Chapter 1: When Life Gives You Death, You Make it Work

Things have been getting tougher by the month. More villains, more criminals, more fighting for your life and having a target on your back, travelling throughout tons of other worlds you may have only dreamed existed. That's what being a ninja is like. Even though being a ninja is the toughest (and hardest) thing I've had to do, I'm happier here. I will never go back to that hellspace of a world. And I promised I'd protect my brother no matter what. I'm Galaxy Star (Ironic name, I know). And here's my story...

Tick...tick... tick...

The rhythmic ticking filled the silence. Every tick the clock made me feel like the time was moving slower.

Arrrrrhgg, just this one math problem, then I'm done! Why is it have to be so hard!?!?

I thought as I stared hopelessly at the page on the large round table. Maybe I was being a little dramatic. Math, once I actually memorized how to do it, was not hard, just tedious. A pencil tapped the desk repeatedly, as I tried to focus. This was my last math problem. Then I don't have anymore math homework. But of course, it was the toughest one. I had to be.

Why did this last problem have to be rotations?! Geometry was supposed to be easy!

I didn't mind that it was Geometry. Usually, I was good at that. But, of course, rotations were my downfall in the subject. But other that the typical day to day struggles, Freshman year of highschool wasn't actually as hard as I had feared.

The pencil tapping, however, was starting to make me lose my focus.

"I'm sorry. Can you stop the tapping? I can't focus." I said to my friend, turning my head towards her. It was Lily, my best friend. Even though I had only known her for barely a (school) year, she was the only student that I knew well enough. A small frown was fixed firmly on her face in focused thought at her own paper, until she looked up.

"Sorry. These math problems are hard. I..didn't notice I was being loud." She said with a frustrated sigh.

"It's okay." I replied. "They are for me too. I'm stuck on this last problem."

"I can try and help?" She asked, her voice turning more chipper, the frown being replaced by a smile.

"Sure. I have no clue how this works. Thanks!" Lily helped me with my math problem, showing me how to do it step-by-step (Again). Finally, I finished, and I glanced at the clock.

3:49. I didn't want my homework to take that long...

Me and Lily packed our school bags and walked together in the mostly empty hallway. Only a few other students were here, and they tended to ignore us, staring at their phones or talking to their friends.

"So, what are you doing this weekend?" Lily said, fidgiting with her backpack straps.

"I'm probably gonna do some drawing and some reading, or play a bit of Minecraft. I haven't joined the SMP in a while." I replied. I was almost done with my homework for the week, so I'd have a lot of time on the weekend to play around, as usual. This week had been strangely busy though, and I was happy to finally get a breather. Also, it seemed as if I hadn't visited my Minecraft world in ages. I would love to visit the SMP again. We took a left, where the hallway had a bunch of lockers. My locker was 89, Lily's was 87. I packed everything in my backpack, when I heard a voice from behind me, nearly spooking me.

"Galaxy, are you ready to go?" My mom asked, my brother, Jake, right behind her.

"What are you doing here? I thought you usually waited outside in the car."

"I wanted to talk to your teachers. They said you have been doing better than most students."

That honestly sounded pretty accurate. I'm not bragging (I really am not), but most students in highschool just play on their phones, don't pay attention, or at least have one F. (Or a combination of the above.)

"Thats great! This week has been really busy, so I'm glad to get a break. And I'm almost ready." I replied, turning back to my locker to finish.

"Hi Anne!" Lily said to my mom, whilst having a huge grin on her face, waving.

"Hi! How are you doing?"

"I'm doing great, thanks!" Lily said, finishing up her packing.

"Okay, I'm ready to go, mom!" I said as I hefted the heavy bag on my back. "See you on Monday Lil!"

"You too!" We gave each other a hug for the weekend. But as I did, I smelled something stuffy, something I immediately recognized since the the dryer incident a few months ago.

SMOKE!!

I thought in panic as the fire alarm went off. My history teacher, Mr. Hal rushed up to us.

"Everyone, out, quickly!!" He said, leading us out the front door. The school quickly, to my horror, filled with smoke, heat and flames, quicker than it should have.

That isn't natural...fire should NOT be that fast...

Once we made it to the front door, we were panicked to find out that it had been completely covered in flames, along with several broken beams from the ceiling. We definitely weren't going through that door. Not even close.

"This way!!" Our teacher coughed, turning and going in another direction. The smoke felt like it was burning my lungs, I coughed, and the heat was bothering me. My throat started to feel raw.

