Dante hummed with taking a look at Alexander guiding Shanoa through billiards before she tried to get the shot in, overshooting it and Dante catching the white ball as he spoke. "Easy there, Shano, I can't really be having you shattering my walls with such a hard shot."
"My apologizes, Dante." Shanoa looked unapologetic as she set the cue down with Alexander sitting on the table as Shanoa stepped over and took the billiard back. "It is just I was getting a bit of an interest in playing billiards that I thought I could give it a try." Dante huffed as she strolled back over and set the billiard into the triangle that Alexander removed, she kissing his cheek as she made another shot with the cue, this time getting three balls into the pockets. "Besides, I need to take up a new past time when I am here, and cleaning up or reading any books you got would just be a waste, it is a shock that Patty started fine-picking your 'wonderous' abode." Dante huffed as Patty smiled to the point before the pizza man dropped in and left with a decent note as Patty huffed to another round of pizza.
"Pizza again..." She looked forward with a huff. "So when do you think clients will start coming today, I suppose I probably better decorate the outside too."
"Ugh, give me a break." Alexander shook his head to another shot, but no billiards going in before he lightly took the cue and made his shot, getting two in as Dante sat down in speaking. "You saw the pizza boy's reaction, didn't you? Nobody who comes here can appreciate your fancy tastes." He waved it off as he spoke. "Just put everything back-" He trailed off as Patty turned to whoever was coming through the door now.
"Welcome, come on in!" Silence filled the room before a female voice hummed, Patty opening her eyes to the figure of a woman in shorts, holsters, and a short-button shirt, but what draw the real attention were the heterochromatic eyes that looked back, one bluish-green and the other red.
"Seems like your sense of style has improved a lot since we last met, hasn't it, Dante?" She took a look around to Patty's wonder, pushing the curtains open in looking out before she turned to Patty in speaking. "And then you... if I'm not mistaken, would be Patty Lowell." Patty was taken back as she asked.
"How do you know, am I famous or a kind of celebrity or something?"
"The little girl hanging around Devil May Cry has become quite the subject of gossip in this town." Dante cut in at Patty's gasp of amaze.
"Well, it's not like you came all this way, just to have a look at this young lady, now is it?" Patty growled as Dante took a bite of his pizza with a slight huff. "What are you here for? If it's about some job, thanks, but no thanks." The woman turned to him as she remarked.
"I see you're cold as always."
"Cuz' the only jobs you bring me are shit jobs and they don't pay." She huffed as she pointed it out.
"That's a fine way to talk..." She crossed her arms in peering at Dante as she spoke. "Are you aware of how much money you owe me?" Dante smirked as the woman got to the point of the meet. "But you get it, I'm here today to collect. You're the detective, you should have figured that out."
"Oh, Lady, I think you're the one who doesn't get it, my debt to you was paid off three years ago, now it is you sitting on your tab to me, on account of my accountant over there." The woman frowned in being reminded of that, the conversation switching up against her as he spoke. "However, you would be correct and I would be wagering a luck shot if I was deep in debt, Lady, so what would have been the wager." Lady walked over to the reformed fifteen as she staked it.
"If I sink the eight ball, you accept the job unconditionally."
"And if I had won in your miss, you would have forgave my debt and paid me twenty thousand in cash..." Dante smiled as he took another bite of his pizza. "Ah, what the hell, no bet, but I do like to see you sink those shots, so have at it. Tell me about the job."
"Alright." Lady aimed and fired, the balls flying all over to Patty's awe as Lady spoke. "I have been hired to investigate a motorcyclist known as 'Red-Eye' who has been the cause of several accidents on the road. The highway patrol thinks it's a reckless human, but I got my hunch. The lead would take me to the Devil's Nest biker gang who have been suffering from Red-Eye recently." The eight ball knocked into the others as Alexander counted three already pocketed.
"I get it, the authorities think that Red Eye is connected to the Devil's Nest, so they want to nip the problem in the bud."
