Note: The last chapter was set before Christmas, now this chapter is set after it – apart from the opening scene, which establishes a little history for Kandar. Hehe.
Instant Family
Several Months Ago
Mon and Winn were hosting Kandar in their apartment when there was a bright green flash of light and two more people appeared in the room: an older man with gray hair in a Green Lantern outfit, and a man who looked somewhat similar Mon-El, albeit in flowing robes.
The three in the apartment paused at their appearance as Mon was the one to first speak.
"Mor? Ha? What on Daxam are you doing here?" Mon asked the newcomers.
"Acting as a Taxi service, it seems," the older man, Ha-Pri bemoaned as Mor-An moved forward to hug Mon.
"Hi big brother!" Mor hugged his brother before his eyes found Winn instead. "And you must be his boyfriend, Winn?"
"Erm, yeah," Winn stated as Mor now pulled into a surprise hug.
"And what exactly are you doing here? Shouldn't you be co-ruling Daxam with Mik?" Mon had to ask as Kandar stayed back, watching the family reunion.
"If only. I was just mom's puppet in the end. I had to get away," Mor explained. "Hey there, Kandar," he gave the blonde Kryptonian man a wink, who smirked back.
"There it is," Mon laughed understanding why his younger brother was here. "I'm guessing you handed full power to my dear twin instead?" He referenced his twin brother, Mik-El, at this. He and Mon didn't have the best relationship, despite being twins, so it wasn't a big deal to Mon that he hadn't seen his twin in a while.
"Mommy's boy, yeah, he does whatever mom says, so…" Mor left that sentence hanging. "Although that doesn't explain why mom and dad decided to have another child."
"What?" Mon paused, wondering if he had heard that right. "Mom and dad had another kid?"
"A girl – Romana. They used the artificial wombs and accelerated growth," Mor explained. "She's already about 10 years old."
"Wow, so we have a little sister," Mon bemused.
"But that doesn't explain why you called me to get you to Earth!" Ha-Pri voiced in earnest, eyes looking to him at this. The two brothers had ignored the Green Lantern up until now.
"Yeah, sorry about that," Mor stated, slightly dismissing the man. "I came to see my big brother, of course. The way you spoke about Earth, Mon, when you came to sort out that mess with mom a few years ago… well, you made it sound idyllic."
"I just missed my Winn," Mon pointed out, simply, Winn smiling at this one.
"Yeah, well, I want that. All of that," Mor stated. "Being a royal isn't all it's cut out to be."
"I get that," Mon nodded. He had abdicated his throne after all – as the oldest sibling it should have been his, but he had given it to his two brothers at the time, instead.
"Still, you could have used a Daxam ship to get here!" Ha-Pri pointed out, still on his use of being a Green Lantern Taxi. "Green Lanterns are meant to fight the great cosmic balance, not used to get you to a place in a flash."
"Well, I'm here now so if you want to go…?" Mor dismissed.
"Well, while I'm here, there's someone I want to see anyway," Ha-Pri smirked now as he left the room in another flash of green.
"Aunt Astra," Kandar pointed out instantly, a knowing look in his eye at this as the two Daxamites laughed.
"So, you're planning on staying, then?" Winn asked Mor.
"If you'll have me," Mor said with a nod.
"Well, our apartment is only one bedroom…" Mon pointed out.
"You can stay with us," Kandar stated quickly. "My sister and me, I mean. I'm saying with her and her husband, there's an extra bedroom or, if you like… my room."
"That could be fun," Mor smirked to Kandar at this.
"Am I missing something?" Winn asked.
"Kandar lived on Daxam from a young teen," Mon chuckled now, knowing the history since he'd gone back home and caught up, "he and my little brother here had a very special relationship growing up."
"Something I've definitely missed since coming to Earth," Kandar pointed out. "But I had to reconnect with my sister and cousin."
"I know," Mor stated, Kandar not needing to explain why he left.
"Oh," Winn couldn't help but chuckle at this one, realizing Mor and Kandar had been a serious item back on Daxam. "Well then, it seems Kandar will help you adjust to life on Earth too."
"I very much look forward to it," Mor stated, grinning at Kandar.
-SuperEarth; Late-January 2022-
Kara was sitting on the couch in her living room with Kandar sitting by her side; Barry was currently working and Mor-An was with his own brother. Kara was finally starting to show her pregnancy.
"You know, Aunt Lara didn't really show until nearer the time when Kal was going to be born," Kandar mused.
