A/N: We RnA fans know the 2006 Markuum Island reunion was a little wrong. In this story, they never told Robin, that it didn't work between them. They were happy together when Anna was taken, Robert went after the woman he loves after serving Holly with divorce papers as was played out on our screens. They might not have fallen into each other's arms when they first saw each other. Maybe Anna's reaction was to hit him several times out of frustration with him but there are also no hard feelings between them about what happened during their time apart. This is a RnA Christmas story because I think we need one this year. Enjoy a little fluff.

Misplaced Earrings

December 20th, 2006

It had been an odd year. First ending up in Port Charles because of an assignment, seeing Robin again. That first meeting could have gone a lot better but at least they had made real progress since then. It would have been nice to spend Christmas with her but Robert understood that she had other things to keep her busy this year. Her relationship with Patrick seemed to be getting more serious and she didn't need her long-lost father being a third wheel for them this year.

As he stepped out of the cab Robert looked up at the old building in front of him, of course, Anna would live in a place like this. The building itself is like a piece of artwork. He took another deep breath, this was the third time he's had to still his nerves since getting off the plane. Robert wasn't entirely sure what had motivated Anna to invite him. It had been two weeks ago that she had called to invite him. She had told him she didn't have plans this year because her latest assignment had kept her out of London for so long. She had only returned the day before yesterday.

They both knew Robin needed a little space this year as well. It wouldn't be much longer before Patrick has to go for his six month test to see if he was positive. That was more than enough for her to worry about, Robin didn't need her parents hanging around. Then he grinned to himself, maybe they don't need their daughter around either.

Since they had both left Port Charles he and Anna had been talking a fair amount. They were busy with their work but getting to chat with each other seemed to be something they both enjoyed and looked forward to. Anna was the one that suggested they spend Christmas together, maybe she was interested in finding out where they go from here, maybe this is so they can find out if they should just stay friends. With his duffle bag slung over his shoulder he walked up the front step just as a couple was leaving. Robert stepped inside then went to find Anna's apartment.

As he knocked on her door, Robert had to wonder why he was feeling so nervous. He is at Anna's, she invited him here you need to relax, he thought. A moment later Anna opened the door and when she saw him a smile lit up her face. That made everything right, the nervousness was gone and he knew he was where he should be.

"Hi, you made it," Anna said as she pulled him into a hug.

"Merry Christmas," he said as he returned the hug.

Anna leaned back, with her arms still around him, "Hey, we say Happy Christmas here."

"You want me to sound like some whinging palm?"

Anna laughed and hugged him again then they turned and walked into her apartment. "No we can't have that can we." Anna looked over and smiled at him, she was very glad he agreed to come. "I have a couple of surprises for you while you're here. We are hosting a little Christmas get together, yes you are my co-host as well as going out a couple of times."

"Oh, so you've been telling people there's a man in your life and I get to pretend to be that man."

"That is not what I said. Sure it will be nice having you there for these two parties I have to go to but Sean and Tiffany know what the situation is." Anna wished she knew what the situation was. When she had invited Robert for the holidays she had said it and knew that was what she wanted before giving it a second thought.

Ever since the spring when she had learned that Robert was alive and they had seen each other there had been this feeling of ease. Things hadn't suddenly gotten better or easier but knowing she has him back, that Robert Scorpio was in this world and only a phone call away gave her peace of mind. She leaned into him a little more and his arm tighten around her as she did. Okay, maybe it's more than just peace of mind. She has this amazing man back.

Robert was looking around Anna's apartment. It was a nice little apartment and had many touches that made it very much Anna's. The living room was a warm colour giving it a welcoming feel. There were even family pictures on her mantle. The kitchen was just off the living room with a partial wall by the counter space that gave the apartment an open feel. Robert noticed there was a small dining area just beyond the kitchen. There was a short hall as well, Robert assumed would lead to her bedroom.

"So where am I sleeping?" he finally asked after looking around.

"I hope you don't mind the couch," Anna said looking up at him.

"I don't mind at all," he said then leaned in and kissed her cheek.

Anna put her hand on his cheek, and held his gaze for a moment, "Um, you can put your bag in my room."

"I'll do that. I'll even keep my snooping to a minimum while I'm in there." That made Anna laugh which made Robert smile. "Do we have plans this evening? I'm starving, can I interest you in going out for dinner?"

"We do not have plans tonight and I would love to take you to this little place a few blocks from here."

"Sounds good to me." Robert went to put his bag away then wandered back into the living room. He saw Anna and couldn't help staring at her, she is still breathtakingly beautiful. He wanted to take her in his arms but friends seems to be where they are. "Alright, lead the way my stomach is near empty."

Anna turned and smiled, "Oh, well we can't have that. Just let me get my things then we can go."

As Anna put her phone in her purse then picked up her keys, she smiled letting her mind wander just a little. This is nice, it hadn't occurred to her that she had been looking forward to Robert getting here. That she really did want him here with her for Christmas. Something switched when she opened the door and he was standing there, things feel right now. It almost seems like this is where they need to be this year. Sean Tiffany and Annie will be here on Christmas Eve. This will be Robert's first real Christmas since they were married and shared that magical time together. A single tear rolled down her cheek, thinking about what had been taken from them. Quickly she wiped it away, this was not the time to think about that. This year they get to enjoy the holidays and that is exactly what she is going to do. "Alright let's go." She held out her hand then they left. Anna loved that no matter how much time had passed, they were never uncomfortable around each other. One of her favourite people had just arrived and she was looking forward to spending the holidays together and seeing what it could mean for them.

