Earth 1
Kara Zor-El sped towards a dark mansion in the middle of the night. Upon arriving at the gate, she went through the laser perimeter system that prevented non-Kryptonians from entering. She hurried into the mansion's lobby and went up the stairs to the second-floor dining room. There, she found a full table of Kryptonians dressed in black robes over their Kryptonian uniforms that prominently showed their house crest. Kara was no exception wearing a long black coat with a silver House of El crest underneath. The Kryptonians eyed her lateness with some amusement.
Kara stood at attention before seating herself. "Kara, I was beginning to wonder if you had lost your way," Zod said gently with condescending amusement in his tone. "Come, we saved you a seat."
Kara sat down at the table a respectable closeness to Zod, himself, who was at the head. In attencdance were all of the surviving Kryptonians: Zod, Faora, Astra, Non, Jax, Tor-An, Car-Vex, Dev-Em II, and Nadira. Also in attendance were Non and Astra's son, Don, a young teenager, and Krypto resting near the fireplace. The issue to be discussed this meeting was that of Kal-El and what to do with him.
"You bring news, I trust," Zod asked expectantly.
"It will happen Saturday at nightfall," Kara replied.
"I heard differently, My Lord. My intelligence indicates it won't be until the 30th of this month," Dev-Em said smugly.
"This is false. I should know," Kara said slightly annoyed at being disputed.
"What say you, Jax?" Zod asked on the other side of the table.
"One hears many things, My Lord. Whether the truth is among them is not clear," Jax evaded.
"That sounds like bullshit," Zod doubted. "Where will the boy be?" Zod asked Kara.
"His location has been encrypted. Once he has reached a sufficient level, it will be impractical to attack him," Kara informed him.
"My Lord, I'd like to volunteer myself for this task," Faora said eagerly. "I want to kill the boy."
"As inspiring as your bloodlust is, subcommander, I must be the one to kill Kal-El," Zod refused her. "But I face a most unfortunate complication. I can wound him, but I cannot fatally harm him. If I am to kill him, I will need another crystal."
Zod took out his Kryptonian crystal and put it on the table. No one said anything to the request. "Come now, surely one of you would like the honor. What about you, Non?" Zod asked as he hovered behind him.
"My Lord?" Non squeaked.
"My Lord?" Zod mocked. "I require your crystal."
Non reluctantly handed it over to him. "Do I detect zink?" Zod asked as he scanned the crystal with his eyes.
"Yes, My Lord," Non said nervously.
"And the core?" Zod asked.
"Silicon," Non answered.
"Silicon," Zod said as if disgusted by that. Zod turned his attention to Kara. "As of the present, Kara has been working in the field of bio-engineering. It is her belief that humans are not so different than us. She would, given her way, have us mate with them."
The table was generally hostile to this with immature chuckling with a few sticking out their tongues in disgust. "To her, the mixture of Kryptonian and human blood is not an abomination," Zod said and then sat down in his chair. "But something to be encouraged."
"It's all in my dissertation. I have nothing else to say on the matter," Kara said defensively as the table mocked her.
Zod smiled. "It's all in good fun, Kara. Come this Saturday, with this new operating system...," Zod said referring to Non's crystal. "I will finally kill Kal-El in World of Warcraft."
"I wish you the best of luck, My Lord," Kara rolled her eyes knowing he had zero chance against the boy.
Adventures of Flash
"What is like walking to get coffee when you can run 4,000 miles an hour?" Alex asked as the two walked down the streets of National City.
"When I was on Krypton, I walked at the same speed as you. I feel just as normal as you except during the rare occurrences when I have to draw on my powers," Kara said.
"Is Lex joining us?" Alex asked curiously.
"No, he's going on an Eat, Pray, Love tour through Italy, India, and Indonesia exclusively in that order," Kara said.
"You can eat, pray, and love in all three of those countries in any order," Alex said confused.
"That's what I told him," Kara shook her head. "Lex has been gone for most of the summer and fall."
"Do you miss him?" Alex asked concernedly.
"I only decide to miss someone if I wish to. So...no," Kara said bluntly.
"Very romantic," Alex rolled her eyes.
Kara and Alex entered Noonan's and got themselves a cup of coffee. "As for me, I have the opposite problem. Max is always wanting me to go out with him," Alex said.
