DEO Fortress
Winn and James entered the DEO all smiles. "Look at this place," he said amazed by all the tech.
"Where's Superman?" Alex asked.
"Oh, he's here but he had to make sure his mother was taken care of. Priorities, you know," Winn excused.
"His mother is dead," Alex told him.
"Damn, he's going to be upset he missed that," Winn winced.
"Look, most of the Justice League have already been killed. Getting these rings is our only hope," Alex said super-serious.
"Whatever it takes," James said resolved.
J'onn then phased through the DEO and collapsed on the floor severely wounded. "J'onn!" M'gann shouted as she went over to him. "I was the only one that survived," he said weakly.
M'gann immediately transferred some of her life energy into J'onn to heal him. "You must leave quickly," Brainiac 5 informed the teams.
"What if we don't get back in time?" Lena asked pessimistically.
"The rally point will be a base on Titan," Brainiac 5 replied.
Alarm bells off as Supergirl approached Metropolis. "I'll slow her down," Billy volunteered.
"Do what you have to do," Alex told him.
From the DEO shuttle bay, several ships took off to distant worlds to retrieve the lantern rings.
Metropolis
While the anti-life equation was downloading, Supergirl made her way to Metropolis and was intercepted by Shazam. He punched her hard to the face and then grabbed a hold of her head. "Someone is controlling you," he figured. "Tell me how to stop them."
"Billy," Supergirl rolled her eyes.
"Let her go, let her go," Shazam said to her.
"Stop, you're embarrassing yourself," Supergirl said as she threw Shazam off of her. "It's me, Billy. It's just me."
"Wait...what?" Shazam asked confused.
"It's time to make Earth ready to join Darkseid's empire," Supergirl told him.
Billy began to cry filled with confusion, rage, and hurt. "Billy, this is good news. We can finally do what we were meant to do. Be who we are meant to be," Supergirl told him.
"You lied to me," Shazam said offended.
"You couldn't know the truth, not until you got your powers. Not until I was sure," Supergirl said.
"Sure of what?" Shazam asked.
"That you would join me in the slaughter of this world and the exploitation of its resources," Supergirl said.
"So, if I wasn't, I'd be one more human for you to conquer?" Shazam asked incredulously.
"I know that wasn't supposed to be sexual, but...," Supergirl snickered.
"No, this doesn't make any sense. You love this planet. You love your friends. I know you do," Shazam said to her.
"With Darkseid, I can be practically immortal. Do you have any idea what that means? It means friends and family will be gone in a blink of an eye. I'll live forever or, at least, thousands of years. Everyone we know and love will be gone. Join me and I can give you that same immortality," Supergirl enticed. "All we have to do is welcome Earth into Darkseid's empire. This is the only way."
"This is insane! Do you think I'm going to kill and enslave my friends and family for a bunch of aliens I've never met? These are my people," Shazam told her off.
"We have a responsibility to Darkseid," Supergirl told him.
"I don't give a shit about Darkseid or if I live a million years. This is my home and I won't let you destroy it," Shazam said adamantly.
"I can't let you interfere," Supergirl said dangerously.
"So be it," Shazam said defiantly.
Supergirl punched him and then backhanded him to the ground before he could react. Supergirl landed near the crater she had just made. "Do you really think you can stop me?" she asked rhetorically.
Shazam got up, spun around, and punched at Supergirl as hard as he could. Supergirl cupped his fist like it were nothing, twisted his wrist, took him by the throat, lifted him off the ground, took him by the ankle, slammed him to the ground, and then threw him miles away.
At the DOD, Gen. Lane saw Supergirl flying in the air with a surveillance drone. "Map their trajectory. I want to know where they're going before they get there," he ordered.
"We have them, Sir. They're slowing down twenty miles from Metropolis," a lieutenant informed him.
"Scramble our jets," Gen. Lane ordered.
"Sir, what could they do?" the lieutenant wondered.
"Not much but at least they're a distraction. Maybe it will give the kid a chance to think of something," Gen. Lane said somberly.
Shazam stabilized himself in the air only to get hit hard by Supergirl. The two tussled in the air. "Don't do this. It's not too late," he said to her.
"Yes, it is," Supergirl told him off.
