When we reached Shiro, I see the older man's worried gaze. I look over to the wounded leader and his wound catches my attention. Without hands covering the wound on Keith's side, it looks terrible and fairly familiar...
I don't know but the purple glow from the wound and the pain Keith seems to be just looks familiar but not on Keith. Like a familiar pain on a different person. I look up to Shiro to see his eyes widen before he quickly takes over Allura and Pidge's place, lightly touching the side but not the wound itself. Keith still groans lowly in pain. I grit my teeth and we continue our trek up the stairs of Atlas, but before we could reach the top, the wound pulsed and the heat intensified, making me startle.
Keith just groaned in pain as he panted, his face turning paler and his hair sticking to his face. Shiro frowns hard and asks Keith if we should stop for a minute.
Keith shakes his head at the option, "I'm fine, prom..." the wound pulsed again with more heat and the glow grew brighter. Keith went boneless so suddenly that we had to scramble to catch him though all we did when he collapsed was soften his fall as we went down with him.
Luckily, we didn't fall down the stairs, I don't think we could handle any broken bones or concussions. I hear a pained whimper that made my eyes widen in surprise though I heard the pitiful noise not even five minutes ago. Keith is the fearless leader; he shouldn't be brought down because of a glowing wound... Though said glowing wound seems to be making said fearless leader heat up.
"Quiznack," I hear Shiro mumble under his breath after Keith groans in pain, "We need to get him in the medbay."
I nod and we start to lift him off the ground resulting in Keith clenching and making a painful sound through his teeth. We quickly move up the stairs and into Atlas. I hear the others follow over Keith's gasp of pain and see the medic team with a stretcher at the ready as Shiro speaks up.
"This looks to be the same wound Haggar gave me when we rescued Allura," and just like that images of Shiro's wound and his pinched expression pop into my head already comparing to Keith's own wound and wounded expression.
We walk faster to the stretcher and try our best to gently place him on it but groaned long and low. The wound seems to be pulsing with whatever energy that contaminated him. Next thing I know he is coughing up blood and everyone shares a glance before they are leading the black paladin into the Atlas and the infirmary. I stay behind with my other teammates to see them with pale faces and wide eyes that no doubt match mine. We watch until the doctors and Keith are out of view before we stare at the floor with disdain.
"Do we know what will happen to Keith?" Hunk asks and all I do is shrug and look over to Shiro.
"I had the same wound as he did, maybe not as dangerous and lethal, but in the same family of the wound after we rescued Allura and it didn't start giving me trouble into an hour and half after I was hit. Again, Keith's has to be more lethal and directed because his symptoms match my own before you guys came to get us off the planet."
I groan because this could be the worst possible thing that could have happened. The timing is too perfect for Haggar's side so she must have planned to take out Keith. Stupid witch.
"So what do we do now?" Pidge asks this time and I answer her question.
"We can give these materials to wherever they need to be distributed to and then we can wait for oh Fearless to recover so we can back out saving day," I try to make it lighthearted but the situation is too disturbing.
Their shoulders all lower with their head and the air leaves their body in despair. I feel the exact same way.
