I am trying to catch up so enjoy a third couple in two days. My carpal tunnel is really acting up so since I am in a wrist brace I will be posting another chapter not as quickly as the first three.
Question for those who have read the original version: should I include the spider prank in this rewrite? I have been reading my old story so I do not miss out on major event that happened and the spider prank seemed a little childish as well as rushed and not how Annabeth would really react.
Also, someone pointed out that I should include a disclaimer of sorts. My story takes place after Heroes of Olympus but not after the Apollo series. I honestly have not read the Apollo series due to me leaving home for awhile to join the military.
Enjoy the story!

Annabeth II
My day had started off semi decent. My mother and I were engaged in a conversation about my ideas for the new garden I was putting in on Mount Olympus. I had spent all summer catching up on construction that had been delayed when Percy went missing thanks to Hera. I heard the busses pull up before I saw them. I looked down this hill and held my breath. Mortal parents ran up the hill to their children and little siblings followed just as fast. I watched Sally basically run up to Percy. I smiled for him before I started searching for the people who called themselves my family. I was relieved when I saw my father walking up the hill alone.
"Dad" I put on a smile as he reached me on top of the hill. My dad was handsome and I can see why my mother had taken a liking to him because all though he was handsome he was very put together and intelligent looking.
"Annabeth. Athena" he said dryly and nodded respectfully to my mother. His reaction had kind of taken me off guard because the last time I visited him he had welcomed me home with open arms but now he looked as though it was a problem to be here.
"Where is Helen?" I asked and his jaw clenched.
"If you would reach out or visit more often you would know we are divorced" He said and I looked at him in shock "but I am not sure how you could have been any help seeing as though you were the final straw."
"What?" I asked and he shook his head.
"Nothing" he said and my mother interjected thank fully.
"Good morning Frederick" she said calmly to him "I expect that your flight went well?"
"Pleasant" he nodded "I'm assuming I should thank Zeus for calm skies?"
"He most certainly have a play in it" she nodded "shall we go down to the cabin?"
"Yes" my dad nodded and he looked at me "I would love to put my bag down."
"Follow me then" I said and started to walk down the hill. How could I have been the final straw of their divorce if I never came around.
I had led them through camp, all the way to Cabin 6.
"Welcome to Cabin 6, Athena's cabin" I couldn't help but smile proudly as I opened the door and stepped in. My 12 siblings were engrossed in daily activities typical for them during off times at Camp. Only a few actually glanced up when I came in and bowed their heads to our mother before resuming their activity.
"It's a bit messy" my dad said as he walked towards the empty bed to put his things down.
"The seek for knowledge tends to be a bit messy" Athena said and joined Malcolm at the strategy table to glance over it, my heart racing to see if she approved of my plan "Capture the Flag?"
"Yes" I said and nodded, coming around the table "we have us, Apollo, Poseidon, Zeus, Iris and Hecate. I put my strong hitters on the border line at the creek because they're my best defense. Percy and Thalia almost make up my entire defense with a little help from Apollo cabin. We take the lead for the flag with Hecate and Iris flanking us for distraction."
"I would do the same thing" she smiled at me and I swelled with pride at my mother's compliment.
"So you never come home so you can play Capture the Flag like every other summer camp in the country?" My dad asked as he scanned my personal bookshelf, noticing all the pictures I have of Percy and I.
"Actually, if I may Mr. Chase" Malcolm interjected "Annabeth is our cabin counselor. She splits her time between here and Mount Olympus. She teaches Ancient Greek and Mythology 101 to the new campers coming in and she holds the highest position on the war council."
"I'm not sure why a summer camp needs a war council" my dad said.
"Well Frederick" my mother said, now examining a couple weavings done by my siblings "she is a half-blood. Her life tends to be more dangerous than a normal mortals and she must be prepared for anything. Annabeth has fought in two wars, very valiantly might I add, already has proven to be one of the main reason we came out on top of those wars. Her battle strategy is one that I have not seen since me. In reference to the Ancient Greek Mythology you teach at the university Perseus Jackson is the Zeus of the Camp and Annabeth is the me. I will never say that to his face for fear of stroking his ego and to also not make my own father believe the son of Poseidon is his mortal equal."
I stood there, open mouthed, at the statement my mother said. She saw me as her mortal equal and I felt ashamed at how many times I believed I was unworthy of being her daughter.
"I hear this name come up a lot" my dad said "Percy, though you call him Perseus. Who is he?"
"He is the Son of Poseidon. He has been the one of two Great Prophecies and he has led Camp Half Blood into unavoidable war twice. He is also my boyfriend of 4 years" I held my breath in anticipation.
