John Henry Irons was busy trying to find his sister in Metropolis to freak her out. He went to her school, Metropolis Institute of Technology, her apartment, and finally found her exiting a taxi cab. "Your sister has just exited that taxi cab. You could easily catch her," John's robot orb told him.
"Alright, let me just find a parking spot," John said looking around.
"She's getting away, John," the orb said to him.
"Just shut up for a moment," John said stressed, and then got a call from Gen. Lane. "Sir?"
"John, it's happening. Just like you said it was. Superman has been turned. I need your ass back in Smallville," Gen. Lane ordered.
John considered seeing his younger sister vs kicking ass and finally decided to make the right call. "What about your younger sister, John?" the orb asked.
"Fuck her. I have to save the world," John said and then quickly drove off.
Utah
In the middle of the Utah desert, Mon struggled against Brainiac's mind-control. Morgan Edge was there to taunt him as he struggled. "How are you holding up?" he mocked. "I know that you've experienced pain your whole life, Jin-Saiyan. It's how your species grows stronger. But this process will be the most excruciating you have ever felt."
"Tall order," Mon doubted.
"Pain is a weakness all biological entities share. They will do anything to make the suffering end. If you submit, the pain will end. I can't make you forget how you betrayed your people, your own family in pursuit of your selfish goals," Morgan offered.
Mon simply stared at him in defiance. "So be it. Delay the inevitable. Fight it as long as you can but eventually, you will be mine. Not even Prince Mon can resist the will of Brainiac," Morgan said to him.
Mon tensed up as he went through another round of Brainiac trying to control his mind.
Smallville
Alex Danvers arrived at the house and found Kon and Mara patiently waiting for news. "From what I've been told, your parents might be under mind control now. Still, it could be worse," she said.
"We may never see mother and father again," Mara considered mournfully.
"We're no match against either mother or father. We're fucked," Kon said pessimistically.
"Hey, I've been doing this kind of shit for eight years...damn," Alex said amazed at herself. "Trust me, your parents will fight through this and they'll win. Now, it's not going to do anyone any good with you staying up all night. Get some sleep. I got guard," Alex said. "Go on."
Mara and Kon reluctantly went upstairs to get some sleep. Gen. Lane then arrived at the house. Alex went out to meet him. "DOD satellites are scanning the globe. We know they departed here but lost them after that. What about the Fortress of Solitude? We might want to start there."
"Edge isn't going to be there. It's too obvious. I'll see if my people can breach the Fortress of Solitude again and check it out," Alex said.
"I'll go ahead and adjust our search grid to...fuck it," Gen. Lane said putting his phone away.
Alex looked away and wiped away a tear. "Do you need a hug?" Gen. Lane asked.
"From you? Go fuck yourself, general," Alex told him off.
"Hey, I offered," Gen. Lane said backing off and driving away.
The next day, Kyle, Lana, and Sarah had a family meeting. "You sure you're feeling okay, baby?" Lana asked him.
"Well, let's see. I got to go downtown for a mandatory military check-in, a doctor is going to make sure I don't have a probe up my ass, and I'm going to be asked questions about being mind-controlled to make sure my brain isn't still fucked-up. So, yeah, great," Kyle said not looking forward to it.
"Can't you stay home with us and rest?" Sara guilt-tripped.
"I think I need to get back into some kind of routine. You know, go to the station, see my team, put out some fires, and then get drunk as fuck at the nearest bar. Not necessarily in that order," Kyle said.
The doorbell then rang saving Kyle from being chewed out by a disappointed Sara. "I got it," Kyle said going to the door. "Savanah," Kyle identified her firefighter XO who had never made an appearance up to this point.
"Sorry for the house call, chief," she said awkwardly.
"Something wrong?" Kyle asked cluelessly.
Look, I overheard some of the guys talking shit about you coming in. They're all pissed off you invited a psycho supervillain to the town that mind-controlled half the town and nearly killed us all," Savanah said.
