Chapter 5: Little Dark Age

Currently, Lincoln was in his room drinking a large cup of soda just to stay awake.
It hadn't been easy for the young boy, the nightmares got worse and worse to the point that he didn't even feel like he should sleep, which is the unfortunate route he had taken, Lincoln had not slept in three days and he had looked disheveled. There were bags under his eyes, and his eyes were red from lack of sleep, his hair was also a mess and looked like a ragged white rug, and his clothes stank as he hadn't changed them In three days of course. His condition was clear as day. Most of his friends noticed it as did his family, the only other person who hadn't was Taylor and that was because they haven't seen each other in a week due to schedule differences both at home and school.
Suddenly, there was a knock at his door and Lincoln turned to it and saw it open, and in walked Lisa
"Hello dearest brother" Lisa greeted
"What do you want Lisa?" Lincoln asked with a tired tone.
"I only wished to see if you are in good health" Lisa "and from my brief observation you don't seem well, is everything ok?"
"I'm fine Lisa... I just haven't been sleeping well" Lincoln said
"I know lack of sleep when I see it Lincoln," Lisa said, "what is going on that it has been causing you to lose sleep dear brother?"
Lincoln looked at his youngest sister and sighed, he thought it might be good to talk to her since she was one of the smartest people he knew and she might be able to help him. "I've been having nightmares," Lincoln told her
"About what?" Lisa asked
"Just... I'm in a dark place, rains falling on me and I'm cold and I hear voices yelling at me" Lincoln said
"What are they yelling?" Lisa asked
"They're telling me to get out and to leave them alone and their calling me bad luck"
Lisa's eyes widened a little bit Lincoln didn't notice it at all, "you said bad luck?" Lisa asked
"Yeah, why?"
Lisa just shrugged, "no particular reason... just reminded me of another nightmare you had," Lisa said "anything besides that?"
Lincoln shook his head, "no, but the voice keeps getting louder and louder and it's just... It's scaring the hell out of me" Lincoln said
Lisa just nodded and gave him a soft smile, "Don't worry Lincoln, I'm sure it will come to pass" Lisa said
Lincoln smiled at her "thanks Lisa" he said
"No need to thank me, brother," Lisa said "Just trying to be a good sister," she said
Lisa then walked out of his room and closed the door behind her before she began to walk down the hall t her room, but looked back at her brother's room with a sad look and then sighed as she walked back to her room.
'It seems he's beginning to remember' Lisa told herself as she entered the room and closed her door
Just then, back inside Lincoln's room, Lincoln saw his phone light up and saw that Luna was calling him, and then he heard his ringer o his phone ring and he answered it quickly answered the phone.
"Hey Luna" Lincoln greeted weakly but with a smile
[hey bro! guess what!?] Luna asked
"Chicken Butt?" Lincoln asked with a smile
[Ha Ha Ha, keep the bad jokes to Luan] Luna said [Look, me and the band are going to be performing in the park today for a charity event to help the Highschool with their budget and I was hoping your friends could come and watch, what ya say?] she asked
He smiled, "Yeah, I'll see if anyone wants to come"
[alright! I'll see ya later bro!] She said
"Later Luna," He said
Lincoln ended the call and then he looked through his phone's contacts and saw his friend's numbers and began to call his friends, wondering who'd be able to come.