"Ah" my dad said and swallowed hard "so be it."
There was an awkward silence and I was relieved when my brother spoke up again.
"So this is all set to share with our allies?" Malcolm asked me and I nodded.
"Yes. Please disperse the plans and do not let anyone on Ares's team see them" I said and he rolled up the scroll map of the woods and left.
"Perhaps a tour of the rest of Camp Half Blood is in order" my mother said "I'm sure your father would enjoy seeing some other aspects of the Camp."
"Yes!" I said and grabbed my Yankee's cap, stuffing it into my back pocket of my jeans "follow me and I'll show you some of my favorite spots!"
I led my father and mother through Camp showing them the Amphitheatre, Armory and Canoe Lake before we finally got to the arena. As we walked in we almost ran into five people coming out. The smell of the ocean, a scent that has long calmed me, over came me and before I even saw who it was I knew it must be Percy and his family.
"Poseidon" Athena greeted him and he responded with "Athena." A polite exchange from two proud Olympians who have long hated each other since Ancient Greece.
I was too focused on Percy to really focus on the current conversation between the families. He looked calm and collected which means he was enjoying his time with both parents present. I tuned back in when I heard my father speak.
"You must be the young man that's been dating my daughter" he looked at me and my eyes darted to him from Percy. I was never planning to have this situation happen and I suddenly worried about how the interaction would go.
"Uh...uh...yes sir" Percy stuttered, he was almost cute when he stuttered "we've bee together 4 years now."
"What do you do outside of Camp? Are you in college?" my dad asked him and my heart dropped. The last time I visited y dad he lectured me about finding an educated man so that I will have someone of the same caliber as me.
"No sir" Percy said and the air filled with tension. There was always a feel of dislike when Athena and Poseidon were together but I was on edge and I knew Percy would be feeling it as well.
"Why not?" my dad asked him and I knew that there was no answer Percy could say that my dad would accept.
"Let's just go dad" I said and he held his hand up to me. I hated when he did that and it pushed me to always be the smartest person in every room I was in so no one would ever have the chance to cut me off the way he always had.
"In a minute. You don't let me into your life at all and I come here to find out you've had a boyfriend for 4 years that I've never met" my dad looked at me and I held my tongue, as hard as it may be, and I knew my eyes went from steel to storm cloud grey the way they did when I was angry.
"Actually sir we did meet. When I was 14" Percy said and I knew he was referencing the quest he went on to save me from Atlas.
"Ah yes" he nodded "you were on your way to save her from whatever dangerous thing she was stuck in. If you're not in college then what do you do?"
"I'm here at camp" Percy defended himself. "I train others. I help Annabeth with her classes an-"
"So you're useless" my dad cut him off and I swear I heard thunder in the skies above us.
"Excuse me?" Poseidon immediately responded and before I could say something, something along the lines of 'go away and never come back', Percy spoke, calmly and carefully.
"Sir" he looked my dad directly in the eye and he crossed his arms "I am a hero of Olympus. I have the highest ranking of wins in the arena. I train young campers and elite campers how to win. And as long as I am breathing I will never let anything happen to your daughter. I am sorry you see me as useless but as long as your daughter wants me I will be around. I have to leave."
I was shocked at his calculated response to the insult and how he kept his cool. I was in too much shock to even register when he kissed my cheek and left with his family.
"You can do better" my dad looked at me and I looked at him back "you were meant for so muc-"
"She is right where I want her to be" Athena cut him off curtly "she has proven to be such an honor to call my daughter. Although 4 years ago I would have agreed with you I only would have agreed because I hold a grudge against his father I do not agree with you now. I have seen that young man fall into the depths of Tartarus to be able to protect my daughter. He has risked his life to ensure her safety and I give him a lot of credit. Annabeth is incredibly intelligent, you need tot rust her decisions. She is 20 years old. And unless you would prefer to go back home in less favorable condition as you arrived in I would suggest that you keep your negative comments to yourself. Your lonely life is no result of Annabeth but your own choices so do not take it out on her."
I smiled softly at her at the compliments she sprinkled in the spiel she just rattled off to him.
"I do not want to leave" my dad said "but yes, I may be reflecting my own emotions about my life decisions onto her, so I swear to keep anything but positive comments to myself for the duration of the summer. Forgive me if I tend to be quieter than I have been today."
"I will accept that" I said and we continued on our tour "my cabin is supposed to be in archery training at the moment if you would be interested in watching?"
"Of course" Athena nodded "lead the way."
The rest of the day was spent quietly for the most part until it was time to go clean up before dinner.
Please leave a review, especially if you read the original "Our Families Are What?" so I could know how I'm doing on this story compared to the original.