"All I was trying to do was bring jobs and investors to this town," Kyle said defensively.
"I get it, chief. I really do but the town is thinking we need a fire chief that has greater diversity...like a young black woman," Savanah said.
"I'll be damned," Kyle realized.
"Take a few days off," Savanah advised and then left.
Kyle looked back at Lana and Sara sheepishly. "Well, it looks like I'm going to only be able to do one of those things I mentioned today."
Kon stared off into space as he contemplated how he could possibly take his father down. "You eaten anything yet?" Mara asked him.
"Not hungry," Kon said lost in thought.
"The humans have nothing, their technology is too primitive," Mara said.
"Father is keeping his power level low enough that I can't sense it," Kon added.
"Let's find another spot away from these people. Then, we can both work together to find him," Mara said to him.
As the two took off, John arrived in his RV. Inside the house, Gen. Lane, Alex, and John had a meeting. "Mon-El's last known location was this farm?" John asked.
"That's right," Gen. Lane confirmed.
"So, Mon-El just agreed to be a slave to Edge?" John asked incredulously.
"It was to spare his daughter's life and maybe buy time," Alex explained. "You were brought here because you actually fought him and survived. You know better than anyone what will happen if Mon and Edge cannot be stopped."
"I do," John nodded.
"So, we need a rescue plan," Alex continued.
"A rescue plan? Shit, our only hope is for me to kill his ass," John said seriously.
"This isn't Superman. It's Mon-El pretending to be Superman," Alex reminded him.
"I don't give a shit," John said stubbornly. "He might as well be the same man."
"Look, I hate the bastard just as much as you hate your version of Superman. He's a vicious genocidal misogynist bigot and one of my greatest regrets in life is that I didn't kill him while he was in a coma when we first found him," Alex said fiercely.
"Damn," John said stunned.
"But he's also saved this world several times and he keeps Kara balanced. From what I can tell, his kids love him," Alex said.
"I have to put him down," John insisted. "It's the only way I save the world."
"Oh, now I get it," Alex said unimpressed. "We have to save him."
"Mon-El is our greatest ally against Morgan Edge. It would be a tactical error to rule out a rescue," Gen. Lane allowed.
"A tactical error would be to let this world fall as mine did. At any moment, Mon-El could wipe the surface of this planet clean or blow the planet the fuck up," John said urgently.
"And yet, we're still here. What does that say?" Alex asked.
"The more time that has gone by, the more likely he will be turned," John pointed out.
"He won't turn. He's not the type to be controlled by anyone," Alex insisted. "Just figure out how to find him."
"I just sensed the power level of a wizard and some volcano monster in New Zealand," Kon said defeated.
"You sure it wasn't Australia?" Mara asked.
"I can't tell the difference between a New Zealander and an Australian accent," Kon admitted.
"Just try again," Mara ordered.
"We've been at this for an hour. I'm bored. This is boring me," Kon said.
"We have to keep trying," Mara told him.
"It doesn't matter if I find him. I can't defeat father. He would block my heat vision and throw me around like a rag doll," Kon said.
"Together, we will win," Mara said confidently. "Now, focus."
In the RV, Gen. Lane and John hung out. "This RPG theoretically can short-circuit Mon-El's energy circulatory system. It will temporarily weaken him and give us the time we need to kill him," John said.
"You built this?" Gen. Lane asked amazed.
"It's Luthor Tech from my world," John said.
"So, you don't know if it will work," Gen. Lane realized.
"It will work. I just need you to build it. I'll do the rest," John said.
Utah
Mon continued to struggle against the mind-control and then bolted out of Morgan's fortress. He punched through a stone wall and hit the ground hard. Mon then powered up to Super Insane creating a shockwave around his body. He gave a scream that Kon and Mara could detect. "KON!" Mon shouted.
