CHAPTER 21
Matt and Gabby were celebrating six months into dating, so they chose Molly's to celebrate, "This round's on me," Matt said while they approached the counter.
"Hi, guys... ", Gabby greeted her friends.
"Okay, I want to make a toast to Matt and Gabby. Congratulations to the couple!" Hermann spoke behind the counter.
"Hey... you guys could wait for me", Shay prostrated offended.
They were looked at her apprehensive...
"Anyway...", smiling she held a beer in the air, "... to the cutest couple of Firehouse 51...", they all cheered them up.
"Is she already drunk?" Casey whispered to Kelly.
"I guess so… she had a few beers...", Severide stated as Shay patted his head.
"Ouch, Shay...", Sev rubbed his head... Gabby and Matt laughed at their antics.
A few hours later..., Shay pulled Gabby aside to chat privately... "Listen, I will try to get pregnant," Gabby looked at her astonished...
"You are kidding, right?"
When Shay didn't respond...
"Sorry, Shay, you are serious about that?"
"I've postponed it for so long... and I think it's the right time for me...".
"Okay... how did you- you know...", Gabby sipped her beer.
"Severide will help me. Next week I am going to the doctor...".
"I am glad for you if that's what you want...".
"... Sev was in shock as well, I've never shared with him that I wanted to get pregnant and everything... I need to have my friends by my side...".
"Of course, you can count on me...You will be a great mother, I have no doubt...".
"Thank you, Gabby...", they hugged each other.
Gabby gulped her beer, "I need to go to the restroom real quick..." Gabby said.
"Yeah...".
Gabby entered the stall, sat down on the closed-toiled...
Her past had ways to hunt her...
Tears rolled down her face...
Flashback
"Bryan, what are you doing here?" Gabby locked the door of her house. Antonio insisted that she should stay with his family, her due date was in two weeks...
"I made mistake, okay... please give one more chance, Gabby...".
Gabby noticed he was drunk, "One more? I am tired of all your bullshit... Now get out of my way", Gabby unlocked her car and threw her purse inside.
"You could lend me some money?"
"Oh, you didn't take long this time,... the real Bryan. You're blind? I'm pregnant with your child... get a job, be responsible one time in your life...".
Getting to the driver's side, Gabby opened the door, then Bryan pointed a gun at her head, then at her belly, "Bryan, are you crazy?", Gabby stammered.
"Give me the key, come on...", he said angrily.
"Bryan, please it's your son...", tears filled her eyes. "You're drunk, you can't drive...".
"Don't argue with me Gabby", he pointed the gun at her head. Then Gabby gave him the key.
"Get in the car and don't try anything...".
They got in the car and drove off...
Bryan was driving at great speed, "You will get us killed... Stop the car, Bryan, please!" Gabby cried out.
"Shut up! Shut up!" he swore multiple times as looking at her. That's when the car broke into the wrong road and hit a three... Gabby went unconscious... Minutes later Bryan slowly regained his consciousness, getting out of the car, he ran away... Gabby woke up in the hospital, the doctor tried to save the baby, yet he died a few hours later after the emergency cesarean section.
End of flashback
"Shay, where is Gabby?" Matt asked when he saw her walking up to the bar counter.
"She's in the restroom..., bathroom, but it's been a while...".
"Thanks, I'll check...".
When he got closer, Gabby walked out, "Hey..., how are you good?" Casey asked.
"Yeah... I'm fine... Why?"
"Are you sure? Have you been crying?" Matt cradled her head.
"My parents called me, ... you know. I miss them, that's all...", she dismissed his worries.
Matt didn't believe it but decided not to push her on the matter.
"Do you want to leave?"
"Oh, yeah". Gabby said.
They were comfortable sat in Matt's car...
"Anna is at my sister tonight...".
"I rather we go home, Matt...".
"Look, I talked to Anna... she is fine with you sleeping there...",
"You asked her?"
Matt nodded softly feeling Gabby a bit upset.
"We had decided to do that together, remember?" Gabby was visibly angry. Matt thought she was overreacting...
"Gabby, why are you angry? I didn't intend to upset you or anything... Anna suggested a sleepover with Violet, and invite you, Eva, that's when the question came up...".
Gabby sighed as dropping her head, "Can you take me home, please?"
"You are not gonna say what's happening here?"
"I'll take a cab-".
"Stop it", he spoke louder, calming down, "I'll take you home, just-I'll take you...".
All the drive to her apartment was made in silence.