"Is that a problem?" Kara asked.
"Well, no, maybe," Alex said flustered. "I know he's attracted to me, but I don't know if I feel the same way. I've had so many failed relationships with men. Maybe it's the universe trying to tell me something."
"You're not dating a man, you're dating Maxwell Lord," Kara said simply. "When I first arrived here, I didn't have any attraction to humans. I still don't, but I was attracted to Lex as a person. Just remember that you're in a relationship with a person, not a species or a gender."
"Yeah," Alex nodded. "Still, all Max talks about is his trains. I am so sick of hearing about the mechanical engineering behind a bullet train."
Kara paused as she listened to two trains about to collide. She casually sent a text message and then went back to her coffee. The news suddenly did an update on two trains colliding with the Flash rescuing all the passengers. "Max is going to be so upset over this," Alex cringed.
"It is a setback," Kara said dryly. "I suggest you give him some space."
Kara and Alex entered the DEO together and met with Director Hank Henshaw and a platoon of his leadership. "Captain Kramer has made the ill-advised decision to sack her meta-human task force. To compensate, we will be opening an office in Central City. I have selected you to make it happen," Hank ordered.
Alex sighed in annoyance. "What did Captain Kramer think would happen? That the meta-human problem would just go away? She's only doing it because she found out she was a meta, herself."
"One must remove themselves from the equation when making a decision," Kara agreed without commenting further.
"So, you happy about being stationed somewhere else?" Alex asked.
"The commute time will be the same," Kara replied.
Central City
While Alex and the rest of the DEO worked to get the office ready, Kara ventured to the Central City Science Center. There, she eyed children playing with virtual reality, a new type of telescope, and gift bags being handed out. "Here's a gift bag," someone handed to Kara.
"I don't need it," Kara said dismissively.
"But it's free," the woman said confused.
Kara simply shook her head and walked on. Looking around, she scanned through the walls and noticed Iris talking to Allegra about CCC Media. With her super-hearing, she listened in on their conversation. Kara focused on Allegra noticing a different physiology with her X-ray vision. Kara continued to walk around the tech fair until she noticed Barry with Chester. Not long afterward, Kara noticed Ray Palmer talking with Barry. Coming closer, Kara simply stared at Ray and listened to his voice.
Kara blended into the crowd as Ray was interviewed by Iris on his future goals. Suddenly, Superman crashed through the ceiling and onto the stage. He wore a black and silver suit but looked the same. "I would run if I were you," Superman said menacingly.
"Superman?" Ray wondered.
The crowd fled to the exists as Superman's eyes glowed red. Kara stood off to the side wondering what to make of this. "Flash, don't make this difficult. Show yourself," Superman ordered.
Flash immediately appeared in front of him. "I'm not going to let you hurt anyone. Why don't you tell me what it is you want?"
"I intend to kill you, Flash," Superman said bluntly.
"If you're looking for a fight, you found one," Barry said boldly.
"No one stays good for long," Superman said as he glared at him.
"I'm picking up some serious radiation readings," Chester said of Superman.
"You just happened to have that in your back pocket?" Iris asked incredulously.
"No, there's one over there behind me," Chester said obviously.
"Oh, right, tech-con," Iris realized.
"I think Barry is going to need a helping hand," Ray judged as Flash spun around Superman in continuous loops with nothing to show for it.
Kara eyed Ray as he ran to get his Atom suit and then focused back on Superman and the Flash. Superman suddenly punched the floor hard. The shockwave blasted Flash out of the science center's window and onto the ground a distance away. Superman flew out of the science center and landed next to Barry. "Trapping me in a vacuum was pointless. I can live in space. Now, surrender, and I'll make this painless."
Atom suddenly appeared as his suit returned to normal size. "Wow, the suit still fits. Hey, have you been working out?" he asked Flash.
"Yes, thank you for noticing," Flash said as he gave Atom a fist bump. "Are you ready?"
"Yeah," Atom confirmed.
The two powered up and fired on Superman going right through his illusion image. "Hey, who are you firing at?" Iris asked.
"He's right behind you," Chester said helpfully.
