The Persistent Clan Head
Naruto/Tsume
"Another fail? Really Naruto?" Minato's tired voice asked his son. Naruto just sighed at the look his father gave him.
"They didn't understand what it meant to be Genins, father." Minato just sighed. Why was Kakashi rubbing off on his son? Though to be fair Naruto wasn't one to be late. He looked to the wall where a clock was and just sighed. Why was his student always an hour late? Luckily for the Hokage he told Kakashi a time to show up earlier than he needed to be.
"You have to take the responsibility to take on a team, Naruto." The whiskered man in front of the Hokage just deflated. This caused the occupants in the room to chuckle. Naruto just shot the two old advisors a look.
"Your father is right, Naruto." Sarutobi puffed his pipe. "You must take on a team if you wish to be Hokage." Naruto knew what they were saying was true. He just enjoyed being alone and taking on A-rank missions with an assigned team.
Ever since Itachi had to leave the service because his illness got too bad and Shisui was blinded by that freak Danzo, Naruto just preferred being alone. He loved his old team, he loved the ANBU, and most importantly he hated seeing the ones closest to him get hurt. Though he understood what his father was telling him. He understood what Sarutobi meant. He needed to take a team, if he truly wanted to take his father's place one day.
"Iruka is a great Sensai for teaching the new batch of academy students." This wasn't the first time he heard that name. He hasn't met the man yet but he heard nothing but great praise from his dad and the old man. "This year looks like a great year. This generation truly possesses the Will of Fire. I expect you to take a team, Naruto." Minato tried to be stern with his son but he couldn't help but be a little soft on the young man. He knew how much he hurt. Though he did wish he could be as stern as his wife.
"Say Naruto-kun, why don't you go scout them out?" Hiruzen smiled at the boy. He loved the boy just like a grandson. He practically was, seeing how the boy - much like his father- was trained by Jirayia.
"I agree with him." Naruto only sighed, making sure everyone in the room heard it. "I know Itachi's little brother will be there."
"That little runt is actually trying to follow in his brother's footsteps?" Naruto often saw Sasuke when he visited Itachi. The boy didn't talk much.
"Huh. I heard he is going to be number one this year." Hiruzen coughed a bit from his pipe. "He might even surpass you, Naruto-kun." Said person only raised a brow. He remembers the academy. Him and Itachi were always switching spots for 1st and 2nd. Shisui was a close third. Both him and Itachi were very close in skill, though Shisui was the best with genjutsu.
"Fine…" Naruto only seethed at the smiles from both the billy goat and his father. "But that doesn't mean I will take a team."
"Fine." Minato's simple reply was. He smiled at his son who gave him a smile back. "Don't be late for dinner tonight. Your mother won't be happy." Both father and son shuddered at that. Even Hiruzen shivered. When Kushina was angry, everyone felt her wrath.
"Trust me, I won't." Naruto started to walk to the door and called back to his father. "I still remember the last time." Both men shuddered again.
As Naruto made for the door, it opened and one Kakashi Hatake opened the doors. The single eyed man just nodded to Naruto. Being the student of his father, Kakashi was practically an older brother to Naruto. Though both weren't that affectionate to each other. In fact Naruto just gave the man a glare. The silver haired man just gave him an eye smile. Kakashi was the reason for Naruto to be in the doghouse, so to speak, with his mother. Why did he get baited into a spar 5 minutes before dinner? He should have known to just go straight home.
LINE BREAK
Naruto watched as the academy students spar. He couldn't help but be impressed, though if he had to admit his class was far more competitive. He could still remember the purple haired girl who loved dango. Anko never held back in taijutsu spars. Naruto sometimes could even feel his bruised ribs years after.
He watched as each and every student fought. He couldn't help it. He loved the field, he loved the thrill of the fight. He loved the danger, years in ANBU made sure of that. His mother hated it, especially at a young age, but she knew him well. She trusted his teammates. He smiled at the memories. Even after long missions, where he would be out of the village for weeks, his team would be able to come back to a warm meal his mother made for them. They would tell tales and hype up stories, at least him and Shisui would since Itachi just sat and listened with a small smile, as his mother just smiled and cooked for them. He was so lost in thought he never noticed someone was calling him.
