Lieutenant Colonel Carter glanced at her SG-1 colleagues and General Landry, all seated around her at the table in the briefing room. They were staring at her, expectantly, whereas General O'Neill, seated on her right, was avoiding her. Landry noticed it and was stunned. O'Neill would always listen to Carter but this time, he looked embarrassed. Carter looked embarrassed, too.

The lady took a deep a breath. It couldn't last much longer. It had to be said. "I'm pregnant," she announced, calm.

The news caught everyone off guard. Landry, at the head of the table, tilted his head. On his right, Mitchell's eyes widened. Next to the colonel, Daniel sat up straight and moved his eyebrows multiple times. Vala, on Daniel's right, grinned, looking at Sam. Teal'c, across the table and on Sam's left, turned his chair to Carter and bowed his head, his way to express he was happy for her.

After the surprising news, Jackson came back to his senses. "That's wonderful! Congratulations, Sam, Jack!"

The rest of the SGC people around the table congratulated the colonel and the general. Sam's and Jack's fellows were smiling, happy for the couple. However, confusion rose quickly as they noticed that the future parents didn't look excited. After exchanging startled looks, all looked at Carter and O'Neill. Nobody knew how to handle this lack of enthusiasm from the future parents.

Mitchell eventually cleared his throat, hesitant. "Uh... This is good news, isn't it?"

Carter glanced at O'Neill. Then, she revealed to the rest of the group, "Hum... General O'Neill isn't the father."

Teal'c raised his right eyebrow so high that it could take off from his face. Daniel did the same thing with his two eyebrows and frowned. Vala's eyes widened, shocked. Landry and Mitchell glanced at each other, nonplussed.

Daniel was sad. "I'm sorry, I didn't know you broke up."

Jackson's words made Jack rectify, "Oh no, we didn't break up."

Everybody stared at the couple, even more confused. Daniel wanted to ask something but it was obvious he was hesitating very much.

"Hum..." Daniel eventually sighed, right fist before his mouth and eyes avoiding his friends'. He then looked up at Sam and Jack. "I'm sorry to ask... If Jack's not the father... Who's the father?" he asked straightforwardly, earning Vala's glare for this very personal question.

Sam didn't look angry or disappointed. She looked rather relieved that someone had brought up the topic. "Well... The father may be Thor..."

All the men in the room stayed silent, nonplussed.

Vala Mal Doran grinned and nodded, satisfied with this option.

"Wait. What? Thor?!" Martin Lloyd exclaimed and stopped walking, baffled. He stared at Vala, who had stopped, too. The two had been brainstorming about the man's script in a corridor in Cheyenne Mountain. The producer shook his head. "This... is... the silliest idea I've ever heard!" he bluntly reacted.

"Why?"

"Remember what I said about the wedding? I'm not torturing my audience!"

"You should think about the possibilities instead of rejecting this idea," Vala responded, not ready to give up. "We think it's Thor, but in the end, it's not!" she added with a smile, motivated by her own plot.

"Oh, come on!" Martin implored. "I'm producing a sci-fi show. Aliens, action, and humor - he raised one finger at each element - Not a soap opera!"

"Soap operas have been airing on TV for decades and they're still there, which means there's a lot to learn from them," Vala objected, pointing an index finger at Martin, very serious.

Martin Lloyd grimaced and resumed the walk down the corridor. Vala didn't follow him right away. An idea popped into her mind.

"Oh, what about this!" she said, loud, looking at Martin going away. "General O'Neill and Colonel Carter stuck on a planet, making offworld babies!"

The airman getting past Vala and the two civilian scientists going over a document together while walking in her direction stopped. They all stared at the lady, extremely perturbed by what they had just heard in that corridor. The two scientists glanced at each other and shrugged, as if to say the idea wasn't silly on second thought. Vala caught their silent approbation and scurried to Martin, saying that at least two people agreed with her idea, so it was the evidence that her ideas could be taken into consideration.
