Chapter 27
The weather was getting colder, the unusually warm fall has become to cool as the seasons change. Yet with the change of seasons comes a new problem.
"Baby dragons cannot stand the cold."
It was a group meeting as always. Choso had Yuuji bundled up in his shirt as Kitsune explained that with the weather changing, Yuuji has to be careful. "Is it serious?" Choso asked as he held Yuuji a little closer to his chest. He smiled as his little brother purred and nestled into him.
Ah serotonin. It's the best sensation in the world.
Kitsune appeared stern. "If a young dragon is left in the cold for more than twenty minutes… they will die." She said bluntly.
Suddenly the whole room became focused. "Shit, really?" Suiryu asked.
"Many have died in such a way, most often it was their mothers trying to prevent them from being stolen and taken by rival males… male dragons do not tolerate little ones. They consider all newborns a threat to them." She explained.
"Shit, who knew dragons had dick issues…" Suiryu muttered.
Choso suddenly wrapped his arms around Yuuji a little tighter. "What temperature?" he asked aloud.
"Huh?"
"What's temperature will this make him vulnerable? I know the weather outside is cooler, at the same time. I will not risk Yuuji. Kitsune, what the danger zone temperature wise for him?"
She appeared rather amazed to the question, she turned and smacked Suiryu with her fan. "OW, bitch!" he protested.
"Why aren't you asking questions like this? YOU'RE THE guardian!" she protested.
Suiryu muttered under his breath as he rubbed the back of his head. "I would but Choso beat me to the punch… or Megumi would have asked, knowing him."
"Quite seriously though. What temperature do we need to be aware of that would put Itadori at risk?" Megumi asked.
"0 degrees Celsius." Kitsune said. "That's the danger zone."
"Shit," Suiryu muttered again.
"That's not a lot of buffering for us, the temperature now is dropped to five degrees." Said Nobara. "We ought to take into factor the wind to, that makes it even colder."
Gojo nodded but then a smile came over him. "Well if anything, we will do what Choso is doing!" he said aloud and smiled. "If anyone has Itadori and are going outside, we tuck him in our jackets! We will be Itadori's living parka!"
"You just want to shove him in your jacket and walk around with him so people notice!" Suiryu scolded. "We ought to look at winter clothing for him."
"Human clothing will be insufficient." Kitsune said instantly.
Choso was curious to this. "How do you know?"
"Humans generate body heat, for a baby dragon, they do not. Since they develop the ability to breath fire later, it's to help them regulate their temperature for when the time comes for them to learn how to control their flame. Being so young, they would harm themselves more than anything. So, they do not generate heat or it may trigger their fire breathing ability."
"Damn…" muttered Nobara. "But, if he has a heat source, say one of us, would that suffice for the time being?" she asked.
Kitsune nodded. "It's not practical but yes."
"I have no qualms in doing this," Choso said aloud. "My brothers are more than willing to assist as well, right?"
The brothers have been oddly silent on the subject. "Some of us don't generate a lot of body heat either, Choso… if anything we ought to make certain that every brother here knows red flowing scale. That not only circulates the blood better but it does heat up the body as well." Junpei explained. "I've been looking into this, the human body is about 37 degrees Celsius. Our body temperature we're luck to break 18 degrees."
The room paused and stared at Junpei oddly. "Since when…"
"I'm a teenager, I got to experiment with my body from time to time!" he said and snickered.
Suiryu cackled a little as well. "Hehe… he's not wrong on that…" he said with a smirk on his face.
"Ew," muttered Mika.
"Please, it's natural!" Gojo insisted.
Such strange people little brother has become friends with…
"Back to the main point!" Kitsune called as her fan smacked the table rather abruptly. It did bring everyone back to focus. "Ahem… Young Master must be kept warm at all times during the fall and winter. This is serious and the task MUST be taken seriously!" she announced. "Now, are there any questions?"
"Is there a way to make him clothing to keep him warm?" Choso asked. "I can knit him blankets and I am trying my hand at infant clothing as we speak."
"He's been dressing Tanso's familiars in little sweaters…" snickered Eso.
"They were practice!" he protested.
But the table giggled anyways at his attempt. He didn't mind though, he was getting better at his knitting.
"I can secure you materials that will keep young master warm. Fire moth silk is a good liner; Fenrir fur is a wonderful insulation. And it will react to the fire moth silk and generate heat for young master… Hmm, I should look at the inferno hares too…"
"Where the hell do these creatures live?!" Suiryu asked in amazement. "Next thing you are telling me there are orcs and trolls too…"
Kitsune was rather silent on that subject, but it only made Choso believe that such creatures did exist!
"Anyways, keep young master warm until I can secure materials and perhaps create something myself to assist him in keeping warm… NO ONE neglect their duties to keep young master safe, understood!" she demanded the room, but her eyes focused on Suiryu the most.
With the room in agreement, she vanished from sight once more. "I get him first when he wakes up!" Gojo announced.
Everyone stared at him oddly. "You're dibbing Yuuji?" Suiryu asked with a rather untrusting tone.
Choso too wasn't quite trusting of Gojo at the moment. Ever since he put Yuuji in dresses and took pictures he wasn't sure why he would want his little brother first.
However, as Junpei mentioned, they had to train the brothers on using red flowing scale to ensure they can heat up their bodies for their little brother when he needs warmth.
Suiryu too was distrusting yet sighed aloud. "I have to go to my other job soon… Choso?" he asked.
He reluctantly nodded in agreement. "He's asleep right now, when he wakes, yes Satoru. I will entrust him with you."
Gojo was grinning from ear to ear.
There is just something unnerving about that sorcerer's smiles…