"Hey you!" Naruto shook his head and looked down. A kid with a puffy, furred jacket and a small dog on his head was calling him. "What are you smiling at, pervert?" Naruto was shocked at this assessment. Pervert? He looked to his left and right to see if he saw Kakashi reading his Icha Icha or Jiraiya was in town and 'researching'. Seeing none of that he realized the kid was talking to him.
"Pervert? Who do you think you are calling a pervert, Dattabayo?!" Naruto said, shaking his fists for emphasis. He wasn't a pervert…at least not a big one.
"I am calling you a pervert!" The dog on his head yipped. "Smiling at us kids! Are you looking for a fight?" Naruto was about to respond when their sensei came over.
"Kiba, what are you doing?" The sensei was so focused on his student he didn't see the Jonin in front of the kid. Naruto was shaking his fist at the kid in an exaggerated manner. Who does this kid think he is?
"This pervert" Kiba pointed at Naruto. "Was looking at us."
"Pervert?" Iruka looked to where the Inuzuka pointed. He was shocked to say the least. He nearly choked at what he thought was the Hokage for a second. Then he realized the Jonin was lacking the cloak and he had whisker marks on his face. "Oh! You are Naruto, correct?"
"Uh Yeah." The blonde said scratching his neck at his childish actions. "Sorry for disturbing your class. I was just caught up in some memories."
"I see." The scared Chunin looked back at his student. "Kiba, this is Naruto Namikaze, the Hokage's son."
"I don't care who he is." Kiba just narrowed his eyes. "All I see is a pervert watching little kids." Naruto narrowed his eyes at the boy, he wasn't above showing this kid a lesson.
"Kiba, Naruto-san is not a pervert. He is a Jonin of the village who was probably just watching the sparing matches." Iruka looked at Naruto hoping that was the case. If he was actually a pervert watching the kids he would just talk to the Hokage.
"Yes, that is correct." Naruto looked the man in the eyes and smiled. "My father said it would do me some good in case I am going to become a Jounin-Sensei this year."
"See. Kiba you can't go around accusing everyone of doing something wrong." The boy just huffed. "Go join the rest of the class. I will dismiss you all in a few moments after we talk about today's spars." The boy nodded and walked away, not without both him and Akamaru shooting Naruto a look which the blonde returned. "Sorry I didn't introduce myself, Naruto-san. I am Iruka, a teacher for the academy."
"Ah, so you are the famed Iruka-sensei my dad and the old goat are always talking about." Naruto held his hand out and Iruka shook it with a blush. He didn't know the Hokage and Lord Third talked about him. "It is nice to meet you, Iruka-san. Though please just Naruto. Honorifics are annoying."
"I see. Well Naruto just call me Iruka then." The men smiled at each other. "Well I must dismiss my class, enjoy your day."
"You as well, thank you." The Chunin smiled and walked back over to give his class some pointers before dismissing them for the day.
Naruto smiled at the man. He was nice and level headed. He understood why his father and Jiji talked so much about him. Now with not much to do he debated two things. See if Kakashi would like to spar or a prank. A devilish smile took his face. He knew the best way to get back to Kakashi. Now where was Guy when you needed him?
"So what does the Hokage's runt want with academy students?" A rough, female voice asked. Naruto just looked to his right and nearly jumped out of his skin.
There next to him stood the Inuzuka clan head, Tsume. She looked at Naruto like he was a piece of meat. In her eyes he probably was. He didn't interact with the woman much but in the few times he did she caused a little fear in him. She was wild and always had this feral look about her. He heard many stories of her mission prowess. Her and her teammate, Kuromaru, were known as great trackers and great tacticians when it came to battle. He could see the predator look in her face and that feral grin.
"Tsume-san." Naruto nodded to the shorter woman. She never let her grin drop. He noticed her partner wasn't nearby. "How can I help you?"
"Now Naruto-kun, you don't have to use honorifics." She smiled showing off her canines. Naruto gulped at seeing just how sharp they were. "Though I wouldn't mind if you called me 'Tsume-chan'."
"I..I don't think that would be polite." He didn't know why he was nervous. It wasn't fear that made him nervous, Naruto didn't fear much -though his mom was one of those things- and the things he did fear was not some clan head. What was it?
"Who cares?" She asked though he knew it wasn't a real question. "So what brings you here? Knock some girl up and now you got a snot-nosed brat to take care of? I reckon it is that girl over there that is yours!" She pointed to a pink-haired girl sitting next to the Yamanaka clan heir. Both girls were currently glaring at each other.
