Andrea Davenport did not like dogs, never had, never would.
She could tolerate them for a few minutes, but other than that she did not care for the creatures in the slightest.
So why she had agreed to make a video about the opening of a new café dedicated to the flea bitten creatures was only because of the hits that would follow.
Right now, she was sitting next to a woman who was in her forties, wearing a dress that was covered in little cute cartoon dogs, Andrea swore her skin had a tint of green to it.
This was Ms. Crothers.
"So, What made you want to open a dog café." said Andrea sweetly.
"Oh Well," said Mrs Crothers in a voice that was trying hard to be quirky. "I just happen to love dogs so much that I want to share it with the world."
Andrea smiled and took another look around the café, it looked fine, she had been to better and worse cafés in her life, the only thing that separated it from others was almost everything was dog related.
Dog themed chair, Dog theme glasses, Dog pictures everywhere, Everywhere was something dog related.
"Yes, you're definitely sharing it," said Andrea, cringing inside.
"Well, I should mention that these dogs are being taken care of, they used to be on the streets before they came here."
Andrea nodded, she knew how to play the charity line, personally as much as she disliked them she didn't like the idea of dogs being allowed to suffer.
"Ahhh, that's so sweet, So how many dogs have you saved?"
"Around twenty, but we're always willing to help more."
"Great," said Andrea, the views from this were going to be good.
That's when something shot out of a door, a small black dog burst rushed past Andrea and started to make its way to the café entrance.
Ms Crothers sat up and dashed towards the door, reaching for the dog, she picked him up and started to walk back to Andrea.
"Sorry about that, "said Crothers nervously, "Some of our pups just can't wait to see people."
Andrea took one good look at the dog, it was shaking in her arms, it eyes were wide, it was looking all around the room.
Andrea didn't know much about dogs, but it seemed scared.
"Is that dog okay?"
Hmm," said Ms Crothers." Oh yes, he's find just excited, the rest of the dogs are down there sleeping."
Andrea looked at her, and then shrugged who was she to care, it was just a few stupid dogs, she stood up, it was time to leave.
"Well Ms Crothers, I think I've got enough for the interview, I'll come back on opening day to get some footage for the opening, and I'll post on the day."
Ms Crothers smiled, "Oh, thank you dear, You've done a good job of helping a small business."
Andrea laughed, "Oh that, just me doing my best to try and enhappilfy Brighton."
"Oh, using your adorable catchphrase."
Andrea swallowed, "Yeah, that's me."
She still felt bad about that, people had started to associate that word with her, she would have been fine with it, but after Molly had saved her a few months ago she felt guilty about taking that claim to fame from her.
Waving goodbye to Ms. Crothers she started to make her way down the street, There was another reason she had agreed to come a do this interview, It was near Doug's hot dog stand.
Doug had been selling hot dogs for years, and the number of toppings he could put on a single hot dog made most people blush.
The dogs were greasy, and Doug himself seemed like he had never showered in his life.
By all rights, Andrea should have found Doug and hot dogs disgusting.
And yet, whenever she was near his stand, she beelined towards it.
Arriving at the stand, Andrea saw a very Sweaty man who wore a shirt without any sleeves, Grease burns marked his arms, he was wearing a chief hat and an apron.
"Andrea, Good to see ya." boomed Doug.
"Hey, Doug, the usual" said Andrea happily.
"Gotcha, the Davenport special."
The Davenport special was a hot dog that basically contained everything under the sun, Onions, Mustard, Peppers, Cheese, Ketchup, Olives, Chili and hot sauce, It was her father's favorite and also hers.
Handing over the money and a sizeable tip, Andrea took her hot dog and walked away.
She took a sniff of the hot dog and smiled, this was going to be perfect.
All of a sudden, she felt something bumping into her leg.
She looked down to see a small disgusting dog running around her legs, its fur was a dirty yellow, it had a small nose, one short ear and another which looked like it had been savaged, it had short legs, as for it's breed she couldn't tell. Most likely it was a mutt.
Despite the fact that its foot was in pain, it was still fast enough to keep bothering Andrea.
