Oblivious to what was happening outside, Kara zipped around the Bat-Cave looking for the Horcrux crown. After a few minutes, Kara became frustrated thinking the imp might be fucking with her. Looking around, she saw the Batmobile parked on a platform, the Batwing hanging on the ceiling, and the Batboat chilling in the underground lake. She looked over at the Bat-computer and the changing room with all of Bruce's Batman uniforms.
"Forgive me, Bruce," Kara said sadly and then unleashed a solar flare that blasted the Bat-Cave with light and fire. The energy discharge rattled the mansion above and reached every end of the cave. The lead case with the Horcrux melted under the extreme heat. With the cave walls glowing red, Kara found the shiny Horcrux and then zipped over to it deep inside the cave. Picking it up, Kara felt tempted to put the crown on her head and recalled her own crown in the future. Hesitating for a moment, Kara finally fired heat vision on the crown melting it to nothing.
Outside, Nyxly faced down the Vindicator Corps. with some apprehension. "I've assessed the situation and I'm leaving," she said moving towards the barrier edge.
Saturn Girl took hold of Nyxly telekinetically, crushed her torso, and threw her across the sky a few miles away from the barrier. As Nyxly landed, XS was on her in a flash punching her several times a second from all directions. Nyxly was continuously rattled as she was punched without stopping. Saturn Girl turned to her short-range fighters.
"Release the hounds," she said lazily.
Chameleon Boy transformed into a snarling wolf monster while Timber Wolf fell to all fours as he sped towards Nyxly. Brainiac 5 came to Saturn Girl's side. "Transmit my strategy to the others with your telepathy," he ordered.
"What am I? A radio tech operator?" Saturn Girl asked insulted.
"Imra, this isn't the time," Brainiac 5 rebuked her.
"We will work together on this one," Saturn Girl allowed. She turned to Nura. "Dream our victory path."
"I can't fight and sleep at the same time," Nura said obviously. "Probably should have brought two Dreamers to the battlefield," she chided.
Saturn Girl bristled at that and then noticed Nia. "What do we have here?" she asked as she eyed Nia and then read her memory. Saturn Girl went back to Brainiac 5. "The fuck?"
"I don't have to justify my social experiments," Brainiac 5 said defensively.
"Looks like we have our spare," Saturn Girl said as she forced Nia to fall asleep. Saturn Girl then advanced on Lena. "The Supreme Leader feels you're critical to this battle. Follow our instructions," she ordered.
"Sure," Lena said anxiously as the Vindicators surrounded her.
XS continued to pound on Nyxly with punches that were as loud as gunshots. Nyxly hissed in discomfort and manipulated the ground to catch XS ankle. XS easily twisted out of the trap and kicked Nyxly to the head. Nyxly then grabbed XS throat to give her an instant kill. Timber Wolf intervened swiping at Nyxly face. Nyxly released XS as her face was shredded. Timber Wolf tore at Nyxly with a strength equivalent to Superman with razor-sharp claws. Nyxly punched Timber Wolf off her only for a black tail to impale her through the back. Chameleon Boy, as a twisted Xenomorph creature with wings, opened his mouth and bit her to the back of the head. Nyxly phased her front to her back and punched Chameleon Boy to the chest. Acidic blood got all over Nyxly as Chameleon Boy screeched away.
"Fuck," Nyxly hissed as she felt the acid on her.
Chameleon Boy morphed into his original form and then became an alien hammer-head rhino. With his head, he slammed Nyxly repeatedly. Nyxly leaped away from him, materialized a spear, and then took him down to the ground. A shadow from the ground wrapped around Nyxly and strangled her throat. Shadow Lass kept Nyxly perfectly still as XS and Timber Wolf punched and swiped at her. As Nyxly resisted, Shadow Lass drew shadows from all the trees around her to wrap up Nyxly even tighter. Phantom Girl suddenly rose from the ground, phased through Nyxly's chest, and forced her heart out of her. Timber Wolf added insult to injury by slitting Nyxly's throat.
"It couldn't be that easy," Phantom Girl doubted.
"You call that easy?" XS asked exhaustedly.
"Withdraw," Timber Wolf ordered as Nyxly body began to glow.
The Vindicators withdrew as Nyxly regenerated herself and gave off an intense light that neutralized Shadow Lass' shadows. Shadow Lass then took out her sword and gave the encantation: Suzumushi Tsuishiki: Enma Kōrogi (Cricket Final Form: Devil Cricket) A giant black tent appeared around Nyxly neutralizing all of her senses.
Kara arrived on the battlefield and eyed the damage around her. Suddenly, Mon instantly teleported next to Kara's side with James and Beth. In the distance, the Vindicators and Nyxly were battling it out. Kara eyed Alex and Kelly over Esme's body. "That wasn't part of the plan," she said softly.
"The All-Stone has been destroyed and Nyxly's fifth-dimensional powers are neutralized so long as we keep her inside the barrier," Brainiac 5 informed her.
"The locket Horcrux was destroyed," Mon reported.
"Then, all of the Horcruxes have been destroyed. She's now vulnerable," Kara said optimistically. "If we can't kill her, we keep her in the barrier for as long as possible. All other considerations are secondary," she ordered Saturn Girl.
"As you wish, Supreme Leader," Saturn Girl replied.
"Soften her up. I'm a little emotionally compromised at the moment," Kara said referring to Alex's pain.
Saturn Girl turned to Cosmic Boy. "Have your team engage the enemy," she ordered.
"Engage the enemy," Cosmic Boy said to Ultra Boy.
