Chapter 34: A dream.
When her phone alarm started ringing, the first thing that came to Nami's mind was her wedding that was going to happen in this new day. She couldn't help smiling because of the happiness that this incredible unforeseen event made her feel, her heart was in danger of exploding so much it was throbbing with joy and her spirit lit up after being submerged in darkness. Fortunately she had managed to sleep last night thanks to the sleeping pill otherwise she would not have been able to sleep a wink because of the uncontrollable emotions that invaded her whole being. She trembled just thinking she was going to get married. It was crazy but she was going to do it.
Nami yawned as she waited for the fog of sleep to dissipate, her head felt heavy and her eyesight completely blurry, which is why she rubbed her eyes in hopes of clearing it up. It was unfortunately an undesirable effect of the drug she took to sleep and she had to endure it every day, but this time she was not going to linger in bed because she had a reason to leave it without wasting time in her morning ritual. An unexpected big day awaited her.
Nami stretched her arms until her joints made a cracking noise, and then she sat up before sliding to the side of the bed. Taking a deep breath before slowly exhaling the air from her lungs, the redhead thought she had to get ready despite not knowing what to do in reality. It was hilarious waking up on her wedding day not knowing what dress she was going to wear and where the ceremony was going to be.
her mind still couldn't believe what she was going through, that's why she didn't dwell on thinking and increasing her headache because of it. She dragged herself out of bed towards the bathroom because taking a shower was a paramount thing to revive her still sleepy mind.
An hour later Nami came out of the bathroom with a steamy body and pinkish colored skin. Her temperature was high from the hot shower she had just taken.
She was greeted by her sister who was apparently waiting outside her door.
"Finally you decided to go out, I was about to piss on myself." Nojiko screamed as she pushed Nami out of her way to enter the bathroom.
"You just had to knock and I would let you in." Nami blinked as the door slammed shut, almost smashing her face if she wasn't a millimeter away from it.
"I knocked; it's you who are deaf." The old sister growled from the other side of the door.
Nami hissed through her teeth and decided not to argue because she was somehow at fault, mumbling curses as she walked to her room. The redhead thought it was more urgent to get dressed instead of bickering with her sister as usual for some stupid reason. She put on the first thing she saw when she opened her wardrobe, a black half-sleeve dress that went down to below her knees.
Then she rushed to the kitchen because her stomach was telling her that she needed some breakfast.
"You want some coffee?" Nojiko asked as she poured herself a cup.
"Yeah," Nami replied with a nod, looking at the table filled with food in amazement. "Wow, you have prepared a hearty breakfast!" She added while she sat across from her sister.
"Apparently it's your wedding day, so I wanted to do something special for you." Nojiko explained, giving the redhead a hesitant look, signaling that she was holding herself back from saying what was on her mind.
"Go ahead, spit it out." Nami sighed as she felt she wasn't going to enjoy the conversation she was going to have with the other woman.
"I am against this marriage story," Nojiko began before leaning on the table. "I've never seen such a short engagement period, damn it he proposed to you last night," Her tone worsened at her last statement and the expression on her face became more serious. "He's part of the mafia, plus he's a gang leader, you haven't even discussed your future, do you plan to go back to Raftel with him or will he come and live here with you?"
"I don't care, all I want right now is to be with him, I don't want to think about anything else," Nami shrugged trying to keep her cool not to show the fear that had awakened within her. She didn't want to go back to Raftel and she knew that Law wouldn't leave it, this problem was enough to make her change her mind about marriage, but despite that, she was going to do it because she was at least going to be happy even for a short time. "I'm going to marry Law today." She insisted emphatically.
"Are you sure?" Nojiko asked looking her sister in the eye. "You know very well that it's a dream that when it ends, you're going to be devastated like the last days, I don't want to see you suffer anymore."
"Even if it will be a short lived dream, I will not regret having lived it," Nami took a sip of her coffee. "Stop being pessimistic, you'll jinx me."
"I'm just saying what I think of this whole story." Nojiko apparently didn't want to give up on the argument.
"So stop thinking." Nami groaned before starting to fill her mouth with food to signal the end of the discussion.
Breakfast passed in silence despite the unstable tension that invaded the area. From time to time the two women scowled each time they met their gaze. The younger sister knew that her older sister wanted her to be well, but Nami was determined to get married. It was true that she had spent her life making bad choices and this time it could end in disaster as usual, but she was sure that she was going to regret it very much if she did not marry Law.