"You remember that?" Kara asked, curious about this claim. Her dog, Lara, picked her head up at her name being mentioned.
"No, I just remember dad telling me off for saying Aunt Lara was getting fat," Kandar pointed out, causing Kara to laugh and the dog to move over to him. "I'm not on about you, Lar-y," he added to the dog, giving her a pet at this.
"Well Aunt Lara wasn't related to us, biologically, that is," Kara pointed out to Kandar, laughing a bit as her dog responding when they were talking about Aunt Lara, reminding Kara of New Justice Rae's dog, Clarky, who responded whenever anyone mentioned Clark. "And her baby wasn't half human."
"Oh yeah. Then again, the baby in her womb was an El, so…" Kandar tried to defend himself.
Kara didn't get the chance to respond – or in this case, throw a cushion at her brother – when both were surprised as a portal suddenly opened in the room, Kandar quickly standing at this as a familiar woman with dark brown hair came out of it; the portal closing behind her.
"I'm here!" The new woman called, as if the pair in the room had been expecting her. Lara, though, gave a short bark at her appearance while Kandar paused, looking between the woman and his sister now, who seemed nonchalant at the turn of events.
"Took your time," Kara remarked as the dark-haired woman raised her eyebrow at Kara before bending down to pet Lara, who had now come up to sniff her.
"Well, I was covering Karry Universe's pregnancy. They had a boy, Kent – a lot of drama, I won't bore you with it," the woman stated, adding, "I had to get some things sorted before I came here…" her eyes turned to Kandar. "Oh hey. Kandar, right?"
"Urm… Kara?" Kandar asked in general, cautiously taking a seat again.
"Close. Kayla. Twin sister… sometimes your alternate, come to think of it. Full name is Kaylar Zor-El but I usually just go by my human name of Kayla," Kayla said.
"Multiverse," Kara explained, chuckling at her brother's reaction – having spent most of his life on Daxam and away from the growing connection of the multiverse on Earth, he wasn't used to doubles and the friendships between Earths. "I contacted my fellow Paragons before Christmas to see if they had an idea about how to tackle Supergirl's lack of appearance due to my pregnancy, they said the answer will come mid-January."
"Well, it's gone mid-January and the answer is me," Kayla explained. "I'm a hitchhiker and general Kara-pregnancy-coverer. Like I said, I was just on Karry Universe covering for their Kara and they really needed a Supergirl – a lot of trouble there for a bit."
"Right," Kandar voiced, although still not getting it. Kara, meanwhile, wondered what was going on with her fellow Paragons, making a mental note to contact Karry's Kara and Barry to find out what that drama was, but the topic moved off it for now.
"Anyway," Kara spoke, letting her brother catch up in his own time. "My fellow Paragons mentioned some holographic technology…?"
"Oh yeah," with that, Kayla moved her hands to a necklace around her neck and pressed it – instantly her hair turned golden, like Kara's own, and her clothes seemed to vanish to be replaced with an identical looking outfit to Kara's own Supergirl look.
"Oh, that's…" Kara started, amazed.
"Pure hologram," Kayla smirked as she pressed the necklace again and was back in normal clothes. "I don't even need to wear my own Supergirl costume anymore – thanks to my Hitchhiking buddy."
"Buddy?" Kandar asked, now going with the flow.
"Cisco Ramon, from Mutant Earth," Kayla supplied.
"Right," Kandar was lost again.
"Although back on Karry, they let me use my own outfit – marketed it as a third Supergirl outfit selling action figures and other such things. Made a lot from it and put some aside in an account for me to use when I am there," Kayla smirked to herself as she said that.
"I'm not sure how the public would react to Supergirl changing her outfit here," Kara pointed out, not even knowing that this Kayla's own outfit looked like anyway.
"That's okay. I was just mentioning it. So… urm, living arrangements?" Kayla now added.
"Oh yeah. Pick a room – there are five. Actually, there are three as one is mine and Barry's and the other is already a nursery for the twins," Kara stated, bemused at just how quickly Barry had decorated the room next to theirs with neutral baby colors and two cribs. Ever since Crisis, Barry had become a lot more paternal. Kara had wondered if this had something to do with the two Paragon Barrys, who were both parents themselves.
"Awesome!" Kayla grinned but paused. "You, erm, won't mind if I have a Mon-El over, right?" Kayla now added.
"Mon…?" Kandar asked.
"My… significant other, I suppose," Kayla stated – she'd and her Mon had never actually had that conversation yet; they'd just got cozy with one another and that was basically it.