We followed the teacher and tried to find an emergency exit. We found one, but it was covered with fire as well. We ran down a few halls, having to take multiple different routes. The sweat and heat on my forehead was getting unbearable.

Out of nowhere, a blast of flames shot out of one of the class windows, nearly flinging searing heat and glass in my direction. I leapt backwards, feeling a searing pain on my leg, and as soon as I opened by eyes, which hurt, I noticed the others weren't anywhere near where I was.

Oh shoot. Where the heck is everyone?!?

I started to panic. I ran through the hallways, trying to find anything, anywhere, for me to escape the heat and the smoke.

No, no, no, no, no. I can't be stuck in here.

"GALAXY!!" I heard my little brother cry. A wave of panic shot through me. (Not like I was already panicked)

"IM *cough* COMING!" I yelled as I dodged flames and smoke, staying as low to the ground as possible as I ran. I felt heat and pain in my leg that made it all the more difficult to run. I glanced at it and noticed that it had gotten burned by a blast of fire.

No! I can't stop now...

I thought desperately as I winced in pain and moved on. I finally made it to my brother as I stumbled. I froze and stared, my heart dropping to my feet. I wave of horror came like a punch to the stomach as I saw that I was too late. My brother, mom, teacher, and Lily, were dead. Lying there in a pool of blood. Fire crackled around, and a bloodstained dagger was on the ground next to them, abandoned.

I backed away in pure terror as hot tears streamed down my cheeks.

No! no, NO! Where are the firefighters!?! Why haven't they come yet?!? Why is my family all stabbed?! Who stabbed them?!

I asked myself. I heard a loud crack, and saw a wooden bean fall near my family as I leaped back. I needed to find a way out of here, and NOW. I turned and bolted.

RUN GALAXY RUN!! GET OUT NOW!!

I shouted to myself mentally. My heart pounded in my chest, as I barely dodged a flaming wooden beam falling to the ground. The building began falling apart as I ran/stumbled to get myself out of there. Every breath I took felt like I had fire in my lungs. Tears from the smoke and from my panic ran down my cheeks. I narrowly missed another blast of fire which singed the edges of my shirt.

I stumbled, collapsing to the floor, and realizing that the fire was closing in. I tried to get up, a task in which I failed. I didn't have anymore energy left.

I..is this how I die? I..I can't die...please...no.

I thought, filled with terror. Just as I was about to give up, I heard a swooshing noise. I lifted my eyes up to see a purple portaly...thing in front of me. I couldn't tell if it was real or not, but I decided to try.

That-that could be my way out of here...

I summoned all the energy I had left. I reached one arm forward, then another. Over and over I reached forward, bit by bit. I finally slipped through the portal, and before I realized it, everything went black.

4:15

I slowly opened my eyes, the blur of surrounding objects causing me to shut my eyes again from the bright sun.

Nnnngg, why does my head feel like it was hit with a semi truck!?! Am I dead?

I asked myself. I slowly sat up, even though my body ached. My head screamed at me to stay in a lying position, but I pushed myself up regardless. I put my hand to my forehead. I didn't feel heat around me, which was a good thing. In fact, it was a little chilly. I still felt pain in my leg though, which told me I was definitely not dead. I put my hand to the wound and winced. I looked at it and saw a nasty burn wound. It stung.

Yea, I need to get that checked out...

I noticed my surroundings for the first time. The world around me was a bit more cartoony than usual. Still 3D, but with more saturated, solid colors than I was used to. I was in an alley between two buildings. A street lay right in front of me. Cars, bikes, buses, and other vehicles passed as people walked by and chatted with one another. They all looked cartoony, in a way. I slowly stood up, despite my legs arguing with me in pain.

People walked in and out of shops, chatted on phones, and walked their dogs. I glanced to my right and I noticed a group of crates beside me, with words stamped In faint red ink on the sides. But they were in a completely different language. It seemed familiar though...

Where have I seen a language like this before?

I slowly kneeled down and stared at it for several minutes, trying to figure out why it looked so familiar to me.

It's definitely not Spanish or anything... It looks more similar to Chinese or Japanese, but not. These symbols seem familiar, and I don't know any Japanese or Chinese... wait a second...

It suddenly hit me. The letters WERE familiar. It was...Ninjargon?! I knew four of the letters: A, G, L, and Y. The stamp on the crate read "Ninjago City". (At least, estimating from the letters I knew and Thier placement.)

I'm in Lego Ninjago?!? But...how? That's... i-impossible... It's just a TV show. How in the world is it...real?

