Matt woke up, breathing heavily as he laid his head in his hands, sitting on the edge of the bed.

Feeling the sweat drip down his back, he tried not to think back about the nightmare he had just had. For the first time in weeks, it was not of the accident. This time it wasn't of the accident he had had that bothered him. But their uncertainty as they wanted to adopt the little girl didn't help either. After dreaming they had gone back to Chicago without her, he wasn't able to sleep.

Instead, he stood up from the bed, putting the covers back over Gabby as he stumbled to the back porch.

Leaving Gabby peacefully asleep, he made his way towards the back porch, sitting down as he looked at the sunrise. Stretching his leg, he felt so peaceful here on Puerto Rico. Although they would have to return to Chicago in a few weeks.

It had been a welcome change after the last few weeks since the accident on his job. All they had been concerned about for weeks was surviving. First about his survival, then Gabby finding a job, his recovery at home and then wanting to go here to get a peace of mind. Only for him to have surgery again, the have to stay longer.

But now it didn't even matter to them. They were happy to still be here and now they even had the purpose of adopting the little girl.

It gave a lot of hope.

Especially with the little girl in the hospital that they had spend so much time with.

It gave some hope for the future as well.

Two arms wrapped around him from behind and he smiled.

''Stopped snoring huh-'' he smiled as he turned around to kiss Gabby.

''I don't snore.''

''You do and it was very cute,''

Nudging his side, he sat down beside him, smiling.

''Goodmorning,''

''Goodmorning,'' he smiled, kissing her on her cheek.

''Want to go to the hospital again today to see her?''

Matt smiled as he already knew the answer as they had been going there every single day. Not only because Matt had to go for therapy, but also because they really wanted to see and spend time with her. Especially now that they still hoped to adopt her as

''Little Guapa,'' Gabby smiled. The little girl had smiled every time Gabby had held her and called her that. It made her heart melt and she hoped that finally they would be able to give her a name, or hear her real name.

Matt folded his arm around as they looked at the last of the sunset, already having forgotten about her nightmare from this morning.

Excited, Gabby parked the car by the house. She had gone to the supermarket to grab some groceries as most of the food had run out. Matt had been too tired to come, his leg sore after a therapy session here in the hospital. It had been some welcome time alone for her as well. She wanted to surprise Matt with a nice dinner today.

But on her way to the grocery store, she had instead been called by the CPS office here on the island. Orlovsky's connection had proved valuable and she couldn't believe that things were finally moving along for them. Not only would she be eternally grateful if they finally had the chance to be parents, but she would be even more grateful for the precious girl to be given a good home, whether that was with them of someone else.

As she walked in with the groceries, she saw him video calling with Kelly. Although she didn't have internet here, they had managed to set up the laptop to connect with his phone as a hotspot and it had been welcome, especially as they were awaiting contact from Chicago and CPS.

He didn't hear Herr come in as he was chatting with his friend, talking about the little girl in the hospital.

''She is just the most beautiful little girl Kelly – I –''

''You better not boast for 10 minutes tomorrow at the CPS meeting,'' She laughed, so happy to tell him that the meeting had been set up with the help of Orlovsky.

He turned around, looking surprised at Gabby.

''Hey Kelly,''

''Hey Gabby,'' Kelly smiled, laughing at his friends surprised face.

''Really Gabby, they are meeting us tomorrow?'' Matt asked hopeful, excited.

''Yeah,'' she smiled, so happy to tell him.

He jumped up, grabbing the table before he could fall over before they shared a kiss.

''Kelly – sorry I just-'' he stammered as he was not sure what to say as the video call was still on, but he was blasted away by what Gabby had just said.

''Yeah no, talk to you later, let me know how the meeting went,'' Kelly smiled, so happy to hear that things were moving along for them. He wanted nothing more than for them to be happy. He knew about everything that had happened to them in the way of having a family and knew that this was a great chance for them. He wanted nothing more than to see his friends happy.

His arms around Gabby and kissing him on top of his head, she was so grateful to have this chance with him and hoped that it would finally work out for them.

They arrived at the CPS office with Gabby's car. She wanted to walk around the car to help Matt out of the car but as she walked around the car, he had already gotten out, so excited for the meeting in there.

