Thank you so much for the amazing response to the first chapter! I didn't think it would do that well. I appreciate every single review so so much! xx
Info:
Summary: After 4 years of homeschooling, Isabella Lily-Marie Snape, daughter of Severus Snape and Lily Potter (nee Evans), finally joins Hogwarts in her 5th Year. She is reunited with her half-brother, the famous Harry James Potter, after almost 13 years apart. She must earn the trust of Harry, who is unbeknownst to her existence, while struggling with the prejudices of being a Slytherin and the daughter of Snape.
Timeline: Please note my timeline is a bit off but this is the world of fanfiction so just let it happen. Bella was born on Friday 13th June 1980, and Harry was born 31 July 1981. I just needed Bella's birthday on a Friday the 13th, and she needs to be older than Harry but somehow they are still in the same academic year, so let's just make this work. Pretend Harry started a year early. Also, this Bella is most definitely a Gemini :P
Voldemort's attack date stays the same - 31 October 1981. Harry and Bella were last together in early 1982.
Pairing: Bella x Draco; Bella x Alice (later)
Disclaimer: I own nothing.
Chapter 2: The Sorting Ceremony
Bella P.O.V
I was late.
The sorting ceremony had already begun, but I had just arrived on the castle grounds. I know father will be upset with me. Instead of taking the train, I decided to use the floo network to his office. But of course, I managed to get lost. As soon as I found my way, I just dumped my bags in Sev's office and started running towards the Great Hall, trying my best to remember the directions Draco had given me. Mostly I just followed the smell of food, and sound of children clapping.
I stumbled into the great hall just as Professor McGonagall was about to call the next student for sorting. The noise of the doors creaking open caused every student and member of staff in the hall to turn their heads and look at me. The entire hall went silent. I blushed bright red in embarrassment. I probably looked like a mess. I had floo powder all over my robes, which I was not even wearing properly as I was not wearing my school uniform under. Instead I was wearing super short high-waisted black shorts with white sneakers and a simple green tank top under my open robes. It was only now that I realised, I had forgotten to change.
Both McGonagall and Snape gave me a reprimanding look, while I noticed Dumbledore slightly grinning at me with a twinkle in his eyes. I noticed a woman dressed in bright pink at the staff table looking at me furiously. All the students were looking at me confused and curious.
"Well, it seems your timing is impeccable as it is now your turn to get sorted." McGonagall said sarcastically as she stared down at me. She then called my name out loud and clearly, "Miss Isabella Lily-Marie Snape."
Suddenly students gasped and started whispering to each other. I took a deep breath before walking between the tables to the stool in the front.
"You don't think…"
"Snape? As in Professor Snape?"
"Could they be related?"
"Who would have a child with Snape?!"
"Poor thing. He must be awful to her."
I tried to block out the student's comments as I walked forward. It seems my father has a less than pleasant reputation amongst the students. Can't say I am surprised.
I finally arrived at the front of the hall and McGonagall gestured for me to sit on the stool, facing towards the students. I did a quick glance over the tables. I noticed my half-brother, Harry Potter, sitting at the Gryffindor table. I smiled at him, but he did not seem to notice as his focus was on the staff table.
I then felt McGonagall place the sorting hat on my head.
Ahh… we have been waiting for you… the bastard child of Lily Evans and Severus Snape… what an odd mix of character….
I tried not to visibly flinch at the words I was hearing from the hat. I tried to tune the hat out, only hearing parts.
Brave…. talented… ambitious... and clearly oh so stubborn… work hard and you will achieve great things one day…
"SLYTHERIN!" the hat finally bellowed out.
The Slytherin table started cheering loudly. I looked back at my father who was no longer looking upset, but rather smiling proudly while he clapped. I smiled back at him before getting up and making my way towards the Slytherin table. I immediately noticed Draco – his platinum blonde hair stuck out in the crowd. He moved aside to make some space for me between him and some other girl – she looked upset by this, but he did not seem to care or even notice.
I sat down and immediately pulled Draco into a hug. He stiffened up and didn't hug me back immediately. I noticed a few people staring but I chose to ignore them. The sorting ceremony was continuing with some more transfer kids, a new family of 5, but I did not care about that.
Still hugging him, I looked up at Draco from underneath my eyelashes.
"hey", I said smiling up at him.
He looked down at me with his beautiful silver-grey eyes. I could see he was trying not to smile but failing miserably.
"hey," he simply responded with a half-hug, his eyes darting around us.
I scoffed and rolled my eyes as I let go of him. I could feel the girl next to me glaring furiously. I still did not know who she was, and I did not care to know. Later I would find out her name is Pansy Parkinson and she absolutely sucks.
Finally, after the sorting ceremony was finished, Dumbledore gave the welcome address, the pink lady interrupted him with some ministry stuff, and then the feast began. After the feast was done, we were dismissed to our dormitories. I quickly got up, letting Draco know I would join him soon. I swiftly made my way out the great hall and found Harry as he was walking out. I stopped him just outside the entrance.
"Harry!" I called out to him.
He turned around and looked at me confused.
I gave him a wide smile before pulling him into a hug.
He immediately stiffened so I pulled back.
"I'm so sorry. It's just been so long; I couldn't help myself." I quickly apologised as my face turned a deep red.
There were a few people passing by who gave weird looks, but I mostly ignored them.
"I'm sorry…" Harry started, "but do I know you?"
My heart sank.
"Y-you're… you're joking, right?" I said in shock, already feeling my eyes start to tear up.
Harry just looked back at me confused. He was about to respond when suddenly his eyes got wide with fear. I stared back at him confused.
"Isabella!" I heard my father's voice bellow from behind me.
Fuck. I turned around slowly to face him.
"Come with me," he said sternly before turning around and walking swiftly.
I turned back around to quickly say bye to Harry, but he had already disappeared.
Disappointed, I followed after my father.
The entire walk to Sev's office, my mind was spiralling. I kept thinking about my interaction with Harry. It was too odd. How could he not recognise who I was? Obviously, I do not expect him to physically recognise me – after all, we have not seen each other since the incident… Harry was only three months old, and I was approaching a year and a half. We were to young to remember anything beyond a bright flash of green. But I would assume Harry has seen pictures of me, as I have of him. Plus, you would think he would recognise my name. Unless…
Does Harry not know about me?
So, what do you think? Let me know in a review!
This chapter was a bit shorter than the previous one, so sorry about that! But I think I'm gonna stick to around this length for future chapters. Hope that's okay.
Next chapter is some Draco x Bella...
