It was around ten o'clock in the morning when Huelene began to stir from her slumber. She yawned as she stretched the blankets away from her body. She got up from the couch and rubbed her belly after rubbing her eyes.
Huelene took a look around and realized she wasn't in her own home. She couldn't remember where she was until she realized she'd come in to see her father, Huey, and the two of them reunited with each other and talked about him and her mother.,
Then she got sleepy and went to sleep.
Huelene was torn between going to rouse Huey up and letting him sleep in. She didn't want to cross any of his boundaries. She also had no idea where he was in his house. Plus, he could be one of those people that sleep naked, and she knew for a fact she didn't want to see any of that.
Huelene was preparing to return to her seat on the couch and wait for Huey to wake up so she could continue questioning him about him and her mother. However, before she could sit down, the doorbell rang. She wasn't sure whether or not she should answer the door because it wasn't hers, but it may be important.
Huelene just stood there staring at the door when the doorbell rang again. Then whoever was behind the door kept ringing the doorbell until they got a response. Huelene sighed and went to answer the door because this individual seemed to know Huey. If they don't know you, they won't ring the doorbell like that.
When she opened the door, she was greeted by an African American woman with a gorgeous face that resembled her mother's, hazel-colored eyes, and long, curly hair similar to Huey's. She was about Huelene's height, although a touch higher, and she was carrying grocery bags.
"Hi, who are you?" Huelene politely asked as the woman looked Huelene up and down.
"I'm Adaline, Huey's wife, who are you, and what are you doing in my husband's house?" Adaline sternly questioned in a jealous manner.
Huelene felt a shiver down her spine as she was face to face with Huey's wife. She was so nervous because she was hoping she could avoid this part of her mission.
Huelene didn't want to cause any trouble between Adaline and Huey because of questions she had about her mother. It was obvious Huey was still in love with Jazmine and she wondered if his wife knew about it.
"Umm, I respectfully rather not answer," Huelene nervously spoke trying to avoid the question.
"You rather not answer; you're an unknown stranger in my husband's that I have never seen before and I'm sure he's never seen you before either. He doesn't have anybody over except his family members, so who are you?" Adaline sternly asked once again.
Huelene bit her tongue and started to back up away from Adaline as she was scowling at her.
"I'm calling the cops if you don't give me an immediate answer," she said which made Huelene even more nervous.
"I'm...I'm...I'm," she tried to say.
"She's Huelene Freeman, my daughter, Adaline," Huey spoke from behind as he was coming out of the hallway. Huelene breathed a sigh of relief because her father was here to the rescue.
"Daughter?" Adaline questioned confused.
She closed the door behind her and went to set the grocery bag's on the counter.
"Huey I don't mean to try and be in your business but since when did you have a daughter?" Adaline once again asked jealously. Huelene looked back at Huey was seemed unphased by all of this.
"Well, honestly, I don't have to answer that question because as you said before it's none of your business," Huey said nonchalantly.
"I'm your wife and you should answer," Adaline spoke.
"Ex-wife!" Huey corrected.
"Oh my God, Huey it's not even official yet," Adaline said a bit irritated.
"Yet!" Huey emphasized.
Huelene was just shocked to hear that her father was getting a divorce. It made her question, why, but it wasn't any of her business. From one thing she could hint that they argued over a simple question.
"I swear I hate when you do that," Adaline spoke angrily.
Huelene didn't want this to go on any longer so she decided to step in. "I'm sorry to jump into this, but I'm Huelene Freeman, and to answer your question, I just told him about this news yesterday, and I'm 30 years old," Huelene said answering Adaline's question.
Adaline looked relieved but also a little shocked at the same time.
"If you don't mind me asking, who is your mother?" Adaline asked, calmed down at the moment.
Huelene didn't know if she answer that question because she didn't know if Adaline knew about Jazmine.
"Um, Adaline, she doesn't know who her mother is," Huey stepped in once again.
"Oh...I'm sorry for asking, I was just curious," she said. Huelene didn't like how Huey lied to Adaline but it was probably for a good reason.
"You say you're 30 years old?" Adaline questioned once again.
