At the Tower, Lena reported to the Super-Friends what Lex was up to. "He's assisting Nyxly in building an exo-suit that will make her immune to magical attacks," she said grimly.
"Well, okay then," Kara nodded not surprised.
"How do we know this is true? What if it's a trick?" Nia asked confused.
"We can use that to our advantage. I can create a data interception program that can help us track the suits. We'll know where he is soon," Lena said.
"I have a guess: It's the Luthor Mansion," Kara said obviously.
"Get the fuck out of here," Hank smiled scoffingly.
"That's great, Lena," Alex said sincerely looking like a lesbian lumberjack.
"I called a friend at Club Rialto, and she said her VIP suite is available for your engagement party if you want it," Lena said brightly. "Tonight."
"Lena, that's very nice of you but...," Alex said awkwardly.
"Vetoed," Kara said bluntly. "The situation in the world right now is unpredictable. The threat to you, Kelly, and Esme is too high. You can celebrate after Nyxly is dead."
"I say seize the moment because you could be dead the next," Mon disagreed.
"And when you're dead in heaven, you can reflect on how much of a dumbass you were for putting your life in jeopardy for no reason," Kara shot back.
"Look, I was going to say I was turning it down to stay at the Tower anyway but then you had to open your bitch mouth. So, we good now?" Alex asked Kara angrily.
"Yeah," Kara said taken aback.
"Damn it," Alex said as she read a text from her phone. "Esme got in trouble at school. Kelly is going to pick her up."
"Well...shit," Kara sighed.
At the Luthor mansion, Nyxly decided to begin the morning by mocking Lex as he played pool with himself. "So, they call you the Man of Tomorrow. What a lofty title? Did you come up with that on your own?"
"Actually, Cat Grant coined it at the Daily Planet," Lex corrected. "Speaking of news, I've started work on the exo-suits. I can show you what I've done so far."
"Not now. The truth totem comes first," Nyxly insisted.
At the Tower, Lena tracked one of Lex's exo-suits to the Gotham docks. "It worked. I have them now," Lena said showing a map on the computer monitor. Kara, Mon, J'onn, Brainiac 5, and Nia flew over to the docks and found Nyxly and Lex waiting for them. Beth Kane, the Batwoman, arrived on the scene as well.
"I knew from the very beginning you could track my suits," Lex taunted them as they arrived.
"It is you who have fallen into my trap," Nyxly smirked. "This little game is at an end."
Mon sped towards her for a punch. He merely went through her and quickly found himself encased in stone that materialized around his body. Kara went for an attack as well only to be telekinetically thrown to the ground. J'onn leaped to punch her to the head but was caught in Nyxly's grip. Nyxly made J'onn unable to phase out of her grip with her power. She then punched him to the ground knocking him out.
Brainiac 5 fired all of his onboard weapon systems from his arms at Nyxly from the air. Nyxly merely blocked his fire, telekinetically crushed the drone, and dismissively threw it aside. Beth extended her staff and threw it at Nyxly. The staff became suspended in the air and dropped at her feet. Beth then fired two pistols at a rapid pace at her. Nyxly merely let the bullets bounce off her and then threw Beth aside.
Kara rose up and gave Nyxly a solid uppercut to her chin. Annoyed, Nyxly went for a punch. Kara gripped her wrist with both hands to rip the gauntlet off her hand. The two struggled briefly as Kara cried out in effort as she was forced to her knees. Finally, Nyxly punched Kara to the ground with her other hand stunning her. Nyxly advanced on Nia having subdued the others. Nia fired a beam at Nyxly and stood her ground. Nyxly continued to advance slowly as she blocked Nia's beam and then bitch-slapped her to the ground.
"Sweet dreams," Nyxly smirked as she opened a portal to the dream world.
The Super-Friends all became sucked in instantly. Nia regained her senses and flew towards each of the Super-Friends. Once she had contact with them all, she created a portal of her own back to the Tower. "Fast thinking, Nia," Kara complimented.
"That was fucking weird," Beth remarked.
"What did we gain from that?" Hank wondered.
