She remembered the times that her team had shared. Countless arguments, ranging all over the place on the intensity meter, between the one that loved her and the one she had loved. She thought the Team 7 would always remain together, forever. Kakashi-sensei, Naruto, Sasuke-kun, and her together always…
She had hoped one day that he would return her feelings. She continued on fighting, continued on without feeling one bit shameless on her tactics. But as time gone by, she found herself finding more and more about her Team. Some may have even drawn her closer to her love, and some things even frightened her.
Lying here, in the mud and in blood, she thought back to the times Team 7 was still a whole. It had always been her to protect the one she loved most, but who knew she would end up dying to protect him? Lying on her stomach, bloodied and punctured everywhere, she weakly smiled.
She remembered how his eyes once held emotion. She thought back to the times when Naruto would anger him, thinking back to how his eyes would gleam dangerously. She remembered the time when he called her annoying, and recalled that his eyes had a mischievous playful spirit in them. Whether it was annoyance, anger, regret – they held something.
And her smile weakened further as she recalled the pain she went when she found him walking out of the village. Yes, it was then when she caught a change in his eyes. She remembered her heart racing with desperation after seeing his eyes. They were so empty.
She painfully gritted her teeth, remembering how weak she was when all she could do was cry. What a burden she had put on Naruto to do something she couldn't even do. But she did something about it. She found her way of being useful, her own way of bringing Sasuke back.
And after two and a half years, she was able to see him again. She remembered the shock she had experienced when she heard his voice, when she saw his eyes again. But her heart fell when she still saw that emptiness within his eyes. The same eyes that he had greeted her with on the night he had left. He said he was willing to do anything for that serpent. And what hurt her the most was seeing how he said it so calmly, without any regret or hesitation. He was willing to do anything to get his revenge.
There was no use in talking, the painful conclusion she and the others had came up with. She remembered tightening her gloves, promising herself that this encounter will not be like the last; she will bring him back.
What a disappointment it was when she saw him disappear with his new "friends". She felt her own dying heart reaching its own limits as she gripped the sloppy sludge.
And just a few moments ago, she took a full blow from one of his "friends". She didn't know where the rest of her team went, probably on the trail of the one person they need back in the village.
"Sa…suke…kun…" She whispered with her last breaths.
Just like you were willing to do anything to get your revenge, I will do anything to get you back. I won't be able to get Team 7 back, but I hope you'll realize that we had something special in that team...