Morgan took Mon by the throat and forced him to power down. "You think your children can save you?" he mocked.
In Smallville, Kon and Mara detected Mon's energy signature. "We need to leave," Mara said to Kon.
Smallville
Alex went to the army tent and noticed John Stewart in his Marine uniform. "John Stewart?" she wondered.
"Alex Danvers. So, this is where the Super-Insane family moved to," he said.
"Yeah, they thought the small-town life would give them peace and quiet," Alex said.
"Looks like that didn't go as planned," John said dryly.
"What are you doing here? Are you helping with the search?" Alex asked confused.
"I'm helping to build some tech to kill Mon-El," John said bluntly.
Inside the tent, John Henry Irons and Gen. Lane discussed the RPG. "Can you make it work?" Gen. Lane asked.
"I can," JHI replied.
"I thought this was still a rescue mission," Alex said pissed off.
"It's just a precaution. No decisions have been made," Gen. Lane downplayed.
"I'm pretty decided," JHI rebuked.
"It's a fluid situation," Gen. Lane said defensively. "I didn't want to involve you in the decision-making because you're too close to this."
"Because I would tell you no. You kill Mon-El, we are all fucked when Supergirl returns," Alex said.
"She going to attack the US government?" Gen. Lane asked skeptically.
"No, asshole. She'll restart the timeline again and all of us will have to replay this fuckery again," Alex revealed.
"She's not wrong. The Elders are pissed about all this time travel bullshit," John Stewart said. "By the way, who's the brother?"
"This is John Henry Irons, also known as Steel. He's a badass who fought Mon-El one-on-one and survived," Gen. Lane introduced.
"Nice," John Stewart smiled. "Be careful, brother, this is a sci-fi show."
"I know," JHI nodded.
"It's still possible Mon could resist the mind control," Alex protested.
"I'm not going to gamble the fate of the world," JHI refused.
"You're from another Earth? The Elders are going to have my ass for this," John Stewart realized.
Kon and Mara then entered the tent. "We know our father's general location."
After Kon and Mara had reported that Mon was somewhere in Utah, Gen. Lane went to work to find any unusual structures in the area. Alex went over to JHI as he worked on his computer. "Can we talk?" Alex asked.
JHI got up and took a stroll with her. "You want to tell me how we can save Mon?"
"No, I want to tell you how fucked you are if you try to stop him alone. Mon has no weaknesses. This missile you're building was designed against Superman. It may not work against an Insane. When he fought you, he was only toying with you. He can transform himself, multiplying his power level two hundred times. He can use instant transmission. He can fire energy beams and orbs you can't hope to evade," Alex warned him.
"Everything you're saying is just getting in the way of what needs to be done," JHI said stubbornly. "When I'm fighting him, I won't hesitate. On my world, I lost Kara and Natalie. That's right, I was Kara's husband," JHI said.
"She did have that phase where she was into black guys," Alex recalled.
"And...what the fuck?" JHI lost his train of thought.
"No, sorry, keep going. I believe in you," Alex allowed.
"Millions died on my world. I won't let it happen again. I have a responsibility to do the right thing," JHI said.
"John, don't do this. It's suicide," Alex told him.
"I have to go," JHI said taking off.
In the army tent, Gen. Lane and John Stewart had a chat. JHI then entered the tent. "The courage it took for you to survive brings great credit upon our country, our race, and yourself," John Stewart complimented.
"I know, right?" JHI agreed.
"Make contact with Mon and give us his position. Then, I'll take care of the rest," John Stewart told him.
"I think I have him," Gen. Lane said showing them a satellite map.
"It's a Kryptonian fortress," John Stewart identified.
"Are we a go?" JHI asked.
"We're a go," Gen. Lane ordered.
Utah
Mon continued to struggle inside Morgan's fortress. "I told you, Mon. No one can resist forever," Morgan taunted.
