Hey guys, thank you for the reviews. I always look forward to reading your thoughts, it truly brightens my day and motivates me to update. I know there was mixed feelings about the songs, but it was an important part for me to add just for these two chapters (it won't be a permanent thing). I promised not to leave you's hanging too long. Here's part 2. I should have posted this yesterday for Piper's birthday, but I forgot... Happy belated birthday Piper Chapman!
Chapter 9:
''So, you're still seeing her?'' Polly asked bluntly.
''Well, no… Not exactly.'' Piper said with teary eyes.
''What happened, Pipe?'' Polly asked gently.
''We had coffee together then spent the day in her bed… That night, she told me it was a mistake and that she didn't love me anymore!'' Piper explained as her tears started to fall.
''Sweetie… Are you okay?'' Polly asked as she pulled the blonde in for a hug.
''No, Polly. I still love her. But she doesn't feel the same!'' Piper said through sobs, finally letting the tears out.
''It sounds like she's holding a grudge, Piper! You think it was maybe one night of payback? You drunk dialled her, but she seized the opportunity to get revenge for leaving her?'' Polly asked, trying to put all the pieces together.
''I had that thought too!'' Piped almost screamed.
''Do you think this was the end of it? Or do you think she'll give your name to the feds as a final fuck you?'' Polly asked, suddenly worried.
''Fuck! That fucking bitch!'' Piper screamed as she downed the rest of her glass of wine.
''You don't really think she would name you… Do you?'' Polly asked as she finished her glass of wine and poured another.
''Alex can be manipulative; she likes to play the long game. I hurt her pretty bad, Pol.'' Piper replied as she held out her glass to be filled from the almost empty wine bottle.
Throughout their entire conversation the radio had been playing, forgotten in the background, until something caught the blonde's attention.
''Turn that song up, Polly!'' Piper demanded as she pointed towards the radio.
It's the last time I let you hurt me
Fuck you, goodbye, I did not deserve it
None of this bullshit was ever really worth it
You blame me like I know I ain't perfect
I tried with you, and I lied for you
Many times, put my life on the line for you
I really wanted to get it right with you
I always saw the better side of you
And now it's fuck you for life
I'm doin' better, you right
I was wrong 'bout you, I guess I finally realized
You brought the dark to my light
I'm with a new one tonight
But there is one last thing I want to tell you tonight
Fuck you, goodbye
You hurt me, for the last time
It's time for me to move on
So fuck you and goodbye
I gave you love and I hate it
Yeah, all of the time that I wasted
Fuck you, goodbye
You hurt me, for the last time
''Fuck you, Alex… Goodbye! You hurt me for the last time!'' Piper sang along in her tipsy state.
Alex sat in a booth in the back corner of the bar, trying not to draw attention to herself. The brunette was considering taking another bump in the bathroom as her high was slowly beginning to fade. The cute, blonde bartender had been making eyes at her for the last fifteen minutes, Alex couldn't even entertain the thought of talking to her as there was only one blonde that was currently occupying her thoughts. A bump of heroin was the only trick to push those thoughts away. Alex downed the rest of her drink, about to get up and go to the bathroom when the bartender approached her table.
''Leaving so soon? I was about to ask if you wanted another drink!'' The blonde bartender stated with a flirtatious smile.
''Eh, no. Another drink would be great, thanks. I'll have a ja-'' Alex started to reply but was cut off by the blonde.
''A jack and coke, on the rocks! Comin' right up!'' The blonde answered with a flirty wink.
''Yeah, thanks… I'm just gonna go to the bathroom.'' Alex said as she nodded thanks and began to walk away.
''No problem, I'll bring it over when your back!'' The bartender shouted after her.
A few minutes and a lot higher later, the brunette returned from the bathroom and slumped back into her seat at the booth.
No more than a few seconds after, the blonde bartender approached the table with the brunette's drink.
''Here you go, hon!'' The blonde said as she placed the drink in front of the brunette.
''Thanks, just put it on my tab.'' Alex replied uninterested.
''It's on me… I just finished my shift, and I was wondering if you'd like some company.'' The blonde bartender asked with a flirtatious smile.
Alex's eyes snapped towards the blonde at hearing her invitation, her undivided attention now on the bartender. 'As the saying goes, 'to get over someone you need to get under someone new', she might not be the blonde that I want but she's close enough!' Alex thought to herself.
