Ch 4 A Wolf Named Robyn
Later that night, Robyn had gone to bed after day in the scullery. She kept get getting distracted by thinking of those wolfwalkers, still finding it shocking that they exist.
She climbed up the loft where she slept. Her father, Bill Goodfellow, slept below her. Merlyn was put in his cage for the night.
She grabbed her wrist that had the bite mark on it and sighed. "They are real. Right, Merlyn?" She said, looking at her bird. Merlyn chirped loudly twice as a response. She looked over at the window, lost in thought.
Robyn laid on her roll up bed, trying to sleep, but something was stopping her. Her bite mark started to glow gold.
She dreamed of running through the woods, a gold stream leading her to something. It led to a wolf, turning to her.
When she woke up, she saw that everything had turned blue. "Huh?" She said, standing up. She could could see all the scents around her, including her bird.
"Merlyn, can you smell that?" She asked, looking over the loft. She looked over at her bird, seeing his scent also. "Merlyn, What's happened to ya? I can see your scent," Robyn said in shock.
She thought it was weird she was seeing this, but when she looked in the window, she gasped. She was a wolfwalker.
"Oh no, Oh no, Oh no!" She said in a panic, looking down at her paws, lifting each up. She looked at her human body, which was asleep.
While she was talking, Goodfellow heard her barking from the loft, which woke him up. "What do I do? How did this happen? Oh, no!" Robyn exclaimed, not realizing her father was awake.
Goodfellow climbed the ladder to where Robyn was sleeping, seeing Robyn's wolf body stand over her human body. Robyn was a grey wolf with the same colored eyes.. Robyn looked over at her father, who shouted, "Wolf!"
"Father! Father!" Robyn cried, walking over to him. To him, she was barking. Goodfellow fell from the loft. He got up quickly and grabbed his crossbow, loading it.
"No, no, no, father! It's me! Father!" She shouted, dodging the arrow that Goodfellow fired. Robyn needed to get out of there and find Feza and Mebh.
She whimpered and went to the window, opening it with her nose, escaping by jumping out. Goodfellow immediately up the ladder just as Robyn jumped out.
She jumped from one roof to another, almost falling off in the process. She made it to the ground, trying to avoid being seen by the soldiers, managing to slip out undetected.
Meanwhile with Mebh and Feza, the walked through the forest in their wolf forms. "Feza, I don't know if Robyn's coming back," Mebh said, sitting in front of the den entrance, dropping her wolf ears.
Feza gave her sister a nuzzle, raising her black wolf ears. "Don't worry, Mebh. She'll return. Something tells me she will," Feza assured. Before Mebh could reply, Robyn accidentally crashes into the two wolfwalkers, making them roll into the den.
Feza pinned Robyn to the ground and growled, baring her fangs at her. Mebh growled too. "Mebh! Feza!" Robyn exclaimed.
The two wolves stop growling at her instantly and their eyes widen. "Robyn?! It can't be!" Feza said, getting off her. Robyn stood up, backing away from them.
"Somethings happened to me!" Robyn said fearfully. "Yeah, we can see that," Feza said, howling softly as she walked around Robyn, looking her over.
"I thought Feza fixed your bite. We thought you'd be fine!" Mebh exclaimed, sitting down, dropping her ears. "Mebh, your mammy's gonna kill you," Feza said worriedly, her ears dropped.
"Well, my father will kill me," Robyn said, raising a paw. The pack start sniffing Robyn, making her turn around with a glare.
"Hey. Guys, give her room!" Feza scolded, making the pack leave her alone. "Now that we see you like this, it's flipping great! I thought we were the last ones," Mebh laughed, placing her front paws on Robyn before dropping down and walking around her.
Robyn dropped her wolf ears and glared at them. "It's great?! I'm a wolfwalker!" She spat angrily. Mebh sat down but her tail wagged. "Oh, we know! Mammy said this would be bad, like, never to bite anyone, but I love it!" Mebh said excitedly, jumping to her paws.
Feza wagged her tail and playfully pawed at Robyn. "I agree with her, Robyn. You look good as a wolf," she said, getting Robyn to blush.
"It is bad! I'll get killed like this. What about me body?" Robyn asked, raising her slender ears. Mebh and Feza trot to their sleeping human bodies. Mebh perched her front half on hers.
"It's asleep. Nice and cozy," Mebh said, jumping down from her human body. "Look, when you sleep, you become a wolf. When you wake up, you're a girl," Feza said, trotting to Robyn.
"But the soldiers… And me father," Robyn said worriedly. "Don't worry about that. Learn how to be a wolf first. C'mon," Mebh said, running to the entrance of the den. Feza trotted behind her sister.