A hologram of Brainiac then appeared as Mon finally succumbed to the mind-control. "Now, you will submit to me, Mon-El, Prince of the Jin-Saiyan."
Smallville
Mara entered the army tent to have a chat with JHI. "Do you know who I am?" she asked.
"I have an idea," JHI said awkwardly.
"I'm Mara-El. When your RV was parked at our farm, I saw a lot of videos of you. I saw what happened to my mother. I saw what you went through. I saw Natalie. You seemed like a really good dad and my mother appeared sane and happy with you. My father has his moments," Mara said.
"I wish there was another way," JHI said honestly.
"There is more at stake than either of us. My brother and I will do what we can to weaken him. If we fail to stop him, do not hesitate to take the shot," Mara told him and then left the tent.
Utah
JHI used his suit to rocket himself over to the deserts of Utah. In his hand was a giant hammer. Upon landing, he looked around and found the fortress but no Mon-El. Suddenly, Mon instantly appeared next to JHI and punched him to the midsection. Mon was now in a one-piece black gi suit and boots.
"Oh, shit," JHI realized.
Mon then uppercut JHI into space and punched him back to Earth. JHI lost consciousness briefly as he slammed down to Earth. "John, talk to me," Gen. Lane radioed.
"He's been turned," JHI confirmed.
"Are you sure?" Gen. Lane asked.
"He just punched me into space," JHI pointed out.
Mon instantly appeared on the ground. "You can't stop what's coming. None of you can," he said to JHI.
"I'm sure," JHI said confidently.
Mon punched him hard to the midsection where he slammed into a pile of rocks. Mon was instantly on him, punching him repeatedly to the helmet. "You are fully authorized to retaliate," Gen. Lane told him. "Weaken him and then take him out."
"What the fuck do you think I'm doing?" JHI asked as he struggled against Mon.
"No, if he uses that missile now, it will do nothing to him," Alex objected.
Mon continued to punch on JHI's suit. JHI finally fired a shockwave cannon forcing Mon off of him. The two charged at each other and then fought in the air. Mon easily took control of the fight and slammed JHI to the ground. Mon then slowly crushed JHI's helmet. "John, you can't beat him. You have to make him remember who he is," Alex radioed him.
"I got this," JHI ignored her and reached for his hammer.
JHI hit Mon to the head with his hammer. While Mon was on the ground, JHI leaped up and slammed his hammer down on his head a second time, stunning him. JHI then armed his missile. "It's not enough, John. He's still just toying with you," Alex told him.
"He's got no choice," Gen. Lane said.
John hesitated to fire knowing it wouldn't kill him. He deactivated his helmet for a more personal approach. "Mon-El, Alex sent me here to save you. She still believes in you. I met your children. They believe in you, too. Let me tell you something. I'm an asshole just like you. But just because we're both assholes doesn't mean we still don't have people that love us for who we are. That pain you're feeling right now is nothing compared to what you've been through. You fight and you take control!"
"Yeah, no," Mon said as he powered up to Super Insane.
"Shit," JHI frowned and then activated his helmet for another round.
Kon, Mara, John Stewart, J'onn, M'gann, and Nia arrived on the scene ready for action. Kon and Mara both went Super Insane in their respective fight uniforms, J'onn and M'gann glowed red wearing their Martian armor, John Stewart activated his green lantern power, and Nia's hands glowed white as Dreamer. Mon powered up to Super Insane 2 with static electricity sparking around him.
"I got this," Kon said eagerly and leaped off the ground as he charged his father.
"Kon, no!" Mara shouted after him.
Kon ignored her and fired on his father. There was a town-sized explosion from the impact. Kon grinned as he saw the power of his attack as he floated above the dust cloud. Mon emerged from the cloud and bitch-slapped Kon to the ground dislocating his shoulder on impact. Mon charged up an orb in his hand and fired down on Kon for a killer strike. J'onn raced towards Kon, grabbed him, and phased him underground as the orb hit creating a massive explosion.