She tried to step over him, but wherever she tried to step, the mutt was there, barking at her legs.
"Get away from me, you disgusting little-"
That's where she messed up, she tripped and fell to the floor.
Andrea wasn't badly hurt, but she had accidentally thrown her hot dog in the air. She watched as it started to fall, that's when the mutt jumped and grabbed it with its teeth.
The young influencer was angry now, she stood up and screamed, "GET BACK HERE, YOU STINKING MUTT."
Andrea chased after him, she wouldn't be able to eat the hot dog anymore, but she just chased him, hopefully she'd find where it was and get it off the street when she reported him to animal control.
Eventually the chase neared an alleyway, she was getting closer, Soon she'd know where it was.
Andrea didn't notice the bottle in the street or the car driving towards the bottle. So she was more than surprised when she was hit in the face with a spray of water.
"AAAAHHHH!" Screamed Andrea, she looked at the street and saw a water bottle lying there, looking behind her, she saw a car speed away, the liquid was all over her clothes, some of it just got in her mouth.
She groaned this day was not going well, she was usually luckier than this, how could this day get worse.
That's when she fell to the floor, the world changed, it was slightly grayer, she felt weighed down but something, She soon realized it was her clothes, she was smaller now, as much as she didn't want she had to get out of them, this was harder because something had happened to her hands, she was forced to wriggle out of them.
After undressing, she realized that for some reason however she felt warm like something was still on her body, she turned to a store window to see what happened to her.
Looking back at her was a dog with a look of horror on its face, it had long hair, the top of its hair it's chest and paws were blue, the rest of its fur was brown.
As Andrea turned, she saw the dog turn as well, it didn't take her long to figure out what was happening.
Somehow, the universe that had been so loving and caring to her before had transformed her into a dog.
Andrea did not take this well.
"AAAAAAAAHHHHHHHH, WHAT IS HAPPENING AAAAAHHHHHH" she howled.
She ran into an Ally way and kept howling, how was this possible, people didn't just turn into dogs, especially not those that trended well, Something was wrong with the universe, was it because she was mean to that dog earlier? She needed to handle this in a clam manner.
"OH GOD, WHY ME, WHY ME AHHHHHHH, AHHHHH" she cried calmly.
"Keep it down would you, some people are trying to eat here." said a young voice from a nearby box.
Andrea turned to the box, "Hey, I've just been turned into a dog, I'll react how I want to."
A small head poked out of the box, it was the same dog from earlier, only with the time there was hot sauce around its mouth.
"Well, sorry, Fancy fur."
Andrea's eyes widened, "YOU." she barked.
She pounced at the dog, knocking him over, she placed her two front paws on this chest, "This is your fault," she growled.
The runt looked at her terrified, "What?" he said, sounding utterly confused.
"You're the one who turned me into a dog, clearly the universe has made a mistake and made me a dog because I called you a runt, when the truth was it should be punishing you."
The runt looked up at her,"So this is how I'm going to die, being attacked by a dog with rabies." said the runt in a deadpan fashion.
"I don't have rabies, and I'm not a dog." growled Andrea angry, the idea was a little insane to her, the universe just punishing her like this, What else could it be, it's not as if a ghost had cursed her.
"Okay, listen I don't know what you're talking about but how about a deal," said the dog bargaining with her, "How about I get you something to eat?"
Andrea looked at him more angry than ever.
"You already took my hot dog, what could offer me." she growled
The runt whimpered, "Please, I know the perfect place, it's close, just give me a second."
Andrea looked down on him, in all fairness he probably wouldn't lie to her, and she needed to get something to eat.
"Fine," she barked, "But it better be good."
"Trust me, it's the best place in town for a dog to eat."
…
"No," said Andrea.
"What it's perfect, every dog loves to eat here."
Andrea looked at the sight in front of her, a knocked over garbage can in another Alleyway, this time behind a butchers.
On the floor was everything that only a dog could eat, Right now the runt was starting to chew on some grease paper.