The short-range fighters backed off as Ultra Boy's team flipped into action with their respective catchphrases:
Ultra Boy: Dragon Shit!
Star Boy: Black Power Mother-Fucker!
Lightning Lass: Lube My Tube!
Colossal Boy: My Dick is Long!
Triplicate Girl: Me love you long time!
Sun Boy: José Canseco!
Nyxly tore apart the black tent with a flash of light and placed her hand on the ground materializing a giant crab along with a humanoid-sized army of crabs. "I got crabs," she smirked at them.
"Shit! I already got that shit. I can't get any more," Sun Boy said to his team.
"I fuck bitches for a living," Colossal Boy revealed.
"Egg roll daggers, $2.99," Triplicate Girl said as she armed herself.
"Oh, yeah! Chicken and watermelon!" Star Boy said enthusiastically.
"I'm barely eighteen," Lightning Lass admitted.
Nyxly looked upon the team unimpressed. "You've never had my crabs before. I will fuck you up," she said as her crab army advanced.
"This bitch don't know who the fuck I am. I'm José Canseco!" Sun Boy said as he fired a beam of light directly at Nyxly.
"Kage no Bushin!" Triplicate Girl shouted as she formed several dozen versions of herself all armed with daggers. The Triplicate Girl army then ripped through the crabs towards Nyxly.
"Have you ever seen so much ass and pussy?" Star Boy asked amazed at Triplicate Girl.
"This is only half of my dick," Colossal Boy said referring to his forearm.
Lightning Lass formed a bow of electrical energy and fired off hundreds of electrical arrows at Nyxly's general location creating an explosion of dust. Star Boy fired on the giant crab increasing its mass to the point that it could no longer move. Colossal Boy then reached skyscraper height and then slammed his fist on the giant crap bursting it open. With the crabs gone from the battlefield, the Alpha team focused all of their fire on Nyxly with energy beams, electrical discharges, and gravity manipulation waves.
Nyxly hissed as she fell to a knee as her mass dramatically increased. The ground cracked under her feet from her enormous weight. At the same time, she was being hit constantly. As soon as she neutralized a Vindicator strike, another came right at her. Star Boy landed near Nyxly and pointed his hand at her. "I can increase the weight of whatever I hit until my opponent can no longer bear their weight and falls to the ground. And then they bow their heads as if to apologize. So, let's see you apologize," Star Boy taunted.
Nyxly got back to her feet as she normalized her gravity and made Star Boy much lighter to the point that he floated away towards space. "Oh, shit," he realized.
A lightning arrow at maximum strength hit Nyxly blasting off her right arm and a hole in her torso. Colossal Boy grabbed Nyxly off the ground to crush her death. A box of black energy appeared around Colossal Boy's giant frame and then black beams of light went through it. When the black box evaporated, Colossal Boy was a bloody mess with Nyxly perfectly healed.
"I think I landed on my dick," Colossal Boy groaned as he went back to normal size.
Ultra Boy sped towards Nyxly with super speed, created a ball of spinning air in his hand, and blasted her to the torso with it. Nyxly went spinning back until she settled on the ground. Ultra Boy leaped up and fired on Nyxly with green light and materialized a sword in his hand. Nyxly also materialized a sword and dueled with him. "This is not your fight, boy," Nyxly said to him.
"I must be victorious for my queen!" he said to her and slashed her several times with his sword. As Nyxly backed away, Ultra Boy dropped his sword to the ground and blasted Nyxly from below her feet. Nyxly raised her hand and fired on him. Ultra Boy formed a shield around himself and advanced towards her. The two engage in swordplay with both getting hits on the other. Finally, Nyxly overwhelmed Ultra Boy with a beam from her sword causing Ultra Boy to flip on his back. Nyxly went for the kill when a squad of Triplicate Girls took the brunt of the attack and turned to smoke. Ultra Boy then teleported away from Nyxly back to his squad. Upon seeing the injured Colossal Boy, he immediately healed him of his injuries and then his own.
Nyxly fired on the squad blasting them to their feet dazing and confusing them. "Get back to the control point," Saturn Girl ordered telepathically.
"Alright, team, time to go. We fucked up!" Ultra Boy ordered. "Taste the rainbow," he said as he teleported his team back to the control point in a wave of rainbow light.
As soon as Ultra Boy's team arrived back at the control point, Saturn Girl started firing off orders. "Sierra Bravo, power up the Supreme Leader," she ordered. Sun Boy fired on Kara giving her a power boost.
"Just imagine if I took so much power from the sun, it lowered global temperatures and darkened the surface of the Earth for several months without telling anyone or having any accountability," Kara mused.
"Sounds kind of fucked up, Supreme Leader," Sun Boy remarked.
"Doesn't it?" Kara nodded.
"A spirit bomb is required to take Nyxly out," Mon suggested.
"With Gotham citizens? You have to be fucking kidding me," Kara doubted.
"Perhaps, you underestimate them," Brainiac 5 said.
"Knock yourself out, Mon. Just don't kill them," Kara said.
"I'm going to need them to think positive thoughts and raise their hands," Mon added.
"Barney, Myriad their ass," Kara ordered.
The hidden Myriad tower at Wayne Tower suddenly turned on and took control of the minds of the Gotham citizens to stop their wretched ways and think positively. Mon held up his hand as a white orb formed. "This could take a while," he said dryly.