"Yes ma'am!" Huelene answered.
"Huh...you're close to our eldest daughter's age," Adaline implied.
"Daughter, who?" Huelene asked confused.
"Our daughter, Jazmine, she's 27 years old," Adaline said as Huey held his head down out of guilt. Adaline didn't notice but Huelene did.
"Oh wow, that's nice, I always wanted a sister around the same age as me," Huelene spoke out of excitement. "Maybe you two should meet each other someday. You should attend her baby shower that'll happen in a couple of weeks from now," Adaline suggested.
"If I don't have my ultrasound to go to I'll see if I can attend," Huelene said open to the offer.
"Ultrasound...wait, are you pregnant?" Huey asked out of concern.
"Um, yes, I'm about to be at 4 months, my wife and I are very excited about the baby," Huelene said smiling at the idea of it.
"Oh, well congratulations on your upcoming newborn! Maybe if you and Jazmine start to click, you guy's babies can grow up together," Adaline said out of hope.
Huelene started to feel more comfortable around Adaline, mostly because she wasn't scaring her anymore. The woman was just generally asking her questions and she seemed inviting to her.
"Yeah, let's hope (that's if I meet her)," Huelene said with her fingers crossed.
"Have you eaten yet?" Adaline asked Huelene as she shook her head.
"Well we can't have you or the baby starving so I'll cook you something," Adaline offered.
"There's no need for that Adaline, I'll just take Huelene to go get something to eat," Huey said as Adaline stopped from entering the kitchen.
"Okay, that's fine!" Adaline said a little upset.
"Give me a sec, I'll go get ready," Huey said fleeing towards his room.
Huelene stood alone in the room with Adaline once again. It was quiet between the two of them until Adaline asked: "So, what made you come looking for Huey?"
"Um, growing up no one ever wanted to inform me who my parents were, so I went behind their backs to find out for myself. The hospital decided to help me find who my father was and they told me it was him. At first, I didn't believe it until I saw a picture of him and I looked just like him," Huelene began.
"You do have his face," Adaline admired.
"Yeah, and so before I decided I was going to meet Huey, I did a background check on him to make sure he wasn't dangerous," Huelene said, "As you should!" Adaline added.
"And I went around looking for him and one of his friends named Caesar told me where he lived. So I came here, told him I was his daughter, and showed proof of DNA results," Huelene said pointing to some power work on the counter.
"Ah, I see, so you have no clue of who your mother is?" Adaline asked once again.
"No, my mother is dead," Huelene sadly spoke as Adaline's face looked shocked.
"I'm sorry for your lost, do you know what she died of?" Adaline questioned.
"No, I have no clue, I was just told she died of some disease that wasn't curable," Huelene answered. "I came here to find out more about her," Huelene said as Adaline just stared at her.
"I hope you do! But you might not have your chances here because Huey was with a lot of girls. It's best if you go back to the hospital and try and have them find your mother, and you could do a background check on her from there," Adaline warned.
"Okay, I'll keep that in mind!" Huelene said being nice. She did a background check on Jazmine but she couldn't find much information about her since she died at a young age. The only thing she found out about her that she didn't know was that she worked as a nurse and had got her license early when she got out of high school.
It was good to know her mother was out there saving lives.
But she didn't like how Adaline made her mom seem like she was one of those girls my dad just carelessly messed with. And she made Huey seem like he hoed around when he was younger. She couldn't even imagine her father getting with other girls back in his day.
She didn't like it but she wasn't going to say anything.
Huey had come down the hallway dressed and ready to go. He had his keys and wallet in his hands.
"You ready Hue?" Huey asked as Huelene wanted to squeal at the fact her father had already given her a nickname.
"Yes!" she said following behind him to the door.
"It was nice meeting you Ms. Adaline," Huelene said as Adaline smiled: "You too!"
Huey left out of the house to head to his truck whilst Huelene closed the door behind them and followed him to his truck. It was one of the new models of the F150 and it was silky black.
Huey was already in his truck and started it up while he waited for Huelene to get into the passenger seat. When she got in they took off towards iHop where Huey would buy her breakfast.
