Chapter 1
"Pika Pi"
Pikachu made Ash snap out of his thoughts, every single one of them being about Serena. He looked around. Kanto, it was. He and his best friend, Pikachu, found Professor Oak in the airport, waving at them with his never aging smile. Suddenly Ash's eyes drifted towards to the figure beside the professor. Ash rushed towards them grinning in delight.
"Gary!" he exclaimed in delight. It has been long since he met his first rival and best friend. Last time he had heard, Gary had decided to research pokemons like his grandfather. Beside him stood his ever-trusting pokemon, Blastoise.
"Ayo Ash! Long time no see. You finally became a champion huh. It was about time you became one." Gary said, internally proud of his friend. They fist bumped while Professor Oak stood, smiling.
"Congratulations Ash. Your mom was so proud that she started crying in happiness. Gary and I spent an hour consoling her." They all laughed.
Gary stroked Pikachu and said, "You sure have become a better and stronger trainer. Although you aren't half as good as me." Ash grinned. "Let's battle to see then." Professor Oak facepalmed while they laughed. It was a pleasant meet up and Ash was distracted from his thoughts for a while.
They reached home to Delia, his proud mom, who was preparing their favorite dishes.
Although she didn't say anything, Delia noticed something different about her son, who was now a champion.
She went up to him after the meal.
"Ash?"
"Yes mom?", he replied, still submerged in the ocean of Serena's thoughts.
"Is everything okay, son? You won the Kalos league, why don't you seem happy?"
"I am happy, mom. It was my dream. The first step to become a Pokemon master. How can I not be happy?", Ash said, still not believing his words in that unnatural tone.
"I am so proud of you, Ash. But listen to me. Life is not just about battles. You need to live your life too. You already are a champion. What next? I know there's something going on in your mind right now. No matter how much you try not to express, I just know it. All I can say is, leave no regrets. Life is too short to regret, son. Whatever you are worried about right now, just do it. You know what you want. Don't wait till it's too late."
"Oh, I know that, Mom. I am going to Professor Oak's lab. Bye.", the recently become Kalos league champion abruptly ended the conversation, thinking deeper about what his mom said.
"Don't wait till it's too late"
When will it be too late? What is it? Why was he behaving like this? What next?
All these thoughts, battling each other, stumbling upon one another, in the head of a 15-year-old Ash.
