Matt was relieved when he heard the door open and Kelly walked in. Daniela was babbling away in the little chair they used for feeding her, as he had just given her bottle as well as some mashed fruit.

'Hey, thanks you could make it!'

'Anytime if it means I can spend some time with this cutie,' Kelly said as he greeted his friend and took Daniela on his arm, the girl dozing off after just having eaten.

'You seem stressed,'

'Gabby has really been stressing me out about this appointment. It wasn't even something she wanted to do, but it is something I insisted on,' Matt admitted as he washed the last bits of formula out of the bottle.

'It isn't something she wanted to think about, I am sure,' Kelly nodded understanding.

'I know, neither do I, but with what happened to me four months ago and Daniela – we need to do this, especially if I am going to go back to the force,'

Kelly nodded, not knowing what to say. He could imagine that it was hard on Gabby to think about what was going to happen to Daniela incase something happened to them. However, with what had happened to Matt only a few months ago, he could understand why Matt was insisting on taking care of this.

'Alright, she should be good for a while now that she just had her bottle, Gabby left a list on the table with food's she tried and that she is not allergic for, there are extra clothes on the be-'

'Matt, I am not an idiot,' Kelly said as he saw his friend was nervous.

'Hmm- not sure about that,' he teased his friend, but knew he was right.

'Me and this little cutie? We will be fine. Might be a Cubs fan when you come back though,' Kelly said as he rocked Daniela in his arms.

'In this house, we support the Blackhawks and don't you dare to try and change that, Kelly,' Matt teased his friend some more, although he was grateful for his friend that Daniela could remain with somebody she knew while he and Gabby had to run some errands.

'Alright, you leave now, before you are late,' Kelly told Matt as he was grabbing his last belongs together.

'See you later Guapa,' Matt said as he kissed Daniela on his forehead, Kelly teasingly making some kissing noises towards him as he switched to the sports channel.

He had already ordered an UBER and quickly got in. As Gabby had worked this morning, she would meet him at the office. He couldn't drive on his own yet, but hoped he could in a few weeks, as his leg was getting stronger.

Gabby was already waiting for him at the lawyer's office. She seemed even more nervous than earlier this morning and only quickly pecked his lips as he walked in.

'Hey, sorry I am late,' he kissed her, saw she was nervous. The fact that he had almost been running late made him feel bad, knew that it had only stressed him out more.

'Hey, Kelly and Daniela okay?'

'All settled, watching sports,' Matt said as he sat down beside her.

'She might know more about baseball than me if she spends much more time with Kelly,' Matt joked as he held Gabby's hand, hoping to put her more at ease, but it didn't seem to happen yet.

It wasn't long before they were called into the lawyers office.

Matt started to feel nervous as well. Even bringing this up the first time two weeks ago, he knew how much it had upset Gabby.

'And you are here today to put together a will and testament in case something happens to you both?'

'Yeah, we have an adopted daughter now – so… I am a firefighter…and…' Matt said, not being able to finish the sentence and not daring to look aside at Gabby.

Going through the paperwork, Matt felt his stomach sinking as well, knew this was to blame on his own near-death experience a few months ago. It was the reason that he wanted to do this. He didn't want to think about his own mortality, or about Gabby's but he was also aware that he had almost died a few months ago.

Looking aside, Gabby had averted her eyes from him, instead looking out of the window at the grey skies. She hadn't want to do this anyway but also knew that this was something they had to do. Although she was no longer on the frontlines, he would return to the firehouse and return to the job that had almost cost him his life before.

But as much as he was right for doing this, she immediately thought back of the night she had arrived at the hospital after flying for all these hours. That she finally saw him in the ICU and she had no idea what their future would look like.

'She will end up in the care of Camilla Dawson, with Christy Casey as her financial guardian,' Matt said as he laid his hand on Gabby's under the table. Tears welled up in her eyes for just a second before she bit her lip, looking at him for a second before she nodded as they filled out the rest of the paperwork.

Sitting down in the car beside her, he laid his hand over hers.

'Hey, I know that wasn't something you want to think about, but it is good we did this,' he said as he saw her bottom lip shake.

'I know Matt, I just –' she didn't manage to say any more words before she burst out crying. He laid his arms around her, let her cry it out against his shoulder. His hand on her back, he caressed it as he tried to comfort her.

'You did really well in that office,'

'I didn't want to think about this, Matt,'

'I know, me neither. Just good to have it sorted - but I am – we are not going anywhere,' he said, kissing her on her cheek. Still holding her close, he felt that her tears were getting less.

'How about we drop by the pier for some dinner. Kelly is still watching the cubs anyway? Or you wanna go home to see Daniela?' Matt said gently as he tried to comfort her.

'Dinner sounds good, just a short dinner,' she said as she dried her tears.

Soon they had a table at the Italian restaurant by the pier, sitting together for a quick dinner with the two of them for the first time since they had gone to Puerto Rico together. As much as he didn't want to upset her again, he knew that this was something they had had to do today, even if Gabby didn't want to.

'I know we talked about me going to the force, but if you don't feel good about it, please let me know. I would be happy to work in arson, as long as I have you and Daniela,'

'No, you should return to the force,' Gabby said as she had her hands over his.

'You told me that when we didn't have Daniela yet. I can see how things could have changed for you,'

'Still think so,' she assured him.

'Thank you so much for being there today as well,'

'I mean, she is my child too, so I legally had to,' Gabby teased him but caressed his hand.

'It was hard, but it was good we did this, but please, for the love of God Matt, never have me thinking about this again,' she warned him and he nodded with a smile, knew it was only fair on her.

'Never,' he promised, 'Now about those mozzarella sticks you like so much…'

Holding her hand as they walked to the car by the water, he suddenly stopped.

'You okay,'

'Yeah, just – like you promised me you would never leave me again, I want to promise you I am never leaving you,' he said as he still held her hand, but stood close to her now, kissing her on her forehead as they stood by the water. His arms around her, they stood together for a bit as they thought about today.

'Let's go see my other favourite girl,' he finally broke up their hug, not wanting to think of his own mortality any time longer either and Gabby nodded.

Driving home, Kelly was on the couch, Daniela asleep against him as he was watching the match.

'Falling asleep during baseball, that's my girl!' Gabby laughed as they walked inside.

'We had a great time huh Daniela,' Kelly smiled as Gabriela took Daniela from him.

'I think she did just leave you a diaper present,' Gabby said as she took her daughter from him.

'Well, she is back in your care, goodnight guys!' Kelly said as he soon left.

'I will change her, you go take a relaxing bath, you deserve it after working and today,' Matt said as he kissed Gabby on his head and walked to the nursery with Daniela. Lately he had felt a bit more secure walking with her in his arms, not having fallen in a few weeks now.

Changing her diaper and changing her into her pajamas, he settled with her on the bed, happy to rest as well. Rocking her in his arms and looking at her big toothless grin, he didn't want to think about ever being away from her again either.

'Your two favorite girls are clean now too,' Gabby joked as she walked from the bathroom, sitting down on the edge of the bed as well. He smiled, his hand against the side of her face as they came closer and shared a kiss.

'I am sorry about breaking down today…just thinking of that day a few months ago. I never want to think about losing you again,'

'Good, because I never want to think about leaving you again either,' he told her again as he kissed her once more.

Laying against him and with their arms both around Gabriela, neither of them couldn't be happier with their little family and nothing would ever tear them apart.