Saturn Girl addressed her Vindicators. "Whiskey Foxtrot-Echo Lima, go!" she ordered in their minds. Saturn Girl formed a forcefield bubble around Nyxly while Element Lad's hands glowed. WildFire flew into the air and waited for the signal.
"Now," Element Lad signaled.
WildFire fired a stream of fire into the forcefield bubble. It ignited with the propane in the air and caused a massive explosion that roasted the forest. "Mother Nature just pissed her pants right now!" Element Lad laughed as the shockwave of the explosion hit him.
"Whiskey Foxtrot-Charlie Bravo-Echo Lima, go!" Saturn Girl ordered in their minds.
Nyxly got back to her feet annoyed by the intense burn. WildFire hit Nyxly with continuous fire creating a fire tornado around her. Element Lad placed his hand on the ground turning it to metal. Cosmic Boy uprooted the metal from the ground and covered Nyxly's body in it. Nyxly slowly walked towards the Vindicators as the metal melted all over her body. Saturn Girl then telekinetically sent a stream of water from the nearby lake onto Nyxly so that her metal-covered body cooled rapidly. Element Lad waved away the heated steam into harmless helium.
"Fuck yeah," he said in a high-pitched voice.
Nyxly emerged annoyed but unharmed. "Is this bitch for real?" Saturn Girl wondered. "Lima-Lima, Charlie Bravo, go!" she ordered. A forcefield fell around Nyxly. Cosmic Boy created a magnetic field around Nyxly as well. Lightning Lad entered the field and fired off several lightning balls at Nyxly creating a blinding flash of light. Saturn Girl and Cosmic Boy worked to keep the electrical discharges inside the field. Lightning Lad punched at Nyxly at the speed of light with electrical discharges as powerful as lightning. Putting his hands together, he fired continuous streams of lightning at her.
"Now," Lightning Lad said in his head.
The dome shield came down as a lightning surge from the clouds came down on Nyxly giving her the full power of every lighting strike on the planet at once. The thunder blasted out the windows of Gotham and stunned the inhabitants. Saturn Girl formed an energy shield around the Super-Friends as the thunder shockwave hit them.
When the smoke cleared, Nyxly was on her knees with the ground underneath her red hot."You done warming up?" she mocked.
"Delta Golf, go," Saturn Girl ordered frustrated.
Nura fired a portal behind Nyxly to the dream realm and then fired off beams of light at Nyxly pushing her in. Nura then entered the portal and engaged with Nyxly in the air as they fell towards the surface of the dream realm. Upon landing, Nura fired a cable around Nxyly's ankle bringing her towards her. Nura then powered a blast in her right hand and blasted a hole through Nyxly's gut. Before Nyxly could recover, Nura backhanded Nyxly to the face twisting her head around.
"Welcome to my nightmare," Nura smirked and then blasted Nyxly to pieces.
"Is that all you got? You're only a slight improvement from the other one," Nyxly mocked as she emerged from one of the spires. Nura formed a shield around her as Nyxly fired on her.
Nura and Nyxly engaged each other on an equal level with punches and kicks that slammed them into individual spires. Nura fired a beam behind Nyxly and kicked Nyxly into an energy web attached to several spires. Nura then flew up into the air and pointed her hand at the entire field. Space and time folded as a bottomless pit emerged underneath Nyxly. The spires of all the dreams of humanity sank into the pit as the pit got bigger creating a black hole.
"If you do this, the dreams of mankind will be extinguished," Nyxly warned her.
"And what makes you think I have a problem with that?" Nura asked rhetorically as the pit took the entire field of spires. Inside the pit, Nura saw a flash of light indicating Nyxly had escaped. "Shit," she realized and then teleported herself back to the battlefield.
Nyxly emerged from a portal mentally and physically exhausted but still whole. "Sierra Victor, what is your status?" Saturn Girl asked.
"Still working," Shrinking Violet reported back.
"This is the best I can do," Mon said of his meager spirit bomb.
Kara merely nodded. Mon teleported to Nyxly's position and blasted her with the spirit bomb. The explosion burned through Nyxly's body as her sins turned against her. Mon then teleported back to the control point as Nyxly recovered. In pain and frustration, Nyxly screamed in rage with a flash of light. Saturn Girl put up her hands to shield the Vindicators from the discharge.
Cosmic Boy, Lightning Lad, Ultra Boy, Dream Girl, WildFire, Sun Boy, Star Boy, and Lightning Lass fired on Nyxly all at once in an intense exchange of fire. The ground and trees were lit up from the intense exchange of energy beams. Cosmic Boy sent continuous metal pieces from all around him at Nyxly. Element Lad had transformed the ground, the bushes, the trees, and everything around them into metal for Cosmic Boy's use. All the while the air around Nyxly turned to hydrogen creating explosions with each beam that came close to her. Whenever Nyxly wounded one of the Vindicators, Ultra Boy switched his power to heal them. The Vindicators kept advancing with slow steps increasing their rate of fire.
Unable to get past the Vindicators to the barrier, Nyxly went straight for Gotham. Nia then awoke. "No, you can't do this!"
"What's the dream?" Kara ordered.
"I can't, I won't," she shook her head dismayed.
"Your thoughts betray you," Saturn Girl said as she read her mind and then communicated the dream to Kara telepathically. Kara shed a tear but then focused herself.
"Mon, J'onn, James, Barney, Beth, Lena, let's move," Kara ordered.
As they gathered around Mon to teleport to Gotham, Kara approached Alex still with Esme's body. "You were right," Alex said softly. "I suck as a mom."
