Chapter 6

Waldorf Astoria, Conference room.

"I don't have to be professional, it's my company." He said before flicking his tongue against my lips.

I moaned and squirmed.

"Well you must not get anything done." I breathed out.

He smiled. "I've got plenty done but I think I'll have fun with you for a while first."

"I'm not a toy and I'm-"

"Engaged, yeah I know but I have a feeling it's not going to last."

I slapped him. I'm not sure why but I slapped him again.

I raised my hand to do it again but he caught my hand mid swing.

He frowned.

One would think this would make him finally somewhat unattractive but it only made him sexier.

The stubborn side of me wanted to piss him off to see what would happen.

More like my kitty wanted to see.

"The first one was a freebie, the second one amused me but if you think for one second I'm going to allow you to stand here and hit me then you're sadly mistaken." He said through gritted teeth.

This should not have been turning me on but alas my kitty hummed and my nipples puckered.

"Then stop telling me to end my relationship!"

He growled and took a step forward forcing me to hit the door. "If you cared about that relationship you wouldn't have come here."

"I made a mistake and will tell my-"

"You can say his name. Mark Dallas."

I froze. It's common knowledge but hearing his name made it real.

"Let me leave." I said lowly and he scuffed.

Surprisingly he moved away.

"No one will stop you, I'll have a messenger send over a request for Jackson to head the project." He replied.

I didn't budge. I should've walked away at that moment but something in his eyes held me in my spot.

"I don't know you and I'm sorry that you believe that you know me." I said softly.

"Is it that you don't remember me or that you need to forget what he did?"

Wait what?

Six Years Ago.

Before the Break.

"Hey babe! I'm home, sorry I was late. I had a long meeting but it'll only take me a few minutes to get ready."

Mark only looked at me before sighing. "You do realize we've had these reservations for weeks, right?"

"I know but I couldn't leave. It'll only take a few minutes." I replied.

Mark huffed. "This was a very important dinner and it's going to take us thirty minutes to get there! They won't hold our reservation!"

I looked at him shocked that he was acting this way because it wasn't like he couldn't call ahead to let them know.

"Mark, I said sorry and if you'd just let me-"

"You always do this, you always try to make excuses when deep down we both know you don't care."

"Woah, you need to calm down. Mark, what is really going on?" I asked and he rolled his eyes.

"Just hurry please." He said looking at his watch.

I didn't have the energy to ask again so I can upstairs and quickly changed out of my work clothes into my dress and heels. Thankfully, my hair was already done so I just touched up my makeup and added a little perfume before rushing downstairs.

"I'm ready." I said and Mark just glanced at me before nodding and walking out.

Gee thanks, you look great too.

It didn't get any better at the restaurant, his colleagues were there… it wasn't a date, this was a work thing. Based on what everyone else's significant others were wearing I overdid it slightly.

To my defense, I was the only one with an actual figure and the dress I'd picked out was more for Mark than other people.

It was a simple one shoulder ruched dress.

Simple is putting it light… it was red. Very red.

I should've know…

"Mercedes you're looking… quite lovely tonight."

Shit what was this bitch's name?

I smiled trying to figure out her name but was drawing a blank.

"Look at my girl trying to be modest. She does look lovely, Harmony." Mark said, wrapping his arm around my waist and holding me close.

"Thank you baby." I said and he kissed me gently.

I saw the eye roll from her. Which confused me because I rarely saw her or any of his damn colleagues because being around them was like watching paint dry.

Mark was in logistics and that was enough for me but every so often his colleagues would have dinner together.

The only issue is that I wasn't entirely sure why this one was so damn important.

We sat down and they all began talking about their day and whatever tasks they still needed to complete.

I tuned them out after the first thirty minutes. I could be eating a mountain of popcorn right now.

"Cedes."

"Huh? Sorry, what did you say?" I asked, trying not to look disinterested.

"They asked about your current project." Mark answered.

His tone was clipped.

"Oh, it's going great! We just partnered with B's company." I answered excitedly.

"And what exactly is it that you do and your little job?" Harmony asked and I felt my face.

I know it was saying everything I was about to say.

"If you must-"

"She's actually president of her division." Mark said before I could finish.

I looked at him angrily.

"Actually, I'm the regional director. It's the reason why I'm required to leave twice a month." I corrected and he rolled his eyes.

"So, what do you do?" Harmony asked again.

"Management, I tell other people what needs to be done and they execute it." I snapped.

"Cedes!" Mark chided.

Oh hell no.

"If you'll excuse me." I said getting up and leaving the table, Mark muttered something before following me.

We walked away from the table near the bathrooms before he stopped me.

"Mercedes, why are you being so rude?"

"I'm not being rude, that bitch in there is being rude and you're just rolling over!" I snapped back.

"She's my department head!"

"But I'm the one you're fucking! I get it's your job but you should have more respect for me to not tolerate her condescending to me.`` I replied and he sighed.

"I'm not allowing her to do that to you."

"And president of my division? Do you not listen to me when I talk about my job?"

"I'm not doing this, take a moment and come back when you're ready." He said before walking away.

Oh you have got to be fucking kidding me!

I shook my head and walked over to the bar but hit something firm because I was looking down.

It was a man.

"Sorry, I wasn't paying attention." I said looking up.

He gave a half smile. "You can bump into me anytime you want."

Well isn't he brazen?

"That was cute, I'm not interested." I replied before moving around him and sitting down at the bar.

I ordered a whiskey.

I sat at the bar for twenty minutes and Mark never came back to get me.

"Mind if I sit here?" I heard and looked up hoping like hell it wasn't the same man from earlier.

It wasn't.

Things are about to get juicy!
