The Race
In the opening song of season 5 we see Coy at the sink wash the dishes and tosses a plate to Vance. In the episode "Lawman of The Year" Daisy makes a bet with the boys "The loser does the breakfast and does the dishes for a week". What if they lost the bet? How will breakfast taste? Will they break any dishes?
The Dukes were sitting at the kitchen table eating lunch. Uncle Jesse was sitting there watching Daisy, Coy and Vance arguing over who was the best driver.
Coy put his fork down and looked at Daisy, "What makes you think the jeep is faster than the General Lee?"
Vance looked at Coy, then at Daisy, "It just depends on who is behind the wheel."
"Well if you think you are better than me, how about we have a race after lunch, the General Lee against Dixie."
Uncle Jesse interrupted the cousins, "Now wait just a minute, you are not going to do no such thing. I don't want you kids to get yourself killed over who is the best drivers."
"Well then, Daisy shouldn't have challenged us to a race." Coy smiled at Daisy. "You're on."
After lunch, Coy and Vance got in the General Lee. Jesse got up from the table and followed Daisy outside. "Daisy, I hope you know what you're doing."
"Those boys think that since I'm a woman, I won't be able to beat them in the jeep." Daisy got in the jeep.
"You kids be careful now, you hear."
Daisy looked over at the boys, "We are going from the farm to the Boars Nest and back to the farm." The General Lee and Dixie sat side by side.
"Ready, set, GO!" Jesse bellowed.
They started off side by side then the General sped up and got in front of Dixie. Then they came upon a curve, the General Lee fell behind. Then they drove across some water that slowed both cars down. Daisy got on the CB and said, "I thought you boys were supposed to give me some competition here."
"Take it easy, wait till we get back on dry land." Vance said with a smile.
Daisy sped up and curved off to another road. "Where does she think she's going?" Coy said while looking in the direction that Daisy just went.
"Doesn't matter," Vance said, "We just have to make it back to the farm first. I hate cooking and I hate doing dishes."
"Me too." Coy agreed.
An hour later Daisy got to the farm first. She didn't see the General anywhere. She went inside the house and said. "Uncle Jesse, I made it. I told them boys that my jeep was faster than the General Lee."
"Maybe the boys ran into some trouble." Uncle Jesse started to worry. He knew without a doubt that the General Lee was faster than the jeep. Daisy parked the jeep behind the barn so the boys would think they were the first one's back to the farm.
When Coy and Vance pulled up, they saw Uncle Jesse sitting on the picnic table. Coy and Vance got out the General Lee. Coy said, "Ha, ha, I told Daisy that the General was faster than Dixie."
Daisy came out of the house and said, "What took you boys so long?"
Vance said, "All right, Daisy, you cheated. There was no way that you could have made from the farm, to the Boars Nest and back to the farm that quick."
"Just goes to show you that I am a better driver than the two of you are."
"I bet you took short cuts."
"Nope."
"Come on Daisy," Coy said, "you even took another road than we did. How do we know you didn't turn around and head back to the farm."
"Are you trying to get out of a bet?"
"Coy, it doesn't matter, we lost to a girl and we have to face it."
"Yep, so you better get a good night's sleep tonight. You'll be up at the crack of dawn getting breakfast ready." She headed in the house laughing. Uncle Jesse just sat there and stared at his nephews.