"When I fought Nyxly, she began to weaken. There's something about Gotham that weakens her powers," Kara realized.
At the Luthor mansion, Nyxly was pissed off. "I should have killed them," Nyxly shouted.
"You were merely toying with them as per usual," Lex consoled her.
"No, I was actually trying to kill them and I felt my powers vanishing. What the fuck is happening to me?" Nyxly raged. "When I arrived in that wretched city, I felt something happening to me."
"Forget about Gotham. You will find all the totems soon enough," Lex predicted.
"I'm tired of waiting, and I still think you want the totems for yourself," Nyxly accused.
"I can see why you might not trust me yet, but what is more important right now is that you trust in your own abilities," Lex said.
"And what makes you think I don't?" Nyxly asked crossly.
"Your power has not faded. There must be something in Gotham that drains you," Lex surmised. "I will always count on you to win."
"If Gotham takes away my powers, my enemies can use that city as a base," Nyxly said displeased. Her gauntlet then glowed as it detected another totem. "The truth totem," she identified.
"Don't you dare...," Nyxly warned Lex.
"I told you so," Lex smiled.
"Damn...it," Nyxly shook her head.
At the DEO fortress, Brainiac 5 entered a special white room to communicate with himself in the future. A hologram of the 31st century Brainiac 5 appeared before Brainiac 5. "I am you from 3024," B5 said to Brainiac 5.
"Damn it, you are handsome," Brainiac 5 complimented.
"I was just thinking the same," B5 concurred.
"We are sexy," Brainiac 5 noted.
"Affirmative, we are sexy bitches," B5 agreed.
"Listen, I need you to save the world while I get the girl," Brainiac 5 requested.
"Sure, what do you need?" B5 agreed.
"First, I need to know if merging with Nia Nal in a sexual context will have future ramifications for Nura. Will she no longer exist?" Brainiac 5 asked apprehensively.
"She will exist," B5 said confidently.
"Nice," Brainiac 5 said pleased. "Here, in this time, I have convinced Nia to love me, to start a family with me."
"That's not viable. You both lack the reproductive ability to procreate," B5 told him.
"Then, I request assistance to vanquish Nyxly," Brainiac 5 said.
B5 touched Brainiac 5's chest affectionately. "I will relieve you of your burdens shortly."
In a museum basement, Nyxly and Lex looked around for the truth totem. "Why would anyone collect all these trophies for no one to see?" Nyxly wondered.
"It's not about flaunting. It's about keeping others from having what you have," Lex said knowingly.
"The truth totem," Nyxly identified an old-fashioned camera. "Of course, a camera never lies. Cgyrzyx."
"To see things as they truly are, you must reveal the truth within yourself," the totem said to her as it glowed.
"I'm a bitch," Nyxly admitted.
"Now you may see the truth of who is worthy of your trust for you have performed admirably," the totem declared.
"Sweet," Nyxly said pleased and then placed the truth totem stone on her gauntlet.
At the Tower, Kelly and Esme arrived. "Aunt Kara!" Esme shouted upon seeing her.
"I heard you got into trouble at school today. What the fuck did you do?" Kara asked eyeing her intently.
"Her powers got a little out of hand," Alex admitted.
"I know an excellent wrongful death liability lawyer," Kara assured her.
"Nothing that serious. We're just going to run some texts and get to the bottom of it," Alex downplayed.
"I'm sorry, Esme. My powers got a little overwhelming at times for me, too, when I was little, but it gets better," Kara said wide-eyed.
"You were fourteen and you killed a shit-ton of people, Kara," Alex recalled.
"As I said, it gets better," Kara said.
"Hey, let's get you to the med bay and then we can come back," Kelly said breaking the tension. "See ya," she said as she took Esme away from Kara and Alex.
"You know what the answer is? Power dampeners," Kara said obviously.
"She had power dampeners before when she was at that terrible group home," Alex rejected. "I'm not going to control her like that."
"It's not about control, it's about relief," Kara said with false sincerity. "Like my glasses let me blend in."
"You used your glasses to lure your enemies into a false sense of security, so you could kill them at your leisure at everyone's expense," Alex recalled.
