Amy walked through an empty apartment 4A before joining Sheldon and Max where they were waiting for her near the door. "You good now?" Sheldon asked.
"Yeah," she nodded while wiping a few tears from her cheeks. "This was our first home as a family. It's sad that we're leaving it. So many things happened in this apartment."
"But we're moving into a house now," Max pointed out. "We're gonna have a lot more room now. Isn't that why you wanted us to move?"
Smiling at her son, Amy wrapped her arm around his shoulders while moving towards exiting the apartment. "It is and I'm excited to be moving, but there's something bittersweet about this chapter of our lives ending. I'll stop being all sentimental. Let's get over to the house. I'm sure the movers are already there."
Hours later, Sheldon and Amy had directed the movers in unloading the truck and the boxes were in the correct rooms. Max was busy unpacking his room after his bed had been set up when Sheldon poked his head in to check on the progress. "How's it going in here?"
"I really like the shelves that were already here. I don't think I'm going to need the bookshelf I had in my old room. Can you help me move the bookshelf out of here? Maybe we can put it in the baby's room? I had a lot of books when I was little, so she'll probably need one, too," the twelve-year-old pointed out.
"Sure," Sheldon agreed while lifting one end of the bookshelf as Max lifted the other end. The pair got the shelf into the hallway and stopped. "I don't know which room is going to be the baby's room. Let's just put it across the hall from your room. We can always move it again after talking to Amy about this."
As if on cue, Amy appeared at the top of the stairs. "What's going on up here? I could hear you two moving something and now I see it was Max's bookshelf."
"All of my books fit on the shelves that are already in my room. I thought we could put my bookshelf in the baby's room, but we realized we didn't know what room you wanted to be the baby's room," explained Max. "We were going to put it in the room across from mine. Since you're here, I guess you can tell us what room you want to be the baby's room."
Amy looked in both of the empty rooms. "Um, I don't know. That one is closer to mine and Sheldon's room, which will be more convenient for those middle-of-the-night feedings and changes, but this one is bigger. I guess it doesn't matter to me. We can use whichever room isn't the baby's room as an office slash guest room."
"Or it can be the next baby's room," Max hopefully suggested as Sheldon's eyes widened in response.
"Why don't we wait until this baby is born and is older before anyone says anything about having another baby," Sheldon quickly suggested. "We'll put this in the room closer to the master bedroom since it sounds like that will be the better choice for the baby."
Amy joined Sheldon in bed that evening. "I'm impressed with how much you and Max got done today. Howard and Bernadette said they can come over tomorrow to help. Penny's coming, too, but she'll help me with unpacking the kitchen and smaller stuff."
"You got a lot unpacked, too. I think we'll be almost completely unpacked before going back to work on Tuesday."
Rolling on her side, Amy reached for Sheldon's hand, "Thank you for not encouraging Max with the idea of us having another baby after this little girl is born. This pregnancy has been easy so far, but there's no way to know if things will be the same in the future."
"I know," he answered, also rolling on his side to face his wife and placing his free hand on her stomach. "I would love to have more babies with you after this one, but understand that might not be possible. You know, I've heard its tradition for couples to christen their new home on the first night they're there."
Amy lifted her head to kiss Sheldon. A few minutes into their make-out session, they were interrupted by a knock on the door. "Mom, Dad, can I come in?" came Max's voice from the other side of the door.
Sheldon shifted away from Amy before answering, "Come in." The boy opened the door only far enough to stick his head into the room. "What's up? I thought you were asleep already."
"I was, but I got up to use the bathroom and now I can't fall back to sleep."
Already moving to get out of bed, Amy motioned for Max to exit the room. "Come on, let's go," she said before glancing back at Sheldon. "I'll be back in a few minutes and we'll continue exploring that theory you were telling me." Max retreated to his new room and climbed back in bed before either of them said anything. Amy sat on the edge of his bed, "You usually don't have a problem going back to bed. Is everything okay?"
"I guess," he answered, adjusting the blankets around him. "I'm sorry if you didn't like me saying about you having another baby after this one. I think it kind of freaked dad out."
Amy smiled at her son, "It's okay. It's something dad and I have discussed, but don't want to make any final decisions on until this baby is actually born and a little older. It's been a while since you and I have talked about everything that's been going on. Are you still excited about the new house and the baby?"
"Yeah. The house is really nice. I like that I can walk to my school from here. And a lot of my friends' houses are close, so I can ride my bike and not have you or dad drive me all the time. I'm looking forward to having a little sister. I'll be able to teach her all the important things."
"And what important things do you plan on teaching her?" questioned Amy.
Max shrugged his shoulders, "You know, things like dad doesn't like touching the guts of a pumpkin, so he probably won't help carve pumpkins at Halloween. And I'll show her the tape of Grandpa George like dad showed me. I can also watch out for her, make sure no one picks on her, that sort of stuff."
Leaning over to hug her son, "You're going to be such a good big brother. You think you're good to go back to sleep now?"
"Yeah. Good night."
"Good night," replied Amy before exiting the room and making her way back down the hallway to the master bedroom. Turning her attention back to her husband, she stated, "Nothing to worry about with him. Now, where were we?"
Sheldon waited for Amy to get back in bed before pulling her close. "I think we were about here."