Supergirl hit Shazam several times in a row in the air in a one-sided fight. Fighter jets arrived on the scene and circled them. "Look what they need just to mimic a fraction of our power," she mocked. "It's right to pity them, Billy, but it's wrong to value them over Darkseid."
Supergirl cast Shazam away where he tumbled in the air a bit before slamming into the ground. Fighter jets saw the opening and fired several dozen missiles at her. "Direct hit on Supergirl, " the squadron leader reported.
Supergirl targeted one of the jets punching through it. The pilot ejected but his parachute wouldn't open. Shazam met him in the air and safely dropped him to the ground. "Ah, man. Thank you, Shazam. I didn't think I was going to make it," the pilot said gratefully.
Supergirl landed right behind him. "So much effort...for what?" she asked rhetorically as she punched his head apart in front of Shazam. Blood and brain matter splattered on Shazam's face and uniform. "Now, where was the other one?"
Supergirl lifted off and went towards the second jet. In response, the second jet fired missiles at her without result. Supergirl was about to blast the jet out of the sky when Shazam intercepted her. "You killed him!" Shazam accused.
"What difference does it make?" Supergirl said dismissively as she punched him away.
"What difference? He had a life," Shazam said incredulously.
"Did seeing that man lose his life...disturb you? Did it hurt? Well...let's see how you handle this," Supergirl said as she punched Shazam right into Metropolis. He hit a few buildings and then hit the streets hard, throwing cars and people in all directions. Shazam finally stopped himself after a few hundred people had been crushed by cars and debris. He was bleeding from his nose and forehead. Looking around, he saw dead and wounded in the streets. The building he had just been punched through was on the verge of collapsing. Shazam flew up and pushed on the building to stop it from moving. Civilians rushed to get out of the building but it was too late. Despite Shazam's best efforts, the building collapsed killing anyone still inside.
Gen. Lane watched the destruction from his drone camera. "Well...shit," he realized.
Shazam threw debris off of him and realized an arm he was holding had detached from someone's dead body. "Oh, fuck," he realized dropping it. Supergirl then flew above him and looked around giving a whistle at the destruction.
"How could you do this?" Shazam asked accusingly.
"Punching you through a city was...super-easy, barely an inconvenience," she smirked. "Join Darkseid with me. You know, in your heart, I'm right."
"Right...about how pointless and pathetic humanity is?" Shazam asked rhetorically.
"Yeah," Supergirl confirmed. "In the grand scheme of things, none of these lives matter. Everyone is already dead. It's just a matter of time."
"How can you say those things?" Shazam asked and then punched Supergirl hard to the face several times in a row. Supergirl caught his arm and punched him deep into the ground.
The two fell into the subway system creating an explosion that killed dozens instantly. Supergirl kept Shazam's face in the dirt as she knelt over him. "I need to save them," Shazam said desperately.
"Maybe this time you'll learn," Supergirl said as she pulled him up by his hair and turned him towards an incoming subway train. The subway train couldn't stop in time and hit them both. The two of them went through the train blasting apart human bodies as they did. Shazam put his hands up to shield his face as body parts, limbs, and organs hit him as they went through the entire train. The train finally buckled killing more people as it derailed.
"These people are meaningless," Supergirl said to him as the smoke cleared.
Shazam was in a state of shock with blood and gore all over his uniform. "Good thing your uniform is red, right?" Supergirl joked and then casually crushed a human survivor under debris.
"I've seen you save people. I've seen you almost die to protect them. Maybe you were a Kryptonian when you came to Earth, but you've changed. You were happy here," Shazam beseeched her.
"Sure, I was happy...for a time. But I'm loyal to Darkseid, not this pathetic excuse for a civilization," Supergirl said pointing out the subway wreckage.
Shazam went for a punch and missed completely. Supergirl slammed him to the ground and then punched him through the ceiling to the street level and into the air. "Let go of me," Shazam protested.
"You don't know me, Billy. I will burn this world down before I spend another minute living with these animals," Supergirl told him.
Shazam punched her to the face with everything he had without effect. "Please," Supergirl rolled her eyes and proceeded to beat the shit out of him in the air. The clouds were torn open as Shazam was being punched around.