I was really here. This really was Ninjago. Or Ninjago City to be more specific.

Is-is this a dream??

I asked myself. Probably not. I rubbed my eyes, wondering if I opened them again, would everything disappear. Nothing happened. The fire felt so real. And, if the fire part WAS, in fact, fake, the burn on my leg shouldn't be here. As if it happened by memory, I realized that the burn hurt a lot more than it did before.

I...think that's because I'm all out of adrenaline...

Running, and the feeling of pure fear erased the pain somewhat, but now, unfortunately, it was catching up with itself, the adrenaline fading. But, still, I couldn't help but think; the multiverse was nothing short of REAL.

Does that mean other worlds exist too?!?

I asked myself. It was entirely possible, unless Earth was one of the 16 Realms. I sighed and caught my breath for several moments as I kept pressure on the burn.

I hissed in pain. I hated getting burn wounds. I can deal with a small bleeding scratch from a cat (multiple, for that matter), but not a burn. Even if it was super minor.

My head snapped up, and I froze as I heard a voice behind me.

"So, you've survived. This might actually prove to be a challenge..." Said a sly and cunning voice said that shook me to my core.

Who is...no...no...

I thought as I came to the sudden realization that that fire had not been an accident, and maybe even the car crash that resulted in my dad's death as well. That my family was killed by him. I noticed I was trembling, and I did everything I could to hide it.

I turned around slowly to see a man dressed in complete black (spare a few grey accents). His hair, at least what I could see of it, was jet black. His irises were dark red (Cliche, I know. He was the definition of a Gary Stu).

He had a scar on his left cheek. His fingers had white bandages around them, more as a fashion accessory than having an actual function (I at least assumed). He held a sword with a small pattern in the blade. He had a sheathe for the blade and had a smaller one for a dagger. He had a black cape with grey accents. He looked like an assassin, albeit very showy, and he probably was. A crooked grin had appeared on his face as he smirked. He drew his sword and started forward.

Galaxy, I think now might be the best time to get your butt out of here!

I spun on my heels and ran out of the alley, dodging people and pets on the sidewalk. I dashed as fast as my legs would allow, considering the circumstances.

You couldn't have bothered to tell me that earlier conscience, like when I HAD SEVERAL MOMENTS TO MYSELF!?!

I screamed internally. I could hear his heavy footfalls behind me, chasing me as several people gaped at the girl running from a psycho looking man. I dashed to the left, taking another street and I sprinted into an alleyway that lead into yet another street. I looked over my shoulder and realized he was catching up. I knew I wouldn't be able to keep the pace for long, if my injuries had anything to say about it.

I need to outsmart him. There's no chance of out running or out fighting this guy.

I purposely knocked over a bunch of crates I saw to one side (which were everywhere), and switched directions multiple times, moving into small spaces trying to lose this maniac.

Ninja, this might be the best time to make an appearance!!

I thought as I felt my legs starting to slow. My endurance was horrible, if PE was anything to go by. The taste of copper came in my throat and chest, the same way it does when you've ran for too long. I looked behind me and I instantly regretted it. He was roughly ten feet behind me, maybe less.

"There's no where left to hide. You can't be stupid enough to not know that. All my targets run, and lose. You aren't any different. I'm not failing my job."

Why the heck do you wanna kill me anyways?! I'm not a threat to you!!

I took two lefts, and then a right. I nearly skidded to a stop as immediately, my heart sunk. There was a wall in front of me. And no other exits. I had blocked myself in.

Shoot!

Panic started to rise in my chest. My legs felt like Jell-O, and the burn on my leg was not helping. Instantly, I felt a heavy weight slam me into the ground. I opened my eyes to see dark red ones staring back at me. My heart pounded against my chest as I stared at him with pure terror.

For a split second, I thought I saw shadows up above in the rooftops, but they disappeared as quickly as they had appeared.

"You know, you got a good run." He said putting a dagger to my throat. "But I always win." He seemed awfully cocky for a quote on quote "professional".

He had one knee pressed to my stomach, cutting off part of my oxygen supply. He had me completely pinned. I stared in terror at the dagger.

"Leave her alone. Or, trust me, we will have a problem." A familiar voice echoed in the alley. I shifted my head (only a little so the knife wouldn't hurt me) to see Lloyd standing right there, as the rest of the ninja landed behind him from the rooftops. I knew I had seen something. As I looked at them, I also caught how Jay and Kai were glaring at one another. They seemed to be all there, except...