"Uhh no. I don't think I got a girl pregnant." Naruto knew he didn't. Though there was that one time…he shook his head.
"Uh-huh. I am sure a bachelor like you would have a ton of pups by now." The shorter, musciler woman crossed her arms. Her flak jacket allowed her to show off her arms. Naruto noticed the sleeves of the woman's shirt were hidden under the jacket. He knew the summer time was approaching and Konoha was about to be very hot. He could already feel his own flak jacket feel heavier than normal. "Unless you are one of those who cut and run?" He could see Tsume's eyes narrow. He knew her old husband ran off a few years ago.
"Please Tsume, if I had a child I would care for it with my life." The older woman nodded at his statement. She accepted that, though she was still bitter after her husband. If she ever caught wind of that man again she would sick every dog in the Inuzuka compound on him. With that thought a dark grin took over her features. Naruto only shivered. Though he wouldn't admit to anyone that he was a little aroused.
"That is good to hear." Tsume looked the younger man up and down. She remembered when he was a little squirt. It seems the years did him good.
His hair was even more blonde than his fathers, his eyes were such a pretty blue, his face was the same as her friend Kushinas, and the whisker marks made him look even more handsome. His smile would light up any room he was in. He was taller than her now, probably just taller than his father, instead of the usual muscular body types like the ones in her clan he was more lithe though she knew he had defined muscles under that orange and black clothing. How did he make orange look good? Tsume's mouth started to salivate at what may be underneath.
"Yeah I doubt my mother would let me live if I did." He shuddered at the thought. "Say Tsume, don't you have a son now?" She went to reply though her son stopped her.
"Hey mom! Why are you talking to the Pervert?" Naruto just looked annoyed at the approaching boy. Not even noticing what he said.
"Pervert?" Tsume raised a brow and looked to the man to her left.
"This little brat thinks I was looking at the little kids." Naruto waved a fist at the boy. "I already told you brat, I am not a pervert."
"I don't believe you!" The dog agreed with him. Naruto just sighed and deflated some. He knew he wasn't going to win this argument.
"Kiba, what did I tell you about being so loud?" The boy gulped and looked at his mother. Though Tsume wasn't necessarily mad at her loud son, she was a little miffed at being interrupted as she talked to the handsome son of the Hokage.
"Sorry mother!" The boy was quick to say. He and Akamaru both knew to be scared of the Inuzuka clan head. She was a force to be reckoned with.
"Mother?" Naruto perked up and raised a brow at Tsume. Looking back at Kiba he saw the resemblance. He now made out the Inuzuka tattoo marks on each cheek and the facial resemblance. How did he miss that?
"Yes, Naruto-kun. This loud mouth brat is my son. Kiba this is-"
"The pervert." Kiba said as a statement. Only he failed to realize he made a huge mistake. He just interrupted his mother as she was talking.
"YOU THINK YOU CAN INTERRUPT ME YOUNG MAN!" The fiery woman let out grabbing onto the boy's ear in a pinch. Said boy only let out a whine at his mistake. The scene was comical to Naruto but as the two yelled at each other he made his escape.
With a sigh he ran home.
Line Break
Naruto strolled through the village in a relaxed posture. Thankfully his father wasn't upset with him after telling him he won't be taking a team this year, though the jonin did promise to take one the following year. Minato just smiled at him with a knowing look. It was like he knew what his son would do.
When Naruto opened up his eyes he found himself at the training grounds, specifically training ground 7. He smiled at the memories he made here. He could remember Shikaku-sensei and his infinite wisdom teaching Itachi, Shisui and himself. He could still make out the grooves in the earth from being kicked during his genin test by said Jonin Commander. Though at the time the man wasn't the commander, he was just a trusted friend of his dads. He could see it now, both Itachi and him trying to break Shisui's genjutsu. Though Itachi is definitely better at genjutsu than himself, Shisui was in another league of his own. He could remember many missions of the boy tricking countless enemy shinobi. He smiled at remembering his younger years.
