Chapter Five Danger May Approach
May looked at the people outside her parent's door.
"Excuse me, housekeeping!" one of them, a reddish pink haired woman said.
"Uh… right. We should be leaving now," May said as she made her way back to the others.
"Good day," the blue haired man said.
"Bye! The smallest one said.
May waved as she walked off.
…
The disguised Team Rocket entered the now empty room May had just left and huddled up, grinning madly, for they had eavesdropped on the discussion between May and her parents.
"Hmm… sounds like the Hoenn Twerpette has developed a liking for the Twerp!" Jessie said.
"I thought she liked the green haired contest goer!" James said.
"That guy was smooth, but she and the twerp spent a lot of time together when she was in the mix," Meowth said.
"You think the twerp might like her as well?" James asked.
"The twerp is probably too twerpy to know that!" Jessie said. "Ah well, this gives me an idea. Instead of Pikachu, lets grab the twerpette."
They all chuckled evilly.
…
Ash, Brock, and Dawn all finished their meal and it was time to go. From Vermillion City they could take the tunnels of the Diglett Cave as a shortcut with the Maple family. They walked to the caves on the east side outside of the city.
"This tunnel leads between Pewter and Viridian City, we should get there in two days and then we can get some taxi's to take us to Pallet Town," Brock said.
"Its kind of dark in here," Dawn said.
"Piplup!" her partner agreed.
"Well, I got something to help with this!" Max said.
He drew a flashlight from his backpack. They walked for several hours until the time came for lunch.
"Alright I still got enough to make a good stew," Brock said.
May thought of something suddenly.
"Hold on Brock!" she said. "I'd like to cook this time!"
"Huh?" Brock was surprised.
"You cook May?" Ash asked in surprise.
"I know Brock always did and he was really good at it! But since I went off on my own I had to do it myself," May said. "I managed to become pretty decent I think."
"I bet it still can't come close to Brock's!" Max teased his sister.
"Brock's is still probably better but I think I can at least earn second place!" May said.
"Like you did with your purple surprise Pokeblock?" Max asked.
"I'll have you know I've been using actual recipes to cook rather than randomly throwing ingredients together like I was back then!" May shouted, now annoyed.
"Okay that's enough you two!" Caroline said. "Let's let May do her cooking."
"Alright!" May shouted in happiness.
"Okay," Ash said. "Knock us out May!"
Soon May was serving them all a stew filled with vegetables of chopped carrots and celery. May took a ladle and put a bowl in for each of the Pokémon food was served and everyone had to let their Pokémon out.
"Come on out guys!" Ash said as he threw his five pokeballs into the air.
Infernape, Staraptor, Torterra, Gible, and Buizel all appeared. Gliscor had been sent back to Professor Oak's labratory as Ash could only carry six Pokemon. Brock called Chansey, Sudowoodo, and Croagunk out. Dawn's Cyndaquil, Pachirisu, Togekiss, Buneary, and Mamoswine joined as well.
"Ahh!" Max exclaimed as he saw all the Pokemon native to Sinnoh that he'd never seen before. "So cool! Sinnoh Pokemon! I got to go there after I'm done with Hoenn!"
"Lunch time everyone!" May said as she threw her pokeballs.
Munchlax, Blaziken, Beautifly, and Skitty appeared along with two pokemon that Ash and Brock hadn't seen with May before.
"Wow, caught yourself a Bellosom and a Mareep huh May?" Brock noticed.
Bellosom, a flower themed pokemon in a leafy dress, and the electric sheep pokemon, Mareep were the newest additions to May's team.
"Yeah, I didn't catch too many pokemon while I was in Johto. But these two were really pretty or cute. I had to have them!" May said.
"Yeah, well I managed to catch six pokemon already!" Max said. "Come on out guys!"
Slakoth, Zizagoon, Poocheyena, Wingull, Ralts, and Zangoose appeared from their pokeballs.
"Wow, great start Max!" Ash said.
"Half of those are normal types!" Brock noted.
"Yeah, kinda taking after my dad's specialization, I guess. Normal pokemon don't have too many weaknesses after all, aside from rock, fighting or steel!" Max said.
"Well, maybe you'll become the next Petalburg Gym Leader son!" Norman said.
Max chuckled. "I doubt I'll ever be as good as you Dad!"
"Well, time for my Pokémon to come out!" Norman said. "Slakoth, Slaking, Vigaroff!"
The three ape pokemon appeared from their pokeballs.