"Seriously, you should get in on this, it's pretty great." said the runt, enjoying himself.
"I will not eat garbage." said Andrea indigently.
"Fine then, What do you want to eat then." said the Runt, annoyed at Andrea's rejection.
"A hot dog," blurted out Andrea, annoyed.
"Okay then." said the runt letting go to the paper and walking towards out the alley, follow me I know the perfect place."
"Is it another garbage can?" said Andrea annoyed.
"Not anymore it isn't."
…
Andrea looked at Doug's hot dog stand, "I don't want to alarm you, but I don't have any money for a dog."
The rust shock his head, "Just follow me."
Andrea followed him, they set just outside the window, Doug was currently reading a newspaper, so he didn't see either of the dogs.
"Just follow my lead," said the Runt, who then looked at Doug and started to whimper.
"I'm so hungry, I'm so hungry, please give me something to eat."
Andrea looked at him and then realized what he was doing, she started to copy him, Doug's head peered out of the window and looked down at them.
"Hey, It's you, my little friend, and you brought your girlfriend this time."
It took all of Andrea's will power to not vomit up at that word.
Doug vanished into his stand and came up with two sausages, he put them on the floor, "You guys go now, have some fun."
Andrea was surprised just how well that went, a part of her winced as she picked up the sausage in her teeth, soon they were back in the alley where she looked at the runt start chowing down on the sausage.
"If you can get food that easy, when, why did you attack me earlier?"
"Firstly I did not attack you I attacked a human," said the dog Smugly, "And secondly I don't want to push my luck, I only visit that human once a week."
"Andrea nodded, she looked at the sausage part of her really didn't want to eat off the floor but another part just begged her to do so, she took a bite for some reason it tasted excellent, part of her was surprised by that, in a matter of seconds she had finished the whole thing.
"That was actually pretty good." said Andrea, licking her lips.
The runt had stopped eating his own sausage and was walking towards the Alley entrance.
"Well you're welcome, Now if you don't mind me, I'm off to get a drink."
Andrea watched at the dog leave, fearing that her only chance for her to transform back into a human was getting away, she followed him.
"Wait, you can't leave me." said Andrea worried.
"What?"
"If I don't stick with you, then I won't do whatever I have to do to be transformed back into a human."
The runt looked at her like she had just said cat were good actually, he looked to the sky and shock his head.
"Okay, so it's clear that you have no idea how to survive out here, so how about this, You can stick with me to pick up some tips."
"Okay," said Andrea, pulling back her lips to smile.
…
The Dog park was mostly empty around this time, most people were on their way home, a few dogs were running about, Andrea and the runt entered the park.
"Okay, follow my lead." said the Runt.
With that he started to run into the park his tongue hanging out, Andrea followed him catching up with him in a few seconds, she noticed his foot was slowing him down a little.
Eventually they came to the small water station, basically a tap, while they couldn't turn it on there was a mostly filled bowl just underneath it.
The Runt took a drink, "That's the stuff" he said out loud.
After a few seconds, he stepped back a little, and rose his limp paw towards it, "Your turn." he said.
"Thank you," said Andrea, "Surprised you can be polite."
"Pfft, Just because I'm not domesticated doesn't mean I can have a little class."
Andrea started to like from the bowl, the water wasn't exactly fresh, but she found herself not caring that much, It had been a while since she had taken a drink, so it really didn't matter, maybe it was something about being a dog.
Her drinking was interrupted when she heard a yelp from behind her.
Turning around, she was shocked to see that the runt was being lifted by the scuff of his neck by a Bulldog.
Andrea was about to do something when a German Shepard and rottweiler stepped in front of her.
"Not so fast, Andrea" said the rottweiler.
Andrea was shocked to hear her name being said by the dog, but also was confused when she noticed that the dog's fur seemed to have pigtails, in a way she looked familiar.
"Good job gentleman and Lady," said a sinister voice from behind Andrea, It was deep and had an English accent.
Andrea turned around to see a corgi walking up to them, she looked around for the owner of the voice, "Excuse me, Where's the terrifying owner of that voice?"