With a sigh Naruto began his training. He started with taijutsu, though first started with pushups and situps (Guy would be so proud), expertly hitting the dummies in the training area. Though he wasn't a taijutsu expert, he could definitely hold his own with other jonin shinobi. He moved on to ninjutsu after a few hours. This was his expertise. He combined his speed with his many affinities to perfect his moves. He was about to go through the hand signs for a wind jutsu he was testing out when he heard multiple people approaching. He could smell a dog with them. Oh great.
"Oh I did not believe someone would be here." A female voice stated. He turned around to see Kurenai and three genin behind her. Her team consisting of a Hyuga, Aburame, and one Inuzuka who was a thorn in his side. Though he noted that three big clans where attached to her team, they seemed to be a tracker team.
"Hehe sorry didn't know a team was assigned here." Naruto said with a scratch to the back of his head. "Good to see you Kurenai."
"You as well, Naruto." The red-eyed woman smiled at him. If she wasn't secretly dating Asuma she would have most likely gone after the blonde. She knew many of the shinobi, men and women alike, went after the younger man. "Yes, I believe our team was assigned-"
"Kurenai-sensei, why is the pervert here?!" Kiba asked with a feral grin. He would mess with the blonde man whenever he got the chance. His grin widened when said man gave him a dirty look.
"Pervert?" The genjutsu user raised a brow at the Hokage's son.
"It was a misunderstanding." Naruto waved off. Though a thought struck him. "Say Kurenai, why don't you give me 5 minutes with this little genin. Maybe I could show him to respect his adults." Kurenai didn't miss the way Naruto cracked his knuckles or the way his eyes seem to show off his pleasure in Kiba's soon to come pain.
"I don't believe that is a good idea." A deep voice said getting close to the group assembled. The man was followed by three new genin. A platinum-blonde haired girl too busy looking at her nails, a heavy set boy currently eating a bag of chips with a pleased look on his face, and a black-haired boy that looked dead to the world. The legendary Ino-Shika-Cho trio.
"Asuma-sensei, why are we here?" Shikamaru asked in a bored tone.
"Well Shikamaru I was planning for a group exercise." The boy just muttered a 'troublesome'. "But it seems this training ground was already given to another team." The son of Hiruzen puffed his cigarette.
"Asuma-sensei, can we find team 7?" The blonde asked. "I want to see Sasuke-kun train." The man just sighed. Naruto chuckled which caused all eyes to look in his direction.
Shikamaru was the only one to recognize the man, he remembered his father inviting the man and two Uchiha for dinner one night. Though he fell asleep half way through said dinner. He could still hear his mother screeching at him. Troublesome woman.
"Right. I will go find another training ground." Naruto rubbed his chin in thought. "I wonder if the Forest of Death is good this time of year?" He didn't ask anyone in particular.
The genin was confused on what the Forest of Death was and the two sensei's just looked at each other. It seems the ANBU truly does make one go crazy.
Naruto continued his stroll through the village. He decided not to visit the Forest of Death. As he was passing a shop a woman came barreling out running him over.
"I don't want to shop here anyways!" The purple haired woman yelled at the shop. The shop owner just huffed and walked back inside. "Come on Remy. It seems our business is not wanted here." Naruto was confused on who Anko was talking to until he looked down to see one of the thickest snakes he ever saw in his life. It slithered it's way to Anko.
"Hey Anko!" He waved at his childhood friend. She looked in his direction and gave him a big grin.
"Naruto-kun!" He wasn't expecting the hug that came but he hugged the scantily clad woman anyways. "Want to get a drink?"
"It is 3 o'clock in the afternoon." Naruto knew the woman cared less of what time it was. He carried the woman home at 1pm one day after starting at 8am. That was a nightmare.
"Who cares?" She grabbed the man's arm and dragged him down the street towards the bar. He noticed it was one of the more expensive ones in the village. It seems he would be the one paying. "Genma and a few others will be joining us soon."
Naruto looked at the clock on the wall of the bar. He knew this was probably going to be a long night.
Line Break
Naruto deflated into the booth. He looked around at the other jonin at the bar. When Anko said a few others he didn't think she meant most of the jonin force. He could make out Genma and Hayate talking. Hayate's fiance, Yugao Uzuki, was talking with Kakashi and Guy. He could see Shikaku, Inoichi, and Choza watching something that was on the television. Anko was currently passed out on the table as she clutched a bottle. Many more filled the bar. He could see the owner with a big smile on his face. He couldn't make out many others as Tsume was currently talking with him, or trying to as she was a little drunk.