"If that were true, she wouldn't have sacrificed herself for the world. We both know she's in a better place now," Kara said softly.
"How can I keep going after this? I let an innocent child die," Alex said sobbingly.
"The same way we both kept going after Ryan died," Kara said referring to their adopted brother in Midvale.
"Just go. I'm holding you up," Alex dismissed her away.
"Esme brought out a power in you I have never seen before. You have only begun to realize your potential, Alex. This isn't the end of your story. It's only the beginning. And for every life you lose, you will save a million more. That is what I believe," Kara said sincerely.
"You do what you have to do to win," Alex said to her. "Then, we can talk."
Kara nodded and then addressed the Vindicators. "Recover your strength should we fail," she ordered them.
"Yes, Your Highness!" they all shouted in unison.
"Impressive light show," Kara smiled at them. "Most impressive," she said and then flew off.
Nyxly went for the other side of the barrier towards the bay when Saturn Girls' telekinetic shield prevented her. She then landed in downtown Gotham and intended to use the civilians as a human shield while she recovered. Kara, Mon, Brainiac 5, J'onn, James, Beth, and Lena teleported into Gotham ready for action. James pushed a button on his chest activating his Guardian suit. Beth pushed a button on her belt giving herself a Batwoman Beyond suit.
"You may have weakened my strength, but I can still summon all sorts of shit," Nyxly said as she teleported a dragon, a liquid metal monster, Red Tornado, Parasite, Metallo, and Karina in her Red Daughter uniform. Karina's eyes glowed red completely under Nyxly's control.
"Surrender or the people of this city are fucked," Nyxly threatened.
"Pick your targets," Kara said to the others and then immediately engaged Karina in the air. The two slammed through multiple buildings causing skyscrapers to fall upon impact.
J'onn engaged the dragon in the air. He shielded himself from the dragon's fire, went through the dragon, and took hold of his tail. J'onn then threw the dragon through a building. On the street level, Mon, Brainiac 5, Beth, and James engaged the liquid metal monster, Metallo, Red Tornado, and Parasite. James blocked Metallo's Kryptonite beam, Beth fired her pistols at Parasite, and Lena fired a spell at the liquid metal monster.
"Aquamenti," Lena said as she fired on the monster. Immediately, the water from the sewer system rose up and diluted the monster's composition to the point that it dissolved.
Sensor Girl suddenly appeared out of nowhere near Lena. "Come with me," she said gently. The two then disappeared from view.
Mon powered up to Super Insane 4 not giving a fuck if it tore apart the city. Nyxly then fired on him with her hand. Mon blocked the beam and fired back sending Nyxly to her knees. Meanwhile, Kara and Karina fought it out in a skyscraper evenly matched. Karina fired heat vision at Kara blasting her out of the building. She then fired heat vision uncontrollably inside the skyscraper causing it to collapse. Kara flew through the doomed collapsing building and punched Karina out of it.
J'onn phased through the dragon and ripped out its guts as he went by it. The dragon gushed out blood as it fell to the ground dead. James deflected a beam from Metallo with his shield. "Not in my neighborhood," he said to it and then threw his shield at Metallo's Kryptonite emitter causing it to explode on the ground. Brainiac 5 wrapped Red Tornado in cables and hacked its brain causing it to malfunction and explode next to Parasite. As Parasite tried to escape, Beth shot him through the eye.
Nyxly began to lose strength and materialized three owls at Mon. "Really?" Mon asked unimpressed and vaporized all three instantly.
Kara and Karina fought inside the Wayne Tower office. "Don't you dare," Kara said to her.
"Oh, I'm gonna," Karina threatened.
The two trashed the office as they fought hand-to-hand and then burst through the tower's helipad. The two engaged in the air creating shockwaves with each blow. Mon watched the fight amused and then teleported to Karina's position. He stabbed her in the back with a Kryptonite shard he had been given by Element Lad and took her to the ground.
Kara landed on the street next to Nyxly. "How about that?" she smiled.
Nyxly eyed the nearly destroyed city with skyscrapers blasted apart and hundreds of thousands dead. "Good job," she said sarcastically.
Kara eyed the city, her city, with a sheepish expression. "My bad, my bad," she admitted.
Nyxly's right side of her face suddenly exploded as Shrinking Violet regained full size. "That was really gross," she said covered in blood and brain matter.
"Did you get the job done?" Kara asked.
"I short-circuited her energy pathways. Are you aware that at the sub-atomic level, times goes a lot slower in there? I was in her body for a very very long time," Shrinking Violet said annoyed.
"Quit your bitching. It comes with the job," Kara said dismissively.
Nyxly got back to her feet as her head slowly reformed. "You are so fucked up, it wouldn't even be a challenge," Kara mocked Nyxly.
"Is that so?" Nyxly glared. "Let's see how you feel about it after an eternity in the Phantom Zone," she said as she summoned Lena's phantom projector into her hand.
"Don't try it," Kara warned her.
Nyxly turned the phantom projector on behind her creating a portal. Immediately, the wind picked up as it was sucked into the phantom zone. "This is where you should have gone, Kara Zor-El. You're a criminal and I'm going to give the universe justice by ridding it of you," Nyxly glared.
"Get the others out," Kara ordered Mon.
He hesitated to do so but then nodded to her. He teleported the others out of the area so that Kara and Nyxly were alone. Kara went Prime as she stood her ground against the portal. Dementors from the Phantom Zone emerged from the portal and hovered around Kara sucking all the warmth and joy out of her. "You've fallen for my trap, Kara. I have a legion of these phantoms at my disposal. They're more than enough to take care of you and your pitiful little band," Nyxly said to her.