Mon then turned his attention to Mara. "Emak, Emak, Ah!" he shouted as he fired at her. Mara charged up her own attack and fired her own beam. The two beams met in the middle creating a crater in the ground.
"That's more like it," Mon smiled.
"I can't hold it," Mara said as she was being overwhelmed.
"Mara, hang in there!" Alex said to her via radio.
"Do your muscles burn?" Mon taunted her as he was on the verge of incinerating her.
"Mara's about to be overtaken," John Stewart judged.
"This is where you end, hybrid," Mon said to Mara as he pressed his attack harder.
"What's the matter, Mara? You got this," Alex encouraged her.
Mara fell to a knee. "I can't keep this up. It's too much for me to handle. I'm still just a kid," she said as she was losing.
"Don't attack yourself. You've saved many lives and now you're going to do it again, right now," Alex said to her.
"Who are you talking to? Making a little prayer before you die?" Mon mocked her.
"Let it out! Do it now!" Alex shouted at her.
"Too strong," Mara said weakly.
"If you're worried about the planet, fuck it. Don't hold anything back," Alex told her.
"Really?" Mara wondered.
"I can feel you slipping," Mon mocked.
John Stewart then intervened taking up a position behind Mon. With his green lantern ring, he fired upon Mon's backside. "The fuck you trying to do?" Mon wondered and then blasted him back with his aura. John Stewart fell to the ground wounded.
"What did he think he could do?" Nia wondered.
"He didn't think he could win but he tried anyway," J'onn said. "Let's not wait for death. If we die, we die with honor."
M'gann and Nia nodded. The three of them flew over to the fight and took up positions behind Mon. "These are your last minutes, girl, so make them count," Mon taunted Mara.
John Stewart fired with his ring, J'onn and M'gann fired heat vision, and Nia fired with her hands. The beams hit Mon's aura to his back. "You so anxious to die? All you had to do was ask," Mon said to them as he expanded his aura towards them.
John Stewart, J'onn, M'gann, and Nia were blasted to the ground and struggled to get back up. Eventually, J'onn and M'gann got back up and fired on Mon. John Stewart and Nia also fired on Mon. For what it was worth, the four of them distracted Mon sufficiently enough to keep him from immediately killing Mara. Kon watched passively as he saw his father's power.
"It's not fear that's holding me back," he said to himself. In truth, his pride had been damaged. If they were successful, Mara would take the win. She was putting up a much better fight than he had. Helping Mara get the win was not the Insane way. Mon blasted John Stewart, J'onn, M'gann, and Nia back to the ground. Hurt and exhausted, none of them got back up again.
"Say goodbye!" Mon sneered as he was about to destroy Mara.
High above the battle, an energy bomb was released that suddenly hit Mon. The impact unbalanced his footing and distracted him. "Kon!" Mon shouted at his son high in the air.
Kon panted from effort completely spent. "Now's your chance!" Alex shouted to Mara via radio.
Mara unleashed on her father overtaking his beam as Mon lost focus. Stronger and more confident now, Mara walked towards her father. On the ground, J'onn and M'gann tried to free Mon from his mind-control. Mon fell out of Super Insane 2 as Mara advanced on him. Pieces of Mon's gi began to tear off into the air and burn up. Mon's skin and muscles burned as Mara had now completely overtaken him. Suddenly, he vanished in the blinding light. Mara's beam went through the atmosphere and into space.
Mon suddenly instantly appeared at Mara's side with an energy beam powered up. Mara gave her father a look of shock, grief, and resignation as she was about to be killed by her own father. A missile blasted through Mon's chest and out his back. "The...fuck?" Mon wondered as he was hit. He then saw JHI in his Steel suit. Mon lost all power and fell to the ground critically wounded. Mara stared at her father, powered down, and then passed out on the ground.
At Morgan's fortress, Brainiac noted Mon's defeat. Morgan sensed the defeat as well. "We've lost Mon-El," he said.