"That's the idea." Lady answered with leaning on the table as the eight ball went in after five pocketed. "So, feel up to crashing a biker rally to get some answers in?"
"I can't deny the chance, considering a motorcycle myself, but as per my terms, I can't draw weapons on humans, it is not my style unless they fire the first shot." He finished up his pizza before getting up and storing the rest of the pizza in the fridge as he spoke with donning his red coat. "Introductions, however, are in order. You know Alexander and Patty." Lady nodded with turning to Alex and pausing to the woman who smiled with a slight edge to it, like a warrior ready for a fight. "The woman by Alexander's side is Shanoa, it took a few connections, but she and their adopted daughter are staying in the apartments next door while Alexander's branch of Devil May Cry is right on the other side."
"Sheesh, I should have called ahead."
"Yes, you should have..." The trio answered and Lady flushed to the knowing smiles on their faces before she led them out to the rally to investigate the matter...
Alexander and Shanoa kept a sharp eye out as Lady and Dante poked around for answers and they got it from Vincent, leader of the Devil's Nest. Three weeks ago, Vincent's older brother ran amuck against Red-Eye and wind up dead, Vincent vowing vengeance for him, Dante getting the feeling that he was roped up into a race, but he didn't take safeties for the race, convincing Vincent to not don his helmet either with night falling and Alexander frowning to Lady and Dante bantering, Dante handing Rebellion over, and the race was off.
"Alex..."
"Yeah." Alexander subtly conjured Vision and spoke. "Keep an eye out, if Red-Eye is not human, we need to know right away." Vision chirped quietly with Alexander subtly raising his arm to 'zoom in' on the two racers, Dante giving Vincent a race before he engaged the nitrous as Dante scoffed on the idiot using it now and they crossing the bridge before Vision screeched, the sound hurting everyone's ears as Alexander scoffed. "Wonderful... Shanoa!"
"Right!" Both bolted off at breakneck speeds as they charged across the length of the road, zooming across the bridge to Dante's surprise before both jumped with Alexander pulling out the Reaver and Shanoa conjuring forth Mercurius and struck, the once-human Red-Eye revealing itself as a cyclopean demon as it screeched to the sudden slug and icy strike it just faced before it tried to shred up Shanoa.
Alexander blocked the buzzsaw of a wheel with the body of Reaver, chipping the saw before it shattered, Shanoa shouting with lightning in her hands. "Vol Fulgur!" A series of lightning bolts roared to life in annihilating the demon before it toppled and she flicked out a rapier and leapt before stabbing the creature through the eye. "Haven't you heard? Speeding causes accidents on the roads." She ripped it free in flipping off and Alexander sheathing the shotgun and catching her as both nodded to the other as Dante huffed to Lady dropping in, having picked up her motorcycle to give chase as well.
"Guess that's that, your real job, Lady?"
"Yep, though you neglected to inform me that your wife was so experienced with killing demons, Alexander."
"Like Dante said, it took a few connections to get them here and I am happy to have them here." Alexander answered with Shanoa returning his side hug as Vincent caught up to them and mourned the loss of his brother, Red-Eye having drawn the both of them into illusions to trick them and kill, Dante shattering the bridge having gotten the message out to them in time...
Patty tapped on the drum set as she huffed to the return to the serious office that Dante worked with. "Even with this room back to the way it was, I still don't see any client."
"It's called a relaxation period, Pats. I don't deny that business can be slow, but both bounty and demon work can be quite rewarding." Dante flipped through the magazine as he spoke. "The last job should be coming through, if Lady hasn't taken it and left me with the bill, that bridge must have been a fortune to rebuild in the first place." He answered the phone and hummed in hearing Lady's voice before he cracked an eye open. "You realize that I can see you in that phone booth down the street, right?"