They turned their attention back to May's food.
"Well, time to try this out!" Brock said as he took his first spoonful. "Mm!"
"You like it?" May asked.
"Yeah. You keep practicing you might even surpass my cooking skills someday!" Brock said.
"No way, it can't be that good!" Max said.
"It is!" Ash said as he took a mouthful.
"Huh?" Max exclaimed before taking a taste. "Mmm… okay I take it back! You do come close to Brock's cooking!"
"It's wonderful May!" Dawn said.
"Ha, I wish I'd made a bet with you back when you said I'd never close on Dewford Island!" May said.
"It's very good dear," Caroline told her daughter.
"Yes," Norman agreed. "You probably learned a few things from Brock!"
Ash looked at May with a smile. "I bet you'll make some guy really happy if he has you to cook meals for him!"
May felt her cheeks go red as she heard that. "Oh… uh… thanks Ash."
Norman looked at them both as he held a spoon to his mouth. Slowly he swallowed, watching carefully.
"Hey Ash… there's something I wanted to … say to you," May said.
"Oh yeah, what's that May?" Ash asked as he continued eating the soup she'd made.
"May!" Norman said warningly.
His daughter looked at him in worry and put her hands up. "It's not that dad!" she turned back to Ash. "It's just that, I never really thanked you for all those times you saved me while we were traveling together."
"Oh, that's okay," Ash said. "It's what friends do. We look out for each other. Any of us would have done the same."
"Yeah. Though you are usually the quickest Ash. You've done it for all of us at some point," Brock said.
"Yeah. You too. I remember you both pulled me and May up when we were trapped on that broken bridge," Max said.
"I should probably thank you both as well," Caroline said. "For taking care of my children and keeping them safe."
Norman sighed and managed a grateful tone. "Yes… thank you. I've heard of several incidents that happened along the way. But I'm glad my children had good friends to look after them. I'll always be grateful to you both for that."
"Well… Ash gets most of the credit. Especially for May," Brock said.
Ash chuckled. "Stop it Brock you're making me feel like a big shot hero!"
"Well you are one to me Ash!" May said.
Ash looked at her in surprise. But before he could say anything, suddenly the ground below their feet suddenly began to shake. The earth opened and a large set of three metal Diglett heads burrowed up from underground.
"Dugtrio!" It said.
"Ah! I thought Dugtrio only measured 2 feet tall!" Max screamed as he looked at the thing.
"That's just a machine!" May said.
Evil laughter sounded from within the giant Dugtrio which everyone now noted to have an R emblem on the middle head.
"Prepare for Trouble, we've dug up a lot!"

Meowth! That's Right!
Wobbafett! Mime Mime!"
Team Rocket looked down at Ash and his friends from out of each Dugtrio head.
"It's Team Rocket!" Ash stated.
"Why am I not surprised?" May asked.
"Don't they ever give up?" Max said.
"We've been tailing this Pikachu for far too long to give up now!" Jessie said pointing. "Or so we'd usually say! But we have a new target today! And that would be you bandana twerpette!"
"Huh?" May was astounded. "Me?"
With a chuckle, Jessie pressed a switch and a mechanical hand sprung out at May and grabbed her as she screamed.
"Why does this always happen to me!?" she asked as she was pulled into the machine and the others watched in horror.
"May!" Norman shouted.
"No!" Caroline screamed.
"Let her go!" Norman yelled.
"You want her you to have to come get her!" Jessie said sticking her tongue out. "Though we might be willing to make a trade."
Ash grit his teeth. "Let me guess… you want Pikachu?" He asked angrily.
"No. Normally that would be the case. But we've been given special orders!" James said. "Our boss wants you twerp!"
"Huh Me?" Ash asked.
"Meowth that's right! So if you want the twerpette back in one piece give yourself up!" Meowth ordered.
"Our boss wants to have a word with you! So surrender and come with us!" James ordered.
"Or would you prefer the twerpette end up deep deep?" Jessie asked.
Ash gritted his teeth as he looked at May trapped in the grasp of the mechanical claw which moved her over the hole Team Rocket had just come up out of.
Uh oh May's in danger again! Will they save her? Probably, but the real danger is yet to come. Please review. Also if you guys notice anything off with Team Rocket's motto, as I know they changed it up a bit in Diamond and Pearl, please tell me and I'll correct or any mistakes I find in this chapter or previous ones. Even if I find Team Rocket's motto to be the most annoying thing that appears in almost every episode, along with Brock's flirting.