"I believe that's me," said the Corgi sinisterly.
"Leave her alone, George." said the runt, trying to sound brave.
"Oh, the runt's trying to stand up to me." said the Corgi, which elicited laughter from the other dogs. "Seems you've gained a bit of loyalty, shame it comes a little too late."
"I'm sorry, who are you?" asked Andrea.
"I'm George, the bulldog is Spectre."
The bulldog nodded while still holding onto the runt with his teeth.
"The German Sheppard is Heinrich."
"Guten Tag," said Heinrich.
"And our newest member, Tammy."
"That's right Andrea, It's me, Tammy." said the
Andrea looked at her confused.
"Who?"
"You know," said the rottweiler. "Tammy, from the soft ball game?"
The former human blinked, "Umm, I don't really remember you being on our team?"
"I was human back then, and on the other team"
"Oh, I'm sorry didn't really pay attention, I just joined the team just for the cute uniforms." said Andrea a little embarrassed, "But you're a dog now, how?"
"Simple, I saw you turn into a dog when that water bottle hit out, and I realized something."
"That you need to change your ways to become human again?"
"No, That this is a dream, So I pick up the remand of the bottle and swallow the little was that remained, and suddenly I was a rottweiler,"
"You think this is a dream?" said Andrea, confused.
"Yes," said Tammy, "I mean, what other explanation is there?"
"Well, There's this is some sort of punishment for being cruel to dogs, I guess."
"Yeah, Right." said Tammy smugly, "I've always wanted to be the evil dog villain with my own gang, this has to be a dream, while else would it turn my into a vicious rottweiler, the meanest of dogs."
"Really? Because I've met a few Rottweilers, and they're mostly nice." said the Runt.
"He's not wrong," agreed Heinrich.
The dogs agreed that most rottweilers were mostly the nicest dogs they had ever met.
"Wait? That's your dream?" said Andrea, confused.
"Yeah, some girls dream of being princesses, Others dream of being superheroes, I dream of being an evil dog."
Andrea looked at her for a second wondering how to process that information, she then shock her head refusing to go down this trail of crazy any further, and faced the Corgi.
"What do you want with him," said Andrea, angry.
"Simple, this little mongrel stole something from us."
"It was a steak, and it was delicious." said the runt laughing
The corgi looked at the suspended dog with a grimace, "Spectre, shake him."
The Bulldog shock the runt about, Andrea was about to do something, but Tammy stepped in front of her.
"I wouldn't if I was you." Said Tammy sadistically.
The bulldog stopped shaking the smaller dog, "Are you okay?" said Andrea, worried about her new friend.
The smaller dog groaned, "I'm fine," he said before looking at the Corgi.
"Let her go, She's done nothing to hurt you, Her only mistake was meeting up with me,"
Andrea looked at him worried, the runt was looking after her. Part of her felt bad about not asking his name before this.
George looked at him and then at her and smiled, "No, I think she'll make for a nice message when we beat her as well, don't mess with us."
Andrea grew angrier at George.
"Tammy, sic him." said George, smiling.
The rottweiler laughed and started to menacingly walk towards the runt.
The Runt looked at the rottweilers teeth and started to whimper.
All of a sudden Andrea, ran towards Tammy, she bit the rottweiler on the leg causing Tammy to howl out in pain, Heinrich leaped towards Andrea, but Andrea ducked causing the larger dog to miss her, Andrea ran towards George, the small corgi's eyes widened, the smaller dog attempted to run, but the Afghan hound was upon him. She opened her jaws and placed them around his neck, the other dogs looked at her shocked, Tammy started to stalk towards her only for Andrea to slightly close her mouth around the Corgi's neck.
"Stop." said George, a hint of fear entering his voice.
Andrea, knew she was in a position of power when the others dogs stopped where they were.
"Let him go." said Andrea, however with the corgis neck in her mouth it came out more like, "get im oh."
The two dogs and human turned dog got the message, they stood there.
"Op im." said Andrea.
The runt was dropped, he slowly raised up and with a limp walked towards Andrea.