The following evening, standing in Anna's living room looking at his reflection in a mirror, "I now understand why you wanted my sizes. I guess this means there are no fuzzy pyjamas under the tree for me," Robert said as he straightened his tie.

Anna peaked out of her room and grinned seeing him in his tux. "You look great. Since when do you wear fuzzy pyjamas?" She couldn't help herself and took a nice long look at Robert. He always looks amazing in a tux and he looks like he's been taking good care of himself. "Mmm, still so sexy," she said under her breath.

"Well I don't make a habit of it but sometimes people get you strange things as gifts," he called back.

Anna walked out of her room, as she put her earrings on, "There are no strange gifts under my tree unless you put them there."

"Not me," he said with a grin as he took in the view before him. Anna in an emerald dress, perfect for the season. "You are gorgeous. Absolutely stunning."

Anna flushed slightly at his compliment, the way he was still looking at her told her he meant it. "I hardly ever get to go out like this and to make it better I have a date. We are going to make everyone at this silly party green with envy."

"Now I understand the choice in dress colour." Robert stepped over and kissed her cheek. He picked up her coat and help her put it on then offered her his arm. "Shall we?"

Anna smiled and took his arm. "We shall. Let's have fun tonight. It's been far too long since I let loose a little."

"I'm always on board for fun."

"That's what I'm counting on. Now let's go."

As they rode in the cab, Anna told him more about what they should expect. Yes, this is a work party but she has not tried making friends or building relationships here. Anna is known as a no-nonsense agent. She gets the results, she is driven and she seems to like to work alone. Anna knows that was her reputation and she is more than fine with that. Anna explained that she likes her fellow agents seeing her that way. She didn't want to make friends at the agency, it was a job she was good at and that was all she wanted. It gave her something to be proud of but she would not let herself become a part of it like she had with the WSB. No agency will ever have the power to destroy her again.

"That's why I couldn't return to the WSB. They have the power to emotionally ruin me over and over. I can't keep walking that tight rope never knowing when they would take it all away again."

Anna could see the sadness in his eyes. She understood it so well, she has experienced that same sadness. "I guess what I was trying to explain is that tonight there are most likely going to be a lot of questions. These people know Devane, tonight I want to be Anna. I want to unwind have a little fun. Maybe get a little tipsy."

Robert grinned at her, "This sounds like my kind of night."

"I want it to be that kind of night. Let's just have fun. Let's dance, let's flirt. Let's get carried away talking about our past." There was a glim in her eye, it is always so easy to get carried away talking about their past, to times when they were so in love.

Robert reached up and stroked her cheek. "We'll do all of that." Then he just grinned. As much as he would like to kiss her, maybe that should wait a little longer.

Anna grinned as well, "Be my Robert tonight," she whispered.

He leaned in, Anna thought to kiss her cheek, "I have always been your, Robert," he whispered by her ear. Then he pulled her into his arms and hugged her tight. Afterwards, Anna put her head on his shoulder and they rode the rest of the way to the hotel like that.

Once they had checked their coats Anna turned and started leading them towards the banquet hall. As they got close to the doorway, she paused then took his hand. She did not want to be hit on, she didn't want any of these agents thinking after a few drinks they might have a chance. She wanted to come and enjoy herself, have a little fun then head home. Anna glanced up at Robert and they grinned at each other. He understood what she had just decided, he is her date tonight, not just a friend she brought with her.

As soon as they entered the room Anna felt eyes on her. She looked around and noticed an empty table close to the dance floor but also not that far from the bar. "Come on, let's claim that one." Anna started moving through the room, Robert close behind. He pulled out her chair for her then took a seat beside her. "You know I intend to flirt with you this evening. There is no reason I shouldn't, is there?"

Anna smiled as she watched the room then turned to look at him, "No, there isn't darling."

He put his arms on the back of her chair, his fingers slowly stroking her shoulder. Robert leaned in so his lips brushed against her hair as he said, "You still take my breath away." He let his cheek rub against her hair. It was always so soft and no matter the kind of shampoo she used there was always that scent that was so her, it captivated him.

Anna's hand moved to his knee, "I was hoping you'd like this dress."

"It isn't the dress, it's who's wearing the dress." Robert glanced up and notice four people walking towards their table. Flirting might have to wait a little longer. "Looks like we are about to get company."

"I see that. Agent John MacPherson, I believe that's his wife and the other man is Agent Long. I can't think of his first name but I think he's single so that might be his date." Anna filed him in before the others made it to the table.

"Anna Devane, I never thought I would see you at an event like this," John said as they reached the table. Robert then Anna stood up to greet them.

"Hello, John. Nice to see you. I was in the city and since I was actually going to be able to bring a date I thought why not come and have some fun."

"It's nice having loved ones around for the holidays. I'm Beth, I think we met once before." Then Beth glanced at Robert and grinned.

"Hi, I think we have. This is Robert."

Agent Long held out his hand next. "I'm Matt, this is my girlfriend, Rose."

"Pleasure to meet you." When all the introductions were done they all took their seats.

"I feel like I have met you before, Robert. Is that possible?" John asked.

"Anythings possible in our line of work."

"Oh, you're in this line of work as well?" John asked, instantly interested in this man at the table.

"Longer than any of you have been, I'd be willing to bet." Robert glanced at Anna. It seemed pretty clear to him she did not want to spend the night talking about work. "That isn't important tonight. Anna told me we are having fun and swapping work stories isn't what we had in mind."

Anna ran her hand up his back as she leaned into him a little. "I am all for funny stories as long as they aren't work-related," Anna said with a laugh.