"You act like that's a bad thing," Kara scoffed.
"When you first came to Earth, it was dangerous to be an alien. It's not like that anymore," Alex insisted.
"Oh, really?" Kara doubted.
"She doesn't have to hide to fit in," Alex said. "And I'm not going to make her suppress who she is."
"Oh, we're doing a role reversal from six years ago and a gay reference? That's cool. How about not flaunting one's sexuality one way or the other in an elementary school classroom," Kara suggested. "The world is a dangerous place. Can you imagine how many people I could have accidentally hurt if I wasn't careful on how to handle my powers?"
"Kara, you must have killed fifty people in Midvale," Alex reminded her. "She needs to learn how to use her powers, not bury them."
"In time, when she's a legal adult capable of consenting," Kara said.
"The only one connecting super-powers with sexuality is you, Kara, because you're a sick fuck," Alex said impatiently.
"I'm just saying this because I have the experience. Do you have any idea what I went through?" Kara asked rhetorically.
"I was there, remember? Look, just because you were a crazy bitch that used her powers inappropriately for kicks and giggles doesn't mean Esme will turn out the same way. I wanted you and only you to bury your powers because you're fucked up and you fucked up my life in the process," Alex said scornfully.
"You think you know me? You don't. You don't have the powers of a god as I do. I raised two little angels with god-like powers of their own to maturity," Kara said arrogantly.
"She's my daughter, I'm raising her, and if I want your parental advice, I'll ask. And if I don't, you shut the fuck up," Alex shut her down and then walked off.
Kara eyed Alex leaving as she contemplated her next move.
Nia confronted Brainiac 5 in the lab. "You're going back to the future?" she asked incredulously.
"Your dreams are misinterpreted. I exist in the past, the present, and the future," Brainiac 5 said.
"Oh, well, okay," Nia said befuddled. "Wait, why can't I be with you in the future?"
"Why would you want that?" Brainiac 5 asked.
"Because this time sucks. I'm treated like a sub-human and discriminated against because I'm trans. Surely, the future is so much brighter and enlightened," Nia figured.
"Your optimism amuses me. In the future, your kind does not exist. The genes that are responsible for gender dysphoria have been modified via my evolution of humanity. In the event, someone does have gender dysphoria, it can be easily rectified. In short, transsexuality is a phenomenon of the past. You would be alone," Brainiac 5 told her.
"Maybe I'm okay with that. No one needs to know then. I'll be like any other woman in the future," Nia said.
"You're more useful in this time," Brainiac 5 denied as he gave her a hug.
"I want to have a baby," Nia revealed.
"Indeed," Brainiac 5 said intrigued.
At the Luthor mansion, Lex approached a depressed-looking Nyxly. "Butterscotch sticky buns?" he offered her.
"I don't like sweets," Nyxly shut him down.
"Well, more for me," Lex said as he tried one. "Thought you might need a little pick me up after your ordeal passing the truth totem."
"It was easy," Nyxly said dismissively.
"And yet, you haven't seemed like yourself since," Lex noted. "Remember, there's nothing that I wouldn't do for you."
Nyxly gave him an odd look, got up, and activated the truth totem on her gauntlet. "What's your deal?" she demanded of him.
"My only desire is to live by your side while destroying all of your foes that get in your way," Lex said honestly.
"And after I build the All-Stone, you're going to betray me?" she asked.
"No, betraying you is inconceivable," Lex said sincerely. "I've spent my whole life believing no one was worthy of me, until you. I want to help you achieve everything you want and deserve and I know I can do this for you because it is my only desire."
Nyxly released Lex from her gauntlet's hold. "Did I pass?" Lex asked.
"You have performed admirably," Nyxly smiled pleased.
Kara approached Hank on the balcony. "I have a theory that there's something in Gotham that neutralizes Nyxly's power. For the last two years, I have seen some really fucked up things in that town. There's an evil that lurks within it and I think that presence is fifth dimensional."
"What are you proposing?" Hank asked.
"We move our operations to Wayne Tower immediately," Kara said.