"I should have prepared you better, Billy. Taught you more. Your life has been soft and painless. Well, your true education begins now," Supergirl told him and then punched him through a cruise ship and to the bottom of the Atlantic Ocean. Supergirl then pulled Shazam out of the water. "Now, we got all that blood and guts off you," she said and then punched him back into the city.
US fighter jets arrived on the scene and fired missiles at Supergirl with no effect as they impacted. As Supergirl was about to turn on them, Shazam distracted her. The two hit at the fist creating a massive shockwave that blasted out windows. Supergirl and Shazam fought evenly in the air with punches and kicks until finally, Shazam slammed Supergirl into the ground. Supergirl blasted Shazam off of her with her heat vision and got back to her feet.
"Radiation levels are spiking. She's powering up," the lieutenant informed Gen. Lane.
Supergirl slammed Shazam through a skyscraper demolishing it on impact. Thousands were instantly killed from the collapse of the building and the falling debris that followed. Supergirl and Shazam repeatedly slammed into each other in the air until they both hit the ground. Army soldiers retreated away as they were nearly overwhelmed by the impact. Supergirl punched Shazam through several buildings until he landed in a power plant. Taking the energy from the cables, Shazam brought himself to maximum. In a scream, Shazam lit up the sky with lightning flashes that lit up the darkened city.
Supergirl tensed up as she realized what she had done. "I got this," Shazam said, confident in himself.
Shazam appeared next to Supergirl in a flash of lightning and punched her high into the air. The two fought in the air as they got higher in the stormy clouds. Flashes of lightning were all around them feeding Shazam power. Shazam then punched Supergirl hard towards the ground. Supergirl glowed red from the air resistance and slammed into the ground toppling buildings as she did. Shazam didn't let up as he slammed down on Supergirl and tried to zap her energy away from her.
"Prime," Supergirl said finally.
Shazam was suddenly blasted off of her as Supergirl multiplied her power level 25x. Supergirl then focused as she went Prime 2 giving her another 25x boost. Her body glowed intensely like the sun. Nearby buildings melted around her and the street pavement turned to black goo. Any human close to her was lit on fire and turned to ash. As she flew towards Shazam, the city around her melted into super-hot red liquid metal. Fires roared everywhere just for being near her. Now that she was 625x more powerful than before, Shazam was uncertain how to approach her.
"Had enough yet?" Supergirl asked.
"I'll stop you," Shazam said determinedly.
"I'm ready when you are," Supergirl said confidently.
Supergirl let loose a solar flare that annihilated most of the city and severely burned Shazam. The solar flare bubble dissipated as it reached the outer limits of Metropolis. A hurt Shazam fired his most powerful lightning attack on Supergirl. In response, Supergirl let loose another solar flare destroying anything that was left of the city. Shazam was on the ground burned and bloody.
"Your power is bullshit," Shazam coughed.
"You're doing this for nothing. Being part of the empire will make Earth better than it ever was," Supergirl told him.
"I won't let you," Shazam said weakly.
"I've been thinking," Supergirl said as she powered down. "When life gives you lemons, don't make lemonade. Take the lemons back! Get mad! You don't want some damn lemons! What are you supposed to do with these? You need to demand to see life's manager. Make life rue the day it gave Billy Batson lemons!"
"The fuck?" Shazam gasped.
Supergirl placed her boot on his chest and crushed his heart. In his death throw, Shazam released all of his energy into a lightning storm that went into space. When the dust settled, Supergirl remained unphased.
Qward
James and Winn made their way around the capital of Qward hoping not to be noticed. "Alright, here's the deal. I'm going to send this TASER device up their ass and then you take the ring," James said to Winn.
"Oh, God!" Winn said as they were nearly spotted by Yellow Lanterns on patrol.
The two cover behind stone pillars. "I can't do this, man. I shouldn't have come. This is a bad idea," Winn said freaked out.
"Dude, it's just the air. I feel it, too," James admitted.
"I think I'm about to have a panic attack. I should not have left Argo," Winn said anxiously.
"Come here," James said to him.