"I'm with her, Rose you should be as well," Beth said with a smile, very glad she wasn't the only one that didn't want to talk about that. "Let's not talk about our work tonight. I don't want to hear about anyone being in danger or barely getting out of places alive. Let's just enjoy this wonderful party and talk about anything but the spy game."

"I second that," Robert said as he waved down a waiter. "I don't know about any of you but I think it's time to order some drinks. Let's get this party started."

It wasn't long before the drinks were flowing and they were all talking happily. After finishing their second drink Robert looked at Anna. "Would you care to dance?"

"I would love to, yes," she answered with a smile. "I was wondering when you'd ask."

"If you'll excuse us," Robert said as he stood up. Taking Anna's hand he led her to the dance floor. "You seem to be having a good time," he observed as they started to dance.

"I am. I love that quickly everyone agreed, no work talk. It's easier to let loose like this."

"I'm noticing." They moved around the dance floor. "It's been far too long since we've done this."

"I've always loved dancing with you."

"I feel the same way." She was already flush against him. "You have always fit perfectly in my arms."

"I do, don't I?" Anna said with a grin. She put her head on his shoulder. "It's been a while since I danced the night away."

"Challenge accepted." Then he kissed the top of her head. "Time means nothing when you're in my arms."

"Hon?" Anna looked up at him as they continued to dance.

"We don't have to figure it out tonight." Robert knew she was feeling what he was. Since he had arrived the day before one thing seemed pretty clear. They are both open to seeing what could happen. He leaned in and kissed her tenderly. "We have time."

Anna's hands were now both at the back of his neck. "I am in no rush but if you are willing," she paused, wondering what he was thinking.

"I'm willing. I haven't wanted anything else since you were taken from me."

Anna put her head back on his shoulder. Closed her eyes, breathing him in. "Good, that's good."

Robert lay on the couch, thinking about the night before. Unless he was very wrong he and Anna agreed to start seeing each other last night. Yes, they'd had a fair amount to drink by the end of the night but it had been early in the evening when they agree to see what could happen now. The goodnight kiss when they got back the night before was playing in his mind. Her lips were still so tempting, so kissable.

It may have taken a while to get here and he knew that it could have turned out very differently. There was no saying what could have happened when Anna found out. She could have not accepted what he had told her. Robert started thinking about seeing her for the first time again.

Anna Devane is like no other and that included how she re-entered his life. Lowered down from a helicopter and sexy as hell. He could see it all in his mind like he was there again.

My god there she is. Pulling her helmet off, flipping her hair back then hugging Robin. "Anna." This is not how their reunion should go. They should be alone somewhere so they can talk.

Just how he said her name, it still means so much. When she turned Anna knew he would be there looking back at her.

"It's been a while."

Running her hands through her hair, with a smile on her face. "Yes, it's been too long." Where the hell have you been? Don't look at me like that, before she fully realized what she was doing Anna kicked him in the jaw, knocking him to the ground. "You miserable son of a bitch!" Yeah, her anger needed to come out, Anna had felt sure this would happen when she saw him.

Robert rolled to look up at her, leaning on an elbow as he rubbed his chin with a grin on his face. "I guess I had that coming."

Anna standing in a ready stance, preparing for her next attack. "Oh, baby I'm just getting started." When she tried to kick him again, Robert grabbed her foot and pulled her to the ground, quickly moving to cover her and prevent her next attack.

After she tried to throw a few punches he had her arms, "I don't want to hurt you."

Pushing him away, Anna flips herself back to her feet and is ready for him when Robert stands back up. "Believe me, those days are over." Anna started moving around him, looking for an opening for her next attack. Robert watched her every move. "You! You have some nerve showing up after pretending to be dead after all these years."

He moved ready to defend himself, "Hey."

"I only wish it had been the real thing." Her kick missed the mark but moved him back some. She was still on the attack. "You knew I was alive! You knew my memory was gone and you did nothing."

"I spent fifteen years protecting your," he blocked her punches, "ass."

"Ha!"

He grabbed for her arms. "Annie."

"Don't!" she tried to pull away but he held her close to him.

"Annie, I had to stay away or they would have killed you."

"No, I don't believe you." She hit his chest with both fists.

"I couldn't contact you or Robin."

Anna pushed him away. "You're lying!"

"I would not lie about something like this. To protect my family I had to let them believe the worst."

Anna could hear his pain. He wanted her to understand. He was telling her he had to make the same choice she once had. "No! No, they didn't do it again," she whispered as she shook her head. Tears started to form in her eyes.

"I couldn't come home." Robert pulled her into his arms. "I wanted to be with you but they would have killed both you and Robin," he whispered into her ear.

Anna started to cry in his arms. Why? Why had they been kept apart, there had to be a reason. "I want answers." her arms wrapped around his waist.

"Not here," he said against the side of her head.

"Before we leave here?"

"Yes, just not in front of an audience, please," he said with a grin as he held her.

Anna giggled a little at the inside joke. She leaned back and looked at him, really looked at him. Putting her hands on his cheeks as they looked into each other's eyes. Studying his face, he had aged, there were more lines there now but he is still that beautiful man she had always known. She put her arms around him and they held each other.

The five people that had watched this all play out were still watching them closely. Holly and Luke shared a look after it was clear the fight was done. "Let's give them some time," Luke suggested as he led a hesitant Holly back inside the house. She watched Robert and Anna until she could no longer see them.

Dillon and Lulu were still in shock and weren't exactly sure what had just happened. Robin stepped closer to them, "Would you two give us some time alone. I want to talk to my parents."

"Sure, we were just gonna head back inside as well," Lulu said, then grabbed Dillon's arm and dragged him away.