"As much as I hate that city, I think you're right," Hank agreed.
"Any news on Lex's exo-suits?" Kara asked.
"Lena's program has run into interference. It seems Lex has managed to block her," Hank said.
"Clever bastard," Kara smiled amused.
"I sense you're troubled," Hank said changing the subject.
"I know what I have to do, but I don't know if I have the strength to do it," Kara said referring to Esme.
"Esme has the ability to mimic any power she's in close proximity to. That's dangerous as fuck," Hank agreed.
"When I was younger, I hated school, I had no real friends, and I was miserable. The things I had to do to keep Alex, Eliza, and the people I cared about safe took a toll on me. I was so close to losing control and there were so many times I crossed the line," Kara said reflectively.
"We're protectors. It's what we do," Hank smiled at her.
"Esme's people are better off than now in the future. She should be with her own people," Kara judged.
"You have good intentions but you risk losing Alex if you take Esme away from her," Hank warned.
"I've already lost Alex," Kara said looking away.
"Then, why do you give a shit?" Hank asked confused.
"Because I still love her even if she doesn't love me," Kara said wiping away a tear.
"Doing the right thing is never easy and I'm torn as ever on this. I see you both as valuable employees I can't afford to lose," Hank said sincerely.
"My other sister would not hesitate to act," Kara said referring to Karina.
"Then, perhaps you should leave it in her hands," Hank suggested.
Mon strolled into the PI office adjacent to the Tower and sensed Esme's presence underneath a desk. "The fuck...you doing...kid?" he asked as he ate cookies.
"I'm playing hide and seek with my mom. Do you see her?" Esme asked adorably.
"Hate to break it to you, kid, but parents play hide-and-seek with their kids to get some peace and quiet for a few hours," Mon told her the truth.
Disillusioned, Esme came out from under the desk. "Did you bake something?" Esme asked of Mon's cookies.
"Nope, I bought them from a store," Mon clarified.
"My school is having a baking competition. I'm making chocolate roulade," Esme said proudly. "But Chelsea said it was stupid."
"That's not very nice. A girl should never be discouraged when it comes to her role in the kitchen," Mon said seriously.
"It's mom," Esme sensed as Kelly reentered the building.
"Keep what we said a secret, okay?" Mon requested of her.
"Absolutely," Esme smiled and then darted off.
Kara awkwardly entered the lab where Alex was working. "Damn," Alex sighed.
"So...is this a bad time?" Kara asked coming in.
"I still don't have the result from the blood test," Alex said frustrated.
"We may not need Esme's blood test after all," Kelly interjected as she came in. "I just got off the phone with the school. There's a new alien in the class, a Tattamite."
"Holy shit. Wait...what the fuck is a Tattamite?" Kara wondered.
"They have powerful tempers and can manifest distinctive skin markings, which they use as camouflage," Alex recalled.
"It would account for Esme's erratic powers and her anger," Kelly reasoned.
"Thank God," Alex said relieved.
"So, this means we simply expel the Tattamite from the school. Problem solved," Kara said brightly.
"No, we help Esme learn to deal with it. The solution to diversity is not to expel it," Kelly lectured.
"Let's agree to disagree," Kara smiled condescendingly.
"As a contingency plan, we should consider other schools in the area," Alex allowed.
"Yeah, like in Gotham. We're all leaving for Gotham...now," Kara ordered.
"Supergirl, Nyxly, and Lex are in the tower," Lena said alarmed.
Kara, J'onn, and Mon searched the Tower for Nyxly and Lex coming up with nothing. "You find them?" Kara radioed J'onn.
"Nothing," J'onn said looking around. "I'm about to search the...," he said and then cut out as Nyxly eliminated radio communication in the building.
Nyxly and Lex suddenly ambushed Kara from the side, firing Kryptonite weapons at her. Kara dropped to the floor stunned. "Where's your sister? Once we distpatch with her, I don't have to wear this ridiculous suit," Nyxly said to Lex.
"She can't be far," Lex assured her.
"You're not going to get to her," Kara promised as she struggled to get to her feet.
