It wasn't easy having siblings. That was for sure.
No matter what happened between them, something always went wrong. Arguments over nothing, and later, an unspoken apology. A competition that started without prompting and never ended.
Frankly, Sasuke thought he could a lot better without playing 'brother' to anyone.
His own blood sibling had, after all, killed any known family he'd had, leaving him to grow up on his own, anger and revenge to consume him. If that was what family did to each other, Sasuke preferred to do without.
Only now, when he thought he'd had everything under control, someone had come along and changed that. Made it so that he had to slip into the role of 'brother' again. Only this time, he was the older, more responsible one.
It didn't make any sense, really, his need to one-up the one who'd barged into his life. His need to both protect and despise the loud mouthed moron who couldn't seem to stop progressing into something better.
Then that last fight had occurred and Sasuke knew what he'd been denying all along. That they were 'brothers', whether they liked it or not. And they would remain that way, for the rest of their lives. It was both comforting and infuriating.
Once again, rolls reversed. Sasuke was the betrayer. It was almost ironic.
But instead of leaving well enough alone or even swearing revenge, his 'brother' had vowed to save him. Something Sasuke hadn't done when his blood-brother had turned his back. He thought it was useless something futile that wouldn't be accomplished in either case. Determination and pure evil were two different things, but neither let go once they had latched onto a person's heart. Sasuke knew that.
Unfortunately, his 'brother' didn't. The fool was going to try to save him until he gave in or died. It was sad, that he'd chosen to die rather than be saved. He had only one goal in life, it wasn't fair to keep going, torturing others with his betrayal when, if, they ever saw him again. It was better that way and a whole lot easier.
In time, he'd learn to throw away his feelings, and he wouldn't feel the guilt that had settled into the deep recesses of his heart. Maybe he could even get his 'brother' to give up, so he didn't waste his life trying to do something that wasn't going be accomplished. The guy already had one impossible dream. No need for him to have another.
Sasuke wasn't going to go back, he couldn't, even he'd wanted to. Traitors were killed, simple as that. After his goal was met his body would be handed over to that snake and that would be the end. It was set in stone and couldn't be changed for anything.
It was sad his brother didn't know that.