"Tell me, Nyxly, were you born fucked up or did you have to work on it?" Kara asked her.
"I was never born. I always was and I always will be. You can't imagine what it's like to have my power. You have barely tasted what we are capable of. What have your heroics achieved? I have power over time and space. After I've imprisoned your ass, I can go back in time and kill everyone you ever loved. I can restore the All-Stone in the past and now I know exactly where they are," Nyxly smiled.
Kara increased her Prime Levels melting the pavement around her and causing the buildings to crumble and collapse. Still, the Dementors brought out every negative memory in Kara's mind forcing her to weep. "That's it. Now, you know how much of a sinner you are, Kara. How much you deserve the Phantom Zone," Nyxly sneered.
"I deserve far worse. I deserve hell and death," Kara admitted. "But I have faith and faith is enough."
"Faith in what?" Nyxly asked rhetorically.
Kara felt herself slipping towards the portal unable to resist its pull and then was cast inside it. Nyxly laughed victoriously as Kara was now gone in the Phantom Zone for all eternity. "That's what you get, bitch," Nyxly crackled.
Lena suddenly materialized to Nyxly side with her wand over her head. "Avada Kedavra!" she shouted as she fired a green beam. Nyxly seized up upon being hit, eyed Lena with a confused look, gave her last breath as she died, and then fell into the portal to the Phantom Zone. Lena then fell to the ground dead. The portal then closed. The Dementors shrieked as they went into the air. Kara suddenly materialized and fired heat vision beams at each one of them destroying them all.
Sensor Girl then appeared before Kara. "Is it done?" she asked.
"Yes," Kara nodded.
The city of Gotham suddenly phased away revealing an open field. The city, its destruction, and Kara falling into the Phantom Zone had all been an illusion by Sensor Girl. Kara quickly went over to Lena. "No, Lena, wake up," Kara said as Lena merely stared blankly with dead eyes.
The unforgivable unblockable killing curse was designed to kill the opponent and the user at the same time. It had been a last resort for Lena and she took it knowing what it would mean for her. Kara cried over her. "No, Lena, you're my best friend. God, what the fuck does that say about me?"
"I'm sorry, Supreme Leader," Sensor Girl said sadly.
Kara desperately sought any idea she could think of and then knelt down over Lena. "After everything we have been through, the betrayals, the lies, and deception, the abuse and violence, I love you, Lena," Kara said as she gave Lena a kiss on the lips sending a part of her power and spirit into her.
Lena suddenly awoke and gasped for breath. Kara backed off amazed. "Did we do it?" she asked looking around.
"You did it," Kara smiled.
A few days later, the Super-Friends and the Vindicators attended the funeral service of Esme. A picture of Esme was placed near a very large tombstone with Esme's name on it. Winn awkwardly walked up to the gathering and frowned as he saw Esme's picture. "Oh, God," he realized.
"Jesus said, 'Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these.'," the minister said over the small casket as it was lowered into the ground.
"Put the Vindicators on leave. Make sure they don't cause any trouble," Kara ordered Imra.
Imra nodded and walked off with the rest of the Vindicators. Hank walked with Alex who had a rather blank expression on her face. "I just had a chat with the President and the Secretary of National Security. They want to reconstitute the DEO and open offices around the country. You want back in?"
"Hank...I think I'm done with that life. I'm going to go in a different direction," Alex declined.
"Fair enough," Hank said understanding.
Kara overheard Alex and Hank and went over to Winn. "So, how's Argo?" she asked conversationally.
"Well, the thing about Thara is...," Winn began.
"You coming to the wedding?" James asked interrupting.
"Of course. That's why I'm here," Winn said excitedly.
"What about you? You going to make it?" Kara asked Mon.
"Uh, unfortunately, I have a lot on my plate with Vindicator crap. So...," Mon said to piss her off.
"You're going to be there," Kara ordered.
"Kara, I don't know if you realize this, but you've changed the course of the future. You've empowered humanity to be heroes. You inspire me," Mon said to her.
"Mon, I know you're playing me but you're right," Kara smiled. "You're still going."
Nia walked over to Brainiac 5 who was standing off away from the others. "The longer I stay in this time, the more it could compromise the future. All of my drones will be leaving to the future soon. It's only logical. I'm not good for you."
"Well, okay then," Nia said sadly and walked away.
At her old apartment, Kara eyed the TV. "Firefighters are in a dilemma over a cat that has gotten itself higher than they can reach. Is this cat shit out of luck?" the news anchorwoman asked.
"Not on my watch," Kara said seriously as she ripped her glasses off.
"Hold on a minute. It looks like local business leaders have come together to create a rope and pulley system to get the furball down right now," the anchorwoman said brightly.
The camera then focused on a man being pulled up to the cat. "Alright, kitty, coming to get you...oh, fuck!" he said as the rope snapped sending the man to the ground. "I think I broke my leg!" the man cried out.
Kara ignored the news and took a phone call from Cat. "Do you know who I despise, Kara? I despise people. People are not only destructive and selfish, but they're also just so stupid," Cat said wearing SCUBA gear on a beach.
"Preaching to the choir," Kara agreed.
"I'm speaking here," Cat interrupted. "Do you know fifty percent of the Coral Reefs are gone? Dead, all because of stupid human behavior. And do you want to know what's corroding the coral?"
"Not really," Kara said honestly.
"Sunscreen! And that is such a dilemma," Cat said distressed.