As Winn got closer, James slapped him on the cheek to snap him out of it. "You think you're the only one pissing their pants right now? If we don't find a way to stop Kara, we're all fucked. That means Earth and Argo. We owe it to Thara and Kelly not to let them down," James told him.
"Okay," Winn said nodded tearfully.
"Are you crying?" James asked incredulously.
Winn shook his head. "Yes," he admitted finally. "I think I'm losing it."
"Get it together, dude," James scolded him. "We can do this. You can do this."
"Yes, I can. I can do this. I can't do this," Winn said running off.
"God damn it," James frowned as Winn was out of sight.
Winn ran down the halls only to confront a Yautja warrior wearing a yellow power ring. Immediately, the Yautja extended his spear upon seeing him. "Oh, fuck me," Winn realized.
Before the Yautja could slice Winn through, James intervened with his Guardian shield. The Yautja and James fought for a moment as the Yautja merely toyed with James. Eventually, the Yautja blasted James to the floor with his ring. Advancing on Winn, the Yautja formed an alien construct from his ring. The alien had a serpent-like body with arms and legs. The yellow beast snarled at Winn and opened its jaws revealing a second pair of mandibles.
"It's not real, Winn," James told him.
"It looks pretty damn real to me, man," Winn said as the construct alien snapped at him.
The Yautja continued to torment Winn enjoying his fear. Finally, Winn closed his eyes and accepted his fate whether it be life or death. The Yautja gave a disgusted look as he tried to get Winn to scream like a girl or piss his pants. When nothing worked, he formed Winn's greatest fear: Supergirl. The yellow Supergirl's eyes glowed as if to incinerate him.
"You know what? I don't care anymore. Do it," Winn said getting back to his feet.
Just before the Supergirl construct was about to vaporize Winn on the spot, James rammed his Guardian shield into the Yautja's gut. The Yautja shrieked in pain as James went deeper. The Yautja bled out green and fell to the floor dead. "Get the ring," Winn said urgently.
Before he could do that, the yellow ring took off and fell into the hands of another Yellow Lantern: Arkillo. "Why do you want this ring so much?" he asked them. He was a giant monster creature with a huge jaw.
"We're here to stop Supergirl," James told him.
"The bitch that helped to destroy Sinestro? I'll gladly help you," Arkillo said handing them back the ring. "Now, get the fuck off my planet."
Fortress of Solitude
Supergirl pointed at her ruined computer monitor and fired a white beam. Immediately, the computer monitor's screen became repaired to what it was before. "Completely forgot I had that ability," she said pleased.
The download bar was complete. Supergirl eyed the anti-life equation mesmerized by its design. "It's so beautiful. Wait...what the fuck is it?" she wondered as it didn't seem to have any recognizable numbers.
"Have you finished the conquest?" Desaad asked expectedly.
"Not...yet," Supergirl admitted.
"Then why do you summon me?" Desaad asked irritably.
"I bring news. Before Darkseid came to this throne, he searched the universe for the ultimate weapon: the anti-life equation. The key to controlling all life and all will throughout the universe. He found it on this primitive world thousands of years ago and got his ass kicked by primitives," Supergirl said.
"The story of the defiance is well known," Desaad said impatiently.
"I have found the anti-life equation. It is on Earth. It's in my memory banks now," Supergirl said victoriously.
"Are you certain?" Desaad doubted.
"I have seen it with my own eyes," Supergirl confirmed.
Desaad appeared to have some kind of sexual ecstasy at the idea of finding the anti-life equation. "You okay?" Supergirl wondered.
Darkseid then appeared in Desaad's place. Supergirl didn't even bother to bow. "Oh, Supergirl. Could it be true you've found it?" he asked.
"That is what I said," Supergirl said annoyed.
"Scorch this world and then I will come for my great prize," Darkseid ordered.
"You're coming here?" Supergirl asked curiously.
"I have turned 100,000 worlds to dust looking for anti-life. I will bask in the glow of anti-life and all of existence will be mine," he said confidently.
"In return for a seat at your side, you wanted me to scorch the Earth. But now that I know the anti-life equation is here, I wonder what use I have for you?" Supergirl asked arrogantly.
"Girl, I would reconsider your current course," Darkseid warned.
