Nova looked at herself in the mirror.

She never thought she'd be doing this. Doing normal things. She thought Ace would have a hold on her forever.

But he's dead, and she's getting married.

Adrian asked her for her hand about a year ago, and though he was nervous and admittedly had second thoughts, she accepted.

Now, she was glad she did. She couldn't imagine a life without him.

But then again, she was so afraid that if she blinked, that this would all turn out to be a dream and it would be over, and she would find herself in the dark tunnels she used to live with the other anarchists.

She was shaken back to the present by a concerned Ruby.

"Nova? You had a weird look on your face," Ruby said

Ruby and Oscar were engaged, but it's only been for a bit and they weren't even close to finishing up their wedding plans.

"I'm fine. I was just thinking," Nova replied as Danna rushed in and out. She was the designated messenger for Nova and Adrian, since it was bad luck for a groom to see his bride on the wedding day before the wedding. They even slept in separate rooms last night. Nova didn't believe in all that, but she humored him because she loved him.

Evie was circling the room in her crow form, trying to find Ruby's earring that she had dropped when she was getting ready. When Nova found out that Ruby had dropped her own earrings, Nova insisted on putting her earrings on herself.

Evie cawed, swooped down, and turned into a human and handed Ruby the earring.

"Great, thanks Evie," Ruby said, putting the earring on. "Having a bridesmaid wearing only one earring would be kind of weird."

"I'm not sure anybody would notice. They'd be too busy waiting for Nova," Danna said, appearing in the doorway.

"That's a good point," Ruby agreed.

"How is Adrian?" Nova asked.

"They're going to be a little late. They made the mistake of having Leroy pick up the Ring Bearer pillow and now it's burnt through from acid, so Adrian called his dads and they're looking for the one they used at their wedding."

"Ok, I know that sometimes Adrian and Oscar forget that Leroy has chemical powers, but you'd think Leroy would realize…" Ruby muttered.

"But other than that, we just need to finish your hair and we'll be all set," Danna said, grabbing a hair curler as Ruby stood on standby with rubber bands.

"Why can't we use ponytail holders?" Nova complained. "The rubber hurts."

"Yes, but they're less noticeable," Ruby replied.

Danna did Nova's hair in an elegant updo.

"You look beautiful," Ruby said.

"I'm sure if mom were here, she'd be so happy to see you getting married," Evie said. Evie didn't know much about their mom, but she knew that Nova wanted to hear it.

"Thanks, Evie. I think you're right."

Evie was still getting used to the name Evie, and Nova was the only person she let use it. Everyone else had to call her Maggie.

Evie gave Nova a quick hug.

Nova looked at herself once more.

It all seemed surreal. She's been through so much these last few years, and she finally gets her happy ending. After Ace died, everything in her life turned out good. Nova concluded that Ace was the one preventing all the good things, and now that he was gone, Nova was finally getting all the good things she missed out on before.

Ruby put a hand on Nova's shoulder.

"Nova, I don't think I tell you this enough, but you're like the sister I never had. You and Danna both. I love you both."

Nova smiled.

"Ruby, don't make me cry," Nova said, though both girls knew that it would take a lot more for Nova to cry.

Simon and Hugh rushed over with the ring bearer pillow from their wedding and Oscar put the rings on and handed it to the ring bearer, which was a young kid from the orphanage who was friends with Evie who Nova took a liking to. His twin sister was the flower girl. Adrian stood at the altar, waiting for his bride.

The music started and first the bridesmaid and groomsmen began walking down the aisle. The flower girl followed, and then the ring bearer.

Then, the wedding march began playing and Nova appeared.

Adrian gasped at how beautiful she looked.

Her dark hair was pinned up in a bun. Her white dress flowed just the right amount, making it look like Nova was walking on air. Her veil didn't cover her face but instead flowed behind her. The bouquet in her hands was filled with bright flowers.

She began walking down the aisle and time seemed to stand still. Adrian wondered how he got so lucky to be able to share the rest of his life with such a wonderful and amazing woman.

Nova finally arrived at the altar. Adrian immediately grabbed her hands.

"The bride and groom wrote their own vows," The officiator announced.

Adrian went first.

"Nova, the first time I saw you at the trials, I immediately saw your potential as a renegade, but if someone told me that day that I would end up marrying you, I would have called them crazy. But then here we are. We have been through a lot together. I was almost killed. But if I had the chance, I wouldn't have changed it one bit. My love for you overcomes everything, and it will continue to overcome everything. I'm so glad that you chose me to become your forever person. I love you."

Nova still didn't cry, but Adrian saw pure love in her eyes and he knew that she felt the same way for him the way he felt about her.

Then, Nova went.

"Adrian, look at how far we have come! I can't imagine spending the rest of my life without you by my side. You are my other half. You are part of my heart. Without you, I'm not whole. We're not perfect. We still fight. But our love is bigger than any disagreement. I can't wait to spend the rest of my life with you. When Ace asked me to join your team, I did it. But I had no idea I would catch feelings for you along the way, which my mission must more difficult. But I notice now that Ace was holding me back from everything good in my life. And now that's gone, I can finally be happy. I love you, Adrian. More than anything in this world."

Nova had stopped reading off of the note card she had written at some point and was now speaking from the heart.

The officiator married them, but they barely even listened. They gazed into each other's eyes and knew that they were so in love and ready to wake up to each other every morning. To share coffee at the table. To spend their day watching corny Christmas movies. To go to sleep next to each other every night.

And both of them were so ready for it.

Author's Note:

The Christmas season always makes me super sappy.

If you have been keeping up with my announcements, you know that my mom tested positive for covid, and since I still live with her, I had to quarantine, which is a major bummer. But I decided to write some chapters. But since it's Christmas break, I would be able to do that anyway. Expect a Christmas chapter later this month.

And to any Jewish readers – I'm sorry, I don't know enough about Hannukah to write about it :( Christmas is all I know

Anyway, I don't really like this one that much, but it's ok, I guess. It took me awhile to get back into the swing of fanfiction, as I have spent this last semester writing grant proposals and research papers, such is the life of a social work student.

Anyway, I hope you enjoy this sappy wholesome content.

Until next time,