'What!? No, you can't-'
"Oh, black lace on the rims, nice temptation." Lady stilled her breath before looking around before spotting a one-eyed red orb with wings on the rooftops, chirping before flapping away toward Devil May Cry as Dante spoke. "Oh, don't worry about the money, Lady, Alexander already pulled some cash out for me and added to my tab, the only one I really am in debt to is Alexander. Stay awhile and take a load off, Alexander is hosting a nice steak dinner later this evening, so get dolled up."
'You absolute-!' Dante hung up as Patty blinked to the reaction before she spoke.
"You are the cockiest guy I have ever met."
"I'll take it. Luck is not on my side, but I don't really need luck with such great friends and buddies like Alexander by my side." He adjusted to the door opening and he speaking. "Welcome, Vincent, nice of you to drop by." The biker jumped to the mention and opened his mouth before Dante cut him off. "Lady didn't need to say much, just where I work. You're a good sort, and I am glad to have helped get you out of that rut that your brother's death had left you in." Patty hurried to make Vincent a cup as Dante rested the magazine on his face in speaking. "It's good to leave the past behind, the only one who can control your life is your own."
"...How do you know all this?"
"I had a brother too, don't know how he is doing these days, but we were tight, we may have fought for some time, but we loved each other and lived our lives as we believed them to be." He pulled the magazine off as he smiled. "Let's play a brief game of billiards, then we can race. i can see that wild fire in your eye, live free and fast, but keep your head on straight and you will be okay." Vincent blinked before laughing as he spoke to the cup set before him.
"You have got to be the best mind-reader or you just know how these things go sometimes."
"It's more the latter than the former." Dante spoke as he aimed to sink the eight ball. "Guys like us... we go where the wind blows, through hail and rain, we ride that road. We might fall and stumble, but it is a great life, I know." He smiled as he spoke. "I always wanted to own a motorcycle of my own." And the room cracked with the billiards as they bounced around the table and he managed to get that shot in with a smile on his face...
Lady tugged a bit at the suit that she was made to wear as she grumbled in standing outside the large room where the dinner was being held. "How the hell did Dante get me into this mess...?" She didn't want to even be there, without her weapons anyway, as Alexander has shown to be able to just conjure up weapons on the fly and his wife could just hurl lightning bolts and summon forth a rapier whenever she wants to, she liked it better to have something to protect her if things got out of hand.
However, this would be the first time she was invited to a gathering like this and she could see how Alexander is adjusting to their world, a pro against the con, and surely Alexander wouldn't just leave them unprotected in the first place. She steeled herself and knocked, barely even getting the second one in before the door opened and Patty beamed in a puffy pink dress as she spoke. "You're here! Come on in!" Lady yelped to getting dragged in before she looked about the new surroundings and blinked.
It was... elegant, but casual as well as the table spread was quite well-done with wine by the distant window and who she found there was a shock as she was released to Patty dancing around to the gathering of people there. She stepped over and paused at his side as he spoke, his white hair having been cleaned up and lightly hidden under a red fedora.
"Lady, nice of you to drop by?"
"Dante... you look... different..." Dante chuckled as he took off the fedora, setting it on the table with the chilled wine there before he took a glass and took a sip before speaking again.
"Well, between jobs and helping out with Alexander's gigs, I didn't think that I would be pulled into doing the 'done-up' look, Mom would be ecstatic that I can NOT be a slob and actually look good for once." Lady snorted as she took the opposite seat.
"That must have been a sight to see, little Dante struggling to even look good for anyone."
"It was a real hassle..." Dante mused with another sip before he looked out the window. "But... it felt nice... and now, I have something to enjoy than just sitting in the office for another job, this little meet may seem a bit out of place, but it's... it's something to remind me of better times. Alexander may have decided to throw this dinner with the purpose of getting everyone familiar with each other, but he has also given me a nice memory to have in this town."
"I suppose..." Lady answered with getting a glass for herself and taking a drink too. "So... how have you been?"