"Are you high?" Kara wondered.
"As we speak, there is a giant sea turtle being strangled by a large fishnet. And I must rescue her with my bare hands," Cat said passionately.
"Knock yourself out," Kara encouraged.
Kara rolled her eyes as Cat spoke Spanish to her divemaster. "Ricardo is my favorite divemaster. I've been trying to learn Spanish from him but it's not going very well," Cat said sadly.
"I wish...I wish I gave a shit," Kara said sincerely. "Where the fuck are you?"
"On the Colombian coast. I can't talk for long. I am burning up. I am wearing a wet suit. I need to get into the water," Cat said urgently.
"Is there a point to this call?" Kara wondered.
"Well, Catco was for sale so I bought it," Cat announced.
"Why in God's name would you do that?" Kara asked.
"Everything became clear. With the Daily Planet, I couldn't talk shit the way I could at Catco. So, you and I are going to report on the essentials," Cat said.
"So...finding out who is dating who and outing gay celebrities?" Kara guessed.
"You're to be my new editor and chief," Cat announced. "The contract is in your inbox. I'll be home in two weeks."
"This is by far the worst decision you have ever made in your life," Kara told her.
"Adios, I got to go," Cat said hurriedly and hung up.
Kara stared off into space in her apartment alone. "Everything was so clear but now...," she considered.
Alex entered the apartment and noticed all the flowers for the wedding. "Hey, sorry I'm late. The caterer broke her arms so they had to find a replacement at the last minute."
"You don't have to do that. I can take care of it," Kara offered.
"Kara, the flowers aren't ready? The wedding is in the morning, tomorrow morning," Alex said alarmed.
"I got super-speed. They'll be done," Kara said dismissively.
"So, what's going on?" Alex asked concernedly.
"Cat Grant called me. She bought Catco back from Andrea and she offered me the job of editor-in-chief," Kara revealed.
"That's like your dream job. I'm so excited for you," Alex said subdued.
"I'm not taking it," Kara said.
"Why not?" Alex asked.
"I'll have Karina take it. Cat won't even know the difference," Kara said.
"What's really going on with you?" Alex asked seriously.
"I'm going back to the future," Kara said.
"But you haven't persuaded me to go with you," Alex pointed out.
"I know," Kara nodded. "I'm leaving you behind...probably for the rest of your lifetime. You know, I justified all the hell I put you through on the premise that only I could protect you. Well, now Karina can protect you without all of my baggage. My place is in the future running a federation of planets against evil empires and warlords. Your place is here."
"You don't need anyone to protect me, Kara. I'm getting out of the superhero business. I'm finishing med school. I'm going to save lives at a hospital instead of the battlefield. You don't have to worry about me ever again. All the drama between us was due to me getting myself into dangerous situations. Now, we can be real sisters," Alex said.
"It's too late. I've caused you too much pain and suffering. It wasn't the villains. It was me. I'm the villain of your story. We're not good for each other in times of war and peace. It's time I stopped hurting you," Kara said.
"You're hurting me now," Alex said tearfully. "Whenever there has been a big crossroad, you have always chosen the wrong path. This is no exception. I don't how I'm going to manage without you."
"You'll find a way," Kara said confidently.
"Well...can we, at least, work on these flower arrangements together?" Alex asked wiping away her tears.
"Yeah, we can do that," Kara nodded wiping away her tears as well.
At the wedding, the Super-Friends and the Vindicators, all wearing proper attire, were present. A large number of politicians, community leaders, and military veterans were present. Kara wore a simple blue dress and a Dutch crown braid. She greeted Eliza and noticed Jeremiah wasn't present. "Where's Jeremiah?" Kara asked alarmed.
"He's been missing for a while," Eliza said concernedly.
"I'll bring him back," Kara assured him.
"He's always gone on one of his missions. He's so restless," Elisa shook her head dismayed.
"I really wanted him to be here," Kara said disappointedly.
"Well, you know how he feels about the Luthors," Elisa said.
Kara noticed Lex next to an older blond woman wearing a white suit. Due to a facial mask, no one could tell it was Lillian. "I wish I could shoot her with my shotgun," Eliza said dangerously.
"After the wedding," Kara smiled.
Alex walked up to Kara and Eliza wearing a white suit and an obnoxious hairstyle. "Wow, Alex, you're looking quite gay today," Kara smirked.
"Kara, be nice," Eliza scolded her. "You look...nice," she said politely to Alex.
"Thanks, mom," Alex rolled her eyes.
"I know I've made mistakes as a mother but who could blame me?" Eliza said.
"This girl isn't," Kara pointed to herself.
"I'm so proud of you," Eliza said giving Alex a hug.
"Oh, fuck me, right?" Kara asked dismayed.
"Alright, group hug," Eliza ordered.
All three of them awkwardly hugged.
In the other room, James was in a tuxedo feeling a bit nervous. Kelly came in wearing a white dress. "You look radiant," James complimented.
"Come on, don't tease," Kelly scolded.
"I'm totally serious. My baby sister has grown up to look so hawt," James said sincerely. "Alex is so lucky to have you."
"You're going to make me cry. You know how I'm allergic to bullshit," Kelly smiled.
"Dad would be proud of you," James said sincerely.
"Dad would be proud of you, too," Kelly chocked up.
"Alright, enough of that. Here's a signal watch in case you ever need me. We can have each other's backs," James said handing the watch to her.
"I love you," Kelly said appreciatively.
"I love you, too, kiddo," James smiled.
