A/N: Hi everybody! Here's the third chapter of Fell For Those Emerald Eyes, although unfortunately, this one is pretty short. Please R/R! I really enjoy reading your reviews.
REPLIES TO REVIEWS:
Annie Annony: Thank you for your review, and I agree with your reasoning, but please keep in mind that this story happens in an AU (Alternate Universe), and the Dursleys, including Petunia, are OOC (Out Of Character).
polarbear20000: Thank you! (and more is coming your way)
Irianna Marie: Thank you so much! This chapter gives a little bit more information, though most of the information will come in the next chapter, when Severus, Petunia, and Vernon go to Diagon Alley.
Severus Snape was having a bad day. It was a horrible, disastrous day, to be exact. Albus Dumbledore had Floo-ed in with a sorrowful, grandfatherly expression and informed him that Lily Evans had died. Needless to say, Severus had spent the day cursing that "arrogant toerag James Potter", cursing himself for losing Lily in 5th year, mourning Lily, and drowning in firewhiskey.
When the rap on his door sounded, Severus reached for his Sobering Potion, downed the foul-tasting potion, and staggered to the door. Who would step into industrial Spinner's End and visit Severus Snape, son of the violent and nearly always drunk Tobias Snape? Severus dearly hoped it wasn't Albus Too-Many-Names Dumbledore, their last meeting had sent him reeling.
When Severus opened the door, he wondered if he had brewed his Sobering Potion incorrectly, or someone poisoned his bottled firewhiskey with the Draught of Hallucination. On his doorstep was a skinny, horse-faced woman cradling a bundle of blue blankets and a plump, ruddy man with a quivering mustache and a striking similarity to a walrus, holding a baby with cornflower blue eyes and shaggy blonde hair.
"Dearest Tuney," Severus greeted as silkily as he could, thanking every deity that he was a natural Occlumens and was able to school his shock. "What brings you here to the worst part of Cokeworth to visit the man who wears his mother's blouse?" The last sentence was spat with so much venom and hatred that it practically suffocated Petunia.
"Severus, I- I'm sorry about what happened all those years ago," Petunia wheezed as Severus raised an eyebrow. "We need your help."
When Severus did not budge, Petunia added, as a last resort, "For Lily."
Grudgingly, Severus stepped aside and ushered the Dursleys inside, an old couch suddenly appearing next to his customary armchair, the door closing with a small thump at the flick of Severus' wrist.
"Take a seat," Severus ordered stiffly, and both Petunia and Vernon sat down. "What, pray tell, do you need my help for?"
"We need for you to help take care of Lily's child, Harry," Petunia admitted, holding out the bundle of blue blankets. "Vernon and I are perfectly capable of raising Harry, but we need your help in m-m-magical matters."
"It would mean a lot to us," Vernon added, looking faintly uncomfortable.
Severus blinked, though impassively. "And why is that?"
Petunia squirmed uncomfortably. "When I heard that Lily died, I was devastated. I never made up to her, and I swore that I would take care of her son."
"The lad is family, after all," Vernon grunted.
Severus summoned his wand from his wand holster, and motioned to Petunia. "Hand the child over," he instructed. "First Potter, then Dursley."
"It's Harry and Dudley," Petunia corrected her childhood nemesis, then gently handed over the baby in blue.
As soon as Severus's arms touched Harry, his eyes shot open. "Sev! Mummy show me picturds o' you!"
Severus blinked, hard. "Lily showed you pictures of me?"
"Yes!" Harry clapped happily. "Dere be Mummy and you at Hog-a-wart!"
Severus was befuddled and touched, something he had not felt since a long time. Why would Lily show her son pictures of him?
"Hold still," Severus ordered, tucking the information away for later. "I will run a diagnostic check on you."
Obediently, Harry sat still in his blankets as the Potions Master raised his wand and muttered an incantation under his breath.
A loud, theatrical, Muggle-magician bang! sounded as smoke enveloped the old room. As it cleared, the expression of one furious Petunia Dursley was unearthed when she saw that Harry was lying, prone, on his back.
"Severus Snape!" she screeched. "What did you do to Harry?"
"Sit down, Tuney," Severus sneered. "Your precious child is temporarily immobilized. Now settle down so I can read aloud the diagnostics!"
Petunia reluctantly sat down, though her face was still contorted in a snarl.
"Harry is incredibly powerful," Severus announced in a pained voice, as if it physically hurt to admit. To what extent, I am unsure, but the goblins at Gringotts will surely be able to tell. Now, I suppose you want me to look at… Dudley as well?"
Vernon nodded silently and gingerly handed the shaggy, blonde-haired boy to the bitter, greasy-haired Potions Master.
"Rennervate," Severus pointed his wand at the unconscious, black-haired boy next to him, and hesitantly placed Dudley into his arms. "Status magicae revelare."
Dudley glowed blue to the shrieks of Petunia and Vernon.
"Quiet!" Severus spat over the hubbub of noises. "I cast a single spell on your son to reveal his magical status which is completely harmful. Your Dudley is perfectly and healthily magical."
Petunia beamed with pride while Vernon smiled.
"We were wondering if you could show us around D-D-Diagon A-Alley?" Petunia asked hopefully as they were handed back their boys.
Severus sneered, but did not object. "Then we will need to be disguised," he muttered, training his wand on Petunia and Vernon. "Fucum prae oculis!"
Wordlessly, Severus handed over a quickly conjured mirror to the two. As Petunia and Vernon gazed at the mirror, they gasped. Petunia now had dark green eyes, high cheekbones, an upturned nose, a refined jawline, a small bust, and dark black curls down her back. Vernon's body lost its flabby weight, instead becoming broad and well-built. He, too, had a refined jawline and high cheekbones, but with hazel eyes and brunette hair.
As Petunia and Vernon gaped at their disguised forms, a scowling and Glamoured Severus transfigured their clothes into Wizarding robes. "Stop being a bunch of gaping dunderheads and follow me."
With a swirl of Severus' robe, the three exited the small house in Spinner's End and headed for Diagon Alley.
