"Thank heavens we are leaving this dreadful place," said C3PO, not cognisant of the events just unfolding. "Master Ani, thank goodness you are here. Mistress Padme was getting worried, all on her own."
Anakin coldly ignored him as he walked up the ramp to Padme's ship. Ahsoka put one hand on 3PO's shoulder. Padme followed, her heart racing. The mood and air was very tense.
What was that droid over there? Ahsoka thought. And laser sparks. And the platform collapsing?
But she did not think of that. At a usual time, yes, the excitement and adrenaline of chasing after these events in the war always caught on to them. And they would solve it. Mostly. Not this time, though. This was all overshadowed by the meta-events of the galaxy. And the turn of her Master, Anakin Skywalker, from someone so kind, thoughtful and brave, to whoever... he is right now. And whatever he appears to be. This is not him though, she knew. It isn't him; and Anakin is still alive; far from dead. It was only a few weeks ago when she saw him as his normal self!
Ahsoka knew there was much work to be done. Her thoughts were on what next to do. She wondered what Anakin must be thinking. She wished to reach out to him, but she knew that that was dangerous. This was not a happy mission in the Clone Wars, where they would brotherly and sisterly bicker constantly. The future was very uncertain. But there lies some hope - he is at least here. Where they would go from now is not certain.
How dangerous is he? How volatile is he? He single-handedly destroyed most of the Jedi Order… him and Palpatine. At least at the temple. Ahsoka winces very very deeply. Even younglings, she now remembered as she sighed sadly.
Ahsoka thinks: Visions of Padme's death? Anakin was too attached to the people he loved – even herself.
I will help Anakin. I will help you.
Anakin sat at the back, his hand to his head. Padme sat next to him, not besides him but on the ledge on the other side.
"I won't lose you, Padme." He said determinately.
"Anakin..." She said soothingly. "We can... all go away from here... Go away into a new future; leave the war and the madness."
"I need to be alone now, Padme," He said dismissively. "Leave me."
Padme nodded, heart heavy and sat next to the front where Ahsoka was piloting.
"Thank you Ahsoka," She said.
"I can't thank you enough."
"I know..." Ahsoka nodded. "We should contact Obi-Wan."
Padme suddenly felt scared, at this remark of Ahsoka. "He wanted to kill Anakin."
"He won't, Padme.
"He cares about Anakin. He loves him."
He cannot, Ahsoka thought... just a few days ago she spoke to him on Hologram... he only had care and concern for his brother and friend...
"I don't know what's made Anakin like this..." Padme said.
"I know, Padme." Ahsoka said.
"I don't know what will happen to him!"
"Calm down, Padme," Ahsoka called on her. "We must keep our calm. Otherwise we are all dead."
"Where are we now, Artoo?" She asked the astromech. "Can you get a clear signal?"
Ahsoka wondered how to reach Obi-Wan. She reached out through the force… And she waited in meditation for a while.
She sensed where Obi-Wan could be. She contacted Senator Organa.
He came immediately and immediately said, "Padme! Are you safe? Where are you?"
"Bail, I am fine. I have Anakin with me." Padme walked to the front.
"Anakin? Skywalker?" Bail got very alarmed.
Ahsoka immediately interrupted. "Senator Organa! We must contact General Kenobi."
"He is here. But Padme, I don't think you are protected," he said wearingly. "Skywalker has assisted the Emperor in exterminating the Jedi."
"He won't harm me, Bail," Padme said. "You know that."
He nodded in understanding. "I know, but Kenobi and Skywalker may not be hospitable with each other."
"Just bring him over on hologram, Senator. Nothing is going to happen." Ahsoka fiercely asserted.
Senator Organa very much doubted that. But he said, "Very Well."
Kenobi appeared on hologram.
"Ahsoka? Are you alright? Thank heavens you are. I feared the worst."
"I'm not a Jedi anymore, Master. I wasn't at the temple."
"Padme?" Looking at Padme, he appeared incredulously.
"Master Kenobi; we need your help," Ahsoka said, with determination.
"Do you want to rendezvous with the Tantive IV?" Obi-Wan asked thoughtfully.
"Things are a little more complicated than that." That was all Ahsoka Tano could say.