Andrea looked at the three dogs standing in front of her, she had one plan now, she let go of George and the picked up the runt in her own teeth, and ran.
"AFTER THEM." Barked George.
Andrea kept running out of the park, hearing barks from behind them.
…
Tammy thought she was going to get revenge on Andrea, in this dream she could do whatever she wanted to the prissy little social influencer. However, things went wrong quickly.
A man with Gray skin ran between them and the dogs that were escaping.
"I may have failed earlier but this time you won't get away." said the man who reached in side his pocket and produced several dog treats, throwing the treats in front of him. Heinrich and Spectre stopped to start devouring the treats.
"Worthless idiots." said George, who kept running
Tammy continued to run with him after Andrea, they followed her out of the park and down the streets, Tammy was going to make Andrea suffer for biting her, All of a sudden she heard a whimper from behind her.
Turning around, the rottweiler saw George being held by the neck by a man wearing a white t-shirt and brow shorts.
"This Corgi's pretty cute, he'll be perfect." said the man.
Tammy was about to run over to help her new boss when she felt something around her neck, she tried to escape it, but it whatever it was, was too tight.
She looked behind and her and saw a man standing there, holding a pole with some sort of wire, that was what was around her neck.
"This one looks okay, We'll show her to mom and see what she wants us to do with it." replied the man in a slow, dimwitted way.
She dragged by the man with the rod to a van that was packed in an alley.
The back door opened to reveal a few cages, Tammy was forced into one and the door closed, George was thrown into another.
"What's happened?" Tammy whimpered
"I don't know." said George, his bravado from earlier vanishing. "I think we might be in danger."
Tammy started to look around for a way out, Her dreams had just become a nightmare.
…
Back at the Alley, Andrea lowered the runt to the floor, the runt turned around and looked at her with wide eyes.
"You saved me," he said, sounding a little surprised.
"What, did you really think I'd leave you alone?" replied Andrea, smiling.
"No, but… taking one to three of the meanest dogs in town and their new crazy member, Is kind of awesome."
"Yeah, this would be the perfect time for me to become human again." she said looking at the sky, hoping this would be enough to convince the universe to turn her back into a human again.
Nothing happened.
"Dang it, is this one of those third act twists where I've been misreading things," said Andrea annoyed.
The runt looked at her, "You I still think you're crazy," he said.
"Not what I want to hear right now."
"But you're also crazy awesome." said the runt.
The Afghan hound looked at him, he was smiling, she had to be honest despite being a disgusting dog, he was kind of nice cute in a way, he was also loyal, maybe she was wrong about dogs.
Andrea laughed, "Well you're welcome…" she paused, she just realized she didn't know this dog's name.
"I''m sorry," said the Afghan hound embarrassed, "I don't know your name."
The runt looked at her, "Haven't got one." he replied.
"What?" said Andrea confused, "How can you not have a name?"
"Was Never given one," said the runt wondering what Andrea's deal was, Usually I make due with runt, or Mongrel or you little…"
Andrea sat there looking at him, she thought about all he had done to help her, and how she generally seemed to be better than a lot of the other dogs she had known and smiled, "Andrew."
The small dog looked at her shocked, "What?"
"Andrew, your new name, It's the masculine version of my name, Mom and dad told me that if I was a boy I would be an Andrew, I think it suits you nicely."
Andrew looked at her shocked and nodded, "Okay, That's nice, I'm Andrew now."
"It's a perfect name for me dog." said Andrea.
"Your dog." said Andrew, a little offended, "I'm no one's dog."
"Well too bad you're mine now, I mean when I return to being human, you can live with me."
"Why would I want to live with a human?" said Andrew, offended.
"I'll give you steak every day." replied Andrea.
Andrew looked at her for a second before nodding, "Okay, that's a good deal," he then ran over and started to lick her face.
"Okay, settle down, I'm not human yet, Whatever lesson the universe wants me to learn I think I still need to learn it."
"Well until then, You up for dinner?" said Andrew, smiling.
"We just had a hot dog." laughed Andrea.