it was evening and it was getting darker to the point that the lights of the park were turned on but the sun's light wasn't completely gone. Taylor, Mikey, and their Mother, Ms. Ophelia were walking into the park and saw the crowd of people and saw that the band on stage was still setting up, Ms. Ophelia looked to her kids with a smile.
"Alright, Mikey you can go play on the playground until the band starts, and Taylor, you can walk around or see if there anyone here you know"
"Then who's gonna watch Mikey?" Taylor asked
"I will," Ms. Ophelia told her daughter
Taylor rolled her eyes at her mother and just began to walk away from them and search through the crowd and did try to see if there was anyone she knew in the crowd, but there was no one she had recognized. So, she decided to take a walk around the park and thought about heading to the nearby convenience store to grab a snack or maybe even a drink. She continued to walk throughout the rest of the park and decided to walk to the nearby store to get her a snack and a drink as well. however, before she left the park itself, she saw the last person she had expected to see sitting on a park bench.
"Lincoln?" She asked
The person looked over to her and it was indeed Lincoln. He looked over to her and she saw just how bad he had looked. She saw the bags under his eyes, and his eyes were red from lack of sleep, his hair was also a mess and looked like a ragged white rug.
"Jesus, what the hell happened to you?" Taylor asked
"I haven't been sleeping well," Lincoln said
"Or at all by the looks of it" She replied "Seriously are you ok?"
"Just nightmares" Lincoln replied
She walked over to him and took a seat next to him on the bench. Lincoln looked a little surprised but he didn't mind it.
"about what?" She asked
"Just the usual spooky stuff," Lincoln said with a bit of a smile, " I just find myself in some dark place, not even a room, it's like I'm in pitch black, but there's the rain falling on me, making me feel cold and then I hear voices shouting at me... again just nightmare stuff"
"Have you talked to anyone else about it?" Taylor asked
"My younger sister Lisa," Lincoln said
Taylor looked at him with a skeptical look, "Are you sure this isn't some mental health shit?" Taylor asked, "Like on those shows where people block out certain things or something?"
"what like repressed memories? I doubt it, I don't think anything too bad has happened to me" Lincoln asked "though... the nightmares do feel real" Lincoln said
Taylor looked at him with a skeptical look, "Are you sure"
Lincoln was going to answer her but for some reason, he didn't respond, he knew that was nothing bad happened to him but for some reason, both his heart and mind were telling him otherwise. He could feel that something was really wrong, yet he had no idea as to why, and that actually scared him as well. "I... I don't know" He responded
Taylor looked at his face and saw that he seemed confused about something, she didn't know what, but then she noticed that he looked a little frightened which actually worried her since she had never seen Lincoln look this, even when she used to bully him.
Suddenly, they both heard the crowd cheer.
"Looks like Luna and her band are starting to play," Lincoln said
"Your sisters performing?" Taylor asked
"Yeah," Lincoln said "You wanna head back at watch?"
Taylor knew that he had now changed the subject but she just let it slide and would let him tell her more about it if he wanted to later, but she nodded at him and they both got up from the bench and headed back to the center of the park where Luna and the band were performing.
Once they had gotten there, Luna and the band just finished playing one song and the crowd roared with applause. Sully, one of Luna's bandmates took her place at the Mic and looked over to the crowd with a wide grin on his face
"thank you, everyone, now, the next song we're are going to be playing is "Little Dark Age" By MGMT!" Sully announced
The Crowd cheered and the band got ready and the crowd went a little quiet to hear the band play the song, and Sully began to sing.
"~Breathing in the dark, lying on its side~ The ruins of the day~ Painted with a scar~ And the more I straighten out the less it wants to try! the feelings start to rot one wink at a time~ Oh oh~!"
Taylor and Lincoln began to enjoy the song, and as in continued to play with the slow and hypnotic music, they as well as everyone in the crowd began to sway and dance slowly with their partners, not formal, but more club-like. Lincoln just sort of swayed his body from side to side while Taylor moved her hips and body in a way that a belly dancer would. Lincoln found it hypnotic and well, very, very, sexy, and as for Taylor, she knew Lincoln was staring but she didn't mind, in fact, she sort of enjoyed having his gaze on her. She knew she was hot, but she wasn't full of herself, yet, a sense of pride filled her chest and she even felt a little hot while Lincoln looked at her.
"~I grieve in stereo, the stereo sounds strange, you know that if it hides it doesn't go away! If I get out of bed! You'll see me standing all alone! Horrified on the stage! My little dark age!~" Sully sang
Taylor looked over to Lincoln and Lincoln knew he was caught but Taylor didn't seem angry, in fact, she just smiled at him and gave him a flirtatious wink, which caused Lincoln's heart to race a little
"~Giddy with delight~ Seeing what's to come~! The image of the dead! Dead ends in my mind~!" Sully sang
Taylor moved closer to Lincoln and danced closer to him, so close to him that she was no doubt grinding on him at this point
The music picked up quickly before slowing back down again and Sully sang again, "~Policemen swear to God! Love's seeping from the guns~! I know my friends and I would probably turn and run! If you get out of bed, Come find us heading for the bridge~! Bring a stone~! All the rage My little dark age~!" Sully sang
Lincoln felt hot and so did Taylor, and they both danced closer to each other and they looked right at the other
"~I grieve in stereo~ The stereo sounds strange~ I know that if you hide it doesn't go away~! If you get out of bed~! And find me standing all alone! Open-eyed! Burn the page! My little dark age~!" Sully finished singing
As the song ended, and without a second thought, both closed the space between the other and they kissed, a sloppy kissed filled with raging hormones. Tongues swirled around the mouth of the other and wrestled for dominance. Eventually, they both broke apart from the kiss for air and looked at the other, and that's when reality hit them both. Taylor moved back before running away and disappearing into the crowd, Lincoln was confused and a little hurt, so he decided it was time to leave and head home.
that night, Lincoln actually slept.
He had no nightmares.

I'm back, and if you feel that the chapter is a little rushed, I admit that I may have rushed a few things, but I will take it slower on the next chapter.
If you think that the last part of this chapter doesn't make sense since both Taylor and Lincoln haven't shown an interest in each other until now, well allow me to explain:
the last part is based on an experience I just recently had with a friend of mine. Emotions were high that night and we both had a moment, but as you might have guessed it ended it a little bit like this, though there was no drama after, and thankfully we settled things, it won't be the case for Lincoln and Taylor.
Until next time!