They had a nice talk with Robin then Robert took Anna aside and they had a long talk. He explained everything he knew. There were things he couldn't answer, not because he didn't want to but because he honestly did not know the answer. He told her everything he could and knew all he could do was wait and see if she can accept what he had told her.

By the time they left the Markuum Islands Robert knew Anna accepted what he had told her. He just hadn't known what that actually meant. They had both been in Port Charles some this year, even at the same time. He had never gotten the impression Anna was ready to see what might happen next or if that was something she was even remotely interested in. She also never got that annoyed with his flirting. It had been when he was jumped by Alcazar's men that Anna started hinting that there could be more for them.

Robert smiled, hearing Anna move around in her bedroom. He got up and started the coffee. Might as well see what she had to make breakfast with.

When Anna walks out of her bedroom the first thing she saw was a half-dressed Robert making breakfast. His back was to her but damn he looks fine. She leaned against the door frame, watching him move about her kitchen. Anna thought back to the first time she had seen him strut his stuff. On their first honeymoon, she thought with a little laugh, that first assignment in the French Riviera. Robert in black plants walking across the room. Them jumping into bed as a cover. Getting to touch him, Anna bit her lip then grinned shaking her head.

She stepped further into the room, "Good morning."

Robert turned and smiled. "Good morning Luv. How did you sleep?"

"Mmmm, wonderfully." Anna walked over and Robert leaned against the counter. "I was thinking about you as I fell asleep."

"You don't say. I had a wonderful dream about you last night as well."

"Really?" Anna leaned in and kissed him. "It's been far too long since a sexy man has made me breakfast."

"If you are a good girl, I'll do this a few more times while I'm here."

"I thought you like it when I'm bad." Anna stepped back, a playful twinkle in her eye. Then she turned to get them coffee. Robert chuckled to himself then turned to continue cooking.

When Anna put his coffee beside him, she leaned against the counter close to him. "I want to call Robin sometime today."

"Alright. Do we have any other plans?"

"I don't think so. Sean and Tiff get in tomorrow evening. Then we'll be spending time with them."

"I thought you said we had two events to go to."

Anna grinned, "I did. You are my New Years' Eve date as well."

"Oh am I?"

"I hope you will be." Anna turned a little and put her hand on his shoulder. "You did say you were staying until the 5th."

"I did say that, and yes I will be your date." Robert looked her up and down, Anna was dressed for the day. "This is basically ready. I'm just gonna go get dressed."

Anna lifted her cup to her lips, "If you insisted." Robert laughed as he left the room. This feels so good, so right. After all this time Robert finally felt like he gets to be happy again.

That evening, Anna lay in her bed, thinking about their day. It had been wonderful. Since neither of them had to do anything they spent the day playing tourist. They'd gone to a museum then out for a romantic dinner. Ending the evening with a good night kiss by her bedroom door.

How had they gotten here? Like when she had wandered back into his life oh so many years ago it had taken time to accept the events of that past. Anna had needed time to deal with the feelings connected to Robert's absence from their lives. To deal with discovering that the WSB kept him from her and from their daughter. When Robert had sat her down and told her everything he knew about what she had gone through after the tanker explosion. Everything he was put through. It had made her feel physically ill. The only way she could describe it was they had been controlled. The WSB had wanted both of them neutralized. If they couldn't kill them then taking their freedom was the next best thing. Anna hated how she always got worked up thinking about that. They can't change it, there is no use getting upset about it all over again.

Anna let her mind move to the better part of that evening. After she and Robert had talked, they found the others. They talked with everyone for a while and then it was time to get some sleep. With Robin beside her and safe, Anna had let herself do what she had been missing for years. She had thrown her leg over Robert and cuddled in as close as she could. It had felt so amazing to be that close to him again. When he had put his hand on her ass, Anna had leaned in and kissed his neck. "I have missed you, my love." Then she had let herself drift off to sleep. She had no idea if he had heard her and didn't care if he had.

That was a little over seven months ago. Enough time had passed that Anna has had the time she needed to deal with her feeling and was now very excited about what might come next. He's here with her for the holidays and they are dating. The smile grew on her face, this time let it be different.

Since they had the day to themselves again Robert decided he wanted to do something Anna would enjoy but that would be fun for him as well.

"We're going to a Pantomime?" Anna asked, sounding surprised.

Robert grinned, "Yeah, I thought it would be fun. I've never been and I was hoping you'd like the idea."

"I love it. I haven't been in years. I always had so much fun and it always made it feel more like Christmas." Anna walked over and hugged him, "Thank you."

"You're welcome." He put his hands on her hips. "I'm going to enjoy this right?"

"Pantomime is silliness for the sake of silliness. You are going to love it."

"Good." Then he leaned in and kissed her. When the kiss ended he put his forehead to hers. "I like being able to do that again."

"I do too." Anna stepped back. "So when are we putting up the tree? I only have a little artificial one but I still want us to have a tree."

"A tree is a must. I don't care how little it is. The last time I put up a tree I was a happily married man."

Anna reached for his hand, "We were so very happy. We should have had so much time." Anna lowered her head.

"Hey, we don't have to feel bad about that. That wasn't either of our faults. I want to keep moving forward. Ever since I was let out of that bloody agreement that's what I've tried to do. Keep moving forward, I can't dwell in the past and expect to find happiness."

"I think that is a very good outlook and maybe I need to do that more."

Robert pulled her into his arms and held her tight, "We have a little time before we have to leave. Why don't we put the tree up now and decorate it when we get back."

"I like that idea."

"Were Sean and Tiff coming over this evening?"

"Tiff said it would depend on their flight and how they all felt when they get in but that they would probably just wait until tomorrow."