"You're with a Mon?" Kandar asked.
"Yeah," Kayla stated. "Well, he's from a lost world so he has none now; he's currently on Twin Earth as it seemed rude for both of us to turn up at once."
"He can stay too," Kara chuckled at this. "Glad you found someone."
"She's with a Mon," Kandar practically repeated, now to his sister.
"And you're with his little brother, what's wrong?" Kara asked her brother with a raised eyebrow.
"Nothing just… the multiverse," he sighed to himself.
"New to the multiverse, eh?" Kayla asked, glancing to Kara then back to Kandar. "I can give you a crash course is you want. I don't know other Kandars, so it'd be nice to have one."
"You don't know a version of me?" Kandar asked, confused.
"There's only two in the multiverse now I'm aware of – yourself and the one on Gender Earth. I never had one as I had a Kara and Clark – Kal, I suppose to yourself – on my original world, but my sister and cousin both died," Kayla explained to her otherworld brother. "Killed by Black Siren."
"Oh damn," Kandar stated, feeling a little sorry for Kayla now.
"Kandar… why don't you make yourself useful and show our guest a room?" Kara now asked her brother, who raised an eyebrow at the sudden request. "I'm pregnant here," as she defended herself; Lara gave Kandar a small bark, the man raising his hands in defense.
"Okay, okay. Come on Kayla, I think you and Mon will like one of the rooms on the second floor," with that, he headed to the staircase, Kayla following.
"Good dog," Kara now pet Lara, who rested her head on the couch next to Kara, close to her unborn children, already protective of the life forming within her mistress.
-SuperEarth-
It had been just over a week after Kayla's arrival on SuperEarth when her take on Supergirl was truly needed – and a little too close to home than comfort.
An explosion had rocked STAR Labs itself, the fire raging in one of the wings. Barry was fast in getting there, speeding people out and to safety while Kayla, as Supergirl, used her freeze breath to stifle the flames. This was really bad.
With everyone rescued, many already in hospital with Barry running them directly there, the fire was put out by Kayla.
"Is everyone accounted for?" Barry asked, arriving back at the scene and taking in the burned and charred wreckage around.
"I don't know. What was going on here?" Kayla asked.
"An experiment," Barry stated. "One of the scientists tried to explain but I didn't…"
"Oh no," Kayla interrupted Barry as her eyes fell upon two figures, charred back, barely noticeable under a collapsed wall. Her x-ray vision had helped her see them as she moved forward to get the wall off them, even if the figures were clearly deceased. "It looked like they were crushed by the wall, not the fire," Kayla stated, seeing the impact wounds from the wall on their bodies – it was highly likely they were killed instantly, the fire simply burning their already deceased bodies.
"Who were they…?" Barry asked, worried now.
"There's a name tag," Kayla stated now, crouching down, but before she could read it, Alex was on the scene with a couple of DEO agents; ones that had remained here while the rest of the DEO relocated.
"Good job you two. Luckily the explosion didn't affect the pipeline but – oh," Alex had begun, but stopped at seeing the two bodies.
"No matter how hard you try, you can't save them all," Kayla stated simply, feeling this needed to be said.
"Man, I never…" Alex sighed as she moved forward.
"The name tag says 'Tarazi'," Kayla indicated the name tag on one of the bodies, while Barry looked to the other.
"This one too. You had two Tarazi scientists working here?" Barry asked.
"They were a couple," Alex sighed, knowing all that were hired here, "and parents. Vasquez, Valdes, we need to inform the children. This is going to be a tough one."
"Tarazi… why is that name familiar?" Kayla mused as Barry looked to her while the two DEO agents left the scene.
"You're from the multiverse, you could know other Tarazi's," Alex pointed out, knowing this wasn't her Kara.
"I'm going to find the kids," Barry sighed, "do what you need to here," and before either woman could answer him, he'd sped off.
"He'll tell the children before we can," Alex mused, "probably a good thing. Come on Kayla, let's get these two to the morgue."
"You have a morgue here?" Kayla asked, still thinking over the name Tarazi and wondering where she knew it from. There were many STAR Labs in the multiverse though, so maybe these two worked at one of the others?
"Obviously we have a morgue," Alex chuckled at this as Kayla carefully picked up one of the bodies, Alex leading the way to the morgue.
-SuperEarth-
Barry realized he had no idea where he was going, having never heard of the name Tarazi before, so had to double back to STAR Labs, stopping before Agents Vasquez and Valdes; neither of whom were surprised to see him appear before them, now outside of the wrecked laboratory.