''Thanks for the drink. Yeah, company would be great… Next round's on me!'' Alex replied with her best flirty wink, but truth be told her heart just wasn't in it.
''Great! I'll just go grab myself a drink and I'll be back.'' The blonde bartender smiled excitedly.
'It's better than being alone… I might as well get as much pussy as I can before I'm behind bars!' Alex thought to herself as she sipped her drink.
Piper and Polly had just finished the last of Polly's 'emergency' wine.
''I can't believe you stash wine at work, Pol… Lush much?'' Piper stated as she tried to drain the last drop of wine from her empty glass.
''It's in case of an emergency! You can't judge, Pipe. I knew it would come in useful someday!'' Polly replied, impressed with her good idea.
''Fair point! You got anymore stashed?'' Piper asked as she surveyed the room for hiding spots.
''No, just this now empty bottle. We've already called work quits for the day, how about we go to a bar?'' Polly suggested with an excited grin.
''Polly, it's barely past noon!'' Piper responded, shocked at the idea.
''Pipe, it's like 3pm! Don't tell me all that wine has gone to your head already. After everything you told me, you need a little excitement in your life! Come on, it'll be fun!'' Polly pleaded with her best friend, giving her puppy eyes.
''It's 3pm already? It's your turn not to judge, you know I'm a lightweight! It does sound fun, and God knows I could use another drink right now. Okay, where we going?'' Piper replied with a grin.
''Yay! Girl's night! There's this bar a few blocks from here that just opened, and I've been dying to go.'' Polly stated excitedly.
Alex sat in the booth across from the blonde bartender (who she learned was named Ashley). The brunette had a perfect view of the bar's front door and the more she listened to Ashley drone on about her uninteresting life, the more that she considered making a break for it. Not even being high could make this girl tolerably, if anything she was having the opposite effect and quickly sobering the brunette up.
After another ten minutes of insistent talking on Ashley's part, Alex was about to make a break for it when the bar door opened and in walked two familiar faces. Alex's heart skipped a beat and her stomach flipped when she laid eyes on the blonde that just walked through the door. The same blonde who was responsible for breaking her heart a second time and had been running through her mind before she even walked out of her apartment for the final time.
All thoughts of leaving the bar disappeared from her mind as she scooted down lower in her seat and hid from the blonde's line of sight. The other blonde (Ashley) gave her a questioning look but continued her ramble about what, the brunette had absolutely no clue.
A few hours and many drinks later (on both sides), Alex was dying to pee. The brunette had politely refused to leave the table to get drinks every time and encouraged Ashley to go, who was more than willing. Alex didn't want to be spotted by the other blonde (her blonde), but time was running out as her bladder was about to burst, it couldn't hold another sip. Alex took a deep breath and excused herself to go to the bathroom. 'I really need another bump if I'm going to get through tonight!' Alex thought to herself as she passed the blonde's table and tried not to look (failing miserably).
Piper was chatting to Polly in a very tipsy state as a song she liked began to play over the speakers and she started to hum along with it.
We started out as friends in the Lower East
Did a couple drugs at the house parties
Late nights in taxi cabs
Wish I could have 'em back
'Cause there's a lot of things that I never said
The song was bittersweet as it always reminded her of the time she spent with Alex and the memories they shared.
Now you're with somebody else in a different bed
You're happy, I could see
And that's so hard for me
As she listened to the lyrics, the blonde could have sworn that she saw the brunette walk past her, but she pushed the thought away and blamed it on her drunkenness.
When you walk in the bar with someone holding hands
Introduce me to her, say I'm just an old friend
And you ask how I've been
I say I'm doing fine but I'm lying
The brunette stole a quick glance over her shoulder (she couldn't help herself) and their eyes connected. Piper's blood ran cold as her suspicions were right… It was the one and only Alex Vause. 'Of all the bars in New York city, fucking Polly had to pick this one!' Piper thought to herself as her temper flared.
I take another shot, need the Novocaine
Wish it would numb my heart, way it numbs my brain
But it's all love
I don't feel it, but it's all love
As Alex disappeared behind the bathroom door, the blonde done a quick scan of the half empty bar. Piper's eyes landed on a cute, blonde who was sitting alone, but she noticed two drinks. 'That fucking bitch! She fucked me last night and broke my fucking heart, now she's gonna fuck a different blonde tonight!' Piper thought as she downed her drink and slammed it on the table, earning a concerned look from her best friend.