"It seems you keep forgetting that I always get what I want," Lex reminded her as he fired nanomachines into her body. Kara cried out in pain as the machines started to tear her up from the inside.
"That looks like it hurts," Nyxly said amused.
"Just some Lex Corp. nanobots to soften her up," Lex explained.
Nyxly and Kara fired beams at each other at the same time. Nyxly easily overpowered Kara and blasted her across the Tower basement where she slammed into the lab. "Take care of the Martian," Nyxly ordered Lex as she advanced on Kara.
Nyxly walked up to an injured Kara. "Poor deluded Supergirl. So naively hopeful despite overwhelming long odds," she mocked.
Kara cocked her right fist back and punched her as hard as she could to the chest. Nyxly merely shook her head amused and swatted Kara back down only to find it was an illusion. "What the fuck?" Nyxly wondered looking around.
In the halls, an exo-suit confronted J'onn. He immediately pointed his plasma rifle at the exo-suit only to be fired upon from the back by Lex. "That was easier than I thought," Lex smiled as J'onn fell to a knee.
Lex went to fire again when J'onn sank through the floor. Lex looked around wondering where J'onn had gone. J'onn then phased through the floor behind the exo-suit and punched through its back disabling it. After tearing it apart, J'onn advanced on Lex. "Can we talk about this?" Lex asked as J'onn charged at him.
J'onn took hold of Lex and ripped off the suit exposing him. J'onn then dropped Lex to the floor knocked out.
In the air, Kara flew quickly towards Gotham creating sonic booms as she did. Nyxly quickly figured out she was trying to escape to Gotham and pursued after her. Nyxly fired on Kara barely missing her. As Kara came closer to the Gotham city limits, the Batwing came in on an intercept course. Launching missiles, the Batwing got a direct hit on Nyxly devastating her. Nyxly fell into the bay and did not come back up. The Batwing then escorted a struggling Kara to Wayne Tower. As she got closer to Wayne Tower, Kara lost altitude and slammed into the lobby spraying glass and debris everywhere. Wayne Enterprise employees scattered upon seeing the injured Kara on the floor barely able to move.
Brainiac 5 quickly came to Kara's side and injected her with X-Kryptonite and a nano-machine neutralizer to her neck. "Is everyone here?" Kara asked.
"Everyone is accounted for," Brainiac 5 confirmed.
Kara struggled to get back to her feet and eyed her gawking employees. "Mrs. Wayne," one of them wondered. Kara gave him the hush signal and made her way to the elevator.
In her office, Kara was back in her civilian clothes. "Thank you for getting them all out," she said to Mon.
"Too easy," he shrugged.
Alex, Kelly, and Esme exited the elevator entering the office. "Let's give a round of applause to Esme, our baking champion," Kelly said joyfully. Esme held her stuffed animal with the #1 award on its chest in her arms.
Kara gave them all a shell-shocked look. "Great, excellent work for a girl her age," Mon complimented and then gave Esme a high-five.
Kara gave them all a serious expression. "For whatever reason, Nyxly's powers don't work in Gotham. None of you are to leave this city again."
"That wasn't part of the deal," Alex objected.
"I'm altering the deal. Pray...I don't alter it any further," Kara said dismissively.
"Well, I guess we can home school then," Kelly said brightly.
"I can offer you any school curriculum you want," Brainiac 5 offered.
"Thanks, Barney," Kelly said appreciatively.
Kara turned to Hank. "Is Lex still alive?"
"Yes," Hank confirmed.
"So, with Nyxly unable to get to us in Gotham, we can still have an engagement party here, right?" Lena suggested.
"Sure," Kara allowed but without enthusiasm. "Barney can set you all up with your new living arrangements. No one goes out in the streets alone."
"Well, we all better get ready. We have much to celebrate," Hank said escorting everyone out.
"Alex, can I have a word?" Kara stopped her.
Alex sighed. "I'll catch up," she said to Kelly.
Kara and Alex faced off now alone. "I just want to make sure we're okay after earlier...," Kara said awkwardly.