Oh he wished Kurama would allow him to be drunk. He could hear the giant fox laughing as the older woman touched his arm. Though he didn't mind it too much.
"Tell me Naruto-kun, ho-how haven't you been married off yet?" It was strange that both times he has seen the older woman in the past few weeks, she brought up his relationship status.
"I don't know." He finished his sake dish. The taste didn't bother him any more though he hated not feeling any of the alcohol effects. "Father and mother don't believe in arranged marriages and I sort of never found anyone. Been busy with missions and stuff of the sorts."
"Still…" The woman drank from her bottle, swaying a bit in her seat. "You must have women throwing themselves at you." He went to respond before someone decided it was a good time to wake up.
"He doesn't understand them, that is why!" Anko yelled out, pointing a finger at him. He seethed in his spot as a few others near them chuckled. Though she pretty much announced that to the whole bar.
"Anko you are cut off!" Naruto reached for her bottle only for her to jump on the table and point at him.
"You will never touch my special bottle!" She angrily shouted before vaulting over his head. His eyes widened at the sight. How was she more acrobatic as a drunk? He noticed her get closer to Kakashi. Good that bastard deserves it.
"Hehe. She is a wild one." Tsume leaned closer to Naruto's ear. "Though I can show you just how wild I can get."
Naruto's face erupted into flames. He was not expecting that to be out of the woman's mouth. Though if he was honest he did get a bit aroused at that. Though he shook his head to clear those thoughts. The woman was clearly drunk. He needed to get her home.
"Tsume, I don't think that is a good idea." Tsume hiccuped and looked at him sadly.
"Yeah, most men run and hide." Tsume waved her bottle around. "Why are al-all you men so scared? It is like you can't hand-handle a real woman." Tsume downed her bottle as Naruto listened. "My husband ran like a coward and ever since then you m-men run and hide when I am interested. What ha-have I done to deserve this?" Naruto could hear her heartbroken question though she whispered that last part. He grabbed her chin to force her to look at him.
"Tsume, It isn't because of your personality that I say no." She looked into his eyes to see if he was telling the truth. "The real reason is because you are drunk and I believe I would be taking advantage of you if I did so."
"I-I see." The woman started to close her eyes. "I think I am ready to go home now."
With that statement she slumped onto the younger man dead asleep. Naruto could only sigh as he made the decision to take him home. He arranged for her to sit up while he moved to pay for his, Tsume's and Anko's tab. The others weren't getting out of paying for themselves.
When the bartender handed him the bill his eyes bulged out of his head. It seems he will have to be doing some more A-rank missions, maybe even a few S-rank, to get his funds back up. The man just gave him a big smile. He made sure Kakashi would get Anko home seeing how she once again fell asleep but at the bar this time. Once he said his goodbyes he grabbed Tsume and put her on his back. He huffed as he did. She was smaller than him but she must have been packed with muscle to be so heavy, the flak jacket not helping at all.
Luckily for him he made it to the Inuzuka compound with little trouble. He was thankful for his past training in stealth to be able to sneak in without setting every dog off. He made it to her room, thankfully she was coherent enough to tell him, and he was stopped by a menacing growl. At the foot off of Tsume's bed was the biggest dog he had ever saw in his life.
"Kuromaru, enough!" The clan head commanded.
Tsume got off of Naruto's back and in her drunken state kicked her shoes off and slid the flak jacket off. She patted her teammate on the head who only nuzzled into her hand. As she laid down the dog jumped on the bed with her, Naruto noticed how big the bed was. The older woman beckoned him over, though under the watchful eye of Kurmaru.
"Naruto, thank you for the lovely night." The blonde gave her a 'your welcome'. "I just have a question for you." Naruto gulped.
"Any-Anything Tsume." The woman chuckled at his stutter.
"Do you think I am pretty?" Naruto froze. How was he supposed to answer this. He knew if he answered truthfully he might make it harder for himself around the woman. If he said no, the giant dog in the room might make sure he never has children.
"Tell her you wan't to make her full of your pups." He was not going to say that. He was going to have to have a talk with his demon friend. He could hear the lazy fox laugh.
"Truthfully Tsume…" He moved a hair out of her face. She yearned for his touch. "You are one of the prettiest women I know." He smiled at her though it was futile with her eyes closed.
