Hogwarts, 2021 Auction – Day 19, Auction 2 – [action] singing under the shower

Warning: mentions character death

~~ song of your heart ~~

At first, Padma thinks she's dreaming.

It's a real possibility.

These days, she's been having the most awful dreams. Well, they're not awful at first, no. At first, it seems like everything is wonderful, and by wonderful, she means normal. She wakes up in her dorm, maybe flirts a bit with Anthony, heads down to breakfast, where Lavender and Parvati wave her over. The day continues like that, and it's just the most comforting thing.

No. What is awful is when she wakes up.

And suddenly she realises that things will never be like that, ever again.

The Ravenclaw Tower is partly destroyed, Anthony left for America and Merlin knows when he'll come back, and, of course, Lavender will never wave her over to breakfast ever again. That's when the huge sense of loss overcomes her.

Which is why, when she hears the soft humming she thinks she's dreaming.

If there was always a thing Padma envied her sister was her beautiful singing voice. Padma can't hold the barest hint of a melody, whereas Parvati is a real lark. It's kind of absurd because they are literally twin sisters.

It's just a few notes, here and there. Padma isn't even sure it's a real melody, just the sort of thing that pops into your head and winds up and down into something quaint and sweet. It's beautiful.

Padma pauses by the shower door.

She never thought Parvati would ever sing again.

For months, she'd been completely and utterly silent, never speaking a word. Lavender's death had hit her hard. After all, it's not everyday you lose the love of your life. Padma had always been there for Parvati, but the truth is, that in those moments she didn't know what to do.

She still doesn't.

But this soft humming, this singing, gives her a little hope.

If Parvati's singing under the shower, it means that maybe, things are getting a little better for her.

Padma walks past the bathroom door with a smile on her face.