All except Nya. And Lloyd looks older than he would have been when Nya wasn't the water ninja. Like, current season old. This must be present day, after Seabound. But, how long after?

"Well, well. If it isn't this world's heroes." The assassin said, earning a couple of confused glances from the ninja, specifically Kai and Jay, who had barely listened. "I think we should have a proper introduction. I'm Shadow, and I am a professional assassin and killer sent to kill this target for my client. One more step..." He made sure the knife was to my throat so I couldn't move and to emphasize his point, and my brain instantly snapped back to its terror filled state. "...then she's dead." He snorted, "She'll die anyways, but you couldn't do anything about it, even if you tried." Shadow said in a cocky tone. A smirk was drawn on his face, as it had the entire time, but this smirk looked especially sly. Almost in a 'come and get me, I dare you' way.

The ninja froze, not really sure what to do. It was clear that he wasn't lying. They moved, I was dead as a dodo bird. And they weren't risking it. Lloyd had a thoughtful look on his face as his eyes scanned the assassin, looking for an opportunity.

"Uhh- guys, what do we do?" Jay asked, swinging his lightning nunchucks around, almost lazily, as if he had no motivation. His voice also sounded emotionless. As if he were reading poorly from a script.

"We'll figure it out. Zane, can you find a possible plan?" Lloyd said.

"I ran multiple simulations, and I am 90% sure that all solutions are currently not going to work in this kind of situation." Zane replied, his blue eyes picking the villain apart in a stern glare.

Shadow applied more pressure to my stomach with one knee. He was slowly cutting off my ability to breathe. I almost panicked, but something popped into my head. Something I had learned to always do.

You should never panic in survival situations. Or you are definitely dead.

I watched situation. Slowly, it became clear that the ninja were stuck. If the moved or tried anything at all, I'd be dead before they took the first step. I wasn't getting saved anytime soon. Shadow had them in a stalemate.

Alright Gal, focus on what to do. Don't think about the knife, or the killer on top of you, just figure out a way out of this.

"Pixal, help me scan for all possible escape routes." Zane said.

I heard no reply, but I assumed that she and Zane were having a silent conversation.

I thought of all the movies, books, and TV shows I have seen and read, to find any possible way of escape. If a cartoon world was real, than some of the tricks and escape plans also must work, no matter how cliche they may be.

Come on brain, think!!

I thought through different fandoms I had been a part of, such as Hunger Games, Wings of Fire, My Little Pony, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, and more, until I found it. I had a plan.

I pretty much couldn't breathe anymore. I let my body relax and let myself fall limp as I closed my eyes. It took me everything not to breathe right then and there. I desperately hoped he wouldn't use the eyelash trick to see if I was faking or not. I noticed he loosened his grip on me, if only slightly. But it was enough.

Perfect. Now I can get out of this.

"You had better let her go, or else!" Kai yelled at Shadow.

"Not gonna happen, kids. Too late now, it would be torture to make her wait any longer." He said. Before he could hurt me with the knife, I summoned all the strength I had to send out a powerful kick, which sent him flying backwards. Fortunately, that got him off of me, if only a little bit, and gave the ninja an opportunity of attack. But unfortunately, the knife slid and hit my arm, creating a gash in my arm. I yelped and gasped for air, immediately pulling back to try and get away from the blade.

Just great, another injury to add to the pile. At this point, I might as well as throw up a sign that says 'kill me' on it!

I watched as the ninja took the opportunity and attacked, Kai and Jay slower than the others, but still fighting, both sides appearing evenly matched. I was leaned up against the brick wall, and even though I put as much pressure on the wound on my arm as possible, I felt blood seep between my fingers. I felt myself slowly loosing consciousness. My vision blurred and I slowly lost focus. Dots appeared in my vision l, and I knew I was gonna fall unconscious.

No. Stay awake till you're safe, till the ninja win...till you're safe...

But my brain and body wouldn't listen, as that was my last thought as I saw Lloyd's and Shadow's swords clang together in battle, and everything faded to black.

Author's Note: That's rewritten Chapter 1! It's similar to the original, but I changed several things, and improved a lot of scenes and dialogue. (I also did many grammar edits and changes, as I saw that many words had been misspelled). I hope that helps make this story a little better. And if this is your first time reading, than welcome! I'm glad you could read the better version first instead of the original, lol. Also, I changed the fainting scene to be a lil more realistic, considering I've nearly fallen unconscious, and it's not fun. At least I have experience now XD. ~Galaxy
