At the Zoo, Amity took over Luz's feeding of Tina. She was pretty nervous since she didn't hear Tina walk up behind her and sniffed her, recognizing Luz's scent on her and realizing this was Luz's mate.
"Oh!" Amity said in surprise, turning around to see her. "Oh, it's just you, Tina."
All Amity heard was a roar, but she wasn't being mauled so she thinks she was safe.
"I... I can't understand you like Luz can." Amity said.
Tina licked Amity, clearly getting the point across.
Amity giggled at the licking before she caressed her head.
"Thanks. I think I get the message." Amity said to her.
"Now, if you could show me where you get fed... I work with the giraffes so I don't know where I'm supposed to bring your food."
Tina let out a roar, which the witch couldn't understand, but she still followed the Tiger. She saw Tyler sleeping.
"Awe, he's so cute." Amity said, "He's gotten so much bigger than when I saw him after he was born."
Tina roared softly in agreement as she stopped before a door, putting a paw onto to her Amity's attention.
"Okay, I guess that means I put it here." Amity said.
After feeding the tigers for Luz, Amity gave them both one last pet goodbye, before she headed off towards her own duties with the giraffes. She was much better with the gentle herbivore, she knew their behavior and helped raise several of them.
'Still can't believe they're from the demon realm.' Amity thought about the giraffes again.
"These creatures are so beautiful; I have a hard time believing what Eda was telling me." Amity said.
As Amity went to her normal habitat to look after, Tyler was watching her go with curious eyes.
"So she is Luz's mate?" He asked his mother.
Tina licked her cub.
"Indeed, Luz talked about her for years, she's had a thing for her since she saw her in middle school."
"That long?" Tyler asked, having been told of human school and the years it takes to complete.
"Indeed. When they finally got together, the entire zoo cheered for them the next morning." Tina said to her cub, "And with Luz gone, we should try and be extra good for her mate. We want to leave a good impression."
"Okay, mommy." Tyler said with a nod.
Even he knew well enough that if Luz's mate didn't like him, Luz might not like him anymore as well. Amity made her way to her comfort zone, the giraffe housing. It was the place the giraffes were held during the night so they could sleep. She grabbed a bucket and went to feed them.
"Here you go, Marcus. Some of your favorite, acacia leaves with twigs." Amity said as she held the bucket out to one of them.
She put several more buckets on hooks attached to poles, then she grabbed a broom and started to sweep the place. She would be damned if she let her babies stay somewhere so filthy.
'Babies…..What will Luz's and mine be like?' Amity thought with a blush.
Amity began to turn red and took her mind off it by opening the gate to the giraffe exhibit.
"I'll think about that later." Amity said to herself.
The Giraffes walked out into the enclosure. Amity watched them go as they conversed among themselves, talking about her.
"This human is a god send." One giraffe said.
"She's not human, I heard her and her mate talking about it once." A female said, "She's a witch."
"A witch? Like the ones that banished our ancestors?" Another giraffe asked.
"Indeed but she didn't know about her true nature until it was revealed to her months ago." The female said as she turned to Amity. "Even after learning about our origins, she still treats us so well."
"Regardless of what she is, she is our Keeper, and she is one of us in my opinion." Another said.
"Here here!" Several giraffes agreed with him.
"I've even heard she wishes to share Luz's gift to understand us." Another female said.
"I can't think of anything better than being able to actually talk to us."
"I know, it's simply a delight." Another said.
Something else to be known about giraffes that humans and witches don't know, they can be a bit snooty at times. But when it comes to Amity, and Luz, they are always kind.