"Tarazi children," Barry started, "I don't…"
"Two girls," Vasquez took the lead, reading off her tablet device, "the youngest, Adrianna attends National Elementary in the National portion of the Central-National Cities,"
"The eldest, Zari, is in Central Middle School," Valdes added, turning his tablet around to show Barry two separate pictures of two young girls of Iranian descent from their yearly school photographs on record.
"Zari, that name is familiar," Barry muttered, but then his mind went back to task. "This is going to be difficult."
"We were going to contact the schools," Vasquez began.
"No," Barry shook his head. "This needs to be in person. I have some idea of what this is like, and you need to be told in a better way," although he hadn't lost his parents, the other Barrys he knew from the multiverse had lost at least one, or both, and knew from them that this needed the personal touch. "I'll speak to Zari first; she can help with her little sister. Let the school know I'm coming and why though. Thank you," and with that, Barry ran off, leaving the two DEO agents bemused.
…
Barry arrived outside of Central Middle School, still in his Flash outfit. He had considered changing into his normal attire but decided hearing the news from the Flash was better than the reasonably unknown Barry Allen. Luckily, it was the middle of classes as no students were outside to admire over the hero being in their school.
It took Barry seconds speeding through classrooms, unnoticed, to locate Zari, stopping in her classroom next to the teacher to surprised gasps and sudden applause.
Raising his hands to stop the children in the room from rushing at him, Barry's attention was on Zari, who frowned as they made eye contact. In person, she was a cute kid, and there was something about her that Barry couldn't put his finger on – she instantly seemed older than her years and he suddenly knew she could handle the information he was about to give her.
"Zari Tarazi?" He asked, the girl instantly standing.
"Erm, Flash, we were…" her teacher began, but Barry raised a hand to the teacher now.
"This is more important than… math," he paused when he realized what was on the screen the teacher had been teaching her students. "Okay, math is seriously important kids, but I need to speak to Miss Tarazi in person."
"Fine. Come right back, Zari," the teacher started.
"I… don't think she will be, sorry," Barry stated as Zari reached him now, looking nervous at these words. The teacher sighed and dismissed the pair as Barry lead her from the room and out into the empty corridor.
"Flash?" Zari started.
"I'm sorry," Barry started, leading her away from the door so they were in the middle of the corridor; he bent down on his knees now as he sighed. "There was an accident at STAR Labs where your parents worked… they didn't survive."
"They're… dead?" Zari asked, the blood draining from her face.
"I'm so sorry," was all Barry could say as the girl started to cry. He moved forward to hug her, which she didn't resist, hugging him back.
"Oh god, what do we tell my sister?" Zari asked after a moment, pulling away from Barry now.
"Do you have any other family members? Grandparents, uncles…?" Barry began.
"No," Zari shook her head. "Not in the States anyway. Mom and dad came here when I was a baby for a fresh start. Kept themselves to themselves…" she trembled as she said this, fresh tears in her face.
"It's okay," Barry stated. "You can stay with us," and he meant it as he said it. He wanted to look after this girl and her sister.
"Stay with the Flash?" Zari asked, her eyes wide at this – Barry had almost forgotten he was in the superhero outfit and quickly removed the cowl, to show his face to her, not even thinking if anyone else was in the corridor to see him. Unlike some of the other world's Flashes, he still used an actual suit rather than create it from the Speed Force when needed.
"Hi," Barry said to her surprise now.
"Hi," Zari replied simply. "You're… an actual person."
"Flesh and blood like you," Barry chuckled. "You can call me Barry Allen – but that's our secret, okay?"
"Okay," Zari nodded as Barry only now checked around the corridor, relieved to see it really was empty. With that, he put his cowl back up.
"Come on, we need to tell your sister before the school does," Barry stood at this, picking her up. "This might be a little uncomfortable…" with that, he ran off, Zari in his arms.
-SuperEarth-
Breaking the news to Zari's little sister, Adrianna had been hard. Barry had let Zari take the lead but even then, all the hugs in the world couldn't help the little girl – she was still at that age where she didn't quite understand that mommy and daddy wouldn't be coming home tonight, or ever.
Letting Alex know that they were going to look after the children, at least for that night, so she could handle the paperwork, Barry had run both girls back to his house, not even needing to explain anything to Kara.
Being pregnant had led to a much softer side of Kara, who upon seeing the girls had bought both of them into a hug, with only Zari pulling away a few moments later to look to Barry. Lara had curled up to Adrianna now, the girl delighted at having a dog present.
