Belmont University
Fall 2019
Shannon's POV
It was a dark and rainy night in Nashville, Tennessee, and where was I during this? Running around with my Big, Leeanna, towards the editing studio. First off, let me explain how I got here.
Okay, so Leeanna and I were planning a club meeting that was taking place tomorrow. The planning did not take long, so we sat down and watched Starkid. It was around 11 PM when Leeanna looked at her phone and gasped, "I forgot that I need to do some last minute editing! I'm sorry for ruining our night!"
I waved her off and smiled, "Relax, life happens, alright? Besides, I'll help you the best I can!"
"Then would you mind walking with me over to the studio? I know it's weird to ask, but-" By the time she said that, I had already put my boots on and grabbed my umbrella.
I grinned at her as I zipped up my jacket, "It's not weird at all! I was planning on escorting you anyways! That's what sisters are for, right?"
"I owe you big time for this, Shannon." She had just put on her rain gear and grabbed her dorm key. We both walked out together into the hallway at Tall Hall, and I couldn't help but feel like a complete stranger here! I had just completed my first year at the University of Tennessee at Martin, after spending two years at Belmont University. It was at Belmont where I met my Big, aka, Leeanna. We were both in the same sorority, Alpha Gamma Delta, and she is why I come back so often to my old stomping grounds. I truly do consider her an older sister to me, and she doesn't judge me at all.
Enough of the monologuing by me. At least you all know how I got here, outside, in the streets of Nashville on a rainy night. We made it to the Johnson Center about five minutes after we left Leeanna's dorm. I was glad I brought my umbrella for the two of us to use, it was like a monsoon out there. We both shook off any remaining water, and started to go up the elevator. I couldn't help but wonder what my Big's latest project was, so I asked, "What are you editing for this time?"
"You're not going to laugh, are you? I'm looking at your Martin Minute. My Professor wants me to work with someone who has been on television, and I asked UTM to provide me with footage of your work. I need it for a project though. Do you mind?"
The elevator door opened to the fourth floor and I smiled at her, "Of course! I'm just glad I can help you out! Let me know if you need to do any audio work as well to help you complete your project!"
We both stepped out onto the floor and I heard her sigh, "I was trying to surprise you with it. That's why I didn't want you to know."
I hugged her quickly, feeling her guilt cut through me. I quickly responded back, "I look forward to seeing the final result! Now let's get going before it's too late!" I dashed ahead and approached the editing bay she usually works in, and tried to open the door. It was locked, so I yelled out, "Big! Some idjit forgot to unlock the door!"
She comes up to me, shaking her head, "Belmont always does that now, it's the new rule. I do have the key though. Thank goodness I'm a desk worker." She unlocks the door and gestures me in, "You first."
I walked in and blinked my eyes in an attempt to get used to being around bright screens on a dark night. Yet, it felt really, really warm in here, like it was early spring. Jokingly, I turned to face my Big and yelled out, "Can you turn the heat down please?"
I felt her tap my shoulders as she gasped, "I can't turn the sun off. Shannon, we're not at Belmont anymore. See for yourself."