"Alright, so we decorate the tree this evening. Order in some dinner."

"And watch some Christmas movies," Anna added.

"Cuddled up with you, watching movies seems like the perfect way to spend the evening."

"This feels like the perfect holiday vacation, even if by vacation I mean actually being home for once."

"Do you ever get tired of being out there?"

"I think if I had a reason to stay close to home I would be happy to find a job that lets me do that."

"Interesting." Robert turned, taking her hand as he did. "Come on, show me where the tree is, we should get the decorations out too."

Anna smiled, "They are all in my bedroom closet on the top shelf."

"Is this some trick to get me into your bedroom?"

"I don't need tricks to get you into my bedroom." She bit her lip when he glanced at her.

"No, you don't," he agreed with a grin.

Robert couldn't believe how much he had enjoyed the panto. While they ate a late lunch they both laughed and talked about it. "One day when we have grandkids I want to take them to these."

"I'd love that, hopefully, they would too." Anna touched his hand, "Does it sound strange to you as well, Us and grandkids?"

"Only after it came out of my mouth," he said and they both laughed. Robert leaned in so only she would hear. "You always make me want it all. With you I can have the career, I can have the family. I can have my perfect woman."

Anna blushed, "Stop," she said with a grin. Robert sat back in his chair, a smile on his face. "What does your schedule look like for the next few months?"

"It could be open. I haven't accepted any assignments yet. I like keeping my schedule fairly open. I couldn't do much for the last fifteen years so I invested a lot of my earning. I've done pretty well so I work because I want something to do not because I have to."

"Oh really? I got a nice settlement from the WSB a short time after getting my memory back." She saw that look on his face, "By any chance did you have anything to do with that?"

"I might have, yeah. I was able to help Robin, there were a couple scholarships she got because I created them just to help her. The WSB was willing to help you some when you recovered but I kept adding to the account they set up for you. I told them they couldn't stop me from supporting you, even if you never knew it had been me."

"Oh, Robert." Anna knew how much money she had been given.

"It's nothing. I couldn't do anything with the money I was earning so I put it to work and now we are both a lot better off for it."

"Are you ever going to tell Robin?"

"I hadn't really thought about it. I did it because it was the only way I could help our daughter. The WSB knew and were actually how I got to do that for her."

"If you don't want to, can I? Robin would love to know what you did for her."

"If you think she should know then I'll let you tell her." Robert grinned at Anna then leaned forwards again, putting his elbows on the table. "Everything I did, I did for my family."

Anna reached up and stroked his cheek, "I know that now. Robert, I'm happy you're here."

"So am I. I'm glad you invited me."

Anna grinned a little shyly, "I went back and forth about asking you for about a week before I called. On one hand, it made perfect sense to me that I would invite you for Christmas but on the other hand, there's fifteen years," she said with a confused look.

"We can't do anything about the time we lost. I wasn't sure what was going to happen this year. As much as I wanted to be with you or Robin or my brother I didn't feel like I could invite myself to any of your places. I think I would have just gone to Port Charles and hoped for the best if you hadn't invited me here."

"Hope for the best," she said with a laugh. "Someone would have taken pity on you and taken you in."

"This is much better. Come on, let's get out of here. It's nice out, we could go for a walk."

"Alright." They started to get up but before Robert could stand up, Anna stepped over to him and when he looked up she leaned down and kissed him tenderly. "Thank you for being you."

Robert kissed her softly then tucked some hair behind her ear, "That's something I'm kind of good at, loving you is another." Robert stood up when Anna leaned away from him. Seeing the look on her face, he leaned in and kissed her on the nose. "Let's go."

On their walk, Anna and Robert picked out some decorations from some of the small shops they passed. "These will look lovely," Anna said as she put the packages down on the table.

Robert stepped up behind her and wrapped his arms around her. "Not as lovely as you," then he kissed her neck. Anna leaned into him a little more, enjoying being in his arms. "I never thought this would actually happen again. You and me, spending the holidays together.

Anna turned in his arms, "After I remember who I was Christmas was a lot sadder. I could be happy and have fun at get-togethers but there was this sadness I couldn't share."

"No one else could understand what was missing."

Anna could feel her emotions start to get away from her. "I think we should start decorating." Anna turned her head, looking towards her couch. "Once we're settled in. I'd like to stay that way."

Robert grinned, "Mmm, I love how you think." Anna smiled then turned and started opening the packages. "I'll get the other ones." Robert gave her backside a pat as he walked away.

Anna smiled and glanced over her shoulder at him, he'll never change. She started pulling out the hand-crafted ornaments. Robert had put the tree on one of her end tables and since it was a 4' tree it actually seemed much bigger than it was. As she looked over their tree, memories of their last Christmas together played in her head. Robin's boyfriend drolling over Mac's date and making a fool of himself. Sharing stories over dinner, then exchanging gifts. Christmas morning, just the three of them opening gifts together. Spending the entire day together had been perfect.

"What are you thinking about?" Robert asked as he put down the rest of the decorations.

"Happy times," then she looked over at him, "with the people I love." Smiling she picked up a snowman ornament, then hung it on the tree. After watching her add a few more Robert started to help decorate. As he went through Anna's collection of decorations he found two that made him smile. He put them to the side, knowing exactly what he was going to do later.

Anna pulled out a beautiful angel tree topper, "Robin gave me this the year we found each other. That was five years ago."

"Finally knowing where you were again, knowing that you and Robin had found each other. I didn't know the last time I had been that happy."

"I think you should put this on," Anna said as she handed him the Angel.

With a small smile, he took it and placed it on the tree. Putting his arm around her shoulder, they stood looking at the tree. "I've got something for you."