Should we forget about the past, is that how you cope?
Should we drink a little more of that rum and coke?
I don't know how to be
When she looks a bit like me
Piper gives her friend a (perfectly practiced) fake smile, waves her empty glass and nods towards the bar as she abruptly stands and walks in the direction of the bar for another round of drinks.
I take another shot, need the Novocaine
Wish it would numb my heart, way it numbs my brain
But it's all love
I don't feel it, but it's all love
The way you kiss on her neck
With that look in your eyes
Do it right in front of me
Kinda makes me wanna die
But it's all love
Hate the feeling, but it's all love
By the time the song comes to an end and changes to another upbeat pop song, the blonde is lost in her thoughts as she waits for the drinks. 'A blonde! Alex just HAD to choose a blonde… She fucking looks like me! I can picture her kissing her, biting her neck, fucking her with that intense look in her mesmerising, green eyes. Just like she did with me last night! Alex doesn't love me… She easily moved onto her next conquest without even a second thought about me! I hate her!'
Piper made her way back to their table with the drinks, Polly was glued to her phone and looked up smiling. Piper snuck a quick glance towards the brunette's table, the blonde was so lost in her previous thoughts that Alex had somehow walked past her at the bar and was back in her seat at the booth with the other blonde, who was seated close beside her.
''What took you so long, Pipe?'' Polly asked as she put her phone back into her bag.
''I ordered a margarita this time.'' The blonde answered bluntly.
''Mixing drinks… Do you think that's a good idea?'' Polly questioned with a judging look.
''I don't care, Pol. Tomorrow's Sunday! I just want to forget that this week ever happened!'' Piper replied taking a mouthful of her drink.
''I'll drink to that!'' Polly responded as she slightly tipped her wine glass in a cheers motion.
Alex exited the bathroom, slightly staggering towards her table as she tried to avoid the blonde at the bar. The brunette knew that Piper was aware of her presence in the bar, which put her on edge. Alex knew first-hand what the famous Chapman temper was like, and it could be very unpredictable at times. Knowing this, the brunette snorted a big bump of heroin before she left the bathroom, it was affecting her more than she remembered as she was swaying and staggering. 'I guess my body isn't used to this shit anymore… Being sober for so long lowers your tolerance levels!' Alex thought to herself as she sat down in their booth. Ashley wasted no time in moving round the booth and sitting close to the brunette.
''I missed you!'' Ashley said in her best attempt at a flirty voice, Alex tried her hardest not to roll her eyes.
''I'm back now.'' Alex replied as she tried to create some distance between them.
''Are you okay? You seem a little distant!'' Ashley asked with a caring expression.
''Yeah, it's just been a rough few days.'' Alex replied honestly.
''I can make it all better for you, baby!'' Ashley said seductively as she leaned in closer to the brunette.
Ashley connected her lips to the brunettes. Alex was too high to object and kissed her back, all the while imagining that it was a different blonde she was kissing.
Piper and Polly were another few drinks in when the brunette approached the subject that the blonde would sooner rather avoid.
''I know we're having a fun, girl's night out… But we have to talk about this eventually, Pipe. It'll be easier to understand you now, rather than when you have a few more margaritas in your system. We both know you're near your limit already!'' Polly stated as she took a sip of her wine, preparing herself for the fall out of this subject.
''Talk about what?'' Piper asked casually, playing dumb.
''Don't play dumb, Piper! You know what we need to talk about!'' Polly replied, getting frustrated.
''I'm not playing dumb, Polly! I'm asking, what part do you want to talk about? Larry? Alex? The sex? All of the above?'' Piper responded acting indifferent.
''Larry… We need to talk about Larry! What're you gonna do, Pipe? And I've heard enough about your sex with Supercunt to last me a lifetime. Don't even get me started on her! If I ever see her again, I'm gonna-'' Polly ranted but was cut off by a pissed off blonde.
''You're gonna what? If there's anything you need to say to her, suit yourself… She's over there!'' Piper replied taking a mouthful of her drink.
''What! Where?'' Polly asked surprised.
''Over there.'' Piper responded as she pointed to a booth in the back corner.