Desaad appeared at Darkseid's side in the hologram. "You cannot dare to defy Darkseid. He is the most powerful being in the universe," he graveled.
"Not anymore," Supergirl smirked. "You call me girl! I will take control of all life in the universe...and then, I'm coming for you," she threatened.
The hologram of Darkseid and Desaad faded from view. Supergirl was now on her own mission.
Smallville
Clark Kent visited Martha's grave completely dismayed. Lana Lane walked over to him and noticed his demeanor. "So, you're back. The way you're looking, it's like you're here for the first time."
Clark took a second to process that. "Did I embarrass myself at the funeral?"
"No, you were perfect as always, subdued but hopeful. You didn't let it get you down," Lana recalled referring to Mon's impersonation.
"Thanks for being there for me during my darkest days," Clark said sincerely.
"You not staying?" Lana asked surprised.
"No, I have something I have to do," Clark said resolved.
"Whatever it is, your mother and father will be with you to see it through," Lana told him.
"I know," Clark said giving her a hug.
Nok
Jeremiah and Eliza lowered down a tank-like vehicle from their spaceship to get through the hostile jungle environment of Nok. "Reminds me of Nam," Jeremiah muttered as he kicked a weird alien frog away from him.
"Can we hurry this up? Time is of the essence, chop, chop," Alex pressed.
"That's not very helpful, sweetie," Eliza scolded.
Once they were done unloading, Alex gave her parents a hug. "Don't mess around. Once you got it, come back to Earth," Eliza told Alex as they hugged.
"Watch each other's six," Jeremiah said to them both.
Alex and Kelly entered the ship leaving Jeremiah and Eliza behind as they took off to Nekron. "Long way from Metropolis," Kelly smiled as their ship went lightspeed.
Jeremiah and Eliza were about to enter their tree-busting tank when a tribe of primitives surrounded them and pointed spears at them. Iroque emerged from the group of warriors. She was tanned skinned, had black dreadlock hair, and had a slender physique. "We...come...in...peace," Eliza said condescendingly.
Iroque scanned their minds with her indigo ring to understand their language. "You seek the ring of compassion. Are you blood-thirsty savages in need of redemption?" she asked.
"No, we need the ring to save our world. In the name of compassion, we beg you to help us," Eliza pleaded.
"Your plight moves me but we cannot allow our ring to be placed in the wrong hands. You must have compassion within you," Iroque said to them. She scanned Jeremiah's memories of killing and destruction but then saw his peaceful retirement as he had given up his violent ways. She saw his sincerely held beliefs and recited a verse for the benefit of the others.
"For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in, I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me. Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me." Iroque recited.
"Just words," one of the tribal men said skeptically.
"But good words, nonetheless. Who is this Jesus?" Iroque asked of them.
"He's like...our God," Eliza said flatly.
"You raised a troubled Kryptonian youth in your home as if she were your own. Indeed, there is no greater compassion and patience than raising Kara Zor-El," Iroque remarked.
"I know, right?" Eliza agreed.
"You have proven yourself worthy to have one of our rings," Iroque said, bestowing the ring to them.
Metropolis
In the ruins of Metropolis, Clark entered the Kryptonian crashed ship and was presented with several uniforms. As he contemplated them, he heard encouraging voices in his head. "The House of El's symbol means hope. You are that embodiment. Within that hope is the fundamental belief that every person can be a force for good. You will give the people of Earth something to strive towards. They will stumble, they will fall, but they will join you into the sun, Kal. Together, you will accomplish wonders. All the hopes and dreams of Krypton live in you. Your mother and I loved you. Your heart has been tested, but you gave hope to their world. Love them, Kal, as we have loved you, " Jor-El's voice said to him.
"You were sent here for a reason, and you owe it yourself to find out what that reason was. You're going to have to make a choice, the choice to stand proud in front of the human race or not. I am so proud of you son. Your mother and I knew you would change the world. I know it's been hard. You need to show them who you are. It's alright, son. It's time," Jonathon Kent's voice said.
Clark emerged from the ship as Superman wearing a black-and-silver version of it, a suit appropriate for mourning and loss. Looking around at the ruined city and knowing all of his friends and co-workers were dead, he bent down low where the dust started to float off his hands and then shot up into the sky. In space, he got himself a quick power-boost from the sun and then flew towards Supergirl's location in the Pacific.