"What? You didn't."

"Just wait, don't thank me yet." With a silly grin, he stepped back, "I think you'll like this." He held up his hand gesturing for her to wait. Anna watched him pick something up then put it behind his back. "I didn't have time to wrap them."

What is he up to she thought watching him? Anna couldn't help but laugh at the silly little smile Robert had on his face.

"There is still a little more decorating to do." Then Robert showed Anna what was in his hand. Two blue Christmas balls, "I found your earrings."

Anna burst out laughing.

"I couldn't believe these gems were just packed away with that other stuff."

"You're right these are priceless." Anna was still giggling as she attacked them to the earrings she was wearing like she had all those years before. Once they were in place, Robert pulled her into his arms and kissed her passionately.

When the kiss ended he held her close. With her head against his chest, he put his chin on the top of her head. "I have missed you so much."

"You don't have to miss me ever again."

Robert let out a relieved sigh, "That is music to my ears." He closed his eyes and just held her, a feeling of calm, of contentment washed over him as he held Anna. Her hand was slowly stroking his back. There had always been something in her tough that could calm him.

Anna stepped back from the embrace, "Let's get what we need to spend the rest of the night watching Christmas movies."

"You said there are snacks, right?" Robert asked, going along with the sudden change of topics.

"Yes, in that cupboard," she said pointing past his left shoulder. "There are takeout menus by the fridge, grab them so when we get hungry we don't have to get up."

"You really do want to settle in."

"Yes, I do. I'm going to go grab a blanket, maybe a couple of pillows. Baby, we are going to master veggie out tonight. And if you don't try to get a little handsy, I am going to be very disappointed," she added making them both laugh.

It took about fifteen minutes for them to get settled in. Anna was going to pick the first movie and then they'd see where they went from there.

After four movies, some Chinese takeout, and a fair amount of making out. Anna sat with her head on Robert's shoulder, his arm around her holding her close. Neither of them seemed to be in a rush to take it any further for now.

"I guess if we're getting company tomorrow we should think about getting some sleep," Robert suggested as he kissed the side of her head.

"But then we would have to move and I like it where I am."

"I like where you are too but we'll both be stiff and sore if we sleep like this."

Anna turned her head and smiled at him. "Just a little longer than I'll head off to bed."

He stroked her hair, "Alright." Then he leaned in and kissed her tenderly at first. The passion started to build. After letting themselves get carried away a little Robert leaned back and smiled. " You better get to bed before I end up joining you there."

Anna grinned, "I think that might happen before you have to leave again."

"That's something else for me to look forward to, not just opening gifts. I'll get to unwrap you." They both laugh then stood up. Robert walked her to her bedroom door. There they said goodnight before one last kiss. Then Anna went into her room and Robert back to the living room a smile still on his face. This is turning out to be a wonderful Christmas.

When Anna got up, Robert was already up making breakfast. Again he was dressed in only pyjama pants. He looked up when he noticed her, "Good morning, beautiful."

"Good morning." Anna walked over and gave him a quick kiss then noticed the teapot. "Did you make me tea this morning?"

"I did, and it should be steeped."

"Thank you, you didn't have to."

I didn't, but I wanted to." He reached out and grabbed her hand. Anna grinned as she turned back to him. Then she put her hands around his neck and kissed him. It was a long sensual kiss that left them both wanting more.

Standing with their foreheads together, Robert's hands on her hips. "I should get back to cooking."

"Yeah you should, we might need our energy later." After staring at her ceiling for about an hour last night, Anna felt certain she wouldn't be making them wait any longer.

Robert leaned in and gave her one more kiss then turned and started cooking again.

"I got a text from Tiff, they have a few stops to make this morning so we shouldn't expect them until around noon."

'Is there anything else we need to do before they get here?"

Anna opened her fridge and looked at what was there. "We should go down to the market after we eat. Pick up a few things I'm low on, then I think we'll be all ready."

Anna loved that she and Robert had gotten so much time alone together. Yes, Tiff, Sean and Annie would be here any time and that will be exciting and fun and amazing, all of them together again. That didn't make what's been happening between her and Robert any less special.

Time was what she had needed. Her anger had been intense when she had first found out Robert was actually alive but that had quickly changed when she saw him. When he told her what all he had been through. What he knew about what had happened to her. She felt lost, cheated, betrayed, mostly she had felt sadness.

She looked over at Robert who had just put the centrepiece he insisted on getting on the table. The beautiful red poinsettias looked amazing and really made it feel like Christmas. Having him here was what was actually making this so perfect.

Unless she was wrong he was letting her decide how fast they should happen. She hadn't invited him here hoping they would get back together but she also knew there was a good chance that would happen if they were alone for any length of time together.

Robert had said he picked up something he wanted to wrap, she smiled as he walked back over to her room then come back and placed a small gift under the tree. "All done?"

"I think I'm ready now," he said as walked over to join her in the kitchen. He put his hands on her hips. "I am very glad you invited me." He leaned in and kissed her tenderly. "This is where I should be this year."

"I agree, our guests will be here soon and I think I need a little more candy before they get here," Anna said smile at him then he leaned in. Kissing her passionately. They were both breathing heavily when the kiss ended. "Mmm, that's what I needed." With her arms still around him, she put her head against his chest, "I'm very glad you're here this year too."

Before Robert could say anything else there was a knock at the door. Anna smiled, stepping out of the embrace, "That will be our guests," she said excitedly. Anna took his hand and they went to answer the door together. When she opened the door they were greeted by three smiling faces and a pile of gifts. "Hello, Happy Christmas!"

"Merry Christmas," Robert said then took the gifts from Sean. He went and put them down then came back to greet them properly.