"You mean when you first arrived?" Alex asked dryly.
"I only want what is best for you," Kara said sincerely. "I wish I could make this easier for you."
"You've done so much to help me. I'm really lucky to have had you in my life but our history is also toxic and ugly," Alex said honestly. "I don't want what happened in Midvale to happen again."
"What should I have done in Midvale?" Kara asked.
"You shouldn't have felt responsible to kill and take down bad guys. It turned you into what you are today instead of that happy cheerful little girl I see in Esme. Had you not been thrown into this war, maybe you could have been happy and innocent like Esme is. And I take responsibility for some of it. I got myself into trouble, investigated where I shouldn't have, and forced your hand," Alex said.
"Had I not stepped up, more people would have died and suffered," Kara said flatly.
"Or the government would have gotten off its ass and fixed it, themselves," Alex suggested. "The DEO was watching us the whole damn time and did very little in Midvale. They wanted to see what you would do and you didn't disappoint."
Kara looked away out the window contemplating whether her actions in Midvale were truly necessary. "I have no regrets. Midvale made me battle-ready for the criminal Kryptonians, the Insane invasion, Leviathan, and now Nyxly. It prepared me for ruling a galactic empire and taking charge in this city."
"I don't want Esme to have the same life we had," Alex said bluntly.
"If you want Esme to have a better life, give her to me so I can take her back to her people in the future," Kara said to her.
"Once we deal with Nyxly, the war is over. I can start fresh and live a normal life with Kelly and Esme," Alex insisted
"Alex, you're cursed," Kara told her.
There was an awkward silence between them. "I don't believe that," Alex said unsettled.
"No matter how good a fighter you are or how great a mom you will be, there's no denying it. I didn't bring this misery upon you. It's the other way around. There's something within you that draws in danger and evil. You must be under my protection," Kara said forcefully.
At the Luthor mansion, Nyxly sulked as she stared at her gauntlet to give her a clue to the last totem. "Hey, I just want to thank you for not leaving me behind back there at the Tower," Lex said gratefully.
Nyxly glared at him. "Would you rather be alone?" Lex asked.
"No, don't leave," Nyxly stopped him. "I'm actually quite tired of being alone."
"I will always be here for you," Lex said sincerely.
"The longer you're around, the move you put yourself at risk. I thought you wanted to live?" Nyxly asked him. "Or maybe you know the Super-Friends will never kill you."
"We can use their sympathy towards me to our advantage," Lex told her. "To draw them out of Gotham."
"What is in Gotham that causes me to lose my magic?" Nyxly asked him.
"I don't know. A rival fifth-dimensional being, perhaps? Maybe you have invaded his or her territory," Lex considered.
Nyxly showed a hologram of Gotham's history from her gauntlet. "For centuries, the city of Gotham has been cursed whether it be fire, crime, disasters, wars. It can't be a coincidence that it's the worst city in the world and yet people continue to flock towards it like a moth to a flame."
"Come now, there are worse places like Detroit for example," Lex scoffed.
"Detroit used to be an industrial paradise but Gotham has always remained the same despite the best efforts of its most honorable citizens," Nyxly considered as she saw Thomas and Martha Wayne gunned down. "There is a fifth-dimensional being there, hiding, lurking in the shadows."
"Even without your magic, you are still a force to be reckoned with," Lex assured her.
"There is a Horcrux of mine I need you to retrieve for me. if you succeed, you will have gained my trust," Nyxly said.
At The Curse nightclub, Kara escorted the Super-Friends inside all wearing formal wear and then to a table. They included Alex, Kelly, James, Lena, Hank, Mon, Brainiac 5, Nia, and Beth. "Alright, drinks are on me. Enjoy yourselves," she said about to take off.
"No, Kara, stay," Alex stopped her.
"Well, in that case, a toast to Kelly and Alex," Kara said raising her glass.
Everyone else rose their shot glasses, clinked them, and drank down. "Vodka, nice choice," Alex approved.
"It's a great choice," Kelly agreed. "And so is this song. Dance floor, you and me, come on, let's go," Kelly ordered Alex as the macarena was playing.