"Barry," Zari asked, the man looking to her now as he sat on a kitchen chair he'd brought into the lounge, "if you're the Flash, does that make your wife Supergirl?" Kara hadn't worn her Supergirl outfit since Christmas – and now Kayla was around, she was Supergirl in Kara's place, of course.
"Yes," Barry stated simply, glancing to Kara who was still holding onto a silent Adrianna.
"But she's been seen recently, and Kara is clearly pregnant," Zari stated, confused.
"For someone who's suffered such a recent loss, you're very alert," Barry couldn't help but chuckle.
"I just notice things," Zari stated, unsure what else to say to this comment.
"Well, I, too, have a sister," Kara answered the question, deciding to simplify things for the moment, "she's covering for me."
"Supergirl has a sister?" Zari asked, her eyes now wide.
"Two sisters, one of them human. Oh, and a brother," Kara chuckled. "You'd like them all."
"Wow," Zari breathed, just as Kara's phone rang. Instead of answering it, Kara tossed it to Barry, who caught it and answered it in one swift movement.
"Alex," Barry answered the phone, having seen the caller ID.
"Hey Barry," Alex didn't sound at all fazed to be speaking to her brother-in-law instead of her sister. "The DEO can't get hold of the extended Tarazi family," she explained, "I don't know what's going on there, but we have paperwork you need to sign if you're serious about taking in Zari and Adrianna until a more permanent arrangement can be made."
Barry glanced to Kara at this, not even needing to tell her what Alex had said as she could both hear the call with her super hearing and through her bond to Barry. She simply nodded.
"I'll run down there now and pick it up," Barry stated simply.
"You're honestly serious about this? Even fostering those girls, while you're expecting twins…" Alex stated, concern in her voice.
"Deadly serious," Barry responded, he glanced to Zari at this, seeing her looking to him with wide eyes – and again he saw it, that maturity and wisdom deep within those brown eyes.
"Okay then," Alex stated. "I'll see you shortly." With that, she hung up.
"If we're staying here with you, there's some things we need from home," Zari voiced, seeming clued on to the conversation Barry had just had.
"Teddy!" Adrianna quickly called out, her sister turning to her and smiling as Lara moved from her spot at the sudden movement.
"Of course," Barry stated.
"We can't forget Teddy," Zari stated, kissing her sister's forehead.
"Do you want to come to STAR Labs with me, then after we can pick up some things?" Barry asked Zari.
"Please. I kind of like the speed," Zari stated coyly, Barry laughing at this.
"But Zari…?" Adrianna looked up from her position on the couch with Kara.
"I'll be back shortly, Adri," Zari stated, "be a good girl for Kara."
-SuperEarth-
Arriving at STAR Labs and picking up the paperwork from Alex, Barry had to pause as Zari asked to see her parents. He knew their bodies weren't in any condition for the girl to see, even if they were now in STAR Labs' morgue.
Instead, he showed her to the laboratory where her parents had died, just so she could see the devastation, to see that her parents simply couldn't have survived – the place had been cordoned off, but there wasn't much point in it, as no one was around and it was within the Labs, so wasn't public-facing.
"Sometimes we can't save everyone," Barry reiterated the phrase Kayla had used earlier. "I'm truly sorry, Zari."
"If only dad had had it on him," Zari muttered to herself, looking around sadly at the carnage.
"Had what?" Barry asked.
"The family heirloom," Zari stated, pausing as if she only realized what she was saying.
"How… how would that have help?" Barry asked, unsure what she meant by a family heirloom saving her parents from a fire.
"It's nothing. Just something I thought of," Zari dismissed, sadly now. Barry decided to ignore this, knowing the girl was in mourning.
"STAR Labs and the DEO are going to start arrangements on your parents' funerals," Barry stated, knowing this from his meeting with Alex a few minutes ago, "while their finances are being transferred to a savings account for you and your sister. Everything in your home will be put in storage – speaking of, shall we head there now? You need to get a few things – especially Adrianna's Teddy."
"Of course," Zari nodded, Barry picking her up again to run to the Tarazi home address – again, given to him by Alex earlier.
-SuperEarth-
That night, Barry and Kara were in bed; Kayla and her Mon had gone out while Zari and Adrianna were sharing a bed in the room next to Kara and Barry – just in case the adults were needed to calm them from any nightmares. Lara was in their room though, too, keeping an eye on the kids.