"Thank you, Naruto." The woman smiled as she cuddled with her longtime teammate. "You will make a great husband one day."
Naruto froze for a second and then smiled. He slowly walked to her sliding paper door and crept out. He closed it and made sure to make as little noise as possible. He made his way down the hall to the open window where he entered from. Until he heard someone open their door behind him.
"Hey pervert." He turned to see Kiba in his sleep clothes give him a look, as if he was sizing him up. "Thank you for watching over her and bringing her home safely." Naruto just smiled at the boy.
Said boy just huffed and closed his room door. Trying to not wake anyone else up, Naruto climbed out of the house and shut the window. He took off until he was home.
Line Break
After that night Naruto saw Tsume more often. They started to get to know each other better and acted as if that night didn't exist. Whenever Kushina saw the two talking she would give her son a questioning look and he would just blush and turn back to the feral woman. He actually started to enjoy her company and ignored the looks her son would give him whenever they would interact with each other. He found that ignoring Kiba caused the boy to get more annoyed then bickering with him.
He met Hana, her daughter, a few days later when she gave him a gift of sake. Apparently Tsume felt embarrassed that night and she wanted to give him a token of goodwill. He smiled and accepted it. His mom and dad very much enjoyed it that night.
Currently Naruto was going to each and every clan as a messenger. His dad was having an important meeting about the upcoming chunin exams and needed the clan heads present. He just left the Uchiha compound after Mikoto made sure to tell him his family was invited to dinner that night. Fugaku just gave him a nod. He made his way to the Inuzuka compound. After being let in he was met with Tsume and Hana currently training some new pups.
"Hey Hana, Tsume-chan." Both women turned to him. Naruto never realized what he said though Hana gave him a look. She smirked at him and her mother and walked away after waving at the man.
"Ah! Naruto-kun, how can I help you?" Tsume grinned at the younger man. Her canines catching the sun.
"Dad sent me to tell you that there is a council meeting tonight regarding the chunin exams. Mandatory attendance."
"Ah. Let the Yellow Flash know I will be there." She looked him up and down. "Will you be present?"
"Uh yeah. Something about being future Hokage I have to be present during meetings." He waved it off. "Anyways I have to go let the other clan heads know." He turned around to leave but stopped aftr three steps. "Hey Tsume!"
"Yeah?" The woman turned around to face him again.
"Wear something nice tomorrow. Be ready by 6." Tsume was internally pleased. "I mean if you would like to go out." Naruto scratched the back of his head.
"Oh Naruto-kun." The woman gave him a hungry look. "I will be ready for anything you throw at me." She finished with a wink. He gulped.
"Awesome!" He turned back around. "See you tonight, Tsume-chan." With that he walked out of the compound.
Tsume wanted to freak out like a schoolgirl in love with her senpai. Though the clan head controlled herself and got back to training the new pups. Where did Hana go?
Line Break
Naruto was internally freaking out. Currently he was walking at a snail pace towards the Inuzuka compound. He was worried the date wouldn't go well. He was worried he wouldn't be able to speak to the feral woman. He was worried-
"Would you shut up?!" The giant fox asked him
"You shut up! You know nothing of human interaction anyways." The fox only nodded at that assessment in his mindscape.
"Yes but I do know when I see a bitch in heat." Naruto halted in his tracks. He knew the fox had a foul mouth but where did that come from? "Oh please! You can practically smell her excitement whenever you are around. If I could, I would place a bet you would be her little bitch. Ha! The great Naruto Uzumaki-Namikaze the Bitch of the Inuzuka!"
"Shut up!" Naruto realized he yelled that and had many civilians looking at him strange. "Sorry." This caused the fox to laugh again. "I am not scared of her. Just nervous. I actually like her. That is all." He received whatever from the fox.
Naruto never realized he made it to the compound. Before he could knock on the wooden gate out front, it open to allow him in. He walked to the main house where Kiba just so happened to open the door at the exact time he made it to the front door. Kiba just looked at the basket and blanket in Naruto hands and raised a brow. He opened the door to call his mom.
"Mom! The Pervert is here!" Akamaru just gave Naruto a look.
"Kiba I told you not to call him a-" Tsume stopped at the door and Naruto couldn't help but widen his eyes at the beauty in front of him.