He wanted to be careful with being hopeful but he couldn't help it. For the first time in a long time it seemed that things were finally going their way.

Walking inside the office, Gabby had her arm around him, worried he was going to fall. She had told him to take his wheelchair, but he had been too worried what impression his injuries and with that extent, his job, would leave on CPS would impact the decision if they could adopt the little girl. Gabby had lovingly called her Guapa as a nickname. As she didn't have a name yet, they didn't want to give her one either yet. Not before they knew if they could adopt her.

Giving her a name would only bond with her more and they knew that the heartbreak would become even worse if they were not able to adopt her then after all.

They were let in and the CPS officer looked a bit concerned as Matt almost fell over.

''Small work incident, will be sort in no time,'' he smiled friendly, a bit nervous.

Sitting down together, they introduced themselves and heard that Orlovsky had already put in for them and how much the Chicago branch had done their best. Both being first responders and having done a lot for CPS, it still meant a lot that these people had done their best to get them these meeting and put these kind words.

''So how did you get in touch with this little girl?''

''I was the one that found her at the hospital,'' Gabby explained as they talked about the time they had spend at the hospital and what they had done for her so far.

Talking about their situation in Chicago and leaving all the details that were needed, they looked nervous as they meeting seemed to be almost over.

''It will ofcourse be complicated since you live in Chicago and would take her there, but we are in close contact with the Chicago branch. I will talk to them and as soon as we know more, we will be in contact with you,'' she smiled at him.

''Are we even an option, considering we live in Chicago-''

''I think you would be very suitable, but we will need to figure it out since you would of course need to take her to Chicago. Let me talk to them and we will get back to you.

Soon they left the CPS office. Worried about it being a problem that they lived in Chicago, she hoped that it wouldn't be a problem and that eventually they would be able to take her to Chicago, even if it meant that they had to stay on Puerto Rico a little longer. With Matt having his therapy here now and him not being able to fly for a few weeks anyway, they hoped they could resolve this before that.

Not wanting to go home yet but instead go to the hospital to see the little girl, it felt even more special that they were here with her after the meeting they had just had. They knew that nothing was certain but they still had a good feeling about this meeting.

Arriving at the hospital, they were nervous to walk in after the meeting they had just had. Especially as they knew that she would soon be handed over to CPS.

They knew that even with their meeting with CPS today, her being surrendered to CPS meant that they could not spend as much time with her anymore.

She was wearing an outfit that they had bought for her.

Holding in her arms, Gabby was excited as after two weeks in the hospital, she seemed a lot more upbeat. It was sad to have seen how starved the little girl was and she felt sorry for the family that had left her outside.

As much as she wanted to be angry for doing this to this innocent, sweet little girl, she couldn't imagine how bad it had been that they had surrendered her.

She was holding her close, just happy to hold this little girl and hopeful for the future after everything. She knew that it was going to be a long process but she still hoped that eventually they would bring her home to a beautiful future.

Leaving her Matt's arms, she went to go get a bottle of formula from one of the nurses to feed her. As she was waiting for the bottle to be heated up, her phone rang once again, another call from CPS.

''Matt!''

Surprised he looked up, the girl in his arms starting to squirm.

''What?''

''They're planning a home visit in Chicago with Orlovsky!'' Gabby said as she came running in with a bottle of warm formula, her phone in her other hand.

''There is no baby room yet,'' he said concerned. Although the second bedroom in their condo was empty and clean, there was nothing for the baby yet. After they had lost their child and lost Louie, they had gotten rid of all of it.

''They know – but I thought we might be able to ask Kelly to help. Just put a crib and some stuff in there, we can always change it up,''

Matt wanted to protest for a second. Being a professional carpenter, he hated leaving the job to somebody else. He had so many ideas for the nursery but knew that it was something he had to let go for now. Although it was hard to just let it go, he knew he was in no shape to do all of it himself anyway.

''I know, it would be amazing if they helped us anyway,'' he smiled. As they were planning the nursery, Gabby fed her with the bottle.

''Gabby, it's happening, this girl – we are going to give her such a good life,'' Matt smiled, so hopeful.

''I know, soon you will both be my world,'' she smiled, kissing him gently as she held the little girl close to her. Maybe soon, their lives would finally be complete.