Flash and Atom turned around as a taxi cab was thrown at them. Atom shrank himself and Flash down, went through the car and out its window, and then materialized back to normal size in an entirely unnecessary move. "Thanks, man, but I could have moved us both out of the way in a split second," Flash said as he felt like he was about to hurl.
"This isn't your fight, Atom. Leave, while you still can," Superman told him.
"He has a weakness," Atom reminded Flash.
"I'll keep him occupied," Flash said as he formed an after-image of himself. The two Flash versions sped around Superman as before. The two Flash versions then went for a punch at the same time.
Superman scanned both versions and saw the true one with his X-ray vision. He punched the real Barry away devastating him."You can't fool me with an after-image, Flash. I can see everything," Superman said.
"Wait, you said I was good once. What happened to me? You owe me that," Flash requested as he stalled for time.
"Ten years from now, you created an Armageddon, one that destroys this world. It already happened, Flash. That's why I have to kill you," Superman said to him. "It's how I save our world."
Atom suddenly materialized in front of Superman and blasted him with a Kryptonite blaster. Superman was immediately weakened and backed away. Atom kept it up blasting Superman back a few steps until Superman was forced to retreat into the air. "Thanks, man. I thought I was a goner," Flash said gratefully.
"Anytime," Atom smiled.
Iris and Chester ran over to Flash "You okay?" Chester asked.
"Yeah," Flash said shaken up.
"Where did he go?" Irish asked.
"I don't know," Atom admitted.
Team Flash met up at STAR Labs. "Barry, you know you're not destined to destroy the world, right?" Ray asked him.
"I don't know. I kind of fucked up the timeline before. What's to say I don't do it again?" Barry wondered. "Superman is from Earth-38. Yet, he said 'our world'," Barry considered.
"What does that mean?" Cecil asked confused.
"What if he's just mind-fucking you?" Chester asked.
"In any case, everyone is in danger now...again," Barry said.
"No, there's no way you're the bad guy in this situation," Cecil objected.
"That's not really what I said, but I'll take it," Barry said subdued.
"What we need to do now is find out the truth," Cecil said obviously.
"I have a bad feeling the truth is going to find us," Barry said.
"Yeah, I don't have an unlimited supply of that Kryptonite," Ray admitted. "Once I'm out, we're totally fucked."
"Unless we contact the DEO. I'll call Director Henshaw in National City," Caitlin volunteered.
"So, what do we do?" Cecil asked feeling useless.
"He took our best shots like it was nothing," Ray remarked.
"I've seen Kryptonians in action. We'll need to be ready," Barry said.
"For what?" Chester asked totally clueless.
"The fight of our lives. Try to keep up," Barry said annoyed.
At the new DEO office, Alex set up the bio-lab. "You don't have to do that. I can set everything up in a minute," Kara told her.
"Well, I like to keep busy. What's on your mind?" Alex asked as Kara appeared subdued.
"Kal-El fought the Flash and Atom at the Science Center," Kara said.
"My God, why?" Alex asked stunned.
"It wasn't the same Kal-El. He was ten years older, from a different time," Kara said. "He said the Flash was responsible for this world's destruction."
"How's that possible? Flash is no match for you or your...friends," Alex said referring to the other Kryptonians.
"I don't know," Kara admitted.
"I know Kal. He's the most gentle, responsible, generous boy, I've ever known. He must have a good reason," Alex said.
"I must investigate all sides of this without revealing our presence to humanity," Kara said thoughtfully.
At STAR Labs, Ray walked with Barry and Chester down a hall leading to the exit. "Are you sure you don't need me around? We just got our asses handed to us," Ray said. "Nora can handle any emergency and Superman could come back at any moment."
"It's okay. I'm actually feeling incredibly stupid and suicidal, right now," Barry told him.
"Well, if he comes back, I may return. No promises," Ray said.
"Well, okay then," Barry allowed.
"Chester, what you did back there in Jitters was a huge mistake. You really fucked up. You've upset my balance," Ray chewed him out.
"I'll be damned," Chester said horrified.
"I was about to fund a non-profit for your jitter science friends but not anymore. Your father would be ashamed of you," Ray continued.
"Armageddon can't come soon enough," Chester said totally destroyed.
"Oh, and Barry, there's one way to know for sure you'll never destroy the world," Ray said as he entered the elevator.