"Then, it is time," Brainiac said to him. "If I can't have Earth, no one will. Take the eradicator and power it up until it explodes destroying yourself along with the planet."
"As you wish," Morgan said completely under his control.
Morgan retrieved the eradicator orb and went up into the sky. Once he was at a sufficiently high altitude, Morgan fired heat vision into the orb to power it up until it was overloaded. A red beam hit the orb causing a powerful explosion. Karina went straight for Morgan and backhanded him down to the planet where he hit the ground hard. Karina then landed next to Morgan's broken body.
"How did you escape the fortress?" Morgan asked her thinking she was Kara.
"I didn't," Karina said with a thick Russian accent.
"I will burn this world to ash. It is inevitable," Morgan said to her.
Karina then punched him to the face knocking him out.
Mon instantly appeared in the fortress and collapsed on the floor. Near him was a very sickly-looking Kara on the floor. Her hair had become white, her skin was deathly pale, her eyes bloodshot, and her body wasted away. "What happened? Are the kids safe?" she asked weakly.
"Yeah, they kicked my ass," Mon admitted.
Kara eyed Mon's injury with some alarm. "Maybe, it's best if we die here...together."
"Yeah, maybe," Mon muttered. "Leslie Larr still has Kameron."
"Oh, shit, that's right," Kara recalled. "Deactivate the security system, will you?"
Mon crawled his way to the control panel and shut off the Kryptonite emitter. Kara gradually became stronger and returned to her normal self. "That was a bitch," she remarked.
"The DOD has Morgan Edge," Mon informed her.
"He's merely a puppet. We need to find Brainiac," Kara said resolved.
Smallville
Mon and Kara instantly appeared next to the house where Kon and Mara were waiting for them. "Hey," Mon and Kara said awkwardly.
"You good?" Kon asked skeptically.
"Yeah," Mon nodded. "You both did very well."
"It was Mara's win," Kon admitted.
Mara eyed Kon with surprise. "It was a team effort. I couldn't have done it without Aunt Alex's encouragement."
Alex looked away embarrassed. Kara came up to her. "I still have a family because of you," she said gratefully.
Alex shook her head. "Don't toy with your foes and you won't need me to," she scolded.
Kara nodded. JHI then landed in his Steel armor. "Nice cheap shot," Mon said to him.
"I'm not apologizing," JHI told him off.
"Nor should you. How about you stay for dinner and the night," Kara said to him.
"I couldn't impose. Family time is sacred," John said to her.
"You married a version of me in another universe. You are family," Kara told him. "And I want to show you my appreciation."
"Hey, kids, let's go see a movie," Alex said pulling Kon and Mara away.
Once Alex, Kon, and Mara were gone, JHI turned to Kara. "You fucking serious?"
"As long as I get to watch," Mon clarified.
"I'll make you a deal. You give me a good time, and I'll save your word," Kara offered.
"Deal," JHI agreed.
The three of them then entered the house.
The next morning, Kara and Mon met with Gen. Lane. "So, where the fuck is Leslie Larr?" Kara demanded.
"Finding her is our first priority," Gen. Lane said. "We should find her by the end of the week."
"Oh, really?" Kara scoffed.
"Once we do, the DOD packs up and ends martial law," Gen. Lane promised.
"I won't hold my breath," Kara said skeptically.
"I'm sorry if my efforts to kill your husband have offended you," Gen. Lane said with false sincerity.
"You were just doing your job," Kara allowed.
"I'll continue to doubt you and think up contingency plans to stop you, two," Gen. Lane assured them.
"I appreciate that, general," Kara said sincerely.
Gen. Lane then took off leaving them alone. "I thought he would never leave. John Henry Irons is still upstairs asleep and I want to play with him," Kara said to Mon.
"Well, okay then," Mon said as he followed Kara to the bedroom.