"Merry Christmas," Tiffany said as she hugged him tightly. "This is incredible. It is so great to see you and how wonderful is it that we are all here together?"

"It's perfect." Robert gave Annie a quick hug and said hello. As Anna took Tiff's arm and the ladies moved further into the living room Robert smiled at Sean then they hugged each other. "I am so happy you guys are here."

"We weren't going to miss this, especially when Anna said you were going to be here."'

Robert laughed a little to himself. When she had invited him, Anna had mentioned talking to Sean and Tiff the week before and they had agreed to come. Apparently, Anna still knew all she had to do was ask him and he'd be here.

"This is exactly where I needed to be this year." Robert put his hand on Sean's back then they went and joined the others.

Anna offered everyone drinks and once they were all settled they started talking. Getting caught up with each other, talking about their year, joking around with each other. Before they knew it three hours had passed and everyone was starting to talk about dinner. Anna informed them it was already ordered and due to arrive at six.

"Well if we have time, I would love to go check out that little shop we saw on the corner. Anna, you should come with me."

Anna checked the time. "We should get going then, I believe they are closing at four today."

"Grab your coat, let's go. I need to shop. Annie, you stay here with these two, keep them in line."

"I will, we don't want a repeat of last time."

"Sean broke the lamp, not me. That could have happened if I was there or not," Robert told them playfully.

"Yes, but Daddy wouldn't have been messing around if you weren't there Uncle Robert."

"Okay, you might be right." He looked over at Anna. "We will try not to break your stuff."

"Oh good, thanks. We won't be gone that long so try to control yourselves."

Robert walked over as she was putting on her coat, "We will try." Then he leaned in and kissed her, "Go have fun. I believe we are being separated so they can question us."

"I think you might be right." Then Anna turned to Tiffany. "Are you ready?"

Tiff was grinning back at her, "Yes, I am. We have so much to talk about, let's go." She grabbed Anna's arm and all but pulled her out of the apartment.

Robert turned when he heard Sean laughing. He was sitting with Annie on the couch. "Momma has a lot of questions for Aunt Anna. Are you in love again Uncle Robert?"

"What do you mean again?" Then he went and got himself and Sean another drink then joined them.

"Annie didn't seem to believe me when I told her you and Anna's love story is not a typical one. So is that kiss something you want to talk about?"

"I came here with no expectations but it didn't take long to figure out what we were both hoping would come from me being here. I don't think I'm leaving on the fifth any longer. We want to stick close for now and figure this out."

"I am very happy to hear that," Sean said as he took his drink. He glanced over at the stake of presents he had brought, the large manila envelope at the bottom of it all caught his eye. "I can just imagine how many questions Tiff has already asked Anna." Sean didn't feel the need to ask a lot of questions, for one Tiff will tell him what she finds out, two, he can tell that they are together.

"Are there any gifts for me under your tree, Uncle Robert?" At nine, presents were still a very big deal to her and Annie had been checking out the gifts since she had arrived.

"There are a few there for you," Robert told her with a grin. "If I've got this right. We are opening some gifts this evening after dinner so you only have to wait a few more hours."

"Okay," she said with a big smile.

When they were done eating and after a phone call where they all talked to Robin and wished her a Merry Christmas it was finally time to open gifts. Annie rushed over to the tree then looked at her mom. "Can I start?"

"That big one kind of behind the tree is for you," Anna said as she snuggled in beside Robert a little more. Tiffany had wanted to know what was going on between her and Robert. It had been nice talking about it. Anna happily answered all of them and it might have even helped her figure out what all she was feeling and what had happened in just a matter of days. They are a couple, they are working at getting back what they once had and she couldn't be happier about that.

After opening all her gifts, Annie was happily playing with her new handheld game wearing the dress Anna had bought her. Sean poured them all another drink then went and picked up the manila envelope that was still by the tree before joining them. "I have something here, it's not actually anything to do with Christmas but it is important."

"What is this?" Robert asked as Sean started to open it.

He pulled out a small envelope, then a larger one. "I didn't know what to think when I received this stuff. I got a letter as well explaining what all this is and that I should be the one to deal with it now."

"Should we be worried?" Anna asked.

"No, this isn't anything bad."

"Alright, good." Both Anna and Robert sat forward, now very interested in what Sean had to show them.

"I received all of this a little over a month ago." Sean handed the smaller envelope to Robert. "That's for you."

"Alright." Robert took it then tore it open then pulled out a letter.

My dearest Robert,

I am sure you don't really care what I have to tell you or what I have been up to but I have one last surprise for you, dear. Like I had told you earlier this year, yes our marriage has been dissolved and you are no longer connected to me in any way. I filed the divorce papers a little differently than you had expected me to though. I had been declared dead for five years by the time we bumped into each other in New York. I was living under an assumed name so there was no way for you to know I was alive. In 1992 I had my attorney file the divorce papers to reflect that.

I didn't even know about this loophole. I guess it never occurred to me how many times people have faked their deaths for some reason or another. Oh, that sounds so silly even as I write this, we've all played dead but that's beside the point. Sorry, what I am trying to tell you is that because I faked my death and hid that fact for so long our marriage was no longer legal when you married Anna. I filed the papers to correct an oversight. If I hadn't I would have been facing fraud charges.

What I'm telling you is to prevent myself from more legal problems I believe also did you and Anna a huge favour. I witnessed something amazing when we were in the Markuum Islands. Something I will never understand. You and Anna have something special so don't waste what I am about to tell you.

You are a married man. When you got married in 1991 that is the legal marriage on the books. I know you believed that marriage was not valid but it is. You and Anna are still married. I could not in good conscience keep this from you any longer.

