Chapter 31-
Charlie's POV-
"And now for the most important part of our plan,"
Buzz.
Buzz.
"So, like I was saying," I attempted to remain calm, forcing a smile onto my face. "What we will do next is…"
Buzz.
Buzz.
Buzz.
"What now?" I scowled at the room at whole, shutting my eyes tight, the others unaware of the reason behind my sudden outburst. Of course, as was expected!
No one ever understood.
Contrary to what others believed, I too was the proud owner of a kickass power. It wasn't as awesome as Bella's- that was a rather mighty target to achieve, but yet it was something worth mentioning.
The irony of that statement being that no one knew about it. Not even Tanya.
I just never shared it with anyone.
It felt too normal a thing to share.
My power was a part of me, and as such why boast and create a big deal?
Anyhow, I could tell when someone was using their power around me or on me. It was like a constant hum that rang in my ears…and just never stopped.
Not until said person stopped using their power on me.
It didn't matter whether the vampire was manipulating me through the power of their mind or in physicality. I would always know.
And considering Bella was not using her power at the moment, and Stefan and Vladimir had no particular powers to speak of, the vampire using their power on me held the coat of invisibility.
Wonderful.
Just what we needed.
"Charlie…"
"Kindly excuse me." I ignored Stefan's slightly suspicious expression, heading towards the only secluded corner in the room, grateful that the others went back to doing their thing, whispering the words out, "Reveal yourself. If you didn't want to talk, you shouldn't have bothered disturbing me."
Buzz.
Buzz.
Buzz.
"Oh, come on!" I frowned in annoyance, running a hand through my hair. "This gets old rather fast. Now speak."
Buzz.
Buzz.
"Fuck this shit. If you don't want to talk, I am going."
I turned to walk in the opposite direction, as expected a voice calling me from the behind.
"Fine. I will talk."
Great.
Thank you, your highness!
"Who are you?" I raised an eyebrow in question, the vampire in front of me unfamiliar to my sharp mind. I hadn't seen him before; how had he even found us?
"I am Afton. I am a part of the Volturi."
Oh.
Was he here to attack?
Damn. How was I supposed to fight someone who could go invisible before I even planned my move?
"I am not here to attack." He immediately clarified, reading my expression of wariness, "In fact, I am here to help."
"How?"
And why should I trust you?
"Aro…" he paused, an expression of sheer devastation appearing on his face, "he killed my mate…my wife. I can't live without her. I don't want to."
"I am sorry."
I didn't know vampires could love this deeply and wholly.
With Tanya…I loved her. Of course.
It just wasn't an obsession.
Rather, I believe it was convenient.
She was lonely; I was lonely.
It just fit.
Not to forget we did have a pretty awesome sex life. She was rather experimental in bed! Wink. Wink.
Especially when she went down and did that thing with her tongue…
Moving on, yes, I liked spending time with her and did want to spend more time with her…but could I live without her in my life?
Probably, yes.
It just always had been so between the two of us.
It wasn't strange or worth a ponder when the two of us were together. Though, when I looked at other mated couples, it surely did get me questioning.
Were we even actual mates?
I did feel the bond to her.
Who knew now?
"Why did he kill her? If you don't mind me asking."
"She…" Afton let out a cry, "Demetri, a fellow guard member, he ran away. Aro blamed my Chelsea for it."
Oh.
So, indirectly she had been murdered for something we had done.
Can't say I feel guilty about it!
"How did you find this place?"
"I stalked Aro using my coat of invisibility. I was actually searching for a weakness to get him down to his knees when I came across this treasure. I don't regret it."
"He doesn't know you are here?"
"Of course not."
I nodded my head in agreement. "Now? How do you plan to use this information?"
"Depends." He frowned to himself. "How do you plan to use me in your grand plot?"
"I…" I stumbled over my words, dry air emitted out of my lips.
How much did he know about our plan?
Since when was he even stalking us?
"I don't blame you." he smiled. "Aro took the decision to kill her. It isn't on any of you."
"Well, thank you." I reluctantly admitted. "I will have to think over how to add you to our plan, this wasn't expected, obviously. But just to make it clear, Aro will be destroyed and dead by the time we are done with him."
"Suits me perfect. With Chelsea gone, I have nothing holding me back in that castle. I will join her soon, but only after I have finished my work in this world."
"I can't say I relate, but anyhow, I hope you both reunite soon."
He nodded his head, a small smile on his face.
"So, anyhow, how are you planning to destroy Aro ahead?" he questioned. "He is alone. All the important ones have deserted him. Felix is only muscles; Renata and Heidi can't fight to save their lives."
"Well," I smirked in amusement, "the next part of my plan is mind games. We will now play with his mind. He will come to believe that Didyme has come back to extract revenge on him. The poor thing will be so tortured...he will believe that he has lost his sanity…"
"Actually," Afton grinned wide, "I can help in making this more fun and definitely believable. What if the things in his room were to actually move? It would seem like Didyme's really there around him."
Oh!
I like that.
I really like that.
"Let's do this." I offered my agreement, my eyes wide in anticipation of the coming part.