"Look at them," Nia mused as she saw Alex and Kelly dancing badly to the song. Shaking her head, she departed from the table towards the bar. Brainiac 5 followed after her.
"Well, I'm going to dance. What's the point of saving the world if you don't get to enjoy it sometimes?" Lena said.
"Here, here," Hank agreed.
"Especially on a momentous day like this," Lena added. She then eyed James expectedly. "That means, move your ass, James," she scolded.
"Ball and chain already," he muttered as he got up to dance with her.
At the bar, Brainiac 5 approached a distressed Nia. "I'd ask how you're holding up but I already know," Brainiac 5 said.
"What I would give for one of your emotional inhibitors right now," Nia said sadly.
"I can install one in your brain if you want," Brainiac 5 offered.
"It's just all this happiness is making me sad. I can't stop thinking that we're not right for each other," Nia said tearfully
"You don't have to think about that now," Brainiac 5 said without emotion.
"I can't tell whether you're real," Nia said to him.
"You can feel my hand, my shoulders, my face," Brainiac 5 said as he brought her hand to his prosthetic skin. "That's all that matters."
"Well, tonight is not the night to think about my problems and my feelings. We're here to celebrate Alex and Kelly," Nia said wiping away her tears.
"Correct," Brainiac 5 confirmed.
"I didn't intend to feel this way coming here. I'm truly grateful for everything you have given me through all the pain and loss. It truly meant something to me, and I always want you to be with me no matter where I go," Nia said.
"Come, I'll teach you how they dance in the future," Brainiac 5 offered.
At Wayne Manor, Brainiac 5 and Esme cooked desserts. "You make an excellent assistant baker," Brainiac 5 told her as he condescendingly shook her hand.
"It's an honor to serve," Esme said cutely.
"Time to clean up," Brainiac 5 ordered. As they were about to, the security system alert came on. "Go play hide and seek."
"Okay," Esme said running off.
The doors opened with Lex entering armed with a plasma rifle. "Barney, nice to see you again. Where's the Dyralian?" he asked.
"Around," Brainiac 5 said vaguely.
"Impressive mansion. It gives my own a run for its money," Lex said impressed with the place.
"You want Esme because she's a Horcrux," Brainiac 5 figured.
"Kind of fucked up that you kept her around so to kill her once you have destroyed the other Horcruxes. That is your plan, right?" Lex asked mockingly.
"Maybe," Brainiac 5 replied.
"That makes me the good guy," Lex said obviously.
"Perhaps," Brainiac 5 said unconcernedly.
Lex aimed his rifle at Brainiac 5 and fired.
Elsewhere in the mansion, Esme could hear Brainiac 5's voice down the halls. "Esme, come out. The game is over. You win," he said.
Esme came out of the closet and found herself looking at Lex holding a voice modifier. "There you are," Lex smiled.
"Do I know you?" Esme wondered.
"I'm a friend of your mom," Lex said.
"Where's Barney?" Esme asked.
"Well, he's there and there, and also there," Lex said mocking implying he was in pieces. "I'm going to take care of you now. I saw the cookies you and Barney made. They look scrumptious. You and I ought to have a tea party. Would you like that, Esme?"
Esme merely nodded. "We're going to have the grandest time, you and I," Lex smiled and then portaled them both away.
At the engagement party, Brainiac 5 walked up to Kara. "Lex has disabled the drone and taken Esme from Wayne Manor," he whispered.
"Was Nyxly with him?" Kara asked.
"No," Brainiac 5 replied.
"Don't tell anyone. I want Alex and Kelly to enjoy their night," Kara ordered.
"Of course," Brainiac 5 agreed.
"Problem?" Beth asked coming to Kara's side.
"Not at all. In fact, everything is going according to plan," Kara replied.
Author's Notes: Kara is just flat out wrong to encourage and allow Alex and Kelly to go forward with their engagement party while under threat and leaving Esme alone with just one human guard. William didn't even have a gun to arm himself with. The tattoo on the neck obviously meant Esme had become the totem. Evil prevails when good is stupid.