Holly

Robert sat staring at the paper in his hand. "Have you confirmed this?"

"Yes," Sean answered. "All the paperwork to verify it is in that other package. She sent me a letter with all this other stuff in a small box. It all appears to be true, it's legal."

"What's true?" Anna asked as she took the letter from his hand.

"Yeah, here," he said, handing it over. "You read this, I want to see what's in that other envelope."

Anna read as Robert started pulling papers out. Her face, a blank slate as she read it over again. Then she looked up at Sean, then Tiffany who was smiling ecstatically. She turned to Robert who was still flipping through the papers in his hand. His expression gave nothing away either. Anna's mind was spinning after reading Holly's letter. She had heard Sean confirm that it's true.

Robert handed her the papers he had then stood up. "Excuse me, I'll be right back."

"Oh." Anna watched him walk away then looked at her guests, they all looked as confused as she felt.

When Robert walked back into the room Anna could tell he had something small in his hand but couldn't see it. When he knelt down in front of her she put her hands to her face. "These have been in my duffle bag for far too long. I never stopped thinking of you as my wife. These belong on your hand, not in this box." Then he opened the ring box. All three of their rings were inside.

Anna reached in and picked up his wedding band. Then she held out her hand, "I believe you are the one that should put those where they belong." She slid off the couch and kneeled in front of him.

Robert smiled then took the rings out, "I love you." It came out just above a whisper. "Anna Scorpio." Then he lifted her hand to his lips, kissing it.

Her breath caught for a moment as a tear rolled down her cheek. "Give me your hand." Anna then slid his ring back onto his finger. "I love you," lift his hand to her lips, selling their bond with a kiss. "Robert Scorpio."

Holding each other's hands, while still on their knees, they smiled then kissed each other lovingly. Then they just held each other.

Sean looked over at his wife and daughter, they were both smiling brightly. "I told you this was a good thing."

Tiffany had been worried about this ever since she had found out Robert and Anna were still married and she had told Sean that several times. What if they didn't want to be married, what if they didn't still feel the same? Sean had known her concerns were unfounded but also knew Tiffany would worry until she had concrete proof she didn't need to.

"We had to know for sure, Daddy." That made both her parents laugh.

"I guess you did," he agreed with a grin. They knew Robert and Anna were whispering to each other but knew it was private. "I know them a little better than you two do, that's why I knew they would be happy about this."

"Annie, it wasn't that I didn't think they would be happy. They've both been through a lot and I mean a lot! I love them so much and only want them to be happy. I was nervous for them."

Annie nodded, she thought it was pretty cool she had just watched two people find out they are married. It felt like some kind of Christmas miracle or something. Two people that according to both her parents belong together and should still be married, are and seem pretty happy about as far as she could tell. They still hadn't let go of the other one. Annie shrugged then turned back to her new game pretty sure the exciting part was over.

"Good luck getting rid of me now," Robert said as he and Anna started to stand up.

"Extreme measures were needed in the past to make that happen. I never want anything like that to happen again." Anna ran her fingers through his hair, just above his ear. "I never want to lose you again."

"I'm not going anywhere." He kissed her tenderly then finally turned back to their friends, an arm still around the other. Neither of them could wipe the silly grins off their faces.

"I take it, Christmas just got a lot better."

"Everything just got a lot better," Anna said as she put her other hand on Robert's chest. "We have to tell Robin."

"Let's wait until tomorrow. I don't want to spend a bunch of time on the phone right now."

Anna looked up at Robert, he was right, she didn't think she did either. "I do feel like celebrating a lot more. Sean, you better start pouring more drinks, you are officially at a Scorpio party."

Robert's face lit up, "And we know how to party!"

The energy in the room had even changed now. Everyone was truly happy, there was nothing that could make this night better. Sean lifted his glass after they all had champagne, he had brought a bottle exactly for this reason. "I just want to tell you. I could not be happier for you both. I know what the last fifteen years put you both through. You both came and talked to us. Tiff and I knew you both still loved each other. Now being here to let you know that you are indeed still husband and wife. I feel truly grateful to have been a part of this. Congratulations and ah good luck with this guy in the future," Sean added with a smirk.

"I don't need luck, patience on the other hand," Anna said with a giggle.

"Yes, that would help," Robert added and they all started laughing.

The rest of the evening passed with everyone in high spirits. When it was time to get Annie back to their hotel they said their goodbyes and made plans to get together on Boxing Day.

After they left Robert and Anna tidied up and when they were done Anna turned to Robert. She held out her hand and smiled. "I think it's time we get to bed as well."

Robert grinned, "Oh?" Then he took her hand.

"Yeah, we should get to bed early so Santa can come."

"Right, Santa," he said, trying to keep from grinning too much.

Anna turned and ran her hand up his chest, and looked at him seductively, "You don't think I'm going to make my husband sleep on the couch do you?"

"You did last night."

Anna smiled, "I didn't make you sleep there last night."

This time it was Robert that laughed, she had a point. "I never want to sleep on our couch again."

"You won't have to." Anna kissed him passionately. As the kiss intensified they started pulling at each other's clothes. Once his shirt was open Anna leaned back as her hand ran down his bare chest. "Let's move this to the bedroom. You still have some unwrapping to do." Anna stepped towards her bedroom door. Then she turned back, "What are you waiting for, Christmas?"

Robert pretended to check his watch. "Oh look, it's tomorrow. Merry Christmas!"

Walking over to Anna he swept her up into his arms then carried her into the bedroom. They had a lot of time to make up for and they were done waiting.

Happy Holidays!