What's the long-term plan here? Kara thought to Barry now through their bond, putting down the book she was reading. About Zari and Adri?
You mean if family can't be located? Barry thought back.
Yeah. Are we taking them in full-time? Kara asked.
I'd love to. Something about Zari seemed to click for me, and Adrianna wouldn't let go of you earlier, Barry thought back, remembering Adrianna curling up to Kara earlier.
She's sweet, and Zari is definitely smart beyond her years, Kara reasoned. But we're soon to have two more kids. Can we handle having four in the house?
I don't see why not, Barry replied simply. If you're worried about money…
WellsAllen Tech brings in a lot, I know, and my job at CatCo is great paying, Kara responded. I'm not even due to go on Maternity Leave for a while, too.
Money isn't an issue, precisely, Barry smirked to his wife.
Exactly when did you get so parental? Kara now asked, not unkindly.
What do you mean? I always have been, Barry thought back, confused now. I mean, Jesse and Wally have like a whole band of kids…
They didn't before Crisis, Kara interrupted – this had been a definite change due to Crisis as Wally and Jesse on this world hadn't even got together, let alone become parents, before she left to stop the end of the multiverse. It had been a shock to find Barry's business partner expecting her third child with Wally upon her return to her world after bringing the multiverse back with her fellow Paragons – it had also been surprising that Jesse Wells was Barry's partner in WellsAllen Tech instead of Belle Wells, as the two had switched careers due to Crisis, with Jesse now being Barry's partner and Belle being the DEO medic. Kara had wondered if that had been her fellow Paragons doing, as Belle was as rare to the multiverse as Kandar these days, while Jesse was more well known.
Well, they do in this reality, Barry stated of Jesse and Wally being parents here, and we've babysat for all their kids, Barry stated this firmly, Kara not arguing this fact now – she and her fellow Paragons had a group chat on Crisis changes and it was good to talk to them about the differences when she couldn't exactly tell those to her own world's friends. Wait, are you saying you don't want to look after those two innocent children whose parents just died today? Barry added now, putting emphasis on the events of the day.
Never, Kara reacted instantly. I like the girls, it's just a change I hadn't expected. And with Kayla and Mon-El here too…
We have two more adults to keep an eye on the girls while you're pregnant and I'm working, Barry reasoned, Kara not having thought of this one. Plus, I'm sure Zari will be happy changing diapers and looking after the twins when they're born.
If she stays with us, Kara reasoned. Her family back in Iran…
True, but if they don't want to relocate back and want to stay in America, I'm sure we can sort out becoming their legal guardians and keep in contact with their family back home – there are options, Barry explained. Besides, they know our secret now.
"Okay," Kara now said aloud, this surprising Barry as he turned his head to actually look at her – she'd been reading while he'd just been resting as they had their mental conversation. "I love the girls; I'm not debating that and I'm happy for them to stay here – it's just lucky we got the five-bedroom Townhouse."
"Something about this place called to me, I have to admit," Barry reasoned wistfully. "Besides, the rooms are large enough we can partition them in the future."
"True. But first thing tomorrow we need to look at getting a smaller bed for Adrianna," Kara reasoned. "Zari's fine with the king-size, as she's nearly a teenager, but Adri got lost in the bed with her sister earlier."
"That's true," Barry mused, remembering Adri jumping into the bed to play-hide and getting lost in the sheets – right now it was like a holiday for the girls, although without their parents, but soon it would really sink in, especially for Adrianna.
"Then that's settled," Kara stated, putting her book on the bedside unit now.
"Good," Barry smirked to himself. I hope they stay with us permanently, he added mentally again.
I know you do, Kara chuckled, leaning over to kiss her husband before settling to sleep. I just wasn't expecting such an instant family today, she mused – this wasn't how she expected the day to end, but she wouldn't have it any other way. She wondered if Cat would let her take some time off to get the girls' acclimatized too. She'd have to have a word with her boss in the morning.
Post-chapter Note: And there you have it. I know we had Kayla and Caitlin on Beautiful Earth take in Zari ages ago, but honestly, Millie and I both planned to bring in teen Zari at the same time and have our heroes take her in – it just took me a little longer to get there! I also took the opportunity to bring in a younger sister for Zari, who for those who know the comics, is the actual version of Isis from those comics. Whether Adrianna here will grow up to get those powers and become that hero I don't know yet, but I think we can all guess who's getting the 'family heirloom' Zari mentioned earlier in the chapter. Hehe.