"Decent... I can admit that Temen was a real mess, for all of us." Lady nodded as Dante continued, the party ongoing with Morrison chuckling to Patty and Mist ballroom dancing and Mist getting her toes stamped, but she was patient. "About a year ago... I got a job on the mysterious Mallet Island." Lady frowned as she had heard of Mallet Island briefly through Arkham, an isle on the thinnest line between the Human and Demon World as Dante continued, Alexander and Shanoa actually displaying a remarkable skill in dancing, with him in a regal teal suit and Shanoa in a lime green dress, laces done up from her chest to her hips with slits down from the thighs and a brief glance of laces barely binding the back up with what might have been arcana runes and glyphs trailing across her back.
"Turns out the big, bad, Demon Emperor Mundus wanted to reign over the Human World and finally had enough strength to do it after twenty years." Lady felt her hand tighten as she whispered, twenty years back was... Dante caught that motion as he spoke. "Yeah, he didn't need to send minions to do his dirty work to get what he was after."
"...I'm sorry..."
"Don't be, it was a pain, I'll tell ya." Dante hummed as he downed his glass and poured out another. "He used up his lieutenants to best me, but I came out in winning against one of the Phantoms, the thunderbird Griffin, a bio weapon Nightmare, and the silent knight Nelo Angelo." Lady nodded as Dante took a sip and finished. "Of course, it all happened because of Trish, a demon modelled after my own mother."
"...Was she good...?"
"We were partners for a time, she left to explore the human world a bit more and to utilize her vast demonic knowledge in finding out more of what might have been left behind and what would still be roaming." Dante slumped as he swished the drink a bit. "She actually didn't hate me, she just was following the wrong guy and he paid her back in pain." Lady bit her lip before she asked about this 'Trish'.
"What does she look like?"
"Why, so you can ask her on a date?" Dante smirked and Lady nearly choked on her drink to Dante's chuckle before he spoke. "Radiant blonde hair, emerald green eyes, Mundus played the face down well, but she works it with leather pants and brassieres and she has got some stormy powers at her command." Dante smiled as he stared into the glass. "She hasn't called for some time, still interested in roaming and seeing what to see. Alexander did try to invite her, but I don't know if she accepted or refused."
"I would hope not, no offense to you, Dante, but I don't want to meet with any female partner of yours."
"True enough!" Dante laughed and Lady joined the laughter before they settled down and he spoke. "Oh geez... This is some really strong wine... I shouldn't even be getting a buzz, but I am seeing four of you, Lady." This alarmed her as she wasn't feeling any buzz and nearly exclaimed what was happening before her voice spoke.
"Oh dear, did I use the wrong wine?" Lady looked to Shanoa who took the bottle, poured out a glass, and took a sip, tasting it before she huffed. "Yes, I did. Alex did say that he managed to distill Holy Water into a fine wine, but I must have forgotten that it was with the regular wines as well."
"So..." Lady shifted her eyes about as Shanoa explained.
"It doesn't hurt any demons, just makes them drowsy, you could say that it is the same effect as a first-time drunk. Dante will be fine." Dante answered that with putting his glass down carefully before slumping in his seat and going out cold as both ladies sweat dropped. "I'll let Alex know that Dante is down for now."
"That might be a good thing." Shanoa left the pair there and Lady sat back down, feeling a bit of a haze, but it was gone real quick. Guess the close encounters with Arkham and the Temen-Ni-Gru would have some lingering effects, but nothing too harmful as Lady stared forward to Dante and huffed as she stood up and joined the dinner proper and found that, while Shanoa was sometimes a bit clueless to things or another.
She and Alexander made a mean combo of a family, that steak dinner was either sent from on high or she had been blessed with a life-changing moment, steak is not suppose to taste that divine! That also answers why Patty fainted to the taste within the minute and Morrison looked like he was doubting his whole life. The family that made it just had sweat drops on their heads in trying to tell them that the food wasn't that great, but even Dante, once he had woken back up and had a bite, looked like he had found the second coming of Eva and Sparda and didn't know how to react to it.
All in all, the dinner was a success, though they had to turn in for the night, even lending Lady a room to sleep the night away, it a safe haven on all of them...