''What the fuck, Piper! Has she been here this whole time?'' Polly questioned as she stared at the booth in the corner.
''Yeah, she was here first. I only spotted her a while ago!'' Piper answered taking another mouthful of her drink.
''It that why you gulped down your drink, slammed it on the table and switched to margaritas?'' Polly asked putting the pieces together.
''Precisely!'' Piper agreed, taking another sip of her drink.
''Are you okay? Why didn't you say anything? Do you want to go to a different bar?'' Polly asked question after question.
''I'm totally FINE! What was the point, it isn't gonna change anything. I'm not leaving just because of her… And that stupid blonde that she's with. That stupid fucking blonde!'' Piper stated as she finished off her drink.
''I can't believe after last night that she picked a blonde, that's tacky! By the way, you're totally hotter that her. It's Supercunt's loss!'' Polly replied trying to support her friend.
''Thanks, Pol. I can always count on you!'' Piper said with a warm smile.
''Always, I've got your back! So… Back to Larry. What are you gonna do?'' Polly asked, changing the subject.
''I really don't know, Pol. I love Larry but I'm not in love with Larry. He's everything that I should want but I don't. I also don't want to be a lonely old spinster!'' Piper replied taking a sip of her drink, only to realise that it was already empty.
''Can we get a refill, please?'' Polly shouted over to the bartender as she waved her empty glass. ''If that's how you feel then you can't string him along, Piper. If you're only with him because you don't want to be alone that isn't fair on either of you.'' Polly explained giving her friend a sympathetic look.
''I know, Pol. I'll talk to Larry.'' Piper said in a small voice as she realised the weight of what was hanging over her.
It's not that Piper minded being alone. It was knowing that her soul mate was out there, literally across the room, but she couldn't have her. Not even 24 hours after they were intimate with one another, she had been replaced with a different blonde who slightly resembled her. Piper had imagined that this would happen, but to actually see it across the room was a different kind of heart break.
Suddenly, a familiar song drifted through the air from the speakers, bringing the blonde back to reality.
It's like, being on the outside of an inside joke
It's like, when they only got Pepsi and you really want Coke
It's like, finally get a text back and it's just your mom
It's like, when you just broke up and they play your song
I know I said it's kinda stupid
But it's just the way I'm feeling right now
And I hate that I can tell that someone's probably in my shoes
By now, right now
Piper stole a glance at Alex with her new blonde, who had her arm around her. The (ex) couple locked eyes, causing the brunette to shrug off Ashley's arm abruptly.
I know she thinkin' now she found herself a winner
I know you think about me when you kiss her
I left a taste in your mouth, can she taste me now?
That you threw out all our furniture and pictures
I bet you sugar-coat the truth, I bet you're real sweet with her
I know you think about me when you kiss her
I left a taste in your mouth, can she taste me now?
I'm bitter
As soon as Alex's eyes locked with Piper's, her heart started to beat faster, and her mouth became dry. Having the wrong blonde's arm (Ashley) around her, the brunette quickly shrugged it off, feeling like she was betraying Piper (her blonde). Ashley's innocent touch felt like it burned her skin under her blonde's (Piper) powerful gaze. Suddenly, Alex felt sick to her stomach from having the wrong blonde wrapped around her.
I'm bitter, I'm bitter, I'm bitter, I'm bitter
I don't wanna hear it, don't wanna hear 'bout you
It's like I don't give a fuck
Yeah, I do
I know you think about me when you kiss her
I left a taste in your mouth, can she taste me now?
I'm bitter
As the song came to an end, Piper broke their intense eye contact. Their connection was broken as if it hadn't even happened. Alex was so high that she wasn't sure if it was real or if she had just imagined the whole thing.
A few hours later, Piper was very drunk, she was past her normal drink limit a lot of drinks ago and it didn't help that she had been mixing her drinks. Polly was drunk too but she was sensible and stuck to wine, slowing down hours ago knowing that she was going to have to baby sit her best friend.
Alex was still at the bar, seated with the other blonde (Ashley) but after her intense moment with Piper, the brunette had made sure to maintain a safe distance from Ashley. Alex had excused herself to the bathroom shortly after, when she came back, she had deliberately sat across from Ashley instead of beside her. Ashley was unimpressed by this action, but it didn't stop her from trying to get into the brunette's pants.
