called heterochromia…" she admits, "I've been wearing brown contacts over my blue eye so that they match but-"

"You've been covering your eyes up?" Hannah exclaims before she can finish her sentence. "Why?"

Susan is confused. "Because it looks weird?"

"What! No! It looks really cool!" she tells her.

"Really?" Susan can barely believe what she's hearing. It's 6AM, she mustn't be completely awake yet, she must still be asleep.

"Yes! I think you look great with your eyes like that."

Susan is completely astounded. Here they are, in the tiny dorm bathroom they share with three other girls, and her best friend is telling her her eyes are cool?

"Why have you been covering them up?" Hannah asks.

"Because I thought people would think I'm weird…" she admits.

"Well, I think they're fantastic!"

Hannah smiles at her, and Susan feels a little better. Her heterochromia has always gotten her strange looks, so she begged her parents to by her contacts to go to Hogwarts, so that she would fit in. But they're really annoying and uncomfortable, and Hannah thinks they're fun, so maybe she'll give it a go.

After all, if her friend likes them, why shouldn't everyone else?