As soon as she finished eating, Nami fled to her room to avoid having another argument with her sister. She didn't want to spoil her good mood by listening to Nojiko's lecture because she was already having a hard time stifling the doubt that was arising in her mind. She wasn't so stupid that she didn't think about the negative side of her current situation, but she wasn't going to let that change her mind because she was determined to finally be with Law and give their relationship a chance. She was tired of denying her feelings and the connection that relayed her to him, she was going to accept her destiny and above all live the day by stopping to think too much.
It was around ten o'clock in the morning when Shachi, Ikkaku and Lamy landed at Nami's house. The moment she heard someone knock, the redhead felt her heart skip a beat and she ran for the door to open it.
"Nami!" The three guests exclaimed in unison, a broad smile invading the face of each of them.
"Guys!" Nami rejoiced in return, wrapping her arms around all three at the same time. "Come in." She added after releasing them.
"Wow, the tangerine field is gorgeous." Lamy commented as she followed the red-haired woman.
"It's really nice to live in a place like this," Ikkaku said while looking inside the old house. "It's peaceful."
"It's better than the creepy hospital where you live." Nami stuck out her tongue in mockery.
"I agree on this point." Ikkaku's facial expression turned sad after hearing the bitter truth.
"Our home is not so terrible." Shachi contradicted them as he sat down on one of the armchairs, while the three women settled on the sofa.
"So," Ikkaku coughed, smiling again as she glared at the redhead slyly. "We have a wedding to prepare, we will not waste our time talking about our HQ."
"I would like you to tell me what Law has planned because I don't know anything," Nami said with a bored tone. "He just told me that we're getting married today, that's all," She took on a thoughtful expression. "I'm really crazy that I accepted his bizarre proposal."
"Don't worry, he has everything ready," Lamy tried to reassure her by putting her hand on her shoulder. "He decided to do a traditional ceremony in a church and a small party between us in the hotel where we are staying."
"He planned the whole thing ignoring my opinion," Nami rolled her eyes at feeling sidelined in her own marriage. "I don't even know what I'm going to wear!" She moaned with a dramatic tone.
"The dress is in the car, I will…" Shachi stopped speaking when his eyes saw a blue haired beauty walking towards them. The scene unfolded in slow motion in the eyes of the man because he was as if hypnotized.
"This is my sister Nojiko," Nami spoke when she noticed why Shachi was silent. She was internally laughing because of the man's reaction to her sister. "She is Lamy, Law's sister," She continued the introductions by pointing to the woman sitting on her right. "Ikkaku and Shachi, my old comrades in the Heart gang." She added, waving at them.
"Nice to meet you." Nojiko nodded with a smile that Nami recognized as forced. She had noticed that the color of her sister's face faded when she heard gang Heart.
"Are you all hot in your family?" Ikkaku asked after greeting Nojiko with a nod.
"Apparently," Nami replied proudly before looking at Shachi who was still staring at her sister. "It's not the time to flirt, let's get my dress." She ordered as she stood up.
Shachi jumped when he heard the redhead's statement and his face turned red because he was caught in the act. As soon as Nojiko looked at him with an arched eyebrow, he rushed behind Nami as she headed for the car without waiting.
"Damn Law," Nami spat when she got to the vehicle. "He didn't even give me the chance to choose my own wedding dress, I hope it's not awful."
"I'm sure you'll like it," Shachi reassured her as he opened the trunk of the car. "Ikkaku and Lamy chose it personally with Law of course."
"Shachi." She called him softly to get his attention.
"What's the matter?" He asked as he gently pulled the cover out so as not to wrinkle the dress inside. "Is there a problem?" He turned to her with lightning speed when she was slow to speak.
"How?" She started before pausing to clear her throat. "How did Law make the decision to marry me?" Nami whispered her question in a barely audible voice, feeling a hint of doubt flood her heart. She had tried her best to remain optimistic in front of others, but with Shachi she was more comfortable talking about all things because he was kind of her best friend.
"I don't really know," He replied with a worried frown. "I'm sure he couldn't stand the separation anymore, he had totally changed since you left, he was always in a bad mood." He said, remembering.
"I'm scared," She trembled involuntarily. "I dread what will happen to us after this marriage and I don't even dare ask him what his plans are for our future because I have the feeling that I will be disappointed."