Piper was at that happy, 'I don't give a fuck' stage of drunkenness, where she just wanted to sing along to any song she knew that played over the sound system. Polly had been mindlessly scrolling through her phone for the past half hour, not wanting to pressure her friend into leaving knowing that that she needed this night out. A new song started to play over the sound system and the blonde started to sing along, slurring her words as they blended together.
I'm so sick of seeing your face in every face
I'm so sick of missin' you
It's too late, and baby I'm done with comin' undone
I'm so sick of lovin' you
As Piper sang along, she threw a not so subtle look over her shoulder at her ex-girlfriend. Alex looked up immediately, it was as if they could always sense the other, even from far away.
I hope that band you like breaks up
Your new girl finds out you suck
You drop and shatter your phone
I hope your favourite bar shuts down
All your best friends, they leave town
I hope you spend your nights alone
Piper and Alex stared into the other's eyes without breaking contact. Even as Piper threw her a dirty look, the brunette still couldn't look away.
'Cause I've had one too many
I'ma say what I wanna say
And one more's one too many
But I just can't walk away
From all of these, all of these nights
Without you and drinks about you
I'ma say what I wanna say
'Cause I've had one too many
Alex could tell from looking at her ex-girlfriend that like the song stated, she had in fact had 'one too many'. As much as she wanted to, Alex could never walk away from Piper. That's why she always let the blonde be the one to walk away and she just watched as she did. Last night she couldn't even bear to watch, she had decided to just hide in the bedroom until she knew she was gone.
It's so sad someone I loved, is someone I hate
So sad that I'm hating you
I'm so over getting over you
I'm finding closure, 'cause it's overdue
Three, two, one too many
One too many
The song started to fade and was replaced with a new song. Piper was still staring intently at her ex-girlfriend, throwing her daggers with her eyes. 'If looks could kill… I'd be dead right now!' Alex thought to herself. The brunette took a deep, calming breath, for once she would have to be the one to break their connection. With a final look at her ex-girlfriend, the brunette looked away, breaking any remaining pieces of her heart along with the eye contact. Alex abruptly excused herself from the table, Ashley who had been talking relentlessly throughout the entire exchange and was none the wiser, looked offended at the brunette's sudden departure.
Alex ran to the bathroom and into the closest empty stall, pushing the door closed behind her but forgetting to lock it. The brunette grabbed the little baggie from her pocket, tipped a generous amount onto the back of her hand and snorted it. As soon as Alex inhaled, she was sent into oblivion and let her head fall back against the bathroom stall wall. She didn't even notice when the bathroom door swung open abruptly, revealing a blonde.
All Alex could see from her blurry drug induced high was blonde hair, she couldn't identify the face.
''Piper? Is that you?'' Alex slurred, hopeful.
''Piper? Who the fuck is Piper?'' Ashley demanded, angry.
''I'm so sorry, baby!'' Alex replied in her haze.
''Fuck you, Alex.'' Ashley shouted as walked out of the bathroom, slamming the door behind her.
Leaving the brunette leaning against the bathroom stall wall, confused.
Piper sat watching the scene unfold from her seat. Alex had run off to the bathroom, her blonde 'girlfriend' ran after her, and less than a minute later the blonde emerged from the bathroom alone and angry. The blonde stomped to their table to collect her things then left the bar. There was no sign of Alex since she went into the bathroom. 'Did they have a fight? I know Alex works fast but she couldn't have fucked her that quick! Is Alex still in the bathroom? She has to be, I never seen her leave!' Piper thought to herself.
Before the blonde's brain had time to register her actions, she was already on her unsteady feet.
''Pol, I'ma go pee. Back soon!'' Piper slurred as she left the table.
''Mmm, Kay!'' Polly replied, uninterested as she was glued to her phone.
Piper walked to the bathroom on wobbly legs as the alcohol flowed through her system. As the blonde entered, the bathroom looked deserted. All the stalls were empty, except one that had a half open door. On instinct the blonde walked to the half-closed stall.
''Alex?'' Piper whispered as she walked closer.
''…''
''Al?'' Piper asked again as she gently pushed open the door.
Piper couldn't believe her eyes when she seen the state of her ex-girlfriend.
Alex looked paler than her usual porcelain skin, she looked sickly pale. Sweat was dripping from her brow and her cheeks were flushed. Alex was looking through the blonde as if she wasn't there.