Outside, Brainiac 5 approached Nia. "I thought you were leaving," she said amazed.
"The space/time continuum? Fuck it," Brainiac 5 smiled. "I have simulated love for you, Nia. I've simulated more love for you than any other being. I've dedicated my existence to learning about people. That pursuit will be hallow without you and your access to the dream realm."
"What if us being together destroys the future?" Nia asked anxiously.
"No fate but what we make," Brainiac 5 said dismissively. "And speaking of making things," he said as he brought Maeve over.
Nia's face fell upon seeing her. "Maeve has offered to give you an egg. We can implant it in you at your convenience," Brainiac 5 said.
"Really? Who would the father be?" Nia asked amazed.
"That should remain a mystery," Nura smiled as she approached them.
On the stage, Winn and Kara sang a song together for the crowd. "It's almost like we're trained singers," Kara remarked to Winn.
"The Kryptonians have me perform every play and song for their amusement," Winn said.
The crowd clapped as Kara and Winn stole the show. Kara and Winn then took their seats in the front row. Hank took up the position of court-appointed minister for the wedding. Next to him was a nervous-looking James. The wedding music played as Lex, wearing a tuxedo, brought Lena down the aisle in a purple dress defying all conventions.
"Our father would have been proud of you," Lex said to her.
Lena nodded and approached the stage. Lex handed Lena off to James and went off to the side. Lena and James faced each other with Hank in the middle. "Wow, I'm still wondering how the fuck this happened. I can assure you I didn't read their minds. I didn't have to. It was obvious. I've known James for quite some time ever since I put Superman under surveillance. I've always known him to be smart, dutiful, resourceful, and a total badass. I have always thought of you as a brother," Hank said.
"Thanks, man," James said giving Hank a brief hug.
"Lena, when I first got to know you, I was certain you were a rotten Luthor egg. But with James being a total manwhore and you being a paranoid crazy bitch, there is balance. And that balance, at a foundational level, is love," Hank said looking at Lena. "And now, I'll let James and Lena make their case for themselves."
"James, you've been my rock and my reason and my agent of chaos. Over the last five years, I wish I could say I knew it was you. But I didn't know until recently when you found me dabble in witchcraft...you didn't try to fix me. You didn't try to change me. You were there just to hold me and that's when I knew beyond any doubt that I couldn't live another day without you," Lena said.
"So, you're going to be clingy type," James realized.
"So, I vow to be the person that will be there for you when you need me and my money. To our love, our family, our future," Lena concluded.
"For a long time, I forgot who I was. I lived an inauthentic life of womanizing and boozing. It took me a long time to unfuck myself. And I couldn't have done it without you domineering over me. You are my truth, Lena. I now have a life I never would have dreamt or thought possible five years ago. I promise to show you the love you have shown me and I promise to never cheat on you or take you for granted," James said.
"I now pronounced you husband and wife," Hank declared. "You may kiss the bride." James gave Lena a passionate kiss to a cheering crowd.
Afterward, Kara walked over to Lillian. "So...how does it feel to know your daughter married a black man?" she asked to antagonize her.
"Well...we're not related after all," Lillian pointed out.
"Fair enough," Kara smiled amused.
Winn gave James a congratulatory hug. "Wow, I remember how you used to terrify the fuck out of me with your crazy-ass Guardian missions," Winn recalled. "The endless foot chases, crawling through the glass."
"Good times," James smiled.
James, Winn, and Kara got themselves a table away from the others. "Here's a gift card to Hot Topic for forty dollars," Kara said handing James the card.
"Thanks, Kara. You're the best," James rolled his eyes.
"We really have come so far since the days when we hid away from Cat Grant in our secret computer lab," Winn remarked.
"Yeah, can you imagine if I worked at the same company, had no husband, no kids, and lived in the same apartment for six years?" Kara mocked.
"You're talking crazy, Kara. Of all of us, you've always known what you've wanted: family," James complimented.
"To family," Kara toasted with her champagne glass.
"James, get over here and dance with me," Lena ordered.
"And so it begins," James muttered.
"Do you need help out of your chair?" Kara asked.
"I might," James admitted totally wasted.
Kara and Winn helped him up and walked him over to the dance floor which was really a field. Kara then took a phone call from Cat. "Yes?"
"Are you off saving the world or something?" Cat asked.
"Well...no," Kara said flatly.
"Well, you haven't signed the contract so what other explanation could there be?" Cat asked.
"I want more money," Kara said bluntly.
"No, no, no," Cat shot down.
"You gave me a two-week deadline and it's the thirteenth day," Kara pointed out.
"Are you having an emotional crisis?" Cat asked as she got herself a vodka drink on the beach.
"It's not that," Kara denied.
"Well, what is it then? And don't think that sending me a bunch of emojis in a text message is going to cut it," Cat demanded.
"I'm at James' wedding right now so I'm not nearly sober enough to be having this kind of conversation," Kara admitted.
"Neither am I, Kara, yet we still have to hammer this out," Cat insisted.
"I feel like I've been lying to people about my true self," Kara said alarmed.
"Well, you are a total fraud," Cat chided.
"Damn," Kara realized.
"Kara, you're Supergirl. You can do whatever you want so don't be making lame-ass excuses. If you want the job it's yours," Cat said.
"Wait...you know I'm Supergirl?" Kara asked wide-eyed.
"Kara, how much have you had to drink?" Cat asked dismayed.
"I don't know. Who are these people? Why am I here? Where the fuck am I?" Kara asked going into panic mode.
