ZEDD
Sitting in my office and trying to focus somewhat on my work, I can't help but glance at the papers still on my desk from Thomas' earlier lessons. I still haven't seen Thomas since our argument this morning and I'm starting to worry. I take a small amount of comfort from the idea that he can reach me through the bond if he needs me. If he'll use the bond however is another matter though.
A sudden pop up on my computer pulls my attention from his work and tells me that the female has responded to my earlier message. I look it over briefly and then forward it to Pina's system. Before I can do more, there is a knock at the office door.
"Come."
The door opens and Dar pokes his head in. "I've found a supplier for the programs and electronics I was telling you about earlier and I've already placed the orders for the things he'll need, boss. And I thought I'd let you know, there's a storm coming."
For some reason I could never understand, Dar loves storms. When we have one, he'll go out and stay in it until he nearly makes himself ill. I know he's asking me to mind communications while he goes out, so I simply nod. In the blink of an eye, he's gone.
So here we are, Pina off doing her work, Dar playing out in the rain, and Thomas…
I reach out with my mind, surprised but pleased to find that Thomas is all right and working on moving his barricade so that I can at least sense him, even if I can determine nothing else. For a brief moment, I relax. Unfortunately, my respite is interrupted by another knock on my door.
"Come."
Pina this time. As she enters and takes a seat in front of my desk she takes a deep breath and I know something is coming that I very well won't like. "I need to talk to you about several things."
I pull paper and pen close by and nod at her to begin. "First of all, we may not need the records from Earth after all. I just scanned Tommy a few minutes ago and it appears that the drug we were fighting may be completely gone. That's the good news."
"All right." Bracing myself for what's to come, her next statement, I must admit doesn't take me that much by surprise.
"I lost my temper with Rita." Again, not that surprising, as it happens to me all the time. "I may have mentioned that he still holds powers." Oh no. "And I might have hung up on her." I can't help it. I start laughing. It isn't me doing it for a change. Though I do sober quickly as I recall the rest of what she said.
"What else did you tell her?"
"That he has improved since he's been here, I think the power has gone dormant and she didn't need to worry about it because we'd take care of him."
"Well, that's not going to happen. She's far too nosy to leave well enough alone."
She sighs. "I know. That's why I wanted to tell you."
"Well, forewarned and all that."
She nods and fidgets a little. "There is one more thing." This can't possibly be better than her hanging up on Rita. "I probably should mention that when you and Dar came into the infirmary, Tommy was hiding out in the bathroom."
Startled, I ask, "He was what?"
"When I went into the infirmary, he was there meditating. I decided not to disturb him, but after only a minute or so he suddenly got up and went into the bathroom. Before I could question it, you and Dar came in."
Okay, was not expecting that. Slowly, I speak. "So he heard everything?" Which might explain why he's suddenly let me in just a bit through our link now.
"I would assume so. It doesn't mean that you don't have to talk to him about it, though."
Now that's just annoying. "Yes, Mother."
She shudders. "Not even close. Anyway, after you two left, he came out of the bathroom and had another brief spell. When he came out of it, he informed me that he felt strange and let me scan him. As I mentioned, the scan revealed that the drugs appear to be gone. It also revealed that the power level is slightly higher than it was before."
"Which means?"
"It might be waking up. It might simply be gaining strength to wake up. I'm not sure yet since I have no real information to go on."
Suddenly, something tugs at the corner of my mind and I turn toward the door. Out of the corner of my eye, I see Pina do the same. We speak at the same time. Both knowing by the other's voice there is trouble.
"Thomas."
"Dar."
Both moving for the door I just hope we make it in time.