Okaara
Lex and Lena made their way to the planet Okaara in the Vega system. The planet looked dead and lifeless on the surface. "There's an energy signature below the surface," Lena pointed out on the computer.
The ship went to the radiation spot and landed. Lex and Lena put on protective suits as they walked about the cratered surface. They eventually came to a hole in the ground leading to an underground palace constructed of pure gold. They were immediately ambushed by a dozen alien guards. "They're not real," Lex noted.
"They're just constructs," Lena realized, seeing their glowing orange bodies.
"We seek an audience with Larfleeze. We have a business proposition," Lex said boldly.
The guards brought them to Larfleeze's throne, also made of pure gold. The creature was humanoid with the face of a dragon. He wore an orange lantern suit and at his side was a small orange lantern battery. "This place must be worth a fortune," Lena said amazed.
"This is but a small percentage of my great wealth," Larfleeze said to them. "You come here unarmed and without an army. What is it that you seek?" Larfleeze asked them.
"We seek an orange lantern ring," Lena told him.
Larfleeze chuckled at that. "There is only one orange lantern ring: mine. And do you know why that is?"
"You're greedy as fuck," Lena surmised.
"Exactly," Larfleeze smiled.
"Surely, someone as great and as powerful as you has a spare that could be loaned out for a period of time. What good is wealth if it isn't liquid?" Lex asked.
"For what purpose?" Larfleeze asked curiously.
"A rogue Kryptonian has unleashed war on our planet. We seek to purchase peace," Lena said.
"And how much are you willing to pay for peace?" Larfleeze quizzed.
"As much as it takes," Lena said confused by the question.
"Wrong!" Larfleeze mocked.
Lex rolled his eyes at Lena. "The Earth's GDP is $80 trillion a year and the total wealth of the planet's economy is $360 trillion. This is the collateral we offer."
"A pitiful amount," Larfleeze sneered.
"We only need it for a day," Lena beseeched him.
"You will give me everything you have as my fee. One hundred billion dollars between the both of you is a small price to pay," Larfleeze demanded.
"Deal," Lex and Lena said quickly.
Larfleeze created an orange table before them and orange pens. In front of them was a large stack of orange papers to be signed. "You can sign them all quickly or take the time to read them all. The choice is yours," Larfleeze said menacingly.
Lex and Lena looked over the large stack. "Well...shit," they realized they had no choice.
Los Angeles
The US Navy fleet was on high alert to protect and support Los Angeles from a Supergirl attack. Alarm bells went off on several ships as they detected a radiation signature approaching them at fast speed. Supergirl surfed the water moving directly towards the fleet. The destroyers and cruisers fired shells and missiles at her as she approached. Supergirl went underwater as the shells and missiles hit the water creating explosions as they impacted. Supergirl came up and tore a cruiser in half with her body creating massive explosions as the cruiser's ammunition holdings exploded all at once. The ship quickly sank into the ocean.
Several F-35 fighters launched from the aircraft carrier and went after Supergirl. They fired several missiles at her, all direct hits. Annoyed, Supergirl tore through one of the fighters. The entire fleet fired on Supergirl non-stop with everything they had. The air was full of missiles, shells, and machine-gun fire. The fighters launched all of their missiles at her and then tried to intercept her directly. A pilot ejected at the last moment as his fighter slammed into Supergirl. Despite the onslaught, Supergirl appeared unaffected. She targeted two destroyers and blasted them apart with her heat vision beams. Supergirl then dragged the bow of one destroyer down to the bottom of the ocean in a vindictive move to drown any survivors still inside the ship.
Supergirl moved towards one of the aircraft carriers underwater and pushed it over with her strength. The aircraft carrier capsized, lost its remaining fighters, and began to sink. Supergirl remained underneath the aircraft carrier using it as a human shield as the sailors scrambled to make their way to the hull, now the roof. To her surprise, the aircraft carrier started to rotate again and was now back in the right position. Supergirl flew up and landed on the aircraft carrier's deck only to find herself facing Superman.
The two Kryptonians faced each other on the aircraft carrier deck as the world watched.