''Alex!'' Piper said louder this time as she put her hands on the older woman's shoulders.
''Piper? Is it really you?'' Alex asked in a mumble of words.
''Of course, it's me, Al.'' Piper reassured her ex.
''Pipes, are you real? Is this another dream?'' Alex questioned in a low, distant voice.
''Are you okay, Alex?'' Piper asked worried.
''I dunno… Feel weird!'' Alex mumbled.
Only then did Piper notice the substance on the brunette's face.
''What's on your face, Al? What is that?'' Piper asked as she touched it with the tip of her fingers.
''…''
''Alex, is that drugs?'' Piper asked with a look of horror. ''What did you take? What the fuck did you take?'' Piper screamed at the older woman.
''…''
''Answer me, Alex!'' Piper screamed as she shook the brunette.
''Nothing!'' Alex replied loudly.
''Don't you fucking lie to me!'' Piper shouted frustrated.
''Heroin.'' Alex answered in a low whisper, so low the blonde almost missed it.
''Jesus, Alex! You fucking idiot! We need to get you to a hospital!'' Piper demanded, trying to think what to do.
''No hospitals… Just stay here with me, Pipes.'' Alex replied in a calm voice.
''Alex, this is serious! Look at me, baby!'' Piper said as she gently held the brunette's chin and tried to look into her eyes which were black and unfocused.
Suddenly, the bathroom door flew open and in walked Polly.
''Pipe, what's all the screaming about? You're starting to draw a crowd!'' Polly asked as she walked closer to the blonde.
''Polly, help! It's Alex, something's wrong!'' Piper replied starting to panic.
''Supercunt? I told you something was wrong with her years ago!'' Polly answered with a chuckle.
''If you're not going to help me then just fucking leave!'' Piper screamed at her friend.
''Geez, Piper. I was only joking! What's wrong?'' Polly asked, suddenly worried.
''Come here!'' Piper said as she grabbed her friend's hand and pulled her into the bathroom stall.
Alex was slumped against the wall, looking pale, sweaty and with her eyes red, glassy and unfocused.
''Oh my god! Is she okay? Wait… Is she high?'' Polly asked worried.
''Yeah, she's high. I don't know what to do!'' Piper replied in a panic.
''Call 911!'' Polly said beginning to freak out.
''No!'' Alex objected. ''Pipes, no hospitals… Please?'' Alex begged.
''Fine, no hospitals. But we have to get her out of here before someone calls the cops!'' Polly stated, finally taking control of the situation.
''Okay… Where are we gonna take her?'' Piper asked, looking at Polly for an answer.
''We obviously can't take her to your house! And we can't take her to mine in case Pete tells Larry. What about her own house? Alex, can you hear me? Do you have your keys?'' Polly asked as she gently shook the brunette.
''Yeah, my jacket pocket.'' Alex replied and tried to find her keys, fumbling with no luck.
Piper leaned in and searched her pockets, finding the keys.
''Okay… Can you walk?'' Polly asked, unsure how drugs effect the body.
''Yeah!'' Alex replied as she stood up and stumbled a step or two until she corrected her balance. Piper looped her arm through the brunettes to keep her steady.
''Pipe, you escort her outside and I'm gonna go grab our things and hail a cab. Meet you out there!'' Polly ordered as she left the bathroom.
''I'm so sorry, Piper! I didn't mean it… I love you, babe!'' Alex said as she tried to focus on her blonde ex-girlfriend.
''I know, baby. It's okay.'' Piper replied, trying to reassure the brunette as they slowly walked outside.
'It's just the drugs talking, Piper. She won't even remember any of this. Alex meant what she said last night… She doesn't love you. It's just the drugs talking!' Piper thought to herself as she guided her ex-girlfriend to the waiting cab with Polly already inside.
Sorry if there's any mistakes, I just wanted to get it posted. But I'll read it later and fix any mistakes like I usually do! Let me know what you think guys, I'd love to hear your thoughts! It's a little darker than I originally intended but when I get in a way of writing sometimes my plans change course lol. Next chapter will have a better out come ;) Will Vauseman finally sort their shit out? Let's see what happens in chapter 10. I'm thinking another few chapters then the story will be complete, but like I said that can always change! Until next time, love you guys!