"Robyn, how can you enjoy being a human? Being a wolf's way better. You can run with us in the night," Feza said, jumping out of the den and into the forest.
The three wolves walk outside of the den. Mebh turns around, on paw in the air. "Can ya smell me?" Mebh asked, wagging her tail. "Of course, everybody can," Robyn chuckled, smiling at them.
"Well, close your eyes, Robyn," Feza says, wagging her black-tipped tail. Robyn does what she's asked. "There, you don't need your eyes to see," Feza added.
"And you can hear everything that moves around you. Your paws can hear through the earth," Mebh said. Robyn lifted her ears to listen around her, seeing that they were right.
Robyn opens her eyes and faces the sisters. "Now that you have four legs now, you can run much faster and jump really high!" Feza laughed, running up a tree before doing a back flip onto the ground.
Feza and Mebh take off in a gallop side by side. "Hey, wait for me!" Robyn laughed happily, running after Mebh and Feza.
"Keep your nose down! Trust your new body and be a wolf!" Feza called, looking over her shoulder for a moment.
Robyn sped up her pace so she could jump up a tree. Feza and Mebh were right below her, so they looked up. Robyn jumped down on top of them and continued to run.
The girls all smile at one another, bumping each other. The pack soon follows them to the entrance. After it started to rain, the wolfwalkers and the pack ran through the field outside of the forest. They're
They all exit the forest. "You're letting them out?" Robyn asked. "Yep, the forest is ours at night," Mebh said, raising her tail. Feza lifts a paw, looking back at Robyn.
"Wait til you see it for yourself!" Feza laughed, turning and running after Mebh, the pack following behind.
Robyn caught up until they were all running side by side. They couldn't feel more free just being wolves.
They soon come to a cliff, causing Robyn to skid on her paws to slow down while whining. Feza and Mebh had successfully leaped over the two cliffs with the pack.
They watch as Robyn dropped her ears, turn around and run off for a moment. But she came back in a full gallop, leaping over the cliff, howling as she landed on the other wolfwalkers.
They run through the water, then through water puddles, splashing it on one another. It started to rain, exciting them even more. They run through the field that was outside of the forest before stopping at a cliff and howling at the moon.
The three wolfwalkers run to the edge of town, under a large tree. "Well townie. This is as far as we go," Feza said, wagging her tail.
"The woods are getting smaller each day," Robyn said. "Oh we know, we can try and scare the them off," Mebh said with a playful growl,"They just don't get it,"
The group jump up a branch. Robyn looked ahead, seeing the scents of different people from the town. "How about that? A lot of smelly people down there," Mebh laughed, poking Robyn with a paw.
"Hey, I'm down there," Robyn said, poking back. Feza leaned against her and closed her eyes. "All them fast asleep, snoring away," she said, loudly snoring. Mebh and Robyn laughed at this.
They look down at the town in silence. Feza's tail hung down behind her along with Mebh's. "I'm scared, you guys," Robyn admitted.
"We are too, Robyn. The town is no place for a wolf," Feza said, dropping her ears a little bit. "If they dont catch me, then they'll shoot me," Robyn sighed, looking at the sisters, "Mebh, Feza, your mother. Do you think they might've-"
"No! Nobody can catch our mammy," Mebh shouted, looking away with her eyes shut and ears dropped. Robyn's eyes dropped and she glanced away.
"Sorry. How long has she been gone?" Robyn asked. Mebh opened her eyes, looking upset for a minute. "Since…" Mebh started and looked at Robyn with an unsure smile, "She's alright. She'll be back soon. She promised,"
"She even put me in charge of my sister and the pack until she returns," Feza says, looking down with her ears down a little bit. Robyn saw the pain in the sisters' eyes and nuzzled them.
"Don't worry. Wherever she is, we'll find her. I can help you guys," she said. The three wolves stand up and raise their tails. "Yeah, there's three of us now!" Mebh exclaimed, wagging her tail.
"I'll sneak out and meet you guys here," Robyn said. "We'llbe waiting for ya, again!" Mebh said. "Don't worry, we'll find her. Then you can all leave and be safe," Robyn said with a smile.
"You promise, Robyn?" Feza asked. "I promise," she said with a smile. Robyn leaped down and ran back to the town. Mebh turned and looked at Feza, noticing that she didn't move.
"Ya coming, Feza?" She asked. Feza raised her wolf ears and looked at her sister. "Yeah, I'll be along in a minute," Feza said. Mebh trusted her sister and took off towards the pack. Feza waited until Mebh was gone completely before jumping down from the branch, running towards the town, something she swore she'd never do; especially in her wolf form.