"What? Kill myself?" Barry asked.
Ray gave him a confirming smile and pointed at him as the elevator doors closed.
Smallville
Kara entered a humble house next to a barn on a farm. Kal was at the dinner table working on his homework. Kara glanced at it and shook her head at how easy it was. "How was work?" Kal asked.
"I'm working in Central City now," Kara said.
"What's it like?" Kal asked curiously.
"Like any other American city," Kara shrugged. She then sat down at the table across from him. "I saw you fighting the Flash."
"What?" Kal asked confused.
"You were older, from a different time. You said Flash had destroyed the world. Do you know anything about this?" Kara asked.
"No," Kal said honestly.
"I want you to stay away from Central City for a while," Kara ordered.
"I wasn't going to but now that you've told me it's forbidden, I think I will," Kal smiled.
Kara merely stared at him. "It was just a joke," Kal backtracked.
"I know," Kara said softly. "For me, I have to deliberately show my emotions for humans to know how I feel. Know that even if I don't show it on my face or in my voice, I always love you and I find you amusing at times."
"Okay," Kal said.
"Hurry up and finish so I can give you your real homework," Kara ordered.
Kal sighed and went back to work. Kara eyed him amazed at how he would look ten years later.
Central City
At STAR Labs, Chester sounded the alarms. "Barry, we got an alien signal coming in hot."
"Are you sure about this?" Iris doubted.
"Nowadays, I'm not sure about anything," Chester admitted.
"The only way to convince Superman I'm not a threat is to show him who I really am," Barry said naively.
Superman then crashed through STAR Labs and landed right next to Barry. "You ready to die?" Superman asked.
"Every life ends sooner or later so fuck it," Barry said resigned to his fate.
"Wise words," Superman allowed.
"Superman, I'm not going to fight you again," Barry told him. "You want to kill me, I'm not running anywhere."
"We could have fought side-by-side. There is great strength in you, Flash. But I've you seen your future, the lies you take, the betrayals you revel in. You're the most dangerous kind of killer because you hide in the body of a hero," Superman said as he circled him.
"I'm not a killer," Barry denied. "Except for Sand Demon and Atom Smasher but those don't really count. Look, I'm not who you think I am. I can prove it to you if you let me show you the truth. Or you can take an innocent life just to prove you're right."
"You're very stupid or very brave. I can't decide which," Superman said as he stared into Barry's soul.
"See for yourself, then decide," Barry challenged.
"I don't sense deception from you. From what I was told of you, you were always a man of truth and honor. But you're asking me to risk allowing a future I have already seen unfold again. The needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few or the one," Superman said.
"What credit does it bring a man if he gains the whole world and loses his soul? You can't do this. I sense the good in you, the conflict," Barry said.
"I'm sorry. There are too many lives at stake," Superman said to him. "This is why I came back. This is the purpose I swore to uphold."
"What if you're wrong about me?" Barry asked. "I've spent my entire life protecting this world. All I'm asking for is a chance to prove I'd never turn my back on it," Barry said.
"Why should I believe you?" Superman asked as his eyes turned red.
"Because I'm Barry Allen and I have nothing to hide," Barry said simply.
"Kal-El, spare his life," Kara's voice spoke to him so faint that only Superman could hear it. Superman recognized the voice of his cousin, his mother. In the moment, he shed a tear.
"Your boldness impresses me, Flash. You have seven days to prove to me that you won't become the monster I've already witnessed in the future. If you can't convince me in that time, or if I find any trace of a darker nature, I'll kill you," Superman allowed.
"Fair enough," Barry agreed.
Author's Notes: With Kara deciding not to go with Mon to the future, there's no CW answer for why she isn't involved in this fight but Alex is. This going to make less and less sense as Flash battles villains throughout Season 8. Despero may be one of my favorite CW villians if he keeps this up. He's powerful and trash-talking Barry the entire time. Still, I wanted to replace him with Superman to create an emotional connection with Kara-1 and Kal-1, potentially get a new series going here, and Despero was a villain I already did in the Hank bonus episode in AOS Season 3. A lot of details were left out on purpose to give a sense of mystery as to what's going on with Kara, Kal, and the other Kryptonians.