"I seek to empower you to do that which you love to do which is to talk shit about the vain and the powerful. So, what's the issue?" Cat asked.
"You make a good point," Kara acknowledged.
"I always make the point. Look at what you have been able to achieve as Kara Danvers and Supergirl separately and then imagine what would happen if you revealed your identity to the world," Cat said.
"Armed terrorists would immediately attack my cliffside house with helicopters?" Kara guessed.
"You would be an authentic being," Cat argued.
"An authentic being? I'm not sure I'm ready for that," Kara admitted.
"You need to stop making excuses and decide what you're course will be," Cat lectured her. "There's important work to be done and I hope you'll join me. More than that, I hope you will become your true self because that would be really something to see because this is boring."
"Thank you, Cat. I needed to hear that," Kara frowned.
"I believe in you," Cat said sincerely. "I always have."
Kara ended her call with Cat with Mon now at her side. "We're leaving soon," she informed him.
As the wedding reception continued, Nia got the bouquet of flowers. "Looks like your next, Barney," Hank joked.
"Affirmative," Brainiac 5 replied.
Lena walked over to Kara at the table. "You missed the bouquet being thrown."
"Well, I'm already married...to two people so...," Kara said softly.
"What's wrong?" Lena sensed.
"I think I'm the strongest person on Earth...," Kara said thoughtfully.
There was a long awkward silence between them. "And?" Lena wondered.
"That's it," Kara sighed.
"What's really bothering you?" Lena asked.
"I risked your brother's life to stop Nyxly. I let you put him under an Imperius curse and he could have been killed at any point during this war. Then, I planned to have you kill Nyxly with the killing curse. I don't deserve to be here, to enjoy your friendship. My God, what have I done?" Kara asked herself.
"What you had to do. What you always do. Turn death into a fighting chance to live," Lena told her.
"I'm leaving soon. Be a good friend to Karina," Kara revealed.
Lena gave Kara a sad look. "Karina won't be nearly as easy to queerbait."
"I know," Kara said tearfully.
"You can't always be our savior, Kara. You can shine your light in any place, any time. If someone else comes, I know how to take them down," Lena said showing Kara her wand.
"You're the best friend I've ever had. You killed a fifth-dimensional being. You're my Supergirl," Kara said sincerely. "You have challenged me the most. You have made me a better person."
"Thank you, for everything," Lena said sincerely. "Well, I have to get going," she said walking away to her "Just married" car with James. The Lex Corp. car then took off into the air.
DEO Fortress
Kara met up with Imra in the time machine room. "Everyone has been accounted for," she reported.
"Thank you. I'll be there with you all shortly," Kara promised.
"This plan of yours is fucked up," Imra shook her head and then walked off.
Kara ignored her and went to her friends waiting to see her off. Karina gave Kara an awkward look. "I failed again. Why would you entrust this to me?" she asked.
"I trust you because you're me and I trust you because of my friends. If you need help, don't hesitate to ask for it," Kara advised. She then turned to the rest of the group.
"These last six years have been an adventure. Some might say, the Adventures of Supergirl," Kara smiled.
"Full of yourself as always," Hank smiled. "I'll see you on the other side."
"I know I will," Kara said confidently despite the thousand-year time gap.
Alex gave Kara a tearful expression. "The future is your home, your life. Just...remember me."
"I will," Kara said giving her a hug and crying over her shoulder.
Kara then let go of Alex and gave all of her friends present: Hank, James, Winn, Lena, Brainiac 5, Nia, Lex, and Kelly a goodbye wave. "Goodbye," she said finally and left with Mon to the time machine.
Brainiac 5 slowly activated the machine. Kara nodded to Karina and then the two of them were gone.
Gotham
Karina came before a podium to answer questions about the Nyxly battle in Gotham and why Supergirl had crashed into Wayne Tower's lobby the other day. "Uh...it's been a while since I've been in front of you, so I took the cards this time," Karina said nervously as she flipped through some notecards. The reporters chuckled amusedly.
"There's been speculation that I am somehow involved with Supergirl and her recent actions in this city," Karina began.
"Do you really expect us to believe Supergirl crashing into Wayne Tower was a coincidence?" one reporter asked bluntly.
"Holy shit," Karina said stunned by the sudden question. "I know it sounds confusing...a bit outlandish possibly."
"Are you, Kara Wayne, a superhero?" one reporter asked bluntly.
"I don't see myself as the superhero type, you know, with my long list of character defects and mistakes that are largely known already to the public," Karina babbled.
Brainiac 5 gave her a word of encouragement by whispering in her ear to stick to the script. "The truth is...I am Supergirl," Karina smiled and then dropped the mic.
End of Season 6
Author's Notes: I have a lot of thoughts on the finale and the series as a whole. Some of those thoughts are obvious in my chapters but I am willing to discuss the good, bad, and the ugly via PM or email. Suffice to say, this series was never meant for me or my particular demographic. I have always enjoyed this particular comic book hero as having both Superman's powers, Kryptonian culture, and female perspective. I saw so much potential to explore comic book lore, politics, and philosophy, psychology, literature, and culture with this character. On one hand, I am sad that the series is over but I also feel totally free to continue AOS without the constraints of the CW SG narratives. If I haven't managed to offend your particular group or demographic, make sure to let me know so I can get to you. It's been a pleasure to watch and write this train wreck for these last few years.
*AOB will continue until its Season 3 finale and The Batman movie.
*Assuming the Flash Crossover has sufficient enough scenes of Alex and Batwoman and it's not total crap those will be done here.