"Be sure of one thing, he loves you more than anything," He cheered her up by reminding her of Law's feelings for her. "Even I can't believe Law fell in love, you are truly an exceptional woman."
"It's the only thing that reassures me," She rejoiced as a soft smile lit up her face. "Did I tell you how he declared his love to me?"
"No." He shook his head from left to right, looking at her with curious eyes.
"The surgeon of death made me a breathtaking declaration of love, a poem came straight out of his dark heart." She pointed proudly.
"So, is there a romantic side to Law?"
"But he screwed it all up in his cold marriage proposal." She hissed, remembering the night before.
"Hey you two, you're gonna be spending all day there." Ikkaku's voice thundered from within, which is why, Nami and Shachi rushed to the house as they knew the remark was meant for them.
The first thing Nami did when she got inside was to open the slipcover covering her wedding dress. She couldn't hold her curiosity any longer because it was a matter of life and death for her, if she doesn't like it, she will have to go buy another one.
Nami was satisfied when her eyes examined the white colored dress. It was flowing and flared in style. The bustier was covered with guipure lace while the satin skirt fell to the feet. The neckline was in the shape of a heart which will make Nami's generous breasts even more attractive. The veil that accompanied the dress was simple and short, befitting the elegance of the outfit. As accessories, Law sent her a set of natural white pearls.
"Ah!" A loud moan escaped Nami's mouth as she continued examining her dress. "Damn!"
"You don't like it?" Lamy asked with a hint of fear and disappointment in her voice.
"I find it beautiful," Nojiko commented with a surprised expression on her face. "I didn't expect it to be this good."
"I like it too much," Nami pointed out as she continued to admire the dress. "But I'm afraid that I can't wear it, I feel the size is a little small."
"So go try it and stop bothering us." Nojiko growled at her annoying little sister.
"Okay," Nami nodded frantically before picking up the dress. "Come help me girls."
As Nami predicted, the dress was a little tight especially around the chest, but the upside is that the girls managed to zip the zipper up so she managed to fit in, even if breathing had become difficult for the redhead and her chest was a little too exposed, it was the price she was forced to pay to live the greatest day of her life. Nami thought she might make an effort to wear the dress to the wedding because it was too beautiful.
"I never thought that one day I would see you like this," Nojiko looked at her sister with emotion. "You are more beautiful than a princess."
"And this pair of breasts," Ikkaku put her hands on Nami's breasts making her jump. "Poor Law is going to spend his wedding with a pain between his legs."
"I hope so," Nami's facial expression turns evil. "I intend to make him pounce all night because I've been wanting him for months."
"I don't want to hear that." Lamy plugged her ears with her fingers as her face turned red like a tomato.
"Me neither." Nojiko rolled her eyes.
"Haven't done it yet?" Ikkaku asked in amazement, ignoring the other two women.
"Unfortunately not," Nami replied before groaning. "Once, we were in the middle of a preliminary but we didn't take action because I found out that he was on a mission to kill me." She told it frankly.
"I don't want to hear that." Lamy kept repeating like a mantra.
"A real toxic relationship." Nojiko mumbled between her teeth.
"How have you been able to bear the urge so far?" Ikkaku continued her interrogation, still ignoring the two protesting women.
"I don't know about him, but for my part masturbation helped me a lot." Nami shrugged, speaking shamelessly.
"I'm your sister, I don't feel very comfortable hearing you talk about your sex life." Nojiko remarked.
"And I'm Law's sister, I don't want to know anything about his sex life." Lamy remarked in turn.
"Don't forget birth control, it's going to be your party tonight." Ikkaku smiled while winking at Nami.
"I'm on my safe day, so I don't fear anything normally," The redhead replied by winking back at Ikkaku. "But I hope he will bring condoms with him because I don't have time to go buy," She turned to her sister who glared at her. "Do you have condoms?"
"Kiss my ass." Nojiko swore as she raised her middle finger in the air.
"How am I going to do my hair?" Nami wondered as she once again looked at herself in the mirror. She preferred to ignore her big sister's obscene gesture and change the subject so as not to irritate her even more.
"I think loose hairstyle will look good on you." Ikkaku proposed after a moment of thought.
"I agree, your hair is too beautiful, it would be a waste to tie it up." Lamy nodded in agreement.
"So I'll keep my hair loose." Nami agreed as she imagined in her mind what she's going to look like when she's finally ready.
