Prologue: Ashes to Ashes
The pain in her chest was slowly killing her but still she continued to run down the worn out mountain path. She knew that soon she would have to surrender to the truth that lay before her. But still, she wanted to believe that she could still save him. The only person in her life that still mattered.
Once she arrived at the village she saw the bleeding priestess pull back her bowstring and let the arrow fly. The arrow then pierced the chest of the half-breed and pinned him to the tree.
Kyoko fell to her knees as the blood from the hole in her stomach continued to flow down her black kimono. She was too late... It had all been in vain. She closed her eyes to try and shut out the scene of the one called Kikyo talking to the small sister. Why had everything come to this?
Feeling all emotions leave her heart she struggled to her feet and she staggered into a hut that was slowly being consumed by fire. Ignoring the pain from her wound and the stinging in her eyes that the smoke was causing she dropped on the bedroll that was in the smoldering home. Closing her eyes she willed herself to leave this world and all the sorrow in it behind.
As the minutes passed she felt herself losing feeling in all her limbs. It was getting harder to breathe. When the air was so dark she could not see anymore Kyoko though cynically that she was about to be destroyed by fire. Just like he should have been. HE was beyond saving. So was she.
They had both done things that could never been forgiven. And now her flesh was about to return to the earth from wence it came. Ashes to Ashes. Yes, and her soul would go to hell for all eternity.
Just as the darkness she heard and evil chuckle. Startled she opened her eyes and the last image she saw was of a man in a white baboon robe chuckling evilly.