"I know, but I know this great Deli where they have the best corn beef in town.
Andrew started to walk towards the entrance of the alley, "Come on."
The Afghan hound laughed and followed her new friend
All of a sudden, A man ran by the alley and grabbed Andrew from the floor, Andrea could only watch in horror as he carried away.
"GOT HIM." shouted the man, as he ran off.
Andrea ran, she exited the alley to see the man enter a van, the van started to drive.
Andrea could hear whimpering from inside the van, she could hear Andrew inside it, before she even knew what she was doing she chased after it. The old human Andrea wouldn't have cared, the old Andrea the one who made people lives hard would have given up, the new dog Andrea chased after him barking at them.
She dashed past two dogs that were standing in the middle of the pavement.
"Out of my way." barked Andrea towards them.
She kept chasing the van, eventually, she briefly looked behind her to see the two other dogs following her, she didn't care, she needed to save Andrew.
Suddenly the van drove down an alley, Andrea followed it down, only to notice the front
door open, she was about to bark when two strong arms reached out and grabbed her,
"Man we are on fire today." said the man smiling,
"Let her go." said a familiar voice from behind Andrea.
Andrea recognized the voice instantly, it was Molly.
The Afghan hound turned to see the smaller dog from earlier growling at the man. The larger dog behind him was also growling
All of a sudden, they were picked up but another man with greenish skin.
"Man six dogs today, Mom's going to be proud." said the other man holding on to them.
The three tried to free themselves, however the two men walked to the back of the alley and opened up a chute, Andrea found herself being placed in the chute and fell.
It would have been terrifying, if she was a human it was even more, so now she was a dog.
She hit the basement floor with a thud.
"How can this get worse." said Andrea.
All of a sudden, the Australian Retriever and the bloodhound landed on her.
"Ugh." said Bloodhouse.
"You know, I always wanted to ride down a chute, not as fun as I thought it would be."
"Get… Off" said Andrea.
The two dogs stood got were about to get off when a rottweiler, a Corgi and a dog of indeterminate breed landed on her as well.
"Where are we?"
"What happened?"
"That was a surprisingly comfy landing." said Andrew.
"GET…OFF" growled Andrea again annoyed.
All five dogs got off her, and she turned to the Retriever and the Bloodhound, "Which one of you is Molly?" she asked.
"That's me." said the Australian Retriever in a somewhat perky voice.
Andrea looked at her, "I have to be honest, you look adorable."
"Thank you." replied Molly, Love your hair and… Wait there's no time for this Andrea, did you drink something from a water bottle in the middle of the road."
"No, but it hit me and now, I have four feet and can't eat chocolate anymore."
"The horror." said the bloodhound in a deadpan voice.
"Libby?" said Andrea who looked at her up and down, "Ugh, the universe did a number on you, I mean that face."
It was Libby's turn to growl.
"I'm here to McGee."
Molly turned to look at Tammy,
"Tammy, how are you a rottweiler?"
"Simple." said Tammy.
…
Tammy had just seen Andrea transform into a dog, she looked at the remains of the bottle that had sprayed the other girl and walked towards it and picked it up.
She felt a bit of the liquid on her hand, briefly looking at it, she then licked it.
All of a sudden she was on the floor trapped in her clothes, struggling to get out of them, she then looked into a window and saw that she was a rottweiler.
"Sweet." said Tammy, she looked to her right to see a group of three mean looking dogs walking towards her.
"Hey, you guys a want fourth member?"
The Corgi looked at her and then after his two friends, returning to look at Tammy, he nodded "Sure."
…
"Actually, I confused why you were a rottweiler, they're usually sweethearts." said Molly.
"That sounded quick." said Libby.
"I admit it's not the greatest story, but When does logic matter in a dream."
"It's not a dream," said Andrea, "It's the universe punishing us for our actions."
Molly and Libby kept quiet, and looked at each other awkwardly.
"Um, Andrea, I think we might be in trouble." said Andrew.
"As much as I dislike the runt, I have to agree with him." said George.
The former humans looked where the two dogs were looking and gasped.
